The only space in DC consistently enabling and encouraging artists (local, national, and international) to do what they want. Go to any performance, gallery show, or workshop and you’ll have a great experience and connect with interesting people. We’re lucky to have Rhizome.

Such a Hidden Gem! All the performances were beautifully experimental and excellent! Crowd was supportive and atmosphere was chill! Will come back!

This is a way cool place for unadulterated art and music. I was really surprised by the intimacy and kindness of everyone — from the artists and the host. Looking forward to future events and a chance to collaborate.

Great place to listen to music and meet friends. Went here for the La Perla and Taxi Vision show in May. The staff, attendees and performers were all friendly. It has sort of a friendly, homey vibe. People even brought their kids!

Always looking for places where creativity and authentic community can come together and this is a rare gem in the DMV. We went for a punk show on a sunday afternoon and were amazed by the talent, emotion and raw energy of the artists as well as the homie space. It is literally a house turned community center. They have discussions, workshops and great music. Can't wait to go back.

Rhizome DC is one of the most unique things in all of Washington, DC. It's an arts community/space in a stand alone family home in Takoma. On the first floor in the living room is where musicians perform their art. My wife, baby, and friend attended a 24-hour music concert where anyone could bring an instrument and join in. When we entered, there was a $10 suggested donation box. In the back was an artists painting to the music with books scattered on the floor. No one acknowledged us at all, which was odd. The upstairs is a public art gallery with art on the walls for sale. One room allows you to add to the art by using a sharpie to write anything on the walls from a drawing to poerty. If you want a creative experience in DC, come here. It proves DC is more than politics.

This is a converted house that is a community arts space. This is one of the best Avant Garde and Experimental music venues in the country, and also has art and installations on the upper floor. If you are interested in listening to free jazz, free improvisation, electronic experimental soundscapes, and even the occasional punk band, there is no better venue in DC. The shows are almost all intimate, and there is a community vibe. But you will also meet and see some of the central figures in DC music past and present. In a few short years this has become one of the most important venues in DC. A community art space, meets one of the leading places to see avant garde music in America. Highly recommended if one is in DC.

This quant house in North DC is a home away from home for artists. They host various artistic events that cultivate community. I've seen everything from painting, sound art, and fiber art events at this location. If you are an artist looking to host an event I absolutely recommend Rhizome DC, not to mention there is some parking near the house! Parking in DC? So rare!
