A Midtown institution since the 1990s, known for egg foo young, peanut butter chicken, and fast counter service. TripAdvisor notes its roots with founder Tak Chu and its place in Omaha’s Chinese-American dining history.

My favorite Chinese spot in the city. The food never misses and it's always hot. My daughter and i love to dine in. Its a small dining area but they make the most of it. Always clean and ready for dining. If you love peanut butter chicken, this is your spot othere places put whole peanuts in the sauce which is crazy but this is a smooth saucethat complimentsthe crispy chicken. Best in the O for a long time!!!

Google
Y'all, when I say I was heartbroken when King Fong's closed because the egg foo young was my favorite thing. The Rice Bowl instantly mended me. Lol! The egg foo young portions are big, big and I loved that it's a meal option and not only as a side or additional item. The daily lunch specials are excellent value and also delicious. The crew working the room was so friendly and attentive and helpful. Only 4 stars because I need to try a few other options. 😋

Haven’t been here since I was kid. Still just as good if not even better! The food was hot and fresh. And so delicious. The staff were so so friendly and helpful. Will be going back again and again

Google
Rice Bowl is the Chinese restaurant you’ve been looking for—pure savory comfort on a plate. The familiar favorites and excellent daily specials are all made fresh and each is extra flavorful. Locally owned and operated, you can feel great about supporting a homegrown multi-generational family business. After returning to the Omaha area, this was one of our first stops back. The peanut butter chicken is sure to please the pickiest of eaters but I have enjoyed everything I’ve ordered. Generous portions, great prices. Why are you still reading this?! Get to Rice Bowl and help them celebrate another 30 years in Omaha.

Google
Quite enjoyable! I had beef, green pepper, and onion with fried rice and wife had her usual sweet n sour chicken. She absolutely LOVED the sauce; said it was kind of on the thicker side and she liked it that way. We'll be going back. She picked it up after work and said service was good too!

Google
Fantastic wonton soup! They certainly didn't skip on the wontons, which I appreciated! I tried the imperial chicken (I opted out of the spicy as I wasn't in the mood for spicy today) and it was delicious 😋 the white meat chicken was juicy and the sauce was flavorful- plus the baby corn, broccoli and water chestnuts were all crisp! Also got an order of the fried dumplings and they complimented the chicken perfectly! Would definitely recommend this restaurant as a chinese food option for anyone looking!

Google
Our experience was great! We grew up going to this restaurant, but had not gone in a really long time. We finally got a chance to go back tonight and we're so happy we did. The food was tasty, the service and all of the employees were very kind and it was a good overall experience. Will definitely go back!

Google
We enjoyed the service and most of the food. Most food was tasty, but some (orange beef) wasn't as good. The employees were very friendly. They also have gluten-free options.

Yelp
WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW! The BEST Chinese food in Omaha! The chicken is always done perfectly no matter what dish you get! We always get the veggie deluxe with chicken and brown sauce! ITS SO GOOD I COULD EAT IT EVERY DAY! The people who work there are so kind, always. Their service is just amazing! They always have a refill or are making sure everything is going well. The ambiance is very laid back and causal, nothing fancy but you don't need to be fancy when you're going to eat your weight in their crab Rangoon's! I could eat a whole order (and have) alone. The sweet and sour was a new one for me, it's a generous portion and I had more than enough for leftovers the next day!! I cannot recommend them enough, I LOVE RICE BOWL!

Yelp
OMG ! First time here and Emily was perhaps the most delightful person I have ever encountered in a restaurant. The entire staff seemed to be extremely engaged with the people coming in to get food. I would give the staff 10 stars if I could . I haven't even eaten my main course yet and already blown away by the steamed dumplings.

Yelp
An Omaha institution... I dined in for the first time and was surprised by how great the service was. The teens working were very kind and attentive. Food is fried, salty, and sweet. It's made super fresh to order. It's a bit expensive but the portions are out of control. I really need to eat here more often.

Yelp
Popped in for take out and decided to dine in. Friendly counter service, clean and cute. But best of all is the food is hot, fresh and delicious. Don't know what to expect and at every stage I was very impressed. I will be back soon

Austin G.

Yelp
You get exactly what you expect from takeout Chinese, but they execute on their staples almost perfectly.

Yelp
I'm about four months late with this review, but my notifications asked me if I'd been to Rice Bowl. Yes. Yes, I have...and my memory is crystal clear. Picture this: fresh off a whirlwind trip to celebrate my daughter's 21st in Vegas, I came home not with memories of glitz and glamour, but with an unwanted souvenir--COVID. I was stuck in quarantine, and nothing sounded good. Enter Rice Bowl, my unexpected knight in Styrofoam armor. My late uncle had always raved about this place, so in my haze of tissues, cough drops, and DoorDash tracking, I took the plunge. I ordered a soup trifecta: Hot and Sour, Egg Drop, and Wonton soup. Could they deliver the comfort I desperately needed? The stakes were high. When the bag arrived, I made a mad dash for the door and cracked open the first container: Wonton Soup. Normally, this one's not my favorite, but Rice Bowl pulled through with tender wontons swimming in a flavorful broth. A solid start. Next up, Egg Drop Soup. One peek inside and I could tell we had a winner. That thick, silky broth with its perfectly swirled egg? It was a throat-soothing dream. Rice Bowl, you're two for two--keep it coming. And then, the star of the show: Hot and Sour Soup. The lid came off, and the steam carried a glorious aroma straight to my stuffed-up nose. This was the real deal--spicy, tangy, and packed with mushrooms, tofu, and a whole lot of love. It was chef's kiss perfection, and for a moment, I forgot I was sick. I didn't have the energy to try anything else on the menu that day, and a cruel twist of COVID robbed me of my taste not long after. But I'll always remember those soups--they didn't just nourish me; they brought a little joy back into my quarantined world. Rice Bowl, you've earned a permanent spot in my soup-loving heart. Whether you're battling a cold, a craving, or just life itself, this place is a must-try.

Yelp
This is a hot little joint for sure. They probably are the most friendly people for a fast food place. Menu is pretty simple and honestly was a bit hesitant and to my dismay. I have to say, I will go again as you can see by the pictures. They do a great job and presentation. The Mongolian beef was good was hoping for a bit more of the entree. Yum Yum chicken which I've never had before could be a new favorite. I'm never one to try chicken wings at a Chinese restaurant but they were ok.

Yelp
This restaurant is celebrating its 30th Anniversary and it's no wonder how they've been here this long. Their staff is AMAZING!!!! I've never seen a single one in a bad mood, or upset. Smiles for everyone lucky enough to come into this establishment! The food....the food is also top-notch. I always get the same thing.....Sesame Chicken. Huge helping of white meat Sesame Chicken, 1/2 fried rice, and 1/2 white rice. I can't have the Rangoons because they have chives in them and I am allergic....but hubby scarfs them down! They run a daily special, and they have a rewards program that is generous too! We drive from the Bluffs to come and see them often! Keep up the great work everyone!

Yelp
I got take out from Rice Bowl the other night and I thought it was exactly what I wanted - quick and delicious. I wasn't seeking anything fancy, but the delivery was prompt and the Yum Yum Chicken was quite good. I'd certainly recommend this for Chinese take out in the future.
google avatar

Olyvia K.

Yelp
I really loved the crab rangoon and the chicken wings. My boyfriend really liked the chicken low mein that he got X Spicy. I thought my combo fried rice was a bit dry and bland. Overall, the chicken wings were amazing and crab rangoon was tasty.

Kathryn B.

Yelp
Love the pepper beef! Tried peanut butter chicken today and it was good too ! Always consistent
google avatar

Yelp
I've been in Omaha for 6 years and this is by far the best Chinese food in town! My husband and I love rice bowl. The food is incredible, reasonable prices, large portions and always the friendliest staff. The parking lot isn't great, but it's ALWAYS worth it. Hands down best dumplings as well!
google avatar

Roger W.

Yelp
I didn't take any photos!!! I'm from California but my partners family lives here in Omaha. Dad brought us here and man ohh man I ate it all up and forgot the photos!!! Next time!! Great folks indeed.

Charlene

Yelp
This is the worst Chinese restaurant. They use breaded fried chicken for their cashew chicken... I've never had cashew chicken made with breaded chicken.. Don't waste your money

Desiree R.

Yelp
The staff and management here are absolutely AMAZING! We stopped in last minute to cater for our staff and they went above and beyond to help us pick the right items and had everything together very quickly. The customer service was just amazing. This was our first time eating there and because of the staff and the delicious food we will definitely be back.

Yelp
Ok. To start with, I take my college students to Rice Bowl on at least a monthly basis. It is usually quite good, and the service is friendly and quick. Today was a take out order, so I didn't directly interact with the staff much. Green bean beef is my go to order and it was the daily special. We got home and when I opened my to go box, the usual aroma was missing. Then when I tried the food, it tasted like... nothing plus a little soap. I'm not sure if they forgot the sauce but it was a disappointment. Since we were already home there was no way to get the order fixed. For $12 I have higher expectations.

Yelp
Very impressed. Great food, reasonable prices, generous portions and friendly staff. This will be on my list of places to try in Omaha
google avatar

Julisa W.

Yelp
Rice bowl is usually a spot I would go to when threes happiness was closed. The rice noodles are pretty good but the peanut butter chicken is thicc and not my style. Food usually comes pretty quick and the restaurant itself is kind of a hole in the wall. Could be better, could be worse.
google avatar

Ashlyn S.

Yelp
Their food is amazing , peanut butter chicken is my houses favorite! Peanut butter sauce is like no other! Quick service, food will be ready 15 min tops! I usually do take out and don't sit in to get the full ambiance of the restaurant , but seems like a cozy place to sit!

Yelp
Another work lunch in the books at a new location. This does not disappoint either. I grabbed the Mongolian beef and rice (lunch portion) and walked out stuffed. We did not have to wait to be seated, but by the time we left there was a line. We received our food quickly, and it was hot/cooked fresh. Delicious by far and plan to bring my family next time.
google avatar

Jerome B.

Yelp
Not fancy at all, but great food served up fast and delicious. I've eaten here regularly for probably 20 years. Best Egg Foo Yung around!
google avatar

Tozh L.

Yelp
Best crab Rangoons hands down!!! I usually get combo fried rice with extra onion or beef and broccoli. This place is definitely in my top 5 for Asian food! 8/10 recommend!! Be sure to ask for you food to be freshly made sometimes Rangoons and egg rolls are already made reason why I gave a 8/10

Mike P.

Yelp
Love this place. Been coming here for many years. Food is good and consistent. Reasonable prices. Friendly service. Ambience? It's in an old doughnut shop so not like the much missed King Fongs but clean and airy. Really enjoy veggie egg foo young, Mongolian beef, kung Pao chicken and hot and sour soup.

Kevin T.

Yelp
Fuck this place I waited for close to an hour for one entree while dozens of people came in after me to pick up orders.
google avatar

David W.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised with the experience. Generals Tsao chicken was the best entree, rate that a 5. Mongolian beef was a 3 and the fried appetizers were a 2.
google avatar

Angie G.

Yelp
Carryout was wonderful, as usual. Appreciate their consistency as well as speed in preparing the order.
google avatar

Simon G.

Yelp
Our go-to spot for Chinese take-out. Always fast and consistent. I normally go for the Sesame chicken, unless I'm feeling something spicier, then I'll go for the Yum yum. The "spicy" option means you'll get some extra hot peppers mixed in, so be wary!

Cameron B.

Yelp
Asked the girl at the front desk"What's good?" She told me "I like the peanut butter chicken" I said "okay, i'll have that" I'm losing my fuckin mind, man, this is the most delicious thing i've ever eaten, I really gotta tip that girl next time I go cuz she KILLED it with the recco. ATT that's the only thing i've had from this place. It might be the only thing I ever eat again.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a pretty average affordable Chinese restaurant. All the takeout classics with a humbly sized dining room should you choose to stay. I got the yum yum chicken, which tasted exactly like, well, yum yum chicken. Again, pretty much just up to the general standard you come to expect from Chinese takeout, and I mean that as a compliment. I do love that each meal comes with 2 crab rangoon & the prices are very affordable for the serving portions & quality. As an avid crab rangoon enjoyer, I was impressed; they had a lot of filling with a nice creamy texture & the wontons were perfectly crispy. I'd been craving crab rangoon all day (as I often do) so this particularly hit the spot. The texture of the rice was a little mushy for fried rice. Service inside was good. Essentially this is just a very standard & predictable Chinese takeout joint, which is always a great thing to have in your neighborhood!

Sara M.

Yelp
The food was really good but very greasy, in fact the bag with the food was so sticky from all the grease. Also they charged us for a soda and did not give it to us so we have to hassle to try and get a refund. We ordered mongolian beef and rice and the portion sizes were great.

Yelp
I wanted Chinese yesterday and one place we go is just too expensive and the wait time is ridiculous - the other more affordable place has just disappointed a lot recently and been out of may things. So I remembered the Rice Bowl - I used to eat their weekly but realized that I think it's been over 10-15 years since I have. Well I have a new favorite again - we had Orange Chicken - which I have to admit I only tasted and it was amazing, the smell of citrus is crazy good - the one mistake we made was not checking that peppers could be left out - didn't know they came in them and the person who ordered them cannot handle them at all. The shrimp fried rice was some of the best I have every seen and the sesame chicken was amazing. My family loves crab rangoon and that is why they have other favorite places, however, tonight they mentioned that these were amazing as well. We have a new easy to get to, ready fast Chinese place to go. Thank you Rice Bowl!

Yelp
This has failed health inspections. They have serious issues with bugs and dirt and grease...I could go on but I'm getting sick just thinking of it. How they're still open is beyond me. Well, the msg is probably why. Their food was good when I used to go. Then when they made the local news many years ago for all the wrong reasons, and I started to honestly think about all my visits there, I realized if it was that dirty up front where customers are, you know the kitchen is far worse. Plenty of other restaurants in town.

Jerome H.

Yelp
The service was great, the prices are good and our food was good as well. The restaurant was packed and we were fortunate to get a table at lunch.
google avatar

Yelp
This is the first time I'm trying this place. I ordered by phone for pick up since we can't eat in restaurants. I live about 20 minutes away and the girl on the phone seemed very rushed. At the end of the call she said 10-15 minutes. Thank you. Bye. I didn't even get a chance to tell her I live 20 minutes away before she abruptly hung up. We'll see if the food is fresh when I get there. The food was ready when I got there. I wonder how long it had been sitting. The peanut butter chicken doesn't even taste like peanut butter. It's disappointing. The general tsao's chicken is okay. No spicy kick that they normally have. The beef fried rice also lacked any flavor. The crab Rangoon's are good. We probably won't be back. Mediocre food. You're better off going to either House of Lee or Ling's.

Lisa C.

Yelp
Unfortunately this is one of my least liked Chinese anywhere. I didn't like anything. I got the appetizer sampler, egg drop soup, chicken lomein and side of fried rice. Would have done better going to Panda Express.

Ryan W.

Yelp
Rice bowl is always a solid option for quick and delicious Chinese food in Omaha. My favorite go to is the generals chicken and our kids love the chicken fried rice. The portions are always enough to have leftovers for the next day which I appreciate.
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
I am a big fan of this place. Is it the best Chinese food I've ever had? Absolutely not. But is it the cheapest? Yes. It's fast and cheap and okay food. The staff is nice and the portions are big!
google avatar

Nancy F.

Yelp
BE WARNED. ALL PRICE RAISED $3 across the board, "while the College World Series is here." $12 more to eat here tonight, 6/23. Will it come back down?
google avatar

Eric P.

Yelp
Very tasty Chinese food at a reasonable price. Nothing too special but they won't let you down. Table service or takeout.

Kara M.

Yelp
I had been working out of town for awhile and missing my Rice Bowl, so glad I rushed in today and saw Emily is back!! Everyone is so sweet there but she is the best and we missed her! I have been going here since I went to school at UNO years ago, it is a local treasure, best Chinese in town and with the best service.
google avatar

Amber P.

Yelp
Delicious! We ordered for take out. The food was ready within 10 minutes and everything was correct. This restaurant is a staple of the Omaha area, so I was happy I was able to try it. Lots of great options on the menu, and I highly recommend the Yum Yum Chicken!!!

Marty S.

Yelp
I have been going here since late 90s. Food I always great and fast. Everything I've tried I have liked. I drive from CB

Connor G.

Yelp
Food was delicious, service was amazing. Loved rice bowl and will definitely be back!
google avatar

Teka B.

Yelp
Not a fan. I'm not sure what I expected tho. When you have rice in the name of your establishment, I did expect that to be good. It was cold and stale. It was supposed to be fried rice, it seemed more like brown rice with over cooked eggs. Yikes. I did like the egg roll and crab Rangoon, both hot and fresh. Other than that...it was just meh.

Beedo P.

Yelp
The steak fried rice was huge and delicious. Service was amazing. Great pricing. One of the best places to eat in Omaha for cheap!

A G.

Yelp
TRASH ,waisted $32 they gave us barely any sauce like they just threw it all together for no reason it wasn't even busy. then when I call they block me and my girl number had to call 10 times on private just to get a reply
google avatar

Tutti S.

Yelp
I went for a return visit and what a disappointment. Not fresh and meat was flavorless, beyond bland and bordering on tasting spoiled. The sauces tasted like they were jared and today they seemed a bit watered down. I guess I have to keep looking for consistently good combo fried rice elsewhere.
google avatar

Marc C.

Yelp
As with many local Chinese joints, the most unsuspecting are often the best. My memories for this place go back to my childhood and, with few exceptions, the experience remains largely unchanged. To begin, the speed of service is unmatched. The food comes out in minutes and is always hot and steaming. They offer two specials (at a low price) that change daily and come with soup in addition to crab rangoon, rice, and your entree. While no two hot and sour soups are the same, I absolutely die for theirs. Although it seems to be polarizing, my personal favorite is the peanut butter chicken. I also recommend the Yum Yum Chicken, Mapo tofu, and Mongolian beef. It may take some exploring to find your go-to dish, but it's definitely a spot worth trying!

Yelp
Every time I come to Rice Bowl I always leave super full and super happy. I try everyone else's "best Chinese" in town but they can't top this. I'd like to keep this restaurant to myself if I could, but that's just not fair to the general public now is it? Great portion sizes, super tasty and relatively quick!
