"Sweets are the main attraction at this new Capitol Hill shop, the first US location for Jalisco-based chocolatier Rey Amargo, which has been around for more than 80 years. But along with a wide variety of bars, truffles, and chocolate-covered fruits for sale, there’s also a substantial drinks menu, with coffee (hot or iced), herbal tea, five different chai options, and some fantastic hot chocolate, of course." - Mark Van Streefkerk, Gabe Guarente

Great place ambience wise, great service, the hostess was very polite. But the drink just did not taste good. I went in with an open mind, expecting varied tastes found in different cultures. I tried a chilate. While finishing it i was thinking why did i order this.

When I am out of town, Rey Amargo is the place I miss the most. It is a chocolate shop whose menu includes a wide array of traditional cultural beverages, as well as some more familiar coffee shop options. I’ve tried a majority of their chocolate beverages, and everything is robustly flavorful, well balanced, and not overly sweet. My favorites include the Aztec hot chocolate, the orange Mexican mocha, and the champurrado (a recurring special!) They have hot drinks, iced drinks, and frappés, and most of the drink menu can be made vegan. The staff are all awesome and very helpful if you need help deciding which drink is right for you. If you are a chocolate fan, make this your next stop!

Google
Spicy Mexican Mocha is my go-to 100% of the time! It comes with chocolate and chili powder, what's not to love?! The place is welcoming, clean and so many items to choose from. The baristas have incredible skills, customer service and really great vibes. If you're in the area it's worth giving them a try! Who needs Starbucks when you have shops like this around. 10/10 will always go whenever I'm in the city.

Really enjoyed my experience here. Their tinga empanada was delicious and definitely worth going back for. Got hot chocolate as well with marzipan which was interesting but I'd probably opt to try another drink on a repeat visit. Place was clean. Service was quick and staff were friendly. Their bathroom was clean and nice. They also have a rack of board and card games that you can play so we were able to play several rounds of Connect Four while we stopped our drinks. Looking forward to going again!

I was visiting Seattle from out of town and stopped here before heading back home. I had the Xocolatl which was a beautiful experience in itself. Everything here was delicious and so satisfying. I’m writing this review from the airport and the Cacao has me feeling grounded. Thank you!

Finally found a good Churro place in Seattle! It was light and sweet inside. Crusty and cinnamony outside. Added an authentic mexican chocolate dip and it was one of the best Churro i have had. Also tried their traditional hot chocolate, which was good with an interesting spice flavor. Tried their Ray Amargo Espresso which was super hot and decent to taste. I wouldn't come here for coffee against some other cafes in the 3 block radius. But come here for good authentic mexican chocolate, conchas and churros!

Nice little shop with great hot chocolate! You can get it hot or cold and with coffee or without. Lots of options + pastries too!

I tried to send an email to corporate but it bounced back. That's not a good sign. Here's my email: I was given a gift certificate to Rey Amargo in Seattle on 722 E Pike Street for Christmas and I've been really looking forward to using as I LOVE chocolate. We finally visited today and I was ecstatic to find that you had Mexican (and versions of) hot chocolate. I've been looking for Mexican Hot Chocolate for AGES. I went to the counter to ask how much they cost (because honestly I wanted all 4 ;-)) and I stood there for......I have no idea how long actually. Several minutes. My partner tried to get me to be patient and so I didn't say anything but after awhile it became apparent that the two employees there (1 woman 1 man) did not have any kind of customer service skills. There ZERO eye contact, from the time I came in until the time I left. They both walked very close to me at the counter several times without an acknowledgement that I was even there. I finally spoke up quite loudly "can I get some service?!" and she was standing right there and said 'oh sure sorry i was busy" and STILL no eye contact. I got two of your hot chocolate flavors with my gift card and we've tried the hot chocolate at home this evening and while I am quite impressed with your hot chocolate, I won't be going back again. They need to be taught basic politeness and customer service skills.

Yelp
Went here at around 10 am on a Saturday morning and I was the only customer there and I ordered a regular mocha. The place is rather quaint and might be nice for some solo work time and people watching but I don't think it would fit a group well. The cashier was nice and lovely and made my drink quickly. I found the mocha to be good, however, I guess I expected it to be better or different since it is a chocolate shop. But maybe should've gotten one of their more unique flavors to see the difference. Overall, I'd come back and try the other drinks and try the other flavors. Mocha - 7.5/10

Yelp
The perfect beverages to satisfy your chocolate craving! My husband and I made a stop here on the weekend on a cold and semi rainy day! This spot was perfect! They have indoor seating and drinks are served in these really cute mugs! I got the French chocolate drink - served hot and made with condensed milk and whole milk - omg this was so good! Texture is a little thicker than usual hot cocoa and not quite as thick as some drinking chocolates I've had. So it was the perfect in between for me! My husband got the megachoco which he said was good but liked my drink more. We also shared an order of churros with Dulce de leche dipping sauce and that was also very delicious! Service was friendly, drinks were great, and atmosphere was nice! We'll definitely be back again!

Yelp
Excellent place to get drinking chocolate, churros, chocolates and other wonderful items! I got the Aztec which was a drinking chocolate that had unique ingredients and some corn involved. It was so very memorable and a joy to kick back and relax and do a slow sip on these types of drinks. Even bringing a friend to share a cup of such a beverage is a great idea as well! The churros are a delight! So very fresh and something you can just sink your teeth into and feel sheer bliss. Steve and I purchased some chocolate to take home and that was great too! As soon as we had it we were thrilled by it. If you are into trying different varieties of drinking chocolates or have some upper scale coffee drinks this place is a great idea when out and about in the Capitol Hill neighborhood!

Yelp
Spiced Mexican hot chocolate. If you want a taste, then just buy a bag of hot chocolate on the shelves. Don't make the mistake of buying a small drink like I did. $5 for a cup versus $15 for a bag that can make several cups. They have a menu outside, but no prices. Misleading people to come in and spend money on their overpriced hot chocolate. The interior is cozy though. Itd be a great place to get work done or chat with a friend. I saw someone getting work done on their laptop with their pet dog. Might be worth considering for coming here if there's a line outside of the Starbucks reserve nearby.

Monica S.

Yelp
Cute and friendly place. We ordered a few drinks, with a latte and a Spanish style white hot chocolate, which was very tasty. The churros definitely tried but they were anything but Spanish. The chocolate sauce was tasty, yes, but it was very hot fudge-like. Overall, a cute place to pop in for a date.

Andrew T.

Yelp
Great little hot chocolate and coffee spot right on Capitol hill. The hot chocolates we got were amazing and I can't wait to stop by again!

Celina S.

Yelp
Their hot drinks are good! I got the Aztec chocolate and it was just right - not too sweet and had real chocolate bits inside. A nice spot to try if you want to change it up instead of going to a bar or a coffee shop to hang out. I appreciate how you can sub for alt milks for no charge. But I got full fat this time, no regrets! Inside is quiet with nice music, not too many seats but we didn't find it to be an issue around 1:30.

Sarah M.

Yelp
Cute spot, interesting selection. Flavored frappe was decent with the cardamom. The marrochino was lackluster.

Tani S.

Yelp
This is such a magical place. My husband and children first discovered it during mid winter break and had a return visit this morning as a sweet surprise on our anniversary (churros and hot cocoa were the perfect way to start my day). They have a variety of different hot cocoas with a sweetness scale ranging from one to seven and I've never known hot chocolate to be as delectable. The service is also so kind. I can't wait to sample the Mexican chocolate box he picked up as well later!

Shao-Lon Y.

Yelp
A really unique cafe that specializes in Mexican and Latin American styles of hot chocolate. Given that Seattle has coffee shops around every corner, this is a nice change of pace. The drinks can taste a bit watered down at times but it still hits the spot when you're craving a hot drink on a cold day and don't feel like coffee or tea. I think the drinks with the flavor combination of chocolate and corn are really interesting since it's not something common around here. The bitterness of the cacao and the toastiness of the roasted corn complements each other well. I also like that the drinks aren't too sweet and you can really taste the cocoa. This is a great place to get gifts for people. There's so many different flavors of hot chocolate mixes and they also have a lot of pre-packed gift boxes. The chocolate boxes are quite nice and are filled with a variety of truffles, but they can be a bit pricey.

Kyle W.

Yelp
I am so happy I found this place now since the weather has gotten so cold! This place specializes in a lot of variations of hot chocolate, including ones with corn which I found very special. I personally tried the Aztec chocolate which has a very rich chocolate and roasted corn taste with seeds, which is quite interesting. The drink is sweet but not overbearing, and it is just the right, hot temperature. -1 star for now since they didn't ask whether I wanted the drink to be prepared to-go or dine-in, which led to a somewhat subpar experience. I would have much rather preferred dine-in as the cups look kind of nice and I can enjoy the home-like and colorful ambience of the place more. This is temporary as I do intend to come back here to try more of their drinks, and hope that my next visit will redeem itself as a 5 star establishment.

Nik S.

Yelp
Super fun hot chocolate restaurant. Most of the drinks are not super sweet and perfect for the adult palate. We enjoyed seasoning our own hot chocolate with vanilla syrup, chili, pepper, & cinnamon. The Monterey Jack cheese was a perfect pairing with the chocolate. Lovely restaurant, beautiful presentation, and helpful staff. We had a lovely time trying different drinks.

AJ L.

Yelp
Very neat spot - passing by, their menu always caught my eye. A Mexican hot chocolate cafe? Very intriguing. Finally ended up going with some friends, and it was a fun time. The food - namely, the grilled cheese sandwich with side salad - wasn't amazing, but that wasn't really what we came for. The hot chocolate with cheese in it (South American Hot Chocolate) was actually really good. We tried a couple other chocolate drinks which were all unique and tasty. Altogether a novel experience. If you consider yourself a "foodie", I'm sure you'd find a visit exciting one way or another.

Ana Karen C.

Yelp
Make sure to add whipped cream to your drink! I love coming to Rey during cold days. Staff is very friendly and the chocolate taste like chocolate from the motherlands (Mexico)!! Highly recommend checking them out

Stephanie B.

Yelp
This place is such a welcome addition! I never knew I wanted a hit chocolate specific shop til this one came around. My husband and I went last night - I got the supreme and he got the Mayan one with the bits of corn in it. Both were spectacular & the churros we paired with it were not too sweet. The service was great and quick too. The only thing I think could use improvement is the feel or "ambiance" of this location; the lighting felt a bit harsh - like walking into a Cold Stone. But overall, would def go back despite harsh lighting.

Paul R.

Yelp
Now, this is something that is different. Chocolate shop from Mexico, real chocolate treats. Great drinks. Real chocolate, there is a difference Staff is very helpful about their product line and the neighborhood is interesting place to sip and nibble while people watching. I hope the do well.

Jaz S.

Yelp
We ordered the Rey Amargo Espresso, Royal hot chocolate with oat milk, and the churros with dulce de leche. The drinks are slightly spiced and very rich and smooth. Definitely fulfills a chocolate craving. I like that they have a lot of options on cacao % and different flavor combos so you can get exactly what you like. The espresso drink was also foamed to perfection and not too sweet. The churros were perfectly crisp on the outside and slightly chewy in the center. The dulce de leche had a sweet milky taste that complemented it well. Interior is cozy and the dishes are so cute, but there isn't a ton of seating. We saw another yelp review saying dogs are allowed, but the sign on the door says service animals only. Luckily, they let us bring in our dog this time, but be aware! We'll leave her home next time. I'll be back when my next churro or chocolate craving kicks in!

Jess L.

Yelp
If you like a clean cute café cozy interior to drink your rich hot or cold chocolate, then this is the place for you. Everything in Rey Amargo has to do with chocolates and their specialities here are hot cocoas. I would recommend any of the drinks depending on the richness you prefer and the sweetness. However you can't go wrong with the drink if you like a rich chocolate flavor. The service was fast and efficient. No complaints here about it. :)

Alex N.

Yelp
Wow what an amazing place to get hot chocolate and churros! They pair so well together. Lots of choices to pick from I was overwhelmed but the one I got was really good, it was the first one off the menu. The churros were really good too, I wish I ordered more. I'd come back!

Yvette 'Divie' E.

Yelp
Yummmm! I love hot chocolate, and this place didn't disappoint. Drinks/food: SO many hot chocolate choices, including plenty of dairy free options. I had the 50% dark chocolate option with almond milk and marshmallows - yum! Chocolate covered dehydrated strawberries were decadent and delicious (and completely unnecessary). Service: Great! Friendly, helpful, and patient while I spent far too long exploring the menu. Very welcoming. Ambiance: Cute and cozy! Love the game nook and have played a few good rounds of uno. It's not big but it was perfect for a few small groups on a weekday afternoon. A wonderful cafe! I'll be back!

Priscilla L.

Yelp
Hot cocoa + espresso shot, sub oat milk! 10/10! Also, you can pick the sweetness of the cocoa which is great! Small spot with plenty of tables and merchandise to/go.

Parth S.

Yelp
Cute hot chocolate/coffee shop - free wifi and great study spot. They don't have a lot of eating options though

Sindu K.

Yelp
I live in Capitol Hill and have been thinking to check this place out. I finally got to try it out. The menu is extensive. Everything looked good. I got cardamom flavored hot chocolate with oat milk, which was very good. The staff is nice and helpful. There is good amount of seating inside the shop. Would highly recommend this place. Will come back again to try different things.

Nicole Y.

Yelp
Okay, I love this place. First, I'm allllways for any coffee shop with unique drinks to try. Especially drinks made by the chocolatier grandson of a Mexican chocolate maker! I am honored to be invited to share in your culture and craft. The iced pazol was amazing. I got it with 1 pump of vanilla because I prefer my chocolate on the sweeter side, but if you're a dark chocolate lover this drink, as is, would be perfect for you. Can we just pause to talk about the murals for a minute! They are beautiful! And make a really great photo backdrop! Come take pics with your drink if your an insta or Tik tok foodie! I also tried the empanada. It was warm and soft. I'd def come back to try their chocolate and more of their traditional drinks. Highly recommend.

Wendi K.

Yelp
Incredible hot chocolate, loved how customizable everything is. They have a lot of different varieties of hot chocolate (some very unique sounding ones with spice/chili, corn, and cheese!) I tried the cardamom hot chocolate ($4.50) with oat milk (+$.75), it was amazing! Super knowledgable and kind staff, I love how he dealt with all our questions

Thelma M.

Yelp
So I happened to be in the area when I remembered that I had placed an order for pickup a week prior. Not the most convenient location if you're driving but if you're on foot stopping if you are driving well you're going to have to look for a place to park. I would have loved to have like some upbeat tango or Spanish music to match the vibrant colors on the wall to set the mood, that's my personal opinion ‍ I did try a cookie made out of cornbread flour I believe it was actually similar to a tea cookie if you've ever had one pretty light cookies with regular flour are a whole lot heavier I think it was a brown sugar cookie not too sweet it would go well with coffee or tea . I also ordered a Mexican donut but the proper word is c o n c h a, I grew up in a city with a large Hispanic location that's how I'm familiar with this pastry or sweet bread there's was a little heavier than what I remember but still good!! Also with my order, if you couldn't tell I have a sweet tooth, Pan De Coco which is a sweet bread with a coconut milk center and toasted coconut on top this bun actually isn't as sweet as maybe I make it sound and it's a vegan product for you vegans out there or you don't even have to be vegan to enjoy. I did order a mocha to go I wasn't too impressed with the mocha I did not really taste the chocolate I tasted more warm milk so slightly disappointed because this is a chocolate shop and that's why I ordered. Moving on to the three bags of drinking cocoa that I ordered. I ordered a regular drinking cocoa and I also ordered spicy, I'm the spicy was not spicy I was expecting a little bit of a kick and then the regular it was more gritty when I mixed with hot water instead of milk the instructions do say milk but I'm not a big milk drinker and I do like my drinking cocoa more of the consistency like hot cocoa and this drinking cocoa mixed in water was more of the consistency like mixing coffee grinds and water or mixing dirt in water for a visual, the flavor of the regular drinking chocolate was good I just did not like the consistency. There is good natural light in this coffee shop they did have the hand sanitizer out along with restrooms for those who prefer soap and water such as myself. And I want to give a shout out to the barista A soft spoken young woman very nice and served me with a smile that's always good experience. I will be back for a lunch date with milkshake and a box of chocolates Until next time, adios

Barrie S.

Yelp
If you're around Capitol Hill and a chocolate fan, why would you look anywhere else?! Go check out Rey Amargo! I absolutely LOVE Rey Amargo's approach to chocolate. You can tell that there's a respect for the various cultural approaches to chocolate. From European to Mezoamerican and indigenous ways to enjoy hot chocolate, Rey Amargo has you covered. I went around early November and ordered Xocolatl and a pan de muerto. Don't order the xocolatl expecting your usual hot chocolate. Its name sake is more accurate: "bitter water" but in the best way possible. The Xocolatl was an experience in itself with each spice and ingredient added to my personal taste in a drink making ceremony. I don't know if it was actually part of the indigenous ceremony, but the barista kept emphasizing that we should maintain eye contact. If anything it added to a more personal drink experience! Great drinks, a respect for cultures, and a friendly and knowledgable staff! Rey Amargo, you've made a fan out of me! ¡Salud!

Nhan D.

Yelp
*This place is very cozy and cute to study or meeting friends. *They have all type of house make hot chocolate drinks that you would not heard of. *Love how they have oat milk options if you are vegan or lactose. * We had the Mayan hot chocolate drink, and it was nice roasted corn flavor in it. * Friendly staffs.

Steven Z.

Yelp
I always pass by Rey Amargo but haven't gone in since it's been pretty warm the past couple months. Now that the weather is cold, this place is top of mind! The barista asked me what my sweetness preferences were, and whether I wanted coffee or hot chocolate. I got the 50% cacao which was lovely, but still a tad sweet for me. I would have given full stars, but the ordering experience felt rushed. There were maybe 3 parties, and the couple ahead of me also was rushed in deciding (there are a lot of menu items to read through). For me, the barista started asking me questions before I even got to look at the menu. They neglected to mention the specials (like drinks with spices or roasted corn), which I definitely would have gotten. It would have been helpful to have a larger menu on the wall, or more menus on the counter so people standing in line can look while waiting.

Hanna S.

Yelp
Great knowledgeable staff. Incredible variety of options of chocolate coffee drinks or hot Chocolate drinks. Colorful decorations and inviting ambience. We are very lucky to have this place in Seattle. If you're interested in chocolate or just a foodie, this place is for you

Aneesa O.

Yelp
10/10 in terms of coffee and customer service. The baristas deliver every single time with the welcoming, the knowledge, and the patience with talking me through recommendations! I truly appreciate the genuine warmth I receive when I talk to someone. The blended coffee's are so dang good! I can't ever remember the names of them, but they are all tasty! I love buying the milk chocolate covered little treats in there too. :)

Shirin B.

Yelp
Truly this chocolate shop is a gem. As someone who generally doesn't order chocolatey foods, I got the traditional with a shot of espresso, and it was freaking fantastic. The people who were working at the time were so incredibly nice and they know what they're doing. Also, this is a fantastic place to work! If you're a chocolate lover, Rey Amargo is definitely a place to check out!

Sara R.

Yelp
Wow. This was such a unique afternoon treat -love that drinks are cacao based, and served in tall narrow 12 oz. ceramic mugs; keeps the drink warm longer. My friend had the Xocolato, and pronounced it a "bowl of cacao soup"-- not sweet, which is what she wanted. Customer adds vanilla syrup, cinnamon, pepper accdg to their taste. Then also ordered churros to get something sweet going! I had the Spicy Mexican Mocha and found the addition of chili pepper balanced the chocolate flavor. It was delicious. The space is clean w/high ceilings, and an entire wall mural depicting a tropical jungle of cacao beans. Only disappointment is shortage of seating--Just a couple tables and some stools at the front window -- Other chocolate products sit on wall shelving; which could be re-arranged along the service counter and add a couple more 2 person table/seats against that wall...

Yelp
Pandemic one year later, life has returned to Capitol Hill. Why? Because it takes several twirls to find a parking spot! Parked my car a few blocks away, stopped by an indie doughnut shop, and realized I was near Rey Amargo Chocolate Shop (3/21/21). Nice retail shop located at street level of one of many condo/apartments along E Pike. Remember to be masked and mind the social distancing upon entrance. I liked the sleek, modern interior and was greeted upon entry. No indoor seating allowed yet, but still felt welcoming. Various beverages and merchandise are available for purchase, including Wallingford's Tres Lecheria treats. I selected a Rey Amargo Supreme hot chocolate with 42% cacao. Taking sips, walking in the rain, back to my car, reminded me of the late El Diablo on Queen Anne. Nice blend of sugar, cinnamon, milk, and their signature chocolate. Most of the Supreme got handed off to The Homie back at home. He deemed it also tasty. Note to self, need to return and explore the rest of their product line. If you find yourself in the Pike/Pine corridor of Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood, be sure to stop in.

Dru C.

Yelp
I was literally looking for coffee after waking up from my night shenanigans, and I was walking down the hill back to my hotel, this place popped up on my Yelp. I passed by it on my way down and I dropped in for a simple cup of chocolate coffee. Surprisingly, this place was quiet, and it felt very homey to me. The vibe was just perfect and the barista is extremely helpful at the time. I asked for a cup of iced water to sober up and then asked for what I should order from their menu for coffee. I got their medium size of chocolate cup of coffee and it was delicious. It didn't taste too sweet, which is something I hate in the early morning, and I loved how you can still taste the strong bitter coffee notes. It really helped me spark me up for the rest of the day and thank you for being open that early in the morning and helping me get over my hang over!! Might come back again if I am walking down the hill again if I pass by.

Em G.

Yelp
Have you heard about the brand new Mexican coffee shop on Caphill? Did you know it's the first in the US? Bringing colourful vibrancy to the hot beverage market, Rey Amargo brings you the traditional and fun that you might not have seen in today's coffee/hot chocolate world. First off, the staff are super knowledgeable in the craft and friendly to boot! If you got questions they'll happily explain and answer all your needs! I ended up getting the Spanish-Style Chocolate ; a thick, almost pudding like consistency, topped with homemade whipping cream and chocolate syrup, a a mini chocolate baton and shaved chocolate bits. Indulgence to the MAX! But the best part was it wasn't overly sweet as most American hot chocolates are. If you prefer even less sweet they have a drink for you! They also give you a spoon. Trust me you'll need it. Check them out if you're in the area! Support the local and small businesses in your neighborhood, you might end up discovering your new favourite thing! Keep up the fantastic job and continue in your success Rey Am

Urba M.

Yelp
Really great selection of chocolates and espresso drinks! We tried the Marocchino and the mocha with orange flavor added to it. The Marocchino is not sweet at all, so I'd recommend adding either a little vanilla or sugar syrup if you'd like a bit of sweetness. It's a rich, creamy chocolate with really good espresso. I didn't love the mocha, but my husband likes the chocolate/orange flavor combo so he was a fan. Friendly staff and nice spot to people watch. I was tempted to pick up some hot chocolate, so I'll be trying that the next time I'm back.

Elisa T.

Yelp
I tried the Mexican hot chocolate and churros with the chocolate dipping sauce! They were both really great especially the Mexican traditional hot chocolate. The churros came out hot and warm and paired nicely with the chocolate dipping sauce we got. I really liked the interior as well and could see it being a nice place to work at.

Earnie G.

Yelp
A great addition to Seattle. This is the first US outlet of one of the historical, medium sized Mexican chocolate producers. It's a cafe focused on Mexican drinking chocolate (both hot and cold). They do have some pastries and will have a few things like sandwiches post COVID. (It's only opened recently at the time I am writing this.) The drinking chocolates are good. They are Mexican style, which means they are going to have little bits of chocolate and spices in them. That's the style. They also offer their interpretation of various styles and flavors of drinking chocolate (South American, European, etc) as well as various flavors of Mexican drinking chocolate. The ones from other places are more about flavors then they are about accuracy in style. But that's okay. They're still fun to try. I need to return to try the hot chocolates with corn (there are several). We did flights of six of the selections this trip. Different people in our group of three liked different ones better than others. That's the fun of it. They also have various coffee beverages and various mocha style drinks. The only thing I don't recommend are the refined chocolates (the María Bonita Chocolates line). For some reason, Rey Amargo uses traditional production methods for its Mexican drinking chocolates, then turns around and uses heavy industrial methods for its refined chocolates. Very disappointing. There are several craft chocolate makers who could work with them in Mexico to use artisan craft chocolate making methods to make refined chocolate. I hope they will consider changing their María Bonita Chocolates line to something more craft and less industrial. Worth a visit and worth supporting this effort by Rey Amargo to expand into the US market.

Divya R.

Yelp
Delicious coffees and hot chocs! Chanced upon this wonderful hole in the wall and it is charming to spend a nice afternoon coffee break at! Kids loved the hot chocolates so that's a bonus!!

Jamie J.

Yelp
Really unique coffee/chocolate shop in the middle of a lovely neighborhood in Seattle. The barista was super friendly and helped describe the various sweetness levels and all of the options. Great coffee, very rich and chocolatey, definitely a slow sipper! Not something I would drink everyday, but it was the perfect accompaniment to the cold Seattle day :)

Carolina R.

Yelp
I found Rey Amargo on Instagram and checked it out on a Saturday afternoon and can't wait to go back! I had one of their hot chocolates and a concha from Bakescapade. It was quiet and had a table to read. The workers were so nice and learned they originated in Mexico! I can't wait to come back and try more of their hot chocolates and churros! Definitely recommend

Shreya M.

Yelp
drinks are delicious and it's a nice place to get some work done. Seating is limited but there's usually not too many people, based on the two times i've been. music is nice too

Zach A.

Yelp
Wow, this place blew me away. Right in Capitol Hill. I walked in not knowing anything about this place and was greeted with a really nice vibe and equally nice staff. They walked me through the menu and helped me pick something. Staff took their time explaining to me the origins of the chocolate and styles that they use here and gave me a great rundown. In my case I got the Aztec Hot Chocolate, which has corn in it. This was one of the pricier ones, yet at only $5.25 it is not at all a terrible deal when you consider the prices at nearby places. The hot chocolate was unique and very tasty, not overly sweet yet satisfying. I also got some strawberry chocolates which were very yummy as well. The atmosphere in here was really good. It's less Seattle pretentious and more honest and laid back, while still having a great aesthetic and calming feeling. Love this place, will be back.

Yelp
Best Hot Chocolate in Seattle. The employees were so nice & helpful! The inside was beautifully decorated and clean. We ordered two Rey Amargo Traditional Hot Chocolates and a xconcha (I believe it had gingerbread in it?). The drinks were not your typical American hot chocolates... The flavor was rich, very tasty and AUTHENTIC. You can definitely taste the cacao. As a concha lover, I had to try the xconcha! It was moist and thicker than most conchas I have had. Nonetheless, it was delicious. Again, I have had countless amounts of conchas and this was one of the best. The flavors are also different than the ones typically offered at a panadería which is a plus! I recommend dipping your concha in the hot chocolate too. Must-try if you are in the area wanting a delicious warm beverage on a chilly night.

Yelp
Cute, clean newish addition to Pike/Pine with a focus on cold and hot chocolate drinks. I came on a very rainy day and it was the perfect treat. I ordered the hot chocolate with red pepper and I loved the heat! In the past, I've ordered this before at other shops but it's never spicy enough. This was the ticket! There was only one other person inside when I went so I decided to sit and watch the rain come down outside...it was perfect. I ended up taking home a bar of their chocolate meant for making cocoa at home. I can't wait! The inside of the shop is super cute and I loved the artwork on the walls...so colorful and inviting. The staff are super friendly and welcoming. Go on Wednesday-Sunday from 8-9 a.m. and get 50% off the traditional hot chocolate!

Yelp
Rey Amargo Chocolate Shop, now newly opened on bustling Pike Street in the heart of Capitol Hill, offers an extensive selection of delicious Mexican and European style hot chocolates and the best tres leches cakes from the local Tres Lecheria in Wallingford. 1) Service (+): This is a self-serve style "coffee" shop and all the baristas are super friendly and offer great advice on drinks and food. 2) Ambience (-): I love the cozy vibe of the shop although there is not a lot of seating - just some stools by the window and 2-3 other tables so it's hard to catch up with friends or work from here. 3) Food (+): I paired the Hot Megachoco (Rey Amargo's classic hot coca) with the traditional Tres Leches cake and it was exquisite! 4) Value for Money (+): Rey Amargo is reasonably priced with beverages in the $4-$7 range (blended iced drinks are on the more expensive side) , and cakes around the same. There are also sandwiches in the $11-$12 range but I have not tried them.

Yelp
I had the most stunning hot chocolate here. I got both the French and the Aztec and they were both excellent. August helped me out with navigating the menu and was so kind and hospitable. Can't wait to go again!

Yelp
A+ for unique and cool ways to enjoy a regular ol' hot chocolate or even a latte. There is one that if you order, they make it by hand to your specifications. It's an experience! I also love that they support BYOM (bring your own mug). With all the plastic piling up around us, I appreciate this! The store associates were kind and informative. It's definitely something you need to try in Seattle - a good destination trip for a rainy day, friends visiting, or fussy teens. . Cafe has an intimate vibe.

Yelp
Super accessible location Right in Cap Hill. Fresh Mexican chocolate and a whole bunch of tres leche cakes to chose from. A reason for the 2? The chai was all milk. Even the color is a bit .... Unsettling. There was no flavor besides the whole milk and I was super disappointed in the way it tastes.
