"Hell has frozen over, pigs are flying, and we’re telling you not to order pão de queijo. While we’re at it, you should also skip the calabresa and stroganoff at this seven-table spot in Hell’s Kitchen. You’ll find better examples of those dishes at most of the places on this guide, but what you won’t find is feijoada like the version here. The five types of meat - bacon, sausage, pork ribs, pork shoulder, and carne seca - give off so much flavor that even just the stew-soaked rice seems engineered to provide a full churrasco experience in every bite." - Matt Tervooren

Okay, so. I work around the corner from this place. I order here maybe 1-2 times a week, every other week. I really enjoy it. My favorite is the burrito bowl in a fried tortilla bowl. I always order the spicy green sauce which comes in 4oz. I love that because I hate being skimped on sauce. Its by far the best sauce they have there. The ingredients are always fresh. The salad is neve wilted and always crispy. When I ask for double sauce, extra sour cream or extra salsa-- my order is always right and followed through on. Another thing I appreciate. Its ready fast as hell and always packaged with care. To go sauces wrapped in plastic to avoid spilling. The tortilla bowl crispy and not over saturated in oil. Plantains are great. Hot and sweet. I like the guy who serves too. Polite, quiet white dude. Never an issue at this location and I tell all my local friends and coworkers about it. Thanks for your time and hard work, this nurse truly appreciates being able to get a tasty and flavorful meal so close to her job. xo

Google
Not your typical Spanish restaurant if that’s what you’re thinking. Not a usual display of food behind a glass but no biggie. Fairly priced and good portions. Flavor wise it’s good overall not quite to standard from your typical Spanish place. Atmosphere is a little lacking and there’s not really any room to dine in but overall good experience.

Google
I stopped by for a quick lunch and ordered the chicken and cheese empanadas. They were made fresh to order! It was exactly what I needed as a quick pick me up comfort food craving! The empanadas were delicious, warm and flavorful! I enjoyed the spicy sauce paired with them as well.

Nice little place in Nazareth, PA. I visited Martin Guitar factory, then a quick lunch at this place. Portion is big and tasty. Must visit if you’d like a quick lunch around Nazareth.

Google
I’m not normally in the Nazareth area but I was today. Was hungry after having some coffee next door and saw rice and beans before hitting the road. Stopped in and got a burrito. Very friendly and welcoming when I walked in. Burrito was made fresh on the spot and it was delicious. Enjoyed it very much. Will definitely stop back in when I come back to the area.

Google
I am sorry to say that these tacos were the worst i have ever eaten. Completely flavorless. I should have went to Taco Bell.

Joseph Wilson

Google
The burrito was huge, but didn't taste great. The person working was super cool though.

Google
I really don’t write reviews, but here goes. Second time eating here. First time was a few years ago (delicious) second time was this past Friday night. The gentleman there was friendly, but the food was absolutely horrible to be so overpriced. I asked for stewed chicken, rice&beans. Well my chicken was shredded and placed on top of my rice&beans.( it looked like cat food) It had absolutely no flavor and was so damn dry. Same for the beans. I spent $50 on the worst meal ever. Never again!

Michelle T.

Yelp
I go there every few weeks and their food is amazing. I get the Super Nachos almost every time because it's so good.

Mercedalia R.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place for awhile, and it was disappointing. The tacos were on a super thin, the tortilla would break apart when I picked it up. I ordered the pulled pork tacos, and their was a side of lard in the corner! yuck. The only decent item on the menu was the empanadas, but im sure their just bought in bulk and fried tho. Don't recommend. If you're looking for good & authentic tacos in the area go to taqueria la plaza in easton.

Yelp
I had a catering order for my husband's birthday party...I had to call them, they forgot my catering order...at least the food was edible. I called and left a message for Marco... No call back from Marco....nothing. I don't suggest using them ever for catering.

Yelp
Great service today!!! Food was delicious. Zuhail is an outstanding manager at the restaurant. She is awesome and a very attentive. She does an extraordinary job. We will continue to go back to Rice-n-Beans.

Samirah J.

Yelp
Food was very greasy and bland no taste at all !!! Large portion was good but it was not tasty at all !

Tracy J.

Yelp
Good was delicious! We ordered the beer and cheese and chicken and cheese empanadas and they were loaded with meat! The chicken and steak burritos were excellent as was the chicken Chimichanga. We loved the jalapeño sauce! Will definitely order again soon!

Alex A.

Yelp
I was excited to see that this restaurant is offering vegan options, so I took a shot in the dark and ordered the vegan burrito. The choices of filling were.. bewildering to say the least. Water chestnuts, carrots, green beans?? Seemed like they threw together a bag of frozen mixed vegetables with some rice and called it a day. Disappointing.

Savannah R.

Yelp
Reasonable prices and delicious food. Service is quick and staff are friendly. Have been here twice now!

Stephanie I.

Yelp
Bad customer service! Manager refused to apply discount to order on Wacky Wednesday. When asked to provide a replacement item in the amount of the discount the manager refused! He preferred to cancel the order. Why not just give me a soda or an item of equal value? SMH. Bad business practices.

Donna L.

Yelp
I don't know what these bad reviews are taking about this food is definitely good. It's definitely not bland and definitely different than most dishes with rice and bean I've had. Even the vegetables taste good and no one ever likes vegetables. This food is freaking good don't listen to these bad reviews they are just being critical and are probably people with boring lives or have a lot of hate and spite in their life.

Scott R.

Yelp
I would have given no stars but its not an option. Ordered a beef taco salad which was extremely salty. Beef empanadas were greasy and salty as well. Order there rice got beans with it which i did not want very bland no flavor .i bought flan to but im afraid to eat it. Food is truly disgusting

Patricia N.

Yelp
We had this Entertainment coupon for $8 off any item with purchase of $8 but we were told we had to order the large bowl for $10.95 and although we are not huge fans of Latin food but surprisingly the bowl had good taste, freshness, nice red beans, moist meat, and all the ingredients in this plastic bowl. Place was recommended by a friend and located right off upper Broad st and the meter maid opened the door to the restaurant and asked if anyone owns this grey car and she didn't even ticket me but allowed me to feed the meter. Thanks for that! Anyhow it totaled $15 (after coupon) for two large bowls and would go back and try something different and more authentic to Latin flavors!

P C.

Yelp
after having picked up dinner there, both my son & myself started off the morning after with stomach cramps and diarrhea which lasted the entire day & evening. This will be the last time ever giving this place any business -had to cancel on plans for the evening since I was feeling awful

Marie W.

Yelp
I had like 10 minutes to get easy to handle food for me, my husband and 4 big hungry movers and a $40 budget and this place made it happen. I got 6 orders of empanadas and soda for everyone. The food took 5 minutes to be made and was delicious.

Gino I.

Yelp
Always fresh and authentic and on-time delivery! Haven't had a bad meal yet. My wife loves the beef nachos my daughter loves the cheese quesadillas and beef tacos , she is 4 years old and says hey Daddy I want doorbell food and that means Rice & Beans

Christopher P.

Yelp
I really like their food here. It's different and authentic. They also have free delivery. I had the port and rice dinner and it was pretty good. I have not had a chance to try anything else from here. One thing that I really did not like was they charged me $1 for hot sauce. hmmm... I had already paid almost $30 for to go food. It's like charging for ketchup. Parking is metered but you get an hour for like 10 cents. I would recommend you try out this place but carefull of extra charges. UPDATE : 6/2/2014 Owner was a bit rude when I asked a simple question about an item. He told me it was on the menu and go look at it like I was an idiot. I just spent $40+. It may be the last time I come here for a while or ever. I like supporting local establishments but he will lose customers real quick if he cannot figure out how to treat customers with respect.

Yelp
Yea...I'm going to give this 5 starts. There are several Spanish food restaurants in Bethlehem, South Bethlehem, Allentown, etc. The fact that this is in Nazareth kind of surprises me, but I think it is a welcome addition (I'm not sure there is much of a Latin influence in Nazareth, but I could be wrong). This is also one of the ones that I've been to in the LV where it seems they are looking for more than just neighborhood /foot traffic business. Its really trying to branch out as a restaurant should (they will deliver). We've gone two times, and the rice and beans is very good, Pastallios, Pernil Sandwich, Taco Salad, nachos, Cubano sandwich....everything was, and home made (from chips to pork). The flan was very good too. Prices are very reasonable, and the portions are fair for sure. If I had to be pinned down to get something that I really liked, I was surprised how much I liked the Pernil. You'd think slow roasted pork is pretty straight forward, but this was mild and I could taste the pork....not overseasoned at all. Try the Pernil Sandwich...it's like $6. Also, I LOVE this green sauce they have (think of like a spicy mayo). It's not really green, more white...just FYI...and the pretty much serve it with everything. It is very clean, and there are only like 7 tables to eat at...but you could also just get take out. I'd give it a shot for sure if you never had Latin / Spanish food. It's a safe bet that you can find something you like (they do have some american pallate offerings too)

Kyle A.

Yelp
I'll start off with the service. I would assume a husband and wife run business. It was late when I picked up our order so I could imagine they were a little run down but not extremely friendly at all. It's really hard to describe, it's like they were just there. Not really friendly but not mean either. Now into the food. I LOVE burritos and frequent Chipotle often. The chicken burrito I order didn't even begin to compare to Chipotle. The rice & chicken were alright but that's all it seemed to be in the burrito. They could really kick it up by adding some pico, guac, cheese, and corn. The size of the burrito was also very disappointing. I would really love to see how it would be if they added them items, I think it would completely turn the burrito around. This place is worth a try if you love in the area and just want something different from the normal pizza and Chinese joint but don't expect a mind blowing meal.

Allycia S.

Yelp
Just ordered here for the first time tonight and thought the food was delicious! As someone who absolutely loves all Spanish food I was definitely happy to have tried this and to have it close to home!

Countess C.

Yelp
Nice place ....good food.... burritos are great and they have a nice selection for a little restaurant.

Ming M.

Yelp
This a spanish-wanna be. They have no identity, is it mexican, puerto rican? no clue. food is bland, lacks real spanish seasoning.

Melissa A.

Yelp
I really want to support the local guy, but just can't with this place. I first tried Rice and Beans a few years ago and was not very impressed. Since it is minutes from my parents house, I decided to give it another try. My taco salad was incredibly greasy from the shell, so much that the outside of the takeout container was covered in grease. The flavor was mediocre and the size was just ok for the price. My husband said his burrito bowl was also very greasy. It was the worst Mexican that we've had in a long time. There is a lot on the menu to pick from. The only plus was that I went on "Taco Tuesday" and our meals were buy one get one 50% off. I don't think we will be back.

Carl D.

Yelp
Been here several times and I think the menu is a bit smaller and more common choices than when we first visited several years ago. Good portions at a fair price. Better quality than the big chains. The quesadillas are delicious and cheesy, and the burritos are huge and delicious.

Britta B.

Yelp
So, I love this little place. The sad part is, they are not open on Sunday. Me and my Boyfriend used to go all the time when he lived in the apartment down the street. -Veggie Chili=Amazing, full of veggies! -ChimiTaco=A light burrito with a nice 'lighter' feeling -Chimichanga=Large and filling! Deep fried million calorie goodness -Chicken Pastelillos (empanadas)=A large juicy chicken wrapped in fried goodness -Chips and Gauc= Restaurant-made yummy appetizer -The platters are filling, but I would only get if you are sitting in the place Why this isn't five stars- Well you can't get a 'little' extra sauce, you have to buy a 1$ large thing of it. If you eat in you can use as much of the green sauce as you want (Which is amazing!) but if you do take out sorry. Sometimes it is amazing, other times it is just good. There is no 'bad' food here but if you do take-out the pastelillos may not be as crispy, or the chimitacos may be soggy. Just a nice little place in Nazareth. Parking stinks due to having to pay the parking meter but it is well worth it! And usually never busy! Can't wait to stop buy soon to get more good deep fried chimichangas! (just note: Beware if you are on a diet! You'll see the pastelillos or Burritos and your mouth will water!)

Sarai R.

Yelp
Honestly kind of hurt that I spent like 22 dollars here. Food had no type of love in it and coming from a Spanish background, I was definitely disappointed smh I wish I can get my money back it sucked. :(

Damaris M.

Yelp
A small place we can come to if we want to eat Caribbean food. We ordered and didn't get exactly what we asked but they fixed it and gave us an appetizer and checked on us to make sure we were ok. We will be back.

Kendra L.

Yelp
Worst service ever! If you want to wait a very long time for your food then you can order from here. The food is ok once you get it but not worth the forever long wait.

Bill R.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place but after being disappointed on multiple occasions, I just can't. As stated by several other reviewers, Rice 'n Beans has a bit of an identity crisis. The menu pulls inspiration from several Latin American cuisines, but I haven't had anything on their menu that was actually inspiring.

C. L.

Yelp
I've been twice and both times have had the beef and cheese pastelillos and yellow rice. Both very good! I will be back in the future!

G D.

Yelp
Food is OK, but service is terrible. Expect an extremely long wait if ordering take-out or delivery. If they say order will be ready in 45 min, don't even step foot in the door until at least an hour. The man cooking the food, who seems to be the owner, is extremely rude. This man himself if enough for me to never go back. Why can't Nazareth seem to get a decent Mexican/Spanish restaurant.

Roberto R.

Yelp
Finally got to try this place especially since I drove by it and there was a big Puerto Rican flag out front just finished take out meal spent $33 on 3 different platter pernill rice and beans pork chop rice and beans and pollo guisado with rice and beans ou one tolerable was the pernill and that was not good it was decent I was really let down since there no real Spanish restaurants near here I'm from NYC and they serve more Peruvian food than Puerto Rican definelty not a normal Spanish restaurant

Patty H.

Yelp
IDK if the problem was take-out but the food wasn't all that good. The beans were dry, the rice was bland, and the pork was just OK. I saw a lot of high reviews so I decided to go ahead and buy the Groupon to give it a try. I guess people around here don't have much of an expectation for Latin food. Or maybe I'm biased because I grew up in South Florida and know what real latin food should taste like. I guess I'll keep going to Bergenline in Union City to get my latin food fix.

Gavin O.

Yelp
The quality has fallen drastically at this place while the prices have increased steadily.. not a very good buisness model in my opinion. They guage you on the drinks for something like $2.50 or something. I ordered a chicken burrito but ended up with a rice and been burrito... kinda fitting I guess the place is called rice and beans. Needless me or my family won't be back.

Mandy R.

Yelp
I went here with such high hopes. I came here for dinner with my husband last night and the restaurant was FREEZING!!! Not one single person had their coat off. We waited for our food for quite a while and it wasn't until we were waiting for 20 minutes when the waitress came over and gave us some chips and salsa to eat while our food was being cooked. I ordered the steak fajita platter which was OK. Unfortunately all you tasted was the spice on the meat and not the steak itself. The rice and beans were pretty good though. My husband had a seafood platter, unfortunately in the description of the platter, they failed to mention that it was all FRIED seafood. The only way I would go back to this place is if they get heat in the restaurant, something for their customers to snack on while they wait, and a better balance of flavors.

Stephen V.

Yelp
Live right across the street so I come here pretty regularly. I like it because you get a lot of food for the price, and in my personal opinion it's pretty good. No frills, the perfect food to fill you up after or before a long day of work. The chimichangas are awesome, a huge deep fried burrito for like 9 bucks. Also the empanadas are also great, make sure to ask for extra green sauce, that stuff is super good. Food always comes out fast, and the staff/owner are always friendly.

Paul D.

Yelp
The beef tacos were totally flavorless. I don't think there was any seasoning on the meat at all.

Megan S.

Yelp
The pernil, chicken empanadas and yellow rice is fantastic!! Definitely recommend if you're in the area!!

Becky R.

Yelp
Was happy with the service and the food, yum. Definitely will be back. It's that simple

Mike O.

Yelp
Food is decent. The staff is terrible. Don't offer any substation for vegetarian diets.

Peter F.

Yelp
the food is ok but people working there sucks they are so rude and the owner has no education. Very dissapointed !!!!

T V.

Yelp
Not only is the food delicious but the service is excellent. Try their platanos. Yum!

Amy C.

Yelp
Love this place! I own a nearby business, and I order lunch takeout often. The burritos are addicting, and the staff is so friendly, always remembering my name! I highly recommend rice n beans, it's definitely a great addition to Nazareth!

Michael C.

Yelp
I can't wait for my lunch, because this place never fails me. I always leave stuffed and happy.

Chet S.

Yelp
Great place! The family has come here many times. Good place to get good Puerto Rican/Dominican food and Mexican. They also have other random dishes which are good. I love the super nachos myself. Plus free delivery! Can't beat this place in Nazareth.

Eileen Z.

Yelp
Finally a good, nonchain, ethnic food restaurant. Empanadas (pork) were excellent, served with a delicious green sauce. Tostones were delicious! Daughter loves the chicken Empanadas, but the pork is so wonderful that I can't order anything else. Even when I ordered the Chimichanga---I ordered the pork. While we usually eat in the restaurant but right before Christmas we placed an order online (so easy!) to take home-I had the Pernil platter and my husband had the Chicharrones platter (his favorite). I usually don't eat rice (don't like it) but the beans mixed with the rice was delicious and the pork was superb!! Will be ordering from Rice and Beans for upcoming graduation party.....can't wait!!!

Zachary P.

Yelp
Let me preface this comment by saying that i've had several decent experiences eating at this establishment. HOWEVER the last and final time I ate/will eat at Rice n Beans Nazareth was extremely awful due to the fact that I was essentially POISONED due to a lack of employee knowledge/awareness of food allergies. I am severely allergic to Gluten/Wheat Flour and when I called to order my usual burrito bowl I was asked by the person taking my order if I would like to try the "Gluten-Free" burrito bowl tortilla shell. I was very apprehensive about it but since I've never had a bad experience up until this point I decided to trust the employee. After waiting over an hour and 15 minutes for my delivery (less than 4 miles from the establishment) I called again before even beginning to eat my meal in order to confirm, again, that the burrito bowl tortilla shell i ordered is in fact gluten free. I was assured yet again by a different employee over the phone that the shell was absolutely gluten free. I then ate most of the mediocre meal and began my drive back to my home in NJ. Approximately 2 hours after I ate this meal from Rice n Beans (without eating anything else during this time period) I began feeling the telltale signs that i've ingested a large amount of gluten. I have been diagnosed with Celiac Disease (gluten allergy) for over 19 years and have become extremely in tune with my body and what it feels like to have an allergic reaction. Before I could even make it to my house I was forced to pull over on the side of an extremely busy highway in order to projectile vomit out the driver side door of my car. After this I began rushing towards my house that was still 15 mins away. Before I could even make it home I was again forced to pull over and vomit out of my car. By the time I made it home I was nearly unable to drive due to EXTREME gastrointestinal pain. Once I was in my house I proceeded to vomit again while suffering from the worst diarrhea imaginable. Thankfully my reaction to gluten is not life threatening otherwise I'm sure I would have died because of the severity of my reaction. Since I was certain that Rice n Beans Nazareth was the only thing I had eaten all evening and could be the only possible cause of all this trauma, I decided to call them to try and speak with the manager about what happened. As soon as I asked to speak with a manager the most rude and nasty "lady" (no lady would speak like she did) decided to berate me about why I was calling and denied everything without allowing me to speak with management. Upon hanging up, someone who I assume to be the owner or manager called my cell phone and began cursing me out as soon as I answered, calling me things that I cannot even write in this comment because of the level of vulgarity. The unprofessionalism that exists at this establishment is truly appalling and I felt the need to write this in order to tell anyone with food allergies THAT THIS RESTAURANT DOES NOT UNDERSTAND/COMPREHEND DIETARY RESTRICTIONS AND SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED TO BE POISONED. The ignorance and overall lack of respect for their customers is something that everyone should be aware of, and if you end up having problems with the food/ service you received, don't expect the owner or management/staff to care whatsoever and be prepared for them to curse you out like they did to me. This review is 100% accurate and I did not exaggerate any aspect of my experience; my only motivation for writing this is to protect others like me before someone ends up getting hurt.

Marla G.

Yelp
Excellent food and great service. The staff was pleasant, very courteous. I ordered the pork burrito and my husband ordered pernil with rice and beans. Excellent. Will definitely return. Small and cozy but authentic Hispanic cuisine.

Manda J.

Yelp
Seriously bad Mexican .. Have ordered several items and all are gross. Use cheez whiz for their nachos and quesadillas.. Carrots and wax beans are their idea of "grilled veggies".. Chimichanga is soggy and can't even get a salad right - the lettuce in their taco salad was steaming hot and inedible . Run out of chances with me hope one day they learn to cook and start using quality ingredients instead of taking cheap shortcuts.

James A.

Yelp
This is one of the best Latin inspired restaurants in the Lehigh Valley. The food is absolutely delicious not to mention affordable. The staff is friendly and the service is top notch.
