Rhinefield House Hotel | Best places to stay in the New Forest

"A Tudor-Gothic mansion surrounded by ornamental ponds and elegantly manicured gardens, the Rhinefield is the perfect choice for those seeking a classic country house experience. Bedrooms can feel a touch corporate, but are super-comfy, with Hypnos mattresses and air-conditioning (rare in such a period property). This is the kind of hotel where you can leave the car for your whole stay; there are miles of walks from the hotel door, an indoor pool and two upscale restaurants. Don’t miss the chance to peek into the Alhambra room – an extraordinary, jewelled re-creation of the Alhambra palace – originally designed by the owner as a smoking room for her husband, now a private dining room. This beautiful hotel was filled to capacity on such a glorious bank holiday weekend, yet the atmosphere was relaxed from the moment we arrived. We were greeted by charming reception staff, and headed to our room. We had a couple of maintenance issues which were promptly addressed but facilities, cleanliness we cannot fault, although dressing table etc are showing signs of age. On such a beautiful day, walking around this stunning property you get to see its fully beauty! The work must be immense keeping the house & grounds at this glorious level, truly a moment to appreciate the dedication of all the staff, because the hotel feels loved!|Food was beautiful, being gluten free, we are sometimes viewed as ‘awkward or faddy’ but health dictates sometimes! Here I was truly impressed at the level of delicious food available. All the produce is clearly well sourced and cooked by competent Chefs. |The staff are truly exceptional, and many thanks to Harry in the Restaurant, just pure joy. What an asset he is to the team!|Pool area is well kept, very safe for children. Towels and drinks available.|Our room (a classic) was comfortable, albeit on the small side but well appointed & nothing beats a quality mattress & pillows, all turned down ready for you to retire & sleep like a baby. Our last morning came all too soon, having breakfast served in our room was a great start to seeing us on our way home. It really has been a wonderful much needed break & the kind gesture recognising our anniversary was much appreciated, we felt very special, thank you !

Superb venue. Service even better...||We booked for a family afternoon tea and everything was perfect. We had champagne on arrival, and everything that was served from the pitivier to the cakes and sandwiches was phenomenal.||Pictures paint 1000 words which is why I've attached our experience. Which honestly was faultless.||Massive shout out to Kiera and Deborah who looked after us all afternoon. They couldn't have done more for us especially as we can be quite a demanding family. So very well done 👏 ||Thankyou. We definitely be returning.

Discovered a gem on our doorstep. We have lived in the New Forest for 40 years but this was our first visit. The staff our so welcoming, the house and grounds are quite magical. We ate from the Bar menu at lunchtime, lots of choice and reasonably priced. We ate in the Amarda restaurant in the evening. The food was outstanding. Not forgetting the Spa treatments, perfect. We will be back soon.

Fantastic stay at Rhinefield house. Service was perfect - everyone was very accommodating with us and our 3 month old baby. Food was great in both the Armada and Conservatory restaurants. House and grounds were lovely and the outdoor pool was great on a hot day. Spacious room with comfortable bed. Couldn’t have asked for much more - will definitely return again when the little one can enjoy it more! Thank you!

We have just had the most relaxing 3 night stay at this beautiful hotel and feel so refreshed. We have been visiting the New Forest for many years and this was our first break at Rhinefield House. Attention to detail and customer service was excellent. Cleanliness was perfect and quality touches everywhere made our stay such a relaxing one. Food and service was outstanding and the lounge bar team were really lovely and very efficient. Thank you to everyone who made our stay so wonderful. Including the family of deer who visited just outside our room window, as we were located right on the forest edge, every morning. We will be back ☺️.

It’s a beautiful place and I was very happy with my family room looking out to the forest. We were placed in Azalea for 2 nights, which is the last room in the new wing, so it’s about the furthest away from breakfast dining but I was happy with that, as the room was very quiet. No one walking past and no room opposite to hear a door slamming. The room was very nice and comfortable. The staff were all very kind and sincere and the food was really nice, credit to the chefs. There were some glitches with the supper service, hence losing a star, but nothing too major as to bother us much. I have raised these points with management who assure me they will be rectified and I look forward to smoother service on my next visit.

We spent our honeymoon here at the Rhinefield, and it was absolutely perfect. The staff really went above and beyond to make things special, and a special thanks to Marcio, who was so accommodating and a pleasure to speak to, he really made mealtimes something we looked forward to. The rooms were clean, and the robes were a nice plus to have! The location was perfect for New Forest hiking, and main villages were only a 10 minute drive away. The free roaming deer on the lands, as well as the horses and even highland cows really made the visit feel magical! Would recommend for New Forest stays!

Yelp
Just stayed here for two nights and would say that it was a practically perfect time. From the moment you arrive you are made to feel like royalty and that feels like nothing once you experience the dinner service (in the Armada, not the Brasserie). The 'classic' rooms might not have had a 'wow' factor, but were comfortable and well-equipped enough for a 4 star, just. The real wow factor comes from the rest of the hotel. The building and grounds are simply magnificent and have been renovated to a wonderful standard. There's a spa area, perfect for a morning dip and a bubbling jaccuzi perfect for easing aching muscles after cycling around the New Forest. I would agree with the other reviewer (Kekepania) however, that as wonderful as the breakfast should be on paper, the staff just don't seem as 'on-it' as they are during dinner. The plates weren't cleared away correctly (witnessed for other guests too!), and the breakfast staff sometimes forgot or mixed up guest requests. That doesn't overshadow the brilliance of this place however and I would definitely recommend it. If you can afford it, it would also make a stunning wedding venue.

Yelp
I must say that I was very impressed with this hotel from the moment I got there until the moment I left. It is in a lovely location in the New Forest and is breathtaking to look at. It looks like a huge castle, very impressive. The rooms were spacious and decorated well, was very relaxing and the bed was very comfortable. The bars were quite expensive but was to be expected in a place like this. The grounds were amazing and we were lucky to sit by the big pond and have afternoon tea. The breakfast wasn't too great but I am a fussy eater and like a full english but the service was amazing, the staff were very helpful and attentive.

Yelp
We visited Rhinefield House for a friends wedding and it is a stunning location. We spent time on the terrace buying drinks from the bar. It's more expensive than the general area but you are in a 4-star in the middle of the new forest. It's still not as expensive as London though. The wedding breakfast food was delicious, roasted pepper, tomato and basil soup followed by a daube of beef which was amazing. The portions were on the small side and we were all a bit disappointed as it was so nice and we had waited quite a while for it. The service should have been quicker and we were left wondering what was going to happen next between courses. The vanilla cheesecake dessert was also a winner, with a couple of raspberries on the side. The kids option was a fruit salad which only 2 of the 4 kids on our table ate, followed by chicken nuggets and fries. The fries were very dry as were the nuggets, which is probably why the kids didn't enjoy them. Plain ice-cream for desserts was also a disappointment. The evening buffet was also classy; tasty ribs, wraps, and sandwiches. Nothing microwaved in sight. The venue is beautiful and the service didn't stop us having a fab time. We didn't stay the night so can't comment on the rest of the wedding party's stay.

Yelp
Appalling - a horrible experience. We all got food poisoning from the restaurant. To add insult to injury, when we checked out we were presented with a bill for the meal that had sickened us. When this was challenged, a very surly manager said that the incident was merely an allegation. I guess we were faking the nausea and the diarrhea. This is a pretentious, nasty place. A sort of Fawlty Towers without the humor. Don't waste your time or money here. It's awful, offensive, filthy and they treat their customers with contempt. Yuk.

Yelp
3 visits over 3 years and each time we have been very pleased to return. Fantastic location and a breathtaking exterior, it is easy to feel overwhelmed when arriving at Rhinefield House. The interior is equally impressive with the bar area overlooking the huge pond. The grounds are worthy of an exploration whatever the time of year! Rooms are spacious and well designed, with the quirky edge of being named rather than given numbers. Your do not disturb sign is a little cuddly pony which again makes you feel rather warm inside! Dinner has never been a disappointment - the food is extremely well cooked, presented beautifully and accompanied with rather delicious wine. Breakfast is of a good standard but perhaps always a disappointment after the delights of dinner the night before. I will return here year after year - an amazing hotel.

Yelp
My husband and I jointly own Jacqui Marie Wedding Photography and would thoroughly recommend Rhinefield as a wedding venue. The photographic possibilities, inside and out, are fabulous.

Yelp
Beautiful grounds in a lovely location. Rooms were spacious and decor very well presented. The food was of very good standard, and the staff very warm and helpful. Would go back time and time again, hopefully in the summer when weather is warmer although I was there in February, nothing could detract from the delightful surroundings.
