"Perched near the shores of Lake St. Clair, Rice ‘N Roll offers savory Filipino delights, like pork and chicken adobo, pork and chicken skewers, dinuguan, or pork blood stew, and menudo, a stew of sautéed pork, tomato sauce, carrots and potatoes. The restaurant currently only offers takeout." - Eleanore Catolico

Google
I've never had Filipino food, but this is a great place to try it if you haven't! Service was very friendly and helpful with suggestions. There are tables to sit but it does feel like more of a take out place. I had the pancit noodles, BBQ pork skewer and a banana roll. All were very tasty, but the banana roll was crazy good! It sounds a little weird, but a caramelized banana in a deep fried egg roll wrapper with a drizzle of syrup on top of a fantastic dessert item. Worth a visit for this alone.

Stumbled upon this place while working in the area. Stopped in and gave it a try. Besides the spring roll and the pork skewer, I wasn't really sure what I got. All I can say is it was all very delicious. They gave me a serving of the soup for free. I think I was a ginger soup and that was super tasty. The dish that came with rice kind of had a resemblance of chili or a stew, but it was really good. I believe it had Chicken in it. I would go back there again.

Google
I stopped based on reviews and I don't see how this got 5 stars. The lady was very nice. Place is small and I'm not sure there's table service. There is no menu. There's some food behind the counter that is already made and in warming trays. I tried several egg rolls and 2 chicken skewers. The plantain rolls were ok. There were some small chicken rolls that were ok. The vegetables one was not ok. The chicken skewers were obviously cooked long ago. I think if the food was cooked to order it might be better. 35.00 made this a pricey experiment.

Never again will I come to this place. I got off work early to drive from ferndale to make it before 6 pm. Store hours on phone say they are open untill 7 on Thursdays. I'm from California where I've eaten some of the best home cooked lumpia, what I expected to recieved today. Wasted my time.

Google
Light balance flavor and ingredients of common comfy Filipino meals. 3 Combo serves 2. Small clean organized venue. Caters. Due to rotational menu, call if your fave is served. Or, check FB.

Google
I took my wife here on our second anniversary. We were greeted by very nice people. I believe this is a family restaurant. The owners were pleasant to talk to. The food was delicious and tasted cleaner than most Philippino restaurants. They also have an awesome little selection of Philippino groceries.

Yale Empie

Google
Exceptionally good Filipino food. Had the pork adobo and that was so savory to almost die for. Amazingly friendly staff too with good precautions during this Covid-times. Also prices are very reasonable for the amazing quality. I will absolutely be coming back again.

Google
This place is a hidden gem! I am very happy to have stumbled upon a great place that serves authentic Filipino food. Filipino food needs to gain more prominence in America, as it is such a unique food and full of amazing flavors. They do a great job here representing true Filipino food. Very happy and certainly will come back. I cannot wait to try the halo halo in the summer!!!!

Yelp
I used to pass this place all the time and my initial thought was it being a sushi place because it just made sense lol. But after doing a little research I found out it was Filipino food. I finally got a chance to stop by and try the food. I'm unsure if I was speaking to the owner at the time but when I walked in I was given a very friendly Welcomw told it was my first time and he pointed out all the desserts they had on stock. The server was very patience and helpful with helping me make a decision. I ended up getting chicken curry with garlic rice, 2 spring rolls and a coconut dessert. The chicken curry with rice was very delicious it also came with carrots and potatoes, and If im not mistaken the carrot juice gave the curry a sweet finish to it instead of spicy. I believe they used the dark pieces from the chicken. (Im a white meat gal). But The coconut dessert was very good and different. It is very coconutty and there are a few long shaving pieces inside. The spring rolls were very big and stuffed. She gave me two types of sauces to try with them and both were good one was a sweet and sour type of taste and the other one was more tangy if I had to compare it it resembled Italian dressing with more like vinegar. The place is very small and located next to smoothie king. There are a few tables inside to sit but I ordered it as takeout. 8.5/10 I will be back for that BBQ

Yelp
I can say I have been here twice in 2 weeks. The food was amazingly seasoned just added a little garlic salt to my beef dish that was so tender. The veggie roll was delicious but a little greasy. And yes I am still going to order again. The barbecue chicken on a stick was good as well. It has carrot sticks and green beens inside. Can't wait to go back.

Christal P.

Yelp
I stopped by Rice n' Roll for the first time and got to meet the sweet lady who runs this restaurant. Right now there is only curbside pickup, but I was told that the restaurant plans to allow customers inside again within a matter of weeks. This has to be the best Filipino restaurant on the east side. It is the only restaurant on the east side I know of that offers lechon kawali. My order of lechon kawali came with a generous portion of super crispy pork belly and salad with cucumbers and tomatoes. I really enjoyed this meal. It's been a challenge finding many casual restaurants that offer good roast pork or lechon. I was also given a free bowl of lemony chicken and rice soup that was delicious. I am looking forward to trying more items on the menu and seeing the restaurant when it opens up again.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place and it's soooo authentic I love eating here sooo good and I wish I could get pans of it

Dharamjit R.

Yelp
Had a craving for Filipino food and wanted to try this. Everything taste really good. Get bubble tea with taro. Hopefully next time I can try their Halo Halo.

Melissa C.

Yelp
Awesome Filipino food. So so nice. Delicious good. They have boba drinks. I don't know of anywhere else in the area that has boba. Give them a try. You'll be happy you did!

Chyna A.

Yelp
No indoor seating, so you have to get take out. There are benches outside. the food is good. Try the empanadas!

Andrew H.

Yelp
Filipino food that'll surprise you! This establishment, hands down, is my go-to place for authentic Filipino cuisine. The owners and staff strive to serve me and do that well. I absolutely love the lumpia. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed.

Jenny P.

Yelp
Overall it's a two but the service was great. They don't have a lot of options. Not even the sausage! They microwaved our food in styrofoam, why microwaving our food anyways? Food was meh. I enjoyed their fried fish though. Super crunchy. I came here mainly though to try their halo halo since my Filipino friend said it's the best halo halo he has ever tried. And I disagree with him. The beans weren't even fully cooked. Won't come back.

Papa D.

Yelp
Found a Philippine treasure @ St. Clair Shores. Serving authentic Filipino Dishes to quench one's hunger for native tastes. Bicol express, sinigang, pork satay/ barbecue, tortang talong, pancit bihon, spring rolls, pork sisig( yummy)!!! Halo-halo! Hallelujah, packed with some goodness !

Bre Y.

Yelp
I stopped in for the first time today. The woman working the counter was very friendly and sweet, she made some great suggestions about what to try! I ended up trying a combo with the BBQ pork skewer, pancit, and some little spring rolls with a sweet dipping sauce. It was all delicious! The pork was well done and the sauce tasty, the pancet was great, and the spring rolls were delicious and crunchy without being greasy. I'd definitely come back next time I'm in the area!

Jeff L.

Yelp
I have only eaten at rice and roll three or four times I'm going to be totally honest with you I have always enjoyed my meals there but I cannot tell you what I ordered because everything is written in Filipino and you have to just kind of Pointe at the stuff on the buffet table and they will put it on your plate and then I think they just charge you according to how much you have on your plate or something I did recognize one thing Lupita's they were five for $3.50 but other than that they have like some fried rice stuff pan fried noodles stuff and some fried vermicelli stuff and then I think you get scoops of different kinds of meat on top of that and I'm not even sure. Last time I was there the noodles we're sitting out for a while and the girl with the back room for like 5 minutes with them I have a feeling she threw them in the microwave I didn't hear the Bell go off but I did hear the door of a microwave close. Oh well the foods good if you're Filipino you can go in there in order in Filipino because the people in front of me we're ordering stuff but I didn't understand what they were ordering so it's a little tricky but I always eat all the food I get there and I'm going to probably go back maybe I will brush up on my Filipino before I go back. I really think the help could do a better job explaining what the food is and how much it cost that would be a huge help

Vanessa W.

Yelp
Extra Lechon Kawa onion, lettuce, & 3 unique sauces. li Sprinkle Seasoning, on the Side. I have no idea whats in it, but I'm definately going to find out how I can buy 5 lbs of the stuff! Please, try it w/the freshest cucumber, tomato,

Abbey M.

Yelp
My first time experiencing this genre of food and my 100 time driving by. So happy I finally stopped it - this was PHENOMENAL! I don't remember the name of each item I tried so bare with me... The thicker noodle side dish was mind blowing and full of FLAVOR!!! Flavor people and tons of it! I honestly could have just ate a full dish of the noodles and been content. The vegetable spring roll is large and loaded with nice size pieces of veggies - asparagus and carrots is all I can remember in this moment. BBQ pork skewer - devine! Perfect texture and tasty sauce. Next was another pork dish (I think) and it had had a zip sauce type of juice with onions. Very very yummy! I got all these items for about $12 - the combo plate was a side and two meats. The spring roll was separate. I do wish I had more meat though - very small portions and one skewer.

Jim H.

Yelp
Been wanting to come here for almost 2 years; finally made it and was not disappointed! The meal was outstanding! Chicken curry was excellent as was the Adobo chicken. Very friendly staff. One customer took the time to teach me about some of the dishes and that was very helpful! I'll be back for sure! Highly recommended!

Yelp
Counter Service. Light delicate balance of flavors and ingredients. Common comfort food. Menu may be rotational, so call ahead of you have a favorite. 3 COMBO may be steep for $9-ish but it serves 2. PORK BBQ - a good balance of marble meet and marination. Just right sauce. Great aroma when reheated. FRIED RICE - right mixture of ingredients. Not greasy. LONGANISA SAUSAGE - ordered from somebody somewhere. Nicely prepared. 2-pcs for the COMBO. CRAB OMELETTE - my first. Not bad. Fake Crab is used. PORK ADOBO is Tagalog style (sour/vinegar stew) with a taste similar to PAKSIW (repurposed leftover lechon by Bisayans). Pour that soup-ish/liquid over plain rice/or any rice...delicioso! PANCIT is made of rice vermicelli (my preference) instead of yellow noodles. Texture with light flavor. Truly acts as a rice substitute in a different form. DRINKS are bottled and canned. KROGER WATER is $1. SODA is $1.25. RETAIL (Brown Coffee) - skip it. Ridiculously fake instant coffee with unpronounceable ingredients. Made from Indonesia, distributed from Mandaue City (hello Cebu - featured in Foodnetwork). Leave it alone. Just a name with Vanilla. Great SERVICE. Don't hesitate to ask any questions. The Gals will gladly assist. Small VENUE is superbly clean and organized.

Nicole-Gayle M.

Yelp
I'm very disappointed. I used to come here often. However every time I come now it's a problem. I got a take out today with sinigang and only got one piece of meat. For spending $15 that's all I got. I'm never coming back. I was so pissed I didn't even eat my food. Just sad. My fiancé happens to like this restaurant and now he swears we will never come back.

Randi B.

Yelp
We love this place. Pancit and lumpia are my favorite. I really like the BBQ skewers also. Tried the shaved ice today and think.they use real syrup. Yumm.

Krystle C.

Yelp
This was our first time trying Rice 'n Roll and we are so happy we did! They were so nice and welcoming that it was just like I was at my Tita's house. My boys loved it and we brought some extra food home for my husband to try. We'll be back for sure next we want our Filipino food fix.

Jeremiah H.

Yelp
Hands down one of the worst places I have eaten at. Ordered two entrees both with pork. The cuts of meat were loaded in fat and had far too many bones to pick out after... sadly noticed after what felt like breaking a tooth. $8.00 bubble tea that was worse than any place I have gotten, extremely powdery.. not to mention we ordered two "shakes" and were given "iced" drinks. Not to mention the paid reviews that are from all over the country. This place is a 2 star at best trying to pass off quality food. Literally, they are directly across form a fruit and vegetable market and the food contains no vegetables and meat from a scrap bin. Again, to emphasize the worst Filipino food I have had. Let's also talk about how you order food and they don't tell you the store front is closed. So when you go to pick up food you ordered and walk in they chase you out of the store and tell you it's closed and only for carry while you try to explain you placed an order and weren't told to call and have it brought out...

Dan J.

Yelp
This is my first time trying filipino food. They have some really far out choices like a whole fish deep fried to more traditional noodle and rice dishes. Everything was very good and the owner was so very friendly . i hope that they do very well.

Casey V.

Yelp
I'm filipino and from the west coast. I had just moved to Michigan not too long ago, so whenever I get homesick I come here to have a little taste of home! I love it here!

Shari H.

Yelp
Fun Filipino food and service. This little hole-in-the-wall is a great find! The food is reasonably priced and served buffet style--you select and they serve. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food was quite flavorful. They will give you samples of the dishes prior to purchasing if you're unsure if you'll like something. And there's a little grocery area against the back wall. I will definitely be back!

SassCheynbuggy J.

Yelp
I've been searching for a Filipino restaurant since I moved to Michigan 2 months ago. Let me tell you.....this place is it!!!! Everything hand made, pastries made from scratch! The owner was delightful and happy. My family and I will definitely return very soon!

Earl Gerald C.

Yelp
Okay, I am Filipino, born in the Philippines, lived on Oahu for 7 years; parents currently live in Seattle, so I've been to a good number of good Filipino joints. When I heard this place was opening up a few weeks ago, I was ecstatic. I live in in East Detroit and Rice and Roll was only 15 minutes away. I've been to this place 3 times since it opened, and honestly, this place isn't much to write home about. Maybe my expectations were too high; maybe I was expecting my parent's home-cooked Filipino meals, but every time I left the restaurant, I was not satisfied. This last time, I ordered their pancit palabok, a vegetable spring roll and a BBQ pork stick. The pancit palabok did not have enough sauce and the BBQ stick was cold. The spring roll was fine. I love Filipino Food and I am all up for supporting Filipino places, but, I don't know, I was hoping for my go-to Filipino place; my home away from home and an instant cure for my homesickness episodes. Maybe that was a bit too much, I'll give it a try again... someday.

Bob N.

Yelp
My first time trying Filipino food and wow. I ordered just about everything they had Pancit, egg rolls, bbq pork skewers and languista sausages. Sausages were plump little nuggets of goodness with a sticky sweet sauce that you'll lick your fingers clean. BBQ pork was so good could eat them all day. Pancit was ok I guess, I never had it before but not very flavorful. Welcome to SCS

Marie A.

Yelp
This is my second visit, I love the egg rolls! Reminds me of Jollibee shanghai rolls :) the pork bbq was still yummy, it just needed to be reheated cause it seemed like it just came out of the fridge. The fried rice was lightly seasoned but still tasty, my toddler liked eating it. And the fried milkfish was yummy! Definitely won't be my last visit, and I'm hoping they cook pork adobo and lechon kawali soon! :)

C M.

Yelp
We had alot of fun here exploring Filipino cuisine (lumpia was our favorite) and people-watching. Warning: the Halo Halo is huge!!

Ron Z.

Yelp
I stopped in about 30 minutes before closing. The food is served off of a cafeteria style steam tray - and it was room temperature cold. I have no idea how long my dinner was in the temperature danger zone, but I know that the health department would have a cow over "hot" food held at less than 140*.

Tracy H.

Yelp
Sooooo beyond excited to learn that a Filipino restaurant opened up near me!! I had lumpia an pancit. It was so yummy and my little one liked it too!

Jordana L.

Yelp
Literally everything we got was delicious. We ordered the chicken adobo, chicken alfritada, pork skewers, fried rice, pacit rice, and Bicol express. Seriously, everything was so good. The service was quick considering how large our order was, and that I kept changing the order in the phone call. I'm very bad at talking I'm the phone. Also since we ordered so much they gave up some free coconut macaroons for free to try! They were so nice and accommodating. I'd recommend them to anyone

Phil G.

Yelp
Finally! A half way decent Filipino TuroTuro (cafeteria style) place in metro Detroit with spectacular assortment of classic Filipino courses. The owner "Jose" and his team are extremely hospitable. Super casual. Come here for the food !!! We have to come back for their amazing dessert selection !

Cesa C.

Yelp
Love this place! Makes me feel like I'm at home. So much cleaner and was more delicious than any other Filipino restaurant I've been to in Metro Detroit. The people who own this place are so welcoming! Definitely going back!

Rica A.

Yelp
I'm disappointed with the service they provided. I ordered a varieties of food from them yesterday. We waited for half an hour for the food that they claimed that were already cooked. When I came to pick up my foods I paid them with my card and handed the lady some cash money or the tip. When I got home i got unhappy because the food/soup that I ordered from them were all over the cardboard and in the plastic bag. Because the styrofoam were all melted in the bottom. I didn't get to enjoy the food that I bought. And to make the matter worst, the next day I found out that they charged my card again for the tip. I tried reaching out to them but they did not respond.

Matthew B.

Yelp
Just moved to Saint Clair Shores about a month ago, which seems to be not long after this place opened. I like having options for food (other than typical diner food and sandwiches) so I was happy to give Rice n Roll a try. All-in-all a very positive experience. The staff was friendly and welcomed us as we arrived, so it was off to a great start. Coming from Las Vegas, I was pretty familiar with Filipino food. I had the BBQ skewers, sausage, vegetable egg roll, and pancit. My wife and I shared a cassava cake. I was happy with all of the food - very tasty, and definitely a place I will be coming back to. The only downside is portion size, but I cannot really complain too much when what I received was more than enough to fill me up with plenty left for dinner.

Jake L.

Yelp
The food was super good and the employees are so nice, made trying Filipino food for the first time wonderful! Will definitely be coming back soon

T M.

Yelp
We love Rice 'n Roll's pancit noodles which are much like how my mom made them, light noodles with veggies and chicken. Their version of lumpia is also delicious. Once, I had shared their lumpia with my training class. They really enjoyed the lumpia egg rolls with garlic-vinegar dipping sauce. Yum!

Elsie C.

Yelp
I gave it 2 stars because we drove 30 minutes to this place, and it was closed on Monday. In Yelp it says it's Open from 11-7pm. I can't really comment on the food because we never get a chance to try it. I don't know if I will give Yelp 2 stars from giving wrong information, but if you post in your business in Yelp it's the business responsibility to update their time and day when they're open and closed.

Christine L.

Yelp
Delicious, fresh, homemade! Staff is very helpful. Try something different, visit this little gem.

Curtis C.

Yelp
Can't comment on the food since the place is closed on a Monday even though Yelp says it's open. Hours displayed in the window clearly state it is closed both Sundays and Mondays. Disappointing.

Cody M.

Yelp
We walked in for the first time and everyone was so friendly and welcoming! They allowed us to try a few samples to figure out what we wanted. The prices were very reasonable and the food was amazing! I will have to go back and try a few more things. Looking forward to my next visit!

Ashley M.

Yelp
My first time trying Filipino food, and it was delicious. I got the pancit, the barbecue pork, and coconut chicken. Everything was great, but I really enjoyed the pork. The owner was also super friendly!

M S.

Yelp
Still like the food here for the most part but the temperature thing is a big deal. The food is prepped and held buffet style until you order it. However, it's barely warm. This is a serious case of food poisoning waiting to happen. I hope management reviews food safety and starts keeping everything much hotter

Nick G.

Yelp
Very good food. Tasted authentic in my opinion based on growing up with plenty of Filipino food. I had the Lumpia, BBQ Pork and the Pansit. Priced fairly. Nice and clean inside. I would give 5 stars if the food was kept "warm". I find that a little strange that it needs to be warmed up. Not very comforting. However, I will return going forward.

Rebecca I.

Yelp
I had the meat egg rolls, pancit and casava cake. To much celery in the pancit but other then that good. Extra bonus they have a small asian grocery in the store. Nice to have filipino food in the area.. Very good helpful staff.

Junebug G.

Yelp
Nice people, good food, great business in the Shores!

Leana L.

Yelp
Tried this place today and really liked it. The owner is super nice too. I recommend the chicken adobo.

Chelle L.

Yelp
Awesome food!! We just stopped in today for the first time and it was fantastic! *HEART*

Veronica E.

Yelp
Boyfriend and I came as first timers today. We had NO idea where to start and what to order. The staff were super friendly and offered us samples before ordering. We both ordered their combination options and barely walked out of the place we were so full. Food was absolutely delicious and a lot of friendly conversations at this little gem. Definitely coming back.

Imelda R.

Yelp
Very wide Filipino food selection and service is excellent. Place is also very clean!
