We fell in love with this beautiful, intimate inn, ideally located in an historic mansion on Beaufort's waterfront, a stone's throw from downtown. The staff is lovely and accommodating beyond the call of duty. It was a joy to make reservations- the woman with whom I spoke was very patient and spent quite a long time talking me through all the room options and helping me decide which to choose. When we arrived, the inn wasn't full, so we were offered a choice of rooms and ended up taking a different room than I'd originally booked. This is just the kind of extra special service that makes an inn truly memorable. (Also, they provide free parking passes to park on the street next to the inn, which is super convenient.)
Our room, waterfront on the third floor, was lovely - cozy with beautiful views and lots of light. The bed linens are deliciously soft, and the water pressure in the shower is strong - two big tests for us. We also loved the evening delivery of a carafe of lemon water and plate of cookies.
As lovely as our room was, the highlight of this place has to be its porches. There are three porches, one on each floor. We spent our first evening on the second floor porch, which fits my image of the quintessential Southern porch to a tee, and watched the sun set with drinks from the Honest John bar. The well-stocked Honest John bar on the third floor is another huge selling point for us. We loved being able to mix our own drinks and hang out for a few hours on the porch.
Beaufort itself is wonderful and eminently walkable. It has a lively downtown, and we enjoyed wandering the historic blocks during the day, meandering to dinner at the Saltus River Grill (so delicious we went twice!) both nights, and hanging out in a swing in the waterfront park after dinner.
