Rhinefield House (Brockenhurst, Hampshire) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Visitors from outside the UK may not be aware that the New Forest got its name almost a thousand years ago, and is thus one of England’s best-preserved natural places. Rhinefield House is nowhere near as old — this Tudor-Gothic hybrid was constructed in the late 19th century — but its dramatic architecture and its idyllic setting combine to make it a tempting escape." - Tablet Hotels

Rhinefield House Hotel | Best places to stay in the New Forest

"A Tudor-Gothic mansion surrounded by ornamental ponds and elegantly manicured gardens, the Rhinefield is the perfect choice for those seeking a classic country house experience. Bedrooms can feel a touch corporate, but are super-comfy, with Hypnos mattresses and air-conditioning (rare in such a period property). This is the kind of hotel where you can leave the car for your whole stay; there are miles of walks from the hotel door, an indoor pool and two upscale restaurants. Don’t miss the chance to peek into the Alhambra room – an extraordinary, jewelled re-creation of the Alhambra palace – originally designed by the owner as a smoking room for her husband, now a private dining room. It was our first time at this hotel, we came for our friends special birthday meal. We were not disappointed from the drive up to the house to the minute we left. Every single member of staff were friendly, helpful and so attentive. We had our own private dinning room, our waiter for the night was Robert, he was exceptional and looked after us all so well. The food was outstanding, our rooms spotless with a comfortable bed. The gardens are beautiful, such wonderful photo opportunities. The breakfast ( which was 11/10) the following morning was set up in the largest of rooms with a huge, impressive fire place and chandeliers. At the end of the room was a beautifully decorated christmas tree. The whole hotel is stunning, it has a very relaxing atmosphere and myself and my family cannot stop raving about how wonderful our stay was. We will definitely be returning and would recomend this hotel to anyone.

We are repeat visitors, and really enjoy the hotel as an oasis in the New Forest. It’s close to wonderful walks and the scenic drive, and is always a calm and refined option for a few hours escape from the hustle and hustle of life. ||Today we enjoyed a couple of relaxing spa treatments which we had in the couples room. Excellent from both Alicia and Bronte, as always. It’s a real treat and we love coming here. ||We follow up with a lunch in the lounge bar, again a relaxing spot and with excellent service.

We had a two night break here and absolutely loved it! The hotel itself is beautiful and set in and around some gorgeous scenery. We did some lovely walks and even hired bikes to explore the area. We ate all meals in the hotel and all were delicious. Breakfast was fabulous, lots of choice and beautifully cooked. The sandwiches and cream teas at lunch were so good and both dinners were excellent quality with loads of options to choose from. We even managed a swim in the outdoor pool, had lovely spa treatments and truly felt relaxed after our 48 hours in the New Forest. I will say I saved the best for last- the staff!! Everyone was wonderful, nothing too much trouble and so helpful and kind. Liz on the reception was especially wonderful, as was Dan in the bar area.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ **A Wonderful Christmas Stay** We stayed at **Rhinefield House Hotel** for three nights over Christmas and had a truly wonderful time. The staff are absolutely *out of this world* — friendly, attentive, and creating such a warm, festive atmosphere throughout our stay. A special mention must go to **Heather**, who looked after us brilliantly on Christmas Day. She made the day feel relaxed, special, and effortless — an absolute credit to the hotel. The food was fantastic from start to finish — it genuinely felt like we never stopped eating, with one excellent meal rolling seamlessly into the next. A perfect way to spend Christmas. We’d happily return without hesitation.

We visited yesterday for tea, both the location and property are beautiful as we had anticipated BUT the visit was made more memorable by the staff. Despite the grandeur of the surroundings ALL the staff ensured the atmosphere was welcoming, service was excellent. Stand out thanks to team members Sarah and Deborah for their hosting.

This was our first time staying at the hotel and certainly won't be the last! The room was lovely, very spacious, with a nice view of the gardens. Nice touches with the complimentary bottled water and coffee pods. We booked ourselves in for dinner on the first night. The dining room was amazing! Big and grand; lovely decorations and a beautiful Christmas tree. The food was delicious! We're both vegan and the options were fantastic. What topped off the night was our waiter Harry. Give this man a raise! He was very welcoming, a quirky sense of humour and a generally nice guy. He also served us breakfast on both mornings, always with a smile and making us giggle. Before we left, we both gave him a handshake and thanked him for a great service. We had a wonder around the grounds of the hotel, such a lovely, peaceful, pretty place. We hope to come back very soon!

We had the best wedding here over the Christmas period, Abbie looked after us from the very first consultation all the way through to the final touches on the day. She regularly helped with questions and helping to ease any last minute stress! The food and venue was perfect especially with all the Xmas decorations up that meant most of the room was already set to go! We regularly visit Rhinefield so getting married there made complete sense! We used their suppliers for most of the add ons such as magician, photographer, decorations and all were perfect. We thoroughly reccomend this venue for your special day and Abbie for her support throughout.

Breakfast was another disappointment. It was not self-service; we had to order from the staff. We ordered coffee and were served a pot of coffee that was cold and tasteless. There was butter on the table but no bread. We waited around 30 minutes for breakfast, which was very poor and not what we wanted. The waitress asked what I would like, and I said I wasn’t sure and asked for a recommendation. She asked if I liked sausage and bacon. I said no, not for breakfast. She said she would bring a vegetable-based breakfast, but after waiting another 30 minutes, I was served a vegetarian sausage that tasted terrible, a small portion of canned beans, a fried egg, and potatoes. The egg was tasteless, and I don’t understand why this was called a “vegetable choice.” I am not vegetarian—I simply don’t like sausage for breakfast. I was shocked that this kind of breakfast is served in a hotel charging such high prices. This stay was not worth £270 per night, not even £100. The only positive aspects were the beautiful building, the decoration, and the location.

Yelp
Just stayed here for two nights and would say that it was a practically perfect time. From the moment you arrive you are made to feel like royalty and that feels like nothing once you experience the dinner service (in the Armada, not the Brasserie). The 'classic' rooms might not have had a 'wow' factor, but were comfortable and well-equipped enough for a 4 star, just. The real wow factor comes from the rest of the hotel. The building and grounds are simply magnificent and have been renovated to a wonderful standard. There's a spa area, perfect for a morning dip and a bubbling jaccuzi perfect for easing aching muscles after cycling around the New Forest. I would agree with the other reviewer (Kekepania) however, that as wonderful as the breakfast should be on paper, the staff just don't seem as 'on-it' as they are during dinner. The plates weren't cleared away correctly (witnessed for other guests too!), and the breakfast staff sometimes forgot or mixed up guest requests. That doesn't overshadow the brilliance of this place however and I would definitely recommend it. If you can afford it, it would also make a stunning wedding venue.

Yelp
I must say that I was very impressed with this hotel from the moment I got there until the moment I left. It is in a lovely location in the New Forest and is breathtaking to look at. It looks like a huge castle, very impressive. The rooms were spacious and decorated well, was very relaxing and the bed was very comfortable. The bars were quite expensive but was to be expected in a place like this. The grounds were amazing and we were lucky to sit by the big pond and have afternoon tea. The breakfast wasn't too great but I am a fussy eater and like a full english but the service was amazing, the staff were very helpful and attentive.

Yelp
We visited Rhinefield House for a friends wedding and it is a stunning location. We spent time on the terrace buying drinks from the bar. It's more expensive than the general area but you are in a 4-star in the middle of the new forest. It's still not as expensive as London though. The wedding breakfast food was delicious, roasted pepper, tomato and basil soup followed by a daube of beef which was amazing. The portions were on the small side and we were all a bit disappointed as it was so nice and we had waited quite a while for it. The service should have been quicker and we were left wondering what was going to happen next between courses. The vanilla cheesecake dessert was also a winner, with a couple of raspberries on the side. The kids option was a fruit salad which only 2 of the 4 kids on our table ate, followed by chicken nuggets and fries. The fries were very dry as were the nuggets, which is probably why the kids didn't enjoy them. Plain ice-cream for desserts was also a disappointment. The evening buffet was also classy; tasty ribs, wraps, and sandwiches. Nothing microwaved in sight. The venue is beautiful and the service didn't stop us having a fab time. We didn't stay the night so can't comment on the rest of the wedding party's stay.

Yelp
Appalling - a horrible experience. We all got food poisoning from the restaurant. To add insult to injury, when we checked out we were presented with a bill for the meal that had sickened us. When this was challenged, a very surly manager said that the incident was merely an allegation. I guess we were faking the nausea and the diarrhea. This is a pretentious, nasty place. A sort of Fawlty Towers without the humor. Don't waste your time or money here. It's awful, offensive, filthy and they treat their customers with contempt. Yuk.

Yelp
3 visits over 3 years and each time we have been very pleased to return. Fantastic location and a breathtaking exterior, it is easy to feel overwhelmed when arriving at Rhinefield House. The interior is equally impressive with the bar area overlooking the huge pond. The grounds are worthy of an exploration whatever the time of year! Rooms are spacious and well designed, with the quirky edge of being named rather than given numbers. Your do not disturb sign is a little cuddly pony which again makes you feel rather warm inside! Dinner has never been a disappointment - the food is extremely well cooked, presented beautifully and accompanied with rather delicious wine. Breakfast is of a good standard but perhaps always a disappointment after the delights of dinner the night before. I will return here year after year - an amazing hotel.

Yelp
My husband and I jointly own Jacqui Marie Wedding Photography and would thoroughly recommend Rhinefield as a wedding venue. The photographic possibilities, inside and out, are fabulous.

Yelp
Beautiful grounds in a lovely location. Rooms were spacious and decor very well presented. The food was of very good standard, and the staff very warm and helpful. Would go back time and time again, hopefully in the summer when weather is warmer although I was there in February, nothing could detract from the delightful surroundings.
