Yelp
A friend and I decided to venture and in order to find our next favourite restaurant. A quick look Yelp's 'Hot and New' led us straight to 'Ribs & Burgers' in Wooloongabba. Found in a great location directly across the road from the Gabba on Stanly St, with free parking!
Upon our first glance at the menu, it felt like my fathers personal heaven, ribs, burgers, chips, thick shakes and more! I was quite mesmerised in the menu and the layout was clear, concise and drool-worthy.
The layout of the restaurant reminds me of a sleek modern take on an older American diner, with comfy booths and indoor, as well as outdoor laneway seating. The marble and woodwork would have you thinking you had just entered a glamorous eatery, however the atmosphere suggests a casual, fun loving theme, with no need for formal attire. The wait staff are hospitable, kind and smiley people, that add character to the restaurant. The staff communicate and bounce off one another like family which only allowed us to settle in easier.
Now if you are reading this, you're most likely reading for the review of the FOOD! So here we are..
We ordered 'The Bacon + Cheese' burger, (Beef patty, bacon, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles with BBQ & Aunty Joan's pink sauce) ($14.5), the 'Pork St Louis' ribs in half size (comes with chips or salas) (we chose chips duh) ($19), the 'Halloumi Cheese' (Halloumi cheese, cherry tomato, mint, parsley and olive oil) ($12) and a 'Milo' and a 'Vanilla Malt' thick shake ($8 each). Bringing our total to $61.50........ But oh boy was it worth it!
My 'The Bacon + Cheese' burger was both visually and emotionally (seriously), the nostalgic beef patty reminded me of rissoles my dad would cook on the BBQ at home, slightly smokey and cooked through and through, and 100% delicious. The melted cheese ties in the salad and meet with the sweet and smoky BBQ and pink sauces. Overall delicious and I would definitely eat again!
The ribs were... a spiritual experience. They held every bit of sweetness from the BBQ sauce yet were smokey and cooked to perfection. The meat melted in my mouth and easily came off the bone. I would gladly come back just for these ribs. The chips that come with the ribs were absolutely delicious and crispy and full of flavour. The best part about the chips too, was that they were not one bit oily or greasy, almost like they were oven baked.
"Fall off the bone meat, juicy and completely filling despite only being a half size" - Friend
The Grilled Halloumi plate was a great side, and a hint* cut the Halloumi thinly and place the slices on your burger!
The thickshakes were so think it was like drinking ice-cream! However, as they were so thick, the gradually melted as you ate over time, and so you didn't drink it all in one go! Personally, the Milo thickshake was the best, but they both were extremely delicious.
"Best thickshake I've ever had" -Friend
The only letdown on the night was the staff did not provide a free cold drink with the half ribs which was stated on signage throughout the restaurant.
Overall the dining experience was exquisite and the atmosphere of the restaurant was fun, vibrant and suitable for date night, or even a family get together. I would highly recommend 'Ribs & Burgers' to everybody and I can tell that this isn't a quick infatuation, but a budding romance and I can't wait to return for some ribs of my own!
