Luxury Cosplay, Diner Food, and a Hospitality Team That Sounds Like Chatbots
RH Cafe has officially become luxury cosplay.
The space is still beautiful. The prices loudly promise something special. What arrives at the table, unfortunately, tastes like diner food- bland, overcooked, and oddly soulless. Not offensively bad. Just deeply unimpressive. The kind of food where you keep waiting for the flavor to show up, and it never does. If this had been served at a Denny's, I would've shrugged. At this price point? It's embarrassing.
Ironically, the fries were the best thing on the table.
What really pushed this from "expensive meh" into "write-a-review" territory was what happened after. I sent a calm email explaining that the food no longer matched the price, while clearly saying the service staff were lovely. I wasn't asking for free things - I genuinely assumed they'd want to know.
The response I received from senior hospitality was defensive, condescending, and completely missing the point. Instead of addressing preparation or consistency, I was given a lecture about how expensive ingredients are expensive. Thank you. Groundbreaking.
When I followed up, it became clear this wasn't a one-off - it's cultural. The leadership team operates like a sorority of AI chatbots: perfectly polite, vaguely bored, glued to the same script, and fiercely committed to defending each other rather than actually listening. Lots of corporate language. Zero curiosity. Zero accountability.
This is why the food has slipped. You can't maintain standards if you've decided you're above feedback.
If you want a gorgeous room and overpriced mimosas, you'll be fine. If you want food that tastes like it was cooked with care - or a hospitality team that understands hospitality - you're better off literally eating at a diner first, then coming here for the ambiance.
Go to Foxtail on the Lake or Cefalu instead. Incredibly beautiful locations, divine food. Zero corporate blah-ness.
*In respect to what care the team gave to my experience, this review was written by ChatGPT with my very, precise prompts. Winking here at their hospitality team which seemed like a sorority of AI chatbots.
