2 Days In Reykjavik

"If you're an art aficionado, head for your second gallery, Kjarvalsstadir, located two kilometres southwest of Hafnarhus, a pleasant half-hour stroll through quiet suburban streets. Upon arrival, you may think you’re in the wrong place, but worry not, this brutalist grey building really is an art gallery. Frequently displaying works of Johannes S. Kjarval, Iceland’s most prolific artist of the 20th century, the variety of art on display makes the trip out to Kjarvalsstadir well worth it. When leaving the museum, spend a few minutes wandering around Klambratun Park, where the panoramic view across the city is second to none." - The MICHELIN Guide Nordic Editorial Team

Lovely museum with two mid-sized galleries and a lively cafe that over looks the surrounding park. Modern Icelandic works - currently one gallery includes artworks by Icelandic artists that span approximately six decades following the turn of the 20th century and the other the latest show, “Unspoken,” a career overview and new work by Kristín Gunnlaugsdóttir. Loved this exhibit - evocative work.

Some awesome art but had to subtract a star for the noisy cafe that’s co-located. East gallery was a little quieter, but the West gallery had doors open mid-gallery, would’ve been quieter if only the far doors were used.

Great museum featuring one (most?) famous Icelandic painter. Tickets are good for all three Reykjavik Art Museums

Great art museum located in the park. The best part of the museum is that your ticket works for all three locations. On its own the museum is a bit too small to be worth the price but if you go to the other museums then it's more than worth it. The exhibits rotate so be sure to check before you go to see if it's something that interests you. Small cafe and gift shop located in the museum.

I'm not that interested in art, but I did find some interesting paintings on the current exhibitions, which weren't exclusively limited to Kjarval's own work. However the lighting was poorly configured, hence making it difficult to see some paintings properly. There was an entry fee north of 2000 ISK for adults, and a bit less for students (students abroad applicable). It's a small and relaxing art museum, and the staff was equally relaxed and friendly.
