"It’s a scene at Rian’s Seafood Grill, where a sleek bar and seemingly endless rounds of martinis abound. And while the atmosphere and bar are sure to generate a memorable dining experience, the seafood remains the essential draw. Its contemporary interpretations of Louisiana cooking are demonstrated through flavorful sides like crab fried rice and crawfish queso, and house favorites, like their Louisiana gumbo brimming with andouille sausage, and classic red beans and rice." - Kayla Stewart

Yelp
So we (my husband and I) attend West End Church and had passed Rian's a few times so finally said 'Eh let's go in for once' for lunch and I'm SO glad we did. Everything was absolutely delicious. We got tbe crawfish queso, frked shrimp platter, fried catfish platter, and the peach cobbler. Everything was perfectly seasoned and portioned. The fries had that perfect crunch. The peach cobbler was so good my husband who doesn't even like peach cobbler helped me finish it. I can't wait to go back and try more.

Yelp
We dine at a new restaurant every week. I was so excited about trying Rian's as I knew it was a new business and we like to support those starting out. We researched the menu, read reviews and got excited about our choices. We arrived to a very friendly hostess and smell. I normally order a cocktail, appetizer and entrée.. just to get a feel of everything. My blueberry lemon drop was very very tasty as was the appetizer. 5 small shrimp for $13 My husband ordered oysters and that's were it all went south. Normally condiments come with oysters. Horseradish, a red sauce...something. These came out on a plate...without ice. They were room temperature sliding all over the plate and we had to flag down two different people for lemons, hot sauce, any sauce. They were fishy and he couldn't finish them. I had gumbo...chicken and sausage was to only option and crackers for both oysters and gumbo were very stale. We were only given four packages of crackers each and the owner joked about charging us because we need more. There were 12 oysters and a bowl of gumbo. We need crackers! AT the end of the meal the owner asked how things were. I told him earlier how great my cocktail was but the details on the oysters. He only said "Tell me next time in the mix" as he handed me the $75 bill. It is really a sacrifice and luxury for some to dine out during these times. I think restaurants should do their very best with all of the details to get repeat customers and recommendations... especially when there's restaurants on every corner striving to work hard for business. I do not like to give negative reviews but money is not easy to come by. I have a small business and work very hard for every customer as well as take EVERY piece of feedback very seriously.

Yelp
Rian's Seafood Grill is a tucked away gem in Rice Military. I came in here with a group on Saturday afternoon, ready to get down on some Louisiana and Gulf coast style seafood. I knew I was going to like this place as soon as I entered. Smooth music blasting and people enjoying themselves over a drink or incredible smelling food. For starters, we ordered a spicy boudin link and the spinach and crab dip. The spicy boudin link was on another level! That's the best boudin I've had on this side of the Sabine River. I almost ordered one more but I already had so much more food coming. They also brought out complimentary crackers to eat with the boudin. The spinach and crab dip was tasty and the chips that came with it were crispy and crunchy, lightly salted and perfect for scooping up the dip. Thicker than a snicker so they didn't break while dipping. Next up was a shrimp po boy with a side of seasoned fries. I enjoyed this take on the po boy. Fully dressed to impress, the shrimp' mayo, lettuce, pickles and tomato hit the spot, sitting in between two pieces of French bread that were crispy on the outside and soft as a pillow on the inside. The fettuccine pasta with chicken was delicious. Creamy and seasoned well, it was hard to stop eating. The shrimp and grits were a winner! Huge Gulf shrimp in cheese grits that were so creamy, I thought I was in a dream. I could eat this for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is a bar in the restaurant where the drinks were flowing and the people were glowing. The waitstaff was impeccable, stopping by several times to check on my party. The co owner stopped by several times as well and we discussed the food and the restaurant. Rian's was an exciting dining experience in a comfortable, lively setting. I'll definitely come back soon to support this business and the great people working here. You should too.

Yelp
That was the best gumbo I've ever had! Perfectly seasoned, spicy, AMAZING! Service is fantastic, too!

Yelp
Went last night w a group of girlfriends. Our server Julie was a sweetheart! For reasons unknown, she was the only server working and for being the only one taking care of taking orders, putting them in, grabbing drinks, cleaning up, etc she handled it well. With that being said there was a delay in getting everything but we all understood what was happening so we were fine. Other patrons were not and she even handled those grumpy old people really well. Food was delicious! I ordered a fried shrimp platter that came with fries and I ordered a lemon drop martini. The shrimp were a little on the drier side but the fries and lemon drop sure did make up for it! I sampled my friends Shrimp and grits and those were delicious! I also tried my friends mashed potatoes and they too were delicious. Food and drinks were good! I do want to recommend to the manager that night that if your employee is having to do it all alone, it's time to jump in and be a server too ON TOP of running everything else. That's what good management would do. All in all, would try it again and hope Julie isn't still doing it alone. I gave 4 stars because although I did see the manager mixing drinks, I would have liked to have seen him taking care of some tables too. Maybe should have split the duty between the two of them and given the only server there a hand.

Yelp
Amazing food! The service was amazing and very attentive! This black owned restaurant didn't have the typical cookie cutter Ambiance that I've been experiencing from black owned restaurants in the city. I can't wait to bring more people to enjoy great food and vibes! Let's not forget the drinks and music ! Very grown and sexy!

Daniele A.

Yelp
The food was really good and comforting. Restaurant small and quaint, service was really good. Blueberry lemon drop was delicious. The owner is the best part of this place, he was just so cool!

Yelp
My wife and I were in Houston craving some seafood so we thought we would check this place out. It was too busy, plenty of parking and right away when we walked in we were greeted and seated. Our waiter (which I think was the owner as well) was very polite, helpful and got our drinks fairly quickly. The inside is overall very nice, quite w a few tvs but they aren't blasting so you are able to have conversations w out yelling. The bathrooms are also very clean! The food was amazing. Super well seasoned! The shrimp po boy was top notched. The bread got a bit soggy after awhile which would be my only "complaint" this place is a must try and we will definitely be going back! Thank you Rian's for making our first experience an amazing one!

Lori R.

Yelp
We were in the area looking for a lunch spot. Not crowded at all when we arrived. We were greeted by a kind, attentive gentleman who made sure everything was to our liking and it was! Great drinks, catfish basket cooked to perfection for both of us. Lots of food for lunch, would definitely go back!

Brooks B.

Yelp
We came in for a baseball tournament, and we're looking for a place to get quality seafood. There is no better place than Rian'. The service was amazing, atmosphere super calm, and food was incredible. 5 star restaurant for sure!

Lmr R.

Yelp
This building used to be our favorite Indian restaurant which sadly closed and moved, but Rian's does not disappoint! When we walked in we were greeted by Rodney, the owner, made to feel at home. His recommendations were on point and the food awesome...everything awesome....we have been back several times and we are going thru the menu, our new favorite seafood 'home'....be sure and ask about the crabcakes, the smothered boudin, to name but 2 Thank you Rodney for opening this great restaurant just down from us, we are your new regulars and recommend you to everyone we can.

Claire B.

Yelp
Everything was overly salty. Many of the dishes used the same base sauce. Wanted to like it, but it just didn't hit the mark. Nothing tasted fresh. The decor was an afterthought and the table was wobbly. Friendly staff, though - I'm sure they can find jobs elsewhere once this place fails.

Coleman E.

Yelp
I love this place. Didn't leave anything left on the plate. And the peach cobbler was bussin! Great environment and friendly staff.

Tracie K.

Yelp
Food and drinks were amazing. The signature Old Fashioned was perfect. The service was very attentive. Will definitely be back.

Hello H.

Yelp
Thanks Rodney and Key for the great customer service, delicious food, large parties, separate tabs and friendly service. Rodney is the owner and he came by several times to check on us!! Free parking!! Drinks were great also. Keep up the AWESOME SOME work!

Lakisha H.

Yelp
I was looking for real gulf catfish and a nice cocktail. So I searched Google and Yelp reviews in my area and found RIAN'S. This eatery more than met my expectations, Rodney was very hospitable and explained their menu offerings very well! A couple of "regulars" came in for a quick drink and we made great conversation about their great experiences at RIAN'S as well. They were just opening and preparing for a busy day, but that did stop them from providing excellent service and food. I had the crawfish dip with the house made chips, catfish and crab fried rice. My drinks were the blueberry lemon drop and their version of a good old fashioned! I'll try their sidecar on my next visit. I heard great things about them! I appreciate the great experience and will be back!

Autumn M.

Yelp
Amazing food & service from the owners. Best gumbo we've ever had and I'm Cajun and we lived in New Orleans. The praline bread pudding was the perfect ending. The restaurant is clean and cozy. We live far away but will gladly drive up to Houston to dine here again. We've told everyone we know to go.

Kimberly K.

Yelp
Excellent food and service! Brussel Sprouts are always a must. Fish over spinach with asparagus and crab fried rice.

Jeff M.

Yelp
Popped in today for the first time, so only tried the catfish pieces and a "creole fashioned", but both were very good, and Rodney behind the bar was excellent. Worth a shot for sure if you're in the neighborhood!

DL T.

Yelp
We celebrated a special lady's birthday here with friends and family. The food takes you back to being in "Da Boot". Service was great. Good location for an intimate date night. Would definitely recommend and will be back. Oh, and depending on the bartender, you might get a refreshing drink called "Light-skinned with freckles".

Kerri M.

Yelp
Thrilled to have recently discovered Rian's Seafood Grill -- what a delicious way to kick off a birthday weekend! We started our small celebration with several Signature Drinks including the dangerously delicious (and highly recommended) Blueberry Lemon Drop. Dare you to have just one! We ordered Gumbo, Fresh Catch Red Fish with Pontchartrain Sauce, Brussel Sprouts, and Fish & Grits with Blackened Red Fish. All were large servings, included warm buttery garlic bread (once again, I dare you to have just one)... all with authentic & beyond fantastic flavors. Taste buds and bellies too satisfied to try desert, so adding that to my list on my next visit which will definitely be soon. The space is intimate enough for a date night, but also homey enough for friends to gather together. Plenty of parking nearby as well. What about the "lagniappe", you ask? That would easily be Rodney and Lizzy who were both sweet, funny, and helpful with questions and recommendations. See y'all sooner than you think!

Yelp
We were in Houston for the stock show. Saw the reviews and figured since it had great reviews, it must be good. We waited for 45 minutes before all of us finally had our drinks. 6 out of 9 of the people got their food and the other 3 never received their food. When approached they offered to box it because the rest of the table was finished. Horrible experience! Also...when taking the orders the waitress said "oh I'm sorry I have adhd." I'm a SPED teacher at a high school in Texas so using that as an excuse is utterly disgusting, because my HS students don't! So just don't!

Camille L.

Yelp
OMGGGG! Run, don't walk, to get your good Cajun comfort food!!! A Perfect 7 all the way around. Food: Mississippi Catfish and Red Beans and Rice - Brussel Sprouts - Crab Fries Rice - Oysters Rockerfella Drinks: Cajun Old Fashion and Blueberry Lemon Drop Desserts: Beignet and Peach Cobbler

Devin G.

Yelp
The food was SUPERB! They have the best customer service of all establishments I've been to. The ambiance is very chill.

Lindsay S.

Yelp
Highly recommend stopping by Rian's for one of their lunch specials (check hours bc they are not open for lunch every day). I had the shrimp and grits, gumbo, and tea (under $20). Portions were generous (leftover grits made a great addition to more morning eggs). The gumbo was seasoned perfectly and they were not messing around with the amount of shrimp that came with my meal. The service was prompt and friendly.

Nancy M.

Yelp
Houston, we [do NOT!] have a problem! Absolutely a GREAT spot! Had a great lunch here after visiting the Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens (something else you should check into). The catfish was done to perfection, and the Boudin sausage link was as well. The music was enjoyable and relaxing, and the place was clean and comfortable. And they know how to make a Manhattan just right. I am only sad it'll be a year until I am back in Houston and can repeat the day.

T B.

Yelp
Stopped in for dinner on the way to the airport. It was happy hour and the ambiance was pleasant. Service was fast and the food was great!

Casey B.

Yelp
Great food and the owner is an extremely nice guy. Can't wait to go back. I got raw oysters, gumbo and the owner made the best old fashioned ever.

Jeff K.

Yelp
Great find today for lunch. Got to chat with the owner, Rodney as well. Awesome guy! Food was great and service was impeccable. Can't wait come back.

Roy E.

Yelp
Wow! The roux in the gumbo is sublime and the boudin is better than most this side of Lafayette. Red fish and snapper on point, delicious oysters...and on DoorDash??

Kate H.

Yelp
I must have different tastebuds than all the other reviewers on google and yelp. Rian's comes up as five star. That wasn't really my experience. Granted we ordered to go rather than dine in, so that could have something to do with it. I didn't look at any reviews before ordering, so really had no expectations. Just hoping for a spot close to home that might have a good gumbo. We ordered the Louisiana gumbo and spinach dip. The gumbo had a decent flavor though it was very salty and a little bit too soupy. We would expect a little thicker roux and a little more flavor. The spinach and crab dip was also super salty and to me very flavorless. We didn't finish it. The food wasn't offensive but it really wasn't that great either. Doubt we'll try again. Too bad since they are in our hood.

Leondre L.

Yelp
This place is AWESOME. GREAT service and AMAZING food. If you want true Cajun food that is fool of flavor and spices, Rian's Seafood Grill is the place to be, especially if you get homesick and miss Louisiana. Oh yeah the music is on point as well. This place definitely is a place to add to your list of restaurants.

Johnathan W.

Yelp
Everything was good, but could be so much better - still just working out the kinks hopefully. Put drink prices on the menu - nothing annoys me more than this. Actually, asking for a tip on an iPad shoved in my face is a close second. Serve boudin with crackers and hot sauce standard. Not enough sauce on fish either - dishes were good, but we both felt like last quarter was dry without the sauce. Drink prices are absurd. Bartender was awesome. Four stars because I hope it gets better - three stars if I didn't care.

Jannah U.

Yelp
Let me start by saying this place is a HIDDEN GEM! Must I add, black owned!!! I found this place casually scrolling on yelp, and we stopped by because we live in the neighborhood. Everything lived up to the reviews, From the service to the food. Our waitress Lizzie was so attentive & suggested great recommendations! We started with the Spinach & Crab which was really good I would rate 9/10 only because i like my spinach dip a little creamier. For dinner we order the Gumbo (Bowl) 10/10, fried shrimp 10/10 & lastly the "award winning" Fresh Mississippi Catfish Platter with their sauce 1000/10. I love seafood and I must say this is my new spot. Finished off with dessert with the lemon pound cake .. & it literally reminded me of my Grandmas cake!! Literally! Everything was HOT & fresh!! We got sidecars to drink & they were stronggg (as they should) overall, everything was nothing short of Amazing, I will definitely be back! And to the owner, he was so nice and ensured we were enjoying everything. Rian's is a new staple in Houston, you will not be disappointed !!!

Lindsay N.

Yelp
We went here for their happy hour and it was amazing. The staff were so friendly and the food so much flavor. The bang bang shrimp are something not to miss and their Cajun old fashion. Definitely should try this spot out if you're looking for some great food and drinks.

Tenika L.

Yelp
The food and service is amazing. My son ordered the oysters and now every week he wants to go back. The bartender make the BEST old fashions. You need to try this place!!

Terrance L.

Yelp
The food is phenomenal! Literally everything we had was 10/10. I definitely recommend if you like southern seafood.

D S.

Yelp
Visiting from Chicago found this spot. Great food and great service! The owner is very personable. Definitely recommend!

Kevin S.

Yelp
Great little place with a great soundtrack. For drinks, I had a great sidecar and old fashioned. For dinner, I had the red snapper with the asparagus. The fish was well seasoned and yummy. I had the bread pudding with ice cream for dessert and it was fabulous! Service was great and I will be back.

Charles G.

Yelp
Genuinely enjoyed all the food we had. (chicken & sausage gumbo, spinach & crab dip, redfish with pontchartrain sauce, crab fried rice, brussel sprouts, fried shrimp & fries) I would gladly order any of those items again and look forward to trying some new things on the next visit. Great addition to the Rice Military area!!

David P.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our first visit to this new neighborhood spot. Drinks, catfish, crab fried rice, and Brussels Sprouts were all on point and the service was friendly and attentive. Recommend and will definitely be going back.

Tan N.

Yelp
Great gumbo, fish fried to perfection, and the Zydeco sets the ambiance!! I will be back!!

Jane I.

Yelp
We had a beautiful dinner at Rian's this past weekend. We were looking for a seafood restaurant in the Heights neighborhood and were delighted to discover this one. The four of us ordered a variety of cocktails, wine, and beer as well as a single appetizer - the crab and spinach dip which proved to be large enough for all of us. Our entrees included two of the fresh catch items, the fried catfish platter, and the shrimp and grits. Everything was served hot and delicious. The service was polite and attentive with suggestions for drinks, entrees, and sides. We appreciated the manager coming to our table to chat about the restaurant and our experience. We're happy to put Rian's on our regular restaurant rotation.

Dan P.

Yelp
A client a I had lunch at Rian's today. Delicious gumbo and, better, the blackened redfish over sautéed spinach and Brussels sprouts. The fish was excellent. The waiter was very attentive

Scott C.

Yelp
Third time I've eaten here. This is a great place to grab some solid well done Cajun classics. Service is great in a laid back but very attentive. Drinks are well done also

Jerry M.

Yelp
Phenomenal, and it's walking distance! Been to many of the great places from New Orleans to Houston and this place is top notch!! Highly recommend!! Are definite go-to place. Best Oyster Rockefeller ever!

Jen K.

Yelp
Great food, incredible service by friendly staff and tasty cocktails. They have happy hour 4-7, even on weekends which is awesome. PoBoy, shrimp & grits, Brussels sprouts and crab dip were all excellent. We will definitely be back to work our way thru the menu!

AJ G.

Yelp
Food was great! We had the red fish, shrimp and grits, fried Mississippi catfish, and grilled shrimp for the mains, and Brussels sprouts (10/10), smashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, crab dip, and the crawfish rice. Everything was a hit! The service and leadership was outstanding! GO! It's quiet and perfect for a lowkey date! Did I say go already lol. This place is awesome m

De'Avione M.

Yelp
I had the Cajun wings with fries and it was great! I was able to sample fried rice and Cajun pasta and everything was so flavored! The servers were so nice as well. Will definitely be back.

Tisha W.

Yelp
Food was delish...crab fried rice had fresh spinach mixed in which I loved. Salmon cooked just the way I like it! Food was served hot! Rodney welcomed us in... offered us bar vs table and made us feel at home. The hurricanr was on point as well. I will be back...check them out!
