We visited Savannah in September and had dinner at Rhett's on our first night. We made a reservation for that Wednesday evening, but didn't need it. The restaurant wasn't busy, just a few tables occupied. We were greeted and seated right away. The space had a cozy and romantic vibe.
Our server was phenomenal. She warned us that they were understaffed and there might be some wait. We appreciated the warning and she was right, there was indeed a wait in between courses.
We ordered the following:
Get Up & Go $16
Market oysters (half dozen) $21
Chilled king crab
Old Bay fries $9
She crab soup $16
Rhett Caesar $15
Grouper $38
The Get Up & Go is their version of the espresso martini, but with cold brew. It was good and I'm glad I tried it, but I would have preferred it with real espresso. Rhett's does serve espresso, but the cocktail comes with a premade mix (I asked). The oysters and chilled king crab legs were fresh and tasty. Great starters. I love seasoned fries and the Old Bay fries hit the spot for me. The she crab soup was creamy and seasoned well. The Rhett caesar was a delicious twist to the classic caesar salad. The grits croutons and fried okra were fantastic additions to the salad. The grouper came with field pea succotash, country ham salad, and tomato vinaigrette. I enjoyed the flavor and different textures.
Initially, we were fine with the wait and it was too late to search for a different restaurant. Despite not being in a hurry, we tried to be patient, but the meal took a long time. I think we spent nearly two hours there. Exhausted from traveling coast to coast, we were eager to turn in. Towards the end of our meal, our server disappeared for a while and my husband had to flag someone down to get the check.
We really enjoyed the food and would definitely return when we're back in Savannah. I just hope they're fully staffed now.
