"REX HILL has been making elegant Pinot Noirs for 40 years in the Willamette Valley at the gateway to Oregon's wine country. REX HILL honors exceptional single vineyards and continues a legacy of singular Pinot Noirs & Chardonnays that reflect their origin. That sense of place is paramount to the way we farm our land and make our wines."

The grounds are beautiful! Jake was an amazing host for our seated tasting and the wines were all excellent! Would definitely recommend stopping in!

It was my husband's birthday, and we came here to experience the Somm's Table offering. The food and wine pairings were fantastic, and the service was excellent. We had a great time, Jeff and Chef Billy took excellent care of us and had an answer to all of our wine questions!

Being limited to 5 stars feels like an injustice. We celebrated our anniversary here last weekend, and it was nothing short of an incredible experience. We booked the Somm’s Table, and it was clear that every dish had been meticulously crafted to create something truly special. Each course was vastly different from the last, yet each one paired perfectly with their wines. To make the evening even more memorable, the chef personally came out a few times to serve us and share the inspiration behind the flavor profiles of each dish. Our server was an absolute joy — witty, attentive, and genuinely passionate, adding an extra layer of bliss to our experience. We will most definitely be returning!

Great tasting!!! Jonathan taught us SO many great things about wine & we greatly appreciated him rearranging his schedule to fit us in for a sensory tasting experience! We learned a whole lot & he made it really fun!

My husband, son and I went to do a tasting at Rex Hill. The Winery is beautiful and the staff was so friendly and helpful with information. We enjoyed all of the wines along with the relaxed and inviting space. I highly recommend visiting Rex Hill.

Google
Today was a memorable tasting with Jonathan and chef Mark for the Somm Tasting. A must for foodies and wine enthusiasts. The food servings were beyond expectation in presentation and taste. The service and wine notes explained by Jonathan were unmatched with the passion of loving wine. Thank you, thank you! Will be back!

Google
Rex Hill Vineyards is truly perfect. I went here to celebrate my anniversary and passing my somm test, and I genuinely could not have asked for a better experience. I would name everyone that was so kind and knowledgeable but the list goes on and on, everyone that we came across that works there deserves a raise and a smooch. I can’t wait to move to Oregon simply so I can enjoy more time spent in that stunning environment. No qualms!!!

Google
Can’t say enough about the winery and especially Joan! We’ve been to several wineries and there are great and not so great at each one… Except for Rex Hill Winery. All the wines we’ve tasted have been great! Joan is an amazing guide on the wine tasting journey. She is super knowledgeable, but more importantly, friendly! If you get a chance, go to Rex Hill Winery and get ready to join the wine club, we did! Oh, don’t forget the food, the short rib is fantastic! Chef Billy Brownlee is an artist!

Yelp
Rex Hill is my favorite winery to visit and take family and friends to when they come to visit. The service is always awesome and their staff are always so friendly!!

Cici G.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful with amazing service and tasty wine! Yadira (I think I spelled it correctly) was warm and welcoming, she was really knowledgeable about the wines and was a delight the entire time she waited on us. My faves from the day: 2019 Alloro Pinot Noir- lots of floral notes, with a hint of vanilla! Sits nicely on the tongue and smells delightful. I regret not getting a bottle to go but I will be back to pick one up. 10/10 highly recommend!!!

Ron T.

Yelp
This is one of the wineries that I was looking the most forward to visiting. I have had their wine in the past and loved it, but the wine was only good compared to other wineries we visited and the was not in love with the wine and an advocate for it.

Jack H.

Yelp
Went on a Thursday late afternoon with friends. Service was very professional and friendly. As first timers, they took the time to go over their offerings with us and poured our glasses at the front. They have both indoor and plenty of outdoor seating with wonderful views of wine country. I enjoyed the Seven Soils Chardonnay. We also got the cheese board with bread that was quite fulfilling and great value for the price. We all really enjoyed our time and look forward to coming back!

Yelp
My daughter made reservations for us for a tasting at this winery, located about 30 minutes from downtown Portland. We had a great experience, thanks particularly to our awesome wine guide Joan who was friendly, very knowledgeable, and fun! We did the standard tasting that consisted of an initial Grande Cuvee sparkling wine that made for a delightful start, and then a Chardonnay that was light and fruity, but not as buttery as the California Chardonnays. We then progressed to a series of three Pinot Noirs. We accompanied the wines with an excellent Oregon cheese, pickled onion and cucumber, an apricot spread, some nice bread, and yummy salami. As we worked our way through the Pinots that were getting darker and more full bodied, Joan told us about the origins of each wine and described what we should be looking for as we sipped. I've previously been to numerous distilleries and wineries - prior to Portland, had just returned from a winery trip to Napa and Sonoma - I thought Joan was among the best guides I have experienced as her descriptions were so spot on. If you visit and you have Joan as your guide, maybe you will also be lucky enough to get the bonus pours we received of two additional special edition Pinots. All the Rex Hill wines were exceptional but the added pours were fantastic. Thinking of getting the Rex Hill wine club membership for my daughter and future son-in-law as a wedding present - they would also receive a couple of free tastings as part of the membership and that's a great reason for another visit to the winery.

Jason R.

Yelp
Yikes! $45 for a basic tasting. I guess competition isn't forcing wineries to provide wine at a reasonable price. These wineries have to be in on this together. This is why I drink beer.

Lorena G.

Yelp
One of the first wineries that we ran into as we drove into the Valley from Portland. Gorgeous facility, great staff and overall good wine. Ordered the hubby the caviar and chips to snack on while we sipped on our tasting. Recommend this place! Beautiful views from their facilities for sure!

Carlos G.

Yelp
We went for a tasting today and had a great time. Joan was knowledgeable and fun. The wine and food was all good. The space is beautiful. Great view!!!

Carlos And Maria P.

Yelp
I love Vineyards for the country hillside views, and although Rex Hill doesn't have your typical Vineyard view (it's more so a desert meets a forest) the wine the food and the service make up for that, it was perfect. Jonathan helped us out and we were all very happy. The thing that set this place up so high however was the food. They are one of the few Vineyards we have been to with a full menu, not just cheese boards. Oysters, Clams, ShortRibs, It's really a must!

Brian L.

Yelp
Outstanding Tasting Room Experience at Rex Hill. Our host was on top of our time with being present just enough so we could enjoy our time with friends. I worked in the wine business for nearly a decade but this was my first visit here and really enjoyed the facility, wines and staff. They also make AtoZ onsite and were just purchased by Ste. Michelle Wine Estates.

Coleen P.

Yelp
My friends and I enjoyed a lovely afternoon sipping on wine here at Rex Hill Vineyards. Their tasting room has a nice and cozy cabin feel to it while also looking chic and elegant. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines and flavor profiles. Our server was able to talk us through a few bottles and gave us her recommendations based on what we were looking for. Overall, such a great place for a relaxing experience with good snacks and wine!

Florian R.

Yelp
With all the fine wine offerings in the area, what sets wineries in the area apart is the service and environment. Time and time again, whether it's a tasting, a spur-of-a-moment visit, or entertaining guests for business or personal, the staff at Rex Hill - especially Doug, Jonathon and Zoe - is always welcoming, informative, respectful and personable. No pretentiousness here! I LOVE the wine and the food! Everyone I have introduced to Rex Hill has loved the place. The extended patio is a wonderful and the summer parties are FUN! This is my go-to, and I have never been disappointed.

Tracey P.

Yelp
We had a wonderful day at Rex Hill - just happened upon as we were taking a drive. It is a gorgeous place and wonderful service and tasting. Ended up joining the VIP wine club and bringing home some wonderful wines too. The food was very good and thank you to Doug who was a wonderful host!

Cassandra W.

Yelp
We visited this winery in January and had an amazing experience. The wine is incredible, you can taste every note! We also had the charcuterie board and it paired really well with the wine. Joan took care of us, she was so sweet, accommodating and hospitable. She thoroughly explained to us every wine, how and why it was made, and all about the owners of the winery. She really took her time and was patient with us. I can tell she genuinely loves what she does and loves this winery. Thank you for everything, Joan! We will be back!

Carolyn P.

Yelp
My son and I visited Rex Hill Vineyards on 3/20/23 and loved every minute. Our wine associate Jeff expertly described each wine and helped to make our visit so enjoyable. Mahalo Jeff! We were so amazed by the quality and taste of all of the wines! We will definitely be recommending Rex Hill Winery to everyone we know!

Yelp
RHV is the epitome of why I like to venture out while traveling for work. As a recommendation, my friend and I visited RHV thinking it would be another winery with decent wines and good way to spend some down time. When we walked into the tasting room it was set in an old cellar like room with a round table in the middle. The table was set with dozens of glasses filled with an array of spices and herbs to smell. As odd as it sounds, it was a pretty neat experience and you could easily correlate the scents to the wines. Now to the good stuff...wine. RHV has two tasting menus, an "every day" list of wines and a "reserve" list. The "every day" list is $15-$20 for about six wines and the reserve is $30 for three (I think) wines. You can tell how much I "sampled" by the fogginess of the details I remember. They also have some munchies and a nice charcuterie board for purchase too. I cannot speak highly enough about some of their Pinot Noirs. They have some very complex wines at both higher end prices ($328 for a magnum bottle of their 2000 PN) and some more affordable prices ($~50 for a 2018 PN). The 2000 PN we sampled was probably one of the best wines I've ever tasted. I bought several bottles of the newer vintage in hopes it'll age as well as what we sampled. I am a RHW fan, for sure!

Yelp
I don't recall ever having been to this winery, but I know I've had their wine. They've completely remodeled, so even if you've been here before it might be worth it to check out the renovations. We came out here because it was my best friend's birthday and this is what she wanted to do, so of course we were happy to bring her out here. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation (I miss the days when you didn't need one) so we checked out the lovely outdoor area. Once inside you can see how beautiful it is. They had a nice selection of wines to taste that day and I'm assuming it's always a good variety. You pay a deposit for your reservation that gets applied to your tasting fees. It's $25 per person, which I think is extremely expensive, maybe $10 would be more appropriate. Up until covid I could go to a winery and me and my partner could both just walk in and as long as I bought a bottle the tasting fees were waived for both. Not sure if it's only this place, but looking online I think a lot of wineries have changed how they operate. It's not even just buy a bottle per person to get it waived, so be prepared for an expensive time TBH. Not impressed with their food selection, very limited. It felt like they knew they were charging too much so they were trying to make it more of an "experience" to reason the cost. I doubt many people care exactly where all the types of wood etc came from for the remodel. Just sayin. They really do need to cut it down to under one hour. An hour and a half is just too long. I prefer getting a little info on the wine and being left to taste it. I'm not used to spending more than about 30 minutes tasting. Of course you can buy wine to waive the fees, which I did. Better to buy a case of wine then spend $100 plus tip for 5 small tastes of wine for 4 people. So I made my wine selections so I could send my bestie off with a birthday present of half a case of wine (I'm not CRAZY, I kept half of it). Our sommelier was really friendly and definitely giving his best effort. It was mostly good, but if this is what wineries are doing these days I think I'll be passing for the most part.

Yelp
High end experience. Gorgeous view from the tasting room. Excellent service. Perfect charcuterie. What more could you ask for?

Alison C.

Yelp
Joan made our experience 5 stars! She treated us like we were guests in her home not just customers. She was very knowledgeable about their wine and was lovely to talk to. Their flights cost $25 which is well worth what they deliver. The tasting room is beautiful. Definitely recommend.

Alessandra C.

Yelp
I was very pleased with the quality of their wine and the attentive salesperson, Whitney, who answered all of our questions patiently. We tried 4 different wines in the wine flight which came down to only $7.50 with the Yelp 50% off discount. The Chardonnay and their Pinot Noir reserve were our favorites. We are not fans of Chardonnays but this one was light, smooth, and didn't leave that buttery after-taste of most Chardonnays. The last Pinot in the list was the best in my opinion. Very unique flavors. Their vineyards/gardens had an European feel to it. They had some large picnic tables also, so definitely a place to sit and enjoy a bit with a scenic view.

Yelp
Recently spent a couple of hours at a wine tasting at Rex Hill. It is a wonderful setting with a courteous staff that seems a bit short-handed. The wines were solid but nothing that we felt was excellent. They also make A to Z wine but they seem ashamed of the brand. It is a great daily drinking wine, but Rex Hill doesn't want to talk about it. Very disappointing because they should celebrate all levels of quality. I suggest trying a different tasting room if you are strapped for time.

Rachelle T.

Yelp
Such a nice space they have added on and remodeled here along with a beautiful outdoor area. Like most wineries you have to make a reservation but it's easy to online.

Diane H.

Yelp
I wish they sold all of your wines outside of the winery... but I'll just have to come back another time and stock up on their Chardonnay. The wine tasting was lovely, as was the view in the tasting room! Thank you Doug for making our last minute adventure be so worthwhile. I definitely recommend checking this place out :)

Debbie B.

Yelp
Disappointed in the wine and pizza event. We go to many events and have never paid $25 just to enter. Usually it comes with a glass of wine and/or food for the cover charge. We understand that the heat was unpredictable but moving it indoors with little to no air was like placing us in a sauna ... with that said heat or no heat, the event itself was not worth the money but kudos to the band that played through it all .

Colleen J.

Yelp
This winery is supposed to be fancy, but the wine is very overpriced for what it is. All the wines tasted, to me, extremely acidic. I was there with a special pass where I was supposed to have a free tasting, but the server did not disclose that the flight I chose did not count. The view is beautiful, but they are in the middle of a construction project. The server was knowledgeable, but was not upfront with pricing. I will never return or recommend.

Mary J.

Yelp
Relaxing afternoon. Doug walked us through a tasting and shared information on production and history. We enjoyed the wine with their cheese board and the view on the patio.

Isabel P.

Yelp
Beautiful venue and excellent service and delicious, affordable wines! Looking forward to returning and trying the reserve wine tasting with food pairing!

Demi T.

Yelp
Came here for the first time with my mom today and couldn't have had a better time! Joan was our server and she was absolutely lovely! Their grounds are beautiful and the wine is delish! We loved everything so much we joined the wine club. Can't wait to come back!

Robyn W.

Yelp
Stunning venue! I couldn't get enough of the gardens and views. Our wine tasting was informative. It was great to hear about the wines and learn about the area. The wines were just OK to me. It was really nice of them to give us a map and recommended a few other wineries they personally enjoy in the area since we were short on time and wanted to stop at a few more places. Wish we had more time to see more of the place, as it's a pretty amazing space.

Monica L.

Yelp
Rex Hill is a gorgeous quaint winery with beautiful tasting spaces (inside and outside), delicious wines and truly wonderful service. Our host, Sundiata, took great care of our large group, educated us about the wine we were drinking and made us feel welcome the whole time. Would definitely recommend!

Aramis M.

Yelp
Wonderful experience at the Rex Hill tasting room! I had a complicated pick up order. Jonathan helped me, he was extremely helpful and gracious. Even walked my wine out to my car! A+ service from Rex Hill I did not stay for a tasting but the tasting room was impeccably designed with gorgeous views!

Renna L.

Yelp
After a long trip, we had such a relaxing time at the winery. Lovely enjoyable wines, probably one of the most enjoyable pinot n chardonnay we've tried, and such a enjoyable experience! Cheers to Sundiata!!! There are some strangers that u met along the way and u somehow remember them because of their friendly and kind gestures, well.. he's one of them! He was very busy bec he was literally alone trying to keep us happy, yet he managed to make our times there very pleasant! Thank you!!!!

Greg R.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting Rex Hill. The new tasting room is beautiful and the wines were excellent. Our server Sundiata gave us a first class experience!

Hales E.

Yelp
Jonathan was fantastic! Professional, knowledgeable and personable. My partner and I visited Rex Hill for wine tasting on our anniversary. The wine was phenomenal (as well as the food), and the staff was very kind and kid friendly. Jonathan took the time to show our kiddos where the wine is made and explained the process behind it. Also, really appreciate the gender neutral bathrooms as a transgender individual. Made my day to see them! We will definitely be back! hales and ash

Tamara C.

Yelp
Every time we walk in, we are greeted by name; they bring out the tasting glasses and start pouring. They even remember what we do for work and ask how is business. I love that personal touch. This is always our first stop whenever we head into wine country for an afternoon of wine tasting. The winery itself is beautiful. I have been fortunate enough to have attended one of their winery tours when they pair their wines with appetizers and the hors d'œuvre they serve are always top notch. During the tour they will educate you on where the wine making grapes come from, when they are picked, how they are stored, how long they are stored, and when a bottle of wine is at its peak. I am a fan of their wines and the wines themselves are affordably priced. If you are a wine club member you get a discount on the wine and the wine tasting is no charge for you and a guest. You also get invited to special events at the winery throughout the year. With every visit I am always impressed by the friendliness and the excitement these folks have for their craft and how willing they are to share their knowledge with us. I love that we always get a taste of things to come and wines that are not on the tasting menu. As always, Rex Hill delivers a stellar wine tasting experience.

Craig H.

Yelp
We always enjoy the experience and having Doug pouring our flights makes it that much better. He knows the wines. Also, this time he heard my son doesn't enjoy red wines, so accommodated him with a mostly white flight. Can't wait to go back out in good weather--Doug suggested bringing a picnic and spending some time in the new gardens.

Lauren W.

Yelp
Second visit to this winery because we had such a great experience the last time we were here. It was fantastic, highly Recommend! A few friends & I go wine tasting once a month because we love everything wine and to experience the beauty of wine county. We love visiting new wineries & returning to the ones we love. Rex Hill is one of the wineries we love! The staff is knowledgeable & goes out of their way to give you a great wine tasting experience (Whitney is amazing!). Flight tasting fees are $15 (classic) & $30 (reserve) depending on what wines you would like to try. All the wines are delicious & affordable. I ended up buying the 2016 Willamette Pinot Noir, it was fantastic. They have indoor & outdoor seating. They also open at 10 am which is great if you want to get an early start on wine tasting. Downside - tasting room can be dark I highly recommend this winery as your first stop of the day!

Heather M.

Yelp
The view here is beautiful, the facilities are grand and the tasting was delicious. My favorite was the A to Z sparkling rose.

Valerie M.

Yelp
I have mixed feelings on Rex Hill. It was the first winery of a handful that my boyfriend and I visited on a trip through Willamette Valley. The key here is to use the Yelp code for 50% off a tasting - though the wines were still fantastic enough that $15 per tasting is a great deal. We tried one of each of the tastings offered, but we were a bit disappointed that there wasn't much variety in them. The white tasting started off with a chardonnay and the red with a rose, and the second for red was the same chardonnay as the first for the white, so that is a bit repetitive when you are sharing. However, the wines were great so we didn't mind! If you go into the garden it's a lovely place to be, and Whitney was personable and so knowledgeable no matter what question we had. She let us take our time and engaged us in conversation. We were the only ones in the garden at the time so it felt private and personal. She also let us explore the vineyard to our heart's content, wine in hand. That was the peak of our experience for sure, but overall it was great and I would recommend!

Jason P.

Yelp
Strongly do not recommend this place. They will not serve you unless you do exactly as you are told. Reminds me of that Seinfeld episode with the soup guy. Do as we say or "no wine for you"! Avoid this place as there are tons of other wineries you can visit in the area that allow you to live your life as you wish.

Matt S.

Yelp
Rex Hill has one of my favorite things I've seen at a tasting room and that is a big round table with about 30 wine glasses, each labeled and containing a common aromas, like tobacco, leather, mineral, vanilla, etc... so that you can experience what these aromas are in isolation and then see if you can sense that in the wine itself. Very interesting for me as a poseur cork dork. The building and grounds are pretty nice, not the most memorable space. Although I like the vinyard tour and the biodiverse stuff they're doing.

Vicki L.

Yelp
Outdoor pizza oven was a fun and tasty touch. Friendly staff. Great outdoor seating and service options.

Joyce N.

Yelp
A very nice winery and friendly staff but didn't seem to want to spend anytime with us during our wine tasting. They were not very busy yet weren't able to give both couples the attention needed. We visited and had fun with the other couple we met while enjoying our wine. They just didn't seem to care that we were even there. We did however purchase a bottle of wine and look forward to enjoying it at home soon. Just a little more personal attention would had changed our experience.

Jessica M.

Yelp
This was the last stop of the day and we were excited as we drove up and saw the beautiful scenery. After we parked and went inside I was a bit disappointed. Their tasting room looked liked it needed a bit of updating and a deep clean as well. The servers were nice and attentive but it was distracting trying to have a conversation and having to swat away fruit flies. I am glad I went because it is a place I had been wanting to go to but I probably won't be going back.

Raul R.

Yelp
Jonathan was a home run!! Took care of us on the outside patio. Great tasting experience! Fun side by side and mystery tastings. Great charcuterie board too! Special thanks to Mark who squeezed us in on a busy Saturday! Not to mention beautiful tasting room and views even on a cloudy day. Will be back with friends and family guaranteed!!!

Mackenzie B.

Yelp
experience was nice, went with my boyfriend and my family. three of us did the classic sampler, and we all were shocked that they brought out each wine individually instead of all at once so we could actually compare them to each other. the waiter also poured every wine into the same glass, not switching it out ever time. was the most shocked that he did this after we had a Chardonnay and then he poured a pinot into the same exact glass

Debra J.

Yelp
We liked this place ok! We've been wine tasting in the Willamette Valley, and the location is super convenient, right off the main highway. We had a really nice, friendly male server, but then his boss came over and started being super intrusive and weird. In general, other than our server, this place felt kind of pretentious!

Taylor P.

Yelp
Sundiata was amazing and took such good care of our large group. He was attentive, extremely knowledgeable, and overall just made it a great experience. The wine was great as well and we bought several bottles to bring back with us!

Jonathan B.

Yelp
Came by at 1pm on a quiet January Sunday afternoon because of the Yelp recommendation and associated half price wine tasting for Yelp members. So it was very quiet and we were told about the tasting of 4 wines, 1 Chard, and 3 Pinot Noirs, I asked if they had any food, to which I was told for $35 there's a cheese plate with the wine flight. Very small tasting of the four wines compared with other local wineries, and a very small cheese plate. It was all ok, not the best wines in the valley, and the comment from the steward was that they 'were all sourced from local growers.' This sounded odd that Rex Hill didn't grow their own grapes. Then we had to ask for our bill which surprisingly he said was $70. It was supposed to be $7.50/ea. w the Yelp discount for the tastings of the four wines, to which He said would be waived if we purchased two bottles each. So when we saw the bill we asked about a discount if we purchased the bottles of wine, the gentleman responded no discount, that it's $35 each for the tastings and cheese. I then asked if the wine flights were $15 total, that means the one cheese plate was $55? To which he said yes, I then asked if we purchased four bottles of wine (all greater than $35/ea) would the cost of the wine tastings be waived to which we were told no. So my recommendation is to go to one of the other dozens of incredible Willamette Valley wineries and skip the Rex Hill visit. $55 for a small plate of cheese, and four small tastes of wine for another $15 from a mass producer of regional grower's grapes is not reflective of the incredible options available in the region.
