"Rice Passions opened in Revere in January 2018 in the space once occupied by Maekha Thai (163 Squire Rd.). The restaurant is known for beautifully composed Thai dishes. The co-owners of Rice Passions, Teradate Suntornnut and Fonthip Suntornnut, are expanding to Newton Centre." - Terrence Doyle

"This Thai restaurant replaced another Thai restaurant, Maekha Thai, which closed in late October 2017 due to the owner’s health issues. The new spot serves a large menu of curry-based entrees, noodle dishes (including pad thai and a spicy “country style” version), fried rice, and more." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

Don’t usually go out of my way to leave a review. This place is amazing, our server was friendly and recommended their lunch special. For around $15 you’ll get an appetizer, a really good size lunch and a drink. Our group had a chicken salad, pad Thai and a chicken fried rice. For drinks you should try the Thai iced tea! Can’t believe this place isn’t packed for lunch time.

Google
Drove by this place for years. Never went in because it just looked like a hole in the wall. Finally decided to try it and I’m mad I waited so. Waitresses were super friendly and had me out of there in maybe 10 minutes after placing a to go order. Got the Shrimp Pad Thai for lunch and I will be back!

First time trying this place & everything was so worth it, our waitress was so amazing she was super sweet and made sure everything was taken care of for us. We had a bday celebration and she was able to bring the cake out and even provide candles for the cake and play bday music ! The food was amazinggg, the spicy mecathang had a kick and was very flavorful. I loved their pad thai, it was the perfect amount of sweet. The prices for the food is also very reasonable. I would definitely recommend this place & can’t wait to go again !

Google
10/10 would recommend this place! Parking is a bit tight so we parked next door at the dollar general and walked over. DON’T let the outside fool you it’s super cute and clean inside. Our meals were delicious and presented nicely. Our waitress was very nice and attentive, really wished we lived closer we’d be here at least once a week! We also ordered dessert and bubble tea 🧋 again everything was AMAZING!

Yelp
Found this Thai restaurant on our way to Maine from the BOS airport. The food was delicious and the portions very generous. The price was reasonable and the service was adequate. What stood out is that the bill paid by our table was mixed up with another table (we did not realize it either) and even though we were already in our car preparing to leave, one of the workers ran out and caught up with us to adjust the bill and made sure we received back the $10.00 that was overpaid. Goodness of the heart and delicious food, so glad we found this place.

Nayiri B.

Yelp
This is hands down best Thai food I've had in the Boston area after 30 years of living here. The food was delicious. I particularly loved the Tom Kha soup - you could taste every component but the flavors were so perfectly blended. The service was great and the food came out fairly quickly. Even though we don't live nearby, we will be back to Revere again the next time we are craving Thai.

Stanley U.

Yelp
This Thai spot near my workplace has quickly become a favorite among my coworkers and me. Their lunch combos offer incredible value, with generous portions and flavorful dishes. We're particularly fond of the Pad See Ew combo, which includes your choice of dumplings or spring rolls and can be paired with a refreshing Thai iced coffee or Thai tea for an extra dollar. The servers know us at this point so they are super friendly and know what we want the second we walk in.

John A.

Yelp
I've done mostly takeout and give the food high marks. I'm a big red curry fan in particular but everything I've ordered has been excellent.

Areeba Z.

Yelp
I was craving panang curry and rice passions was the closest delivery option. They have so many items on the menu, it was hard to decide what to pick! We went with a few buns (chicken and beef), rice paper rolls, and panang curry with noodles. The food was packaged well. Everything had a delicious peanut sauce/taste to it. The ingredients are fresh, the serving size big, definitely another takeout option to add to your rotation.

Barry R.

Yelp
I have found the prices equal to the South End Thai places. While I enjoy a beautifully garnished radish or cucumber, I'd sure prefer a meal-sized portion instead. And here's one I can't confirm: On Uber Eats I was searching local Thai, and a place with no address but that pointed back to Rice Passions came up. The menu was slightly more cost and portion friendly, but do so many locals think they are both stingy and pricey that they created a shadow site? I look forward to clarifications.

Ryan D.

Yelp
Multiple hairs found in my order tonight. Honestly just disgusting. Threw out the curry as soon as I discovered. I will NEVER order from here again.

Alexander D.

Yelp
The Food is AMAZING! our server was spectacular. The place is so lively and warm. I had scallion pancakes with chicken fingers and fries. 10/10 definitely recommend this place

Almira Rochelle B.

Yelp
Food is the best I've had in the area. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience with the server. When it was time to pay the bill, she demanded I pay 15% or more tip because I ordered $100 worth of food. She said, "You pay $100 worth of food but cannot give me more tip?" I thought the rule was for parties of five or more is that you pay 15% or more tip. It was my husband, me and two kids.

Robo T.

Yelp
Just an update... the food is still bomb dot com. The chicken satays are delicious. The steamed dumplings are what I call "the good kind" of thai restaurant dumplings..they are absolutely delicious. The kapow chicken is delicious. It was a lot more "saucy" than it is at other places but still amazing. The service is very good. The carpet needs replacing but that does not detract from this place being top notch delicious and highly recommended.

Walter K.

Yelp
Totally look forward visiting rice passions every time I am in the Boston area.. the food is absolutely spot on Thai cuisine!! The staff is alway appreciative of each customer and extremely helpful trying to enhance your dining experience!! If you are into Thai food and you are in the revere mass area! It's a must !! You won't be disappointed

Yelp
Usually I would rate this place a 4/5 from my past experiences with this restaurant, however this past experience with Rice Passions has knocked it down a star. This most recent order included Drunken Noodles and Basil Fried Rice which was quite mediocre. In particular, the flavors just, weren't there. Instead the dishes tasted quite bland compared to my previous experiences. If I could make draw a comparison to my most recent experience with Rice Passions, both the food color/lack of spice and lack of color (representing more a yellowish/tan/beige hue instead a bit more multicolored and fresh) could be likened to you local late night D-list hole in the wall Chinese spot that serve yellow rice, tough meat with overly sweet sauce and chicken wings at 3AM. This wasn't the vibe that I was going for when I was looking to have some quality Thai food tonight. Hopefully this past experience is more of a one-off. I don't if it was ordering UberEats at 6:30pm on a Wednesday or just a different chef that did not put the expected love, passion, and care into the food, but this most recent experience with Rice Passions was not up to par by any means.

Jean C.

Yelp
We really loved the food. It was nice and hot and well spiced with fresh vegetables. Highly recommend this place.

Grier F.

Yelp
Overall rating: 4 stars Food:Delicious Thai cuisine bursting with flavor Texture: rice was perfectly cooked, not too dry but not too sweet. The noodles were springy and bouncy. Noodles were a but spicy for my liking. Pricing: $40 for 2 Thai Teas, an appetizer, a rice dish, and noodle dish Ambiance: intimidating from the outside but spacious and well furnished on the inside Seating & Parking: there are a few spots in front for free parking Service: our waitress was very kind, she even taught us a little Thai Music: Radio Pop Music and occational Thai music Bathrooms: male and female bathrooms Final comments: a hidden gem in Revere

Kelly P.

Yelp
If you want the best Pad Thai ever, this is the place. I didn't even like pad Thai until I ate it here. It's perfection!

Nick K.

Yelp
My favorite Thai food go to spot! Love the pad thai and pad see ewe and wings! Its a great value and they make food fast to order. Love Rice Passions! :D

Erick P.

Yelp
Amazing food at an affordable price. We ordered the Tom Yum, red curry, and fried rice which were all amazing in their own way. I have never had the fried chicken with Thai food but it was a nice change. In the future I will order the meals in a traditional style just because it is what I like. Either option is good. The space is well maintained and the staff was very kind. They offer takeout and the food is made very fast, but I went on a slow day as you can see in the photo.

Lisa L.

Yelp
So Wednesday night, we're sitting at my daughter's I door track meet next to a parent from the other team, swapping restaurant recommendations from our hometowns, Chelsea and Revere -- and she can't stop raving about this Thai place we've never heard of! So Friday night, here we are -- us and three hungry teenagers ready to try out Rice Passions. They did not disappoint! Our server gave good recommendations, food arrived quickly, and the place filled up with a diverse crowd of single people, couples, and families. Our favorite entrees were the curries (as recommended) -- the yellow curry and one with salmon in the name. They came served in a brass brazier, with rice, and they were flavorful and delicious! Pad thai and lo mein were solid but not standout. A surprise hit was among the appetizers: the scallion pancakes were good, elevated to awesome by the Really Freaking Good ginger sauce. We dipped everything in it (chicken satay, spring rolls) and contemplated asking for more. Yum. Overall: Just what we were hoping for: good food, very reasonable prices, quick and quality. We'll be back, and soon!

Saffrong G.

Yelp
The lo mein with crispy chicken is OK, and gets the job done if that's what I'm craving. Their milky tea drinks taste decent for the most part, although they can go overboard with the sugar occasionally. Only giving 2 stars because although nothing stands out as awful and it's close to me, I've gotten food poisoning twice from this place with the seaweed salad and then the vegetable tofu dish. Apparently the owners is a weird, eccentric dude. I've never met him though

Marissa R.

Yelp
We ordered 2 meals and 2 drinks for take-out during the covid pandemic. Everything was packaged nicely and neatly! I ordered the vegetarian eggplant delight dinner with a side of jasmine rice, and my boyfriend ordered the tender beef pepper dinner (comes with rice). My meal was pretty good, although i would definitely ask for the tofu to be crispier next time, as it was a bit soggy. I ordered mild and my boyfriend ordered medium spicy; mine was a very true mild and my boyfriend (who likes spicier than me) said his was perfect. For drinks, we both ordered thai tea boba drinks and they were super yummy! The boba was a bit tough, but it was plentiful so i can't complain too much. I was torn between 3-4 stars but ultimately decided on 4.

Thera S.

Yelp
We were staying at a hotel nearby and needed dinner. We were pleasantly surprised to find this place. The service was great and so was the food! It was a great dinner.

Nick P.

Yelp
Dinner Duck ginger = $17 Most of visited were great except this time. Your food still good, just not today.

David N.

Yelp
This place is absolutely fantastic! I had the phucket fried rice with fried chicken and drunken noodles. Im very picky with Thai food, but this was perfect. Would definitely recommend for anyone in the area.

Swetha K.

Yelp
We enjoyed dinner here. The boba thai iced tea was delicious. We thought the spring rolls were ok - nothing too special and the flavor was missing. The drunken noodles and basil fried rice were very tasty. The only issue was the spice level. We got spice level 3 for the drunken noodles and they were very spicy!

Howie S.

Yelp
So soon but it had to be done! I think the last time we ordered here not everything was to my preference but I changed it up, and it definitely made a difference. This time we ordered the Vegetable Pad Thai Level 2 Spice and it was great. I used the peanut sauce to add flavor on the regular before and this did not need any more flavor. It was completely there. The sweet and sour was perfectly balanced by the heat and I could have eaten the whole dish by myself. My wife however thought it was tolerable but was not her comfort of spice. Both of us have had experience with fresh spicy peppers and rediculous hot sauces and I honestly feel that level 2 was good for me personally. I don't see myself ordering higher than a 3. That said... She has a runny nose at the moment. We tried the fried spring rolls on the side and they tasted pretty good. Crunchy, and there was filling but maybe for the price it could have been a little more. I don't think that we will be ordering that again because it wasn't unpleasant but for the price I'd rather pay that for 2 larger spring rolls with extra stuff inside instead of just cabbage. Very good but I will not tell people to try them. Overall! Excellent experience... Maybe next time I'll try the Rangoon but I'm sold on their spice levels. Definitely a repeat customer here.

Cosmo X.

Yelp
Food was ok. pad Thai not over sweet nice n wet.. spring roll basic. chicken satay ok.. peanut sauce blah... scallion pancake thin crispy lacked some flavor

Jonathan H.

Yelp
Amazing food! Consistency, check! Flavor, check! What more can you ask for? Krapow chicken is what you would call Crispy chicken, basil! Love, love, love! Try it, it,s amazing!

Rebecca S.

Yelp
Ordered takeout from here last week and it was amazing, very impressed with the quality of the food here and can't wait to try everything else on the menu. The sweet purple sticky rice was 10/10 and the yellow curry was delicious, but spicy so make sure to keep that in mind when choosing your spice level.

Ploypailin R.

Yelp
I would like to recommend Thai restaurant in Revere area, big restaurant. And the food here tastes delicious, feels like you're eating in Thailand. I recommend the famous dish of my country, Stir-fried basil with beef. It's spicy but very delicious with steamed rice, and other dishes are delicious as well. And don't forget if you like beer. Introducing the beer of Thailand, Singha Beer or Thai ice tea it's so good, as the service of the the restaurant. A staff so kind and friendly.

Matt R.

Yelp
Rice Passions has been a lowkey staple in Revere for longer than people realize. Existing in a past life as "Maekha Thai" 8 or so years ago, this spot has consistently been one of the best Thai joints in North Shore MA. Staff is so so friendly, drinks & food are cheap and reasonably priced. The menu is classic quick Thai fare and it's all solid as hell -- you won't go wrong with a Drunken Noodle or a Black Pad Thai (my favorite and also pictured below). For apps, the chicken wings are always piping hot and deep fried to perfection. Each classic Thai soup is executed nicely; the Tom Kha stands out especially. Great for delivery and a sit-down, Rice Passions is my sleeper favorite spot in Revere. Sometimes you just have THAT local place you and this was one is mine.

Linda D.

Yelp
The pad thai country style is my go to. The place is nice with a friendly but busy staff. I usually go when it's not too busy but it has ramped up in deliveries.

Robin F.

Yelp
Doesn't look like much from the outside but the food is great and fresh. They do lots of takeout judging from the number of DoorDash drivers that came in while I was eating

Liz B.

Yelp
The tofu panang curry was great! The Veggie Fresh Basil Rolls were meh (mostly iceberg lettuce and a bit of cucumber, Thai basil, etc.--they would be more flavorful by adding tofu and serving with peanut sauce instead of the current sauce, which was hoisin or tasted similar).

C A P.

Yelp
If you are in the mood for some delicious Thai food this is the perfect place to go. Located on Squire Rd in Revere. The restaurant is clean and comfortable. The staff are warm and friendly and if you are a regular customer, you are welcomed and they know your favorite's on the menu. The chicken satay is so yummy and is an awesome appetizer. I always order either chicken or salmon mango curry and the curry is rich and flavorful chock full of veggies and mango chunks. My stomach is growling writing this review My hubby orders the chicken basil and I always make sure to have more than a taste The basil just pops in your mouth as the flavors of the spices coat the mushrooms, onions and peppers and carrots. You won't be disappointed in the servings. I always end up taking the rest home and look forward to the leftovers. So stop in and give them a try!! That's how we found them.

Nhung N.

Yelp
New Thai restaurant replacing Maekhi Thai. If you've been to the old Maekhai Thai, you would know there is very limited parking in front of the restaurant, only three spots. However, there is parking on the side street and also additional parking in the adjacent Dollar Tree lots. This was posted on their Facebook website so I am assuming you won't get towed for parking in the Dollar Tree lot. Just inquire within to be sure. First impression, I love the new wall mounted decor with the mason jars and plants. It did take a few minutes for the one waitress running the front to notice us and seat us. The restaurant has dim lighting and plays soft slow music in the background. The restaurant was busy on a Friday night at 7:00pm. There were five tables with patrons and only one server and a woman I presumed to be owner managing the front, helping with the checks, takeout orders, and mixing the drinks at the bar. The restaurant is so quiet that I had to constantly remind my loud-mouth four year old to use an indoor voice and then to use his whispering voice, and finally the "whoever talk first loses" game. I checked in via Yelp to claim a free Thai iced tea. The restaurant is also running a promotion going on of 20% off your first takeout or delivery order. Sadly for some folks, they only deliver to Revere, North Chelsea and East Malden at the moment. My husband had the Thai iced coffee. For the first time, I actually like the Thai coffee better than the Thai iced tea. The Thai iced tea here is a little bit weaker than most I have tried. In my opinion, they need to use more tea leaf. For entree, we had the country style shrimp pad Thai and the sea food flame pot in curry soup. The portion of pad Thai was a bit small but tasted very good but I felt like something was missing. Maybe a lime wedge, or just more noodles would be nice. The seafood flame pot was plenty for two people. There were huge pieces of fresh seafood, scallops, shrimps, squid, and salmon. The curry broth had mushroom, tomato and cilantro in it. I added fresh boiled noodles for an add a $2.00. The curry had lemongrass in it, which you don't eat. Overall, I wished they served this dish piping hot and already cooked through rather than finishing the cooking in the hot pot at the table, Waiting for the last shrimp to cook and the soup to heat up was painful when you're so hungry. I also couldn't wait to dig in since it looked so good. For dessert we had the sticky rice with mango. This was the best sticky rice I have had. I would definitely recommend this. My suggestion is if they could also served it with hot coconut milk cream and some toasted sesame seed. That would make it so much better. But it's also very good as is. Very simplistic. Although service was slow, the owner frequently checked in to see how the food was and if we needed anything. I am serve the waitress was frazzled running the front by her self, answering and taking phone orders, walk-in takeout orders, and the dine-in patrons. They could use one more waiter/waitress. The owner also gave my son a fabric elephant key chain when we left which was so nice of her. We will definitely be coming back to try the other dishes. See my pictures.

Justin C.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying how happy I am with this restaurant! All the dishes ordered were very tasty with each delivering different flavor and spice combinations. The restaurant is well decorated with a U-shaped bar at the end of the restaurant. It's a cute date spot but can also accommodate a larger group easily. The customer service at the restaurant seems to be accommodating as well, with quick and timed plating of food (apps first and soon after entrees). On a separate occasion I ordered delivery from this restaurant and it was during a busy night so it took 1.5 hours but they were nice enough to cut the bill in half! The delivery driver was very apologetic and after tasting the food I could not be mad. Recommended dishes: - Pad See Ew - Pineapple fried rice - Drunken noodles - Chili Crispy Duck - Tamarind Duck - Tom Yum Soup - Fried Calamari** - Sweet and sour ribs- pork was THICC and juicy - Scallion pancake - mango with sweet sticky rice + Coconut ice cream *** Pros: - Great atmosphere - Tasty dishes with good portion sizes - Good service Cons: - Butterfly pea milk (unless you like the taste of double bubble bubble bum or banana flavored laffy-taffy I would not recommend this drink) Verdict: - Highly recommend for sit down or delivery. - Food is delicious everything from the apps to the desserts - great place for a cute date or family dinner

Yelp
I'm always so excited when I travel and I find a great eatery . This place is a gem the food , drink , service and environment are absolutely great You can tell this is a local favorite . Look forward to coming here again in the future .

Tatum K.

Yelp
Have been coming here for past 3 years and each time gets better and better, they know me so well now and have even memorized my order(they are a super kind staff)the food is always consistent and delicious nice and flavorful. On a rainy day I like to get the Beef noodle soup or the Duck noodle soup can't go wrong with either :) also their drinks are on point ,This place is a hidden gem and throughout the pandemic has been my go-to. Don't overlook this spot

Maury N.

Yelp
We live in Revere and love Thai food, having been going to Thai Choice in Gloucester of all places we took the chance and ordered takeout from Rice Passion. Oh my god was it ever good. How stupid of us to not have tried this restaurant before. Stubbiness can bite you in the ass and it did. This food is off the moon. Our new find and what a home run.

Lyras T.

Yelp
I had bought a Groupon for this place. The food was a hair better than what you can get in the mall. The owner obviously has a screw loose. I wrote a review on Groupon and he replied to me in a hostile manner, ranting how he has "been married to a Thai person for 25 years", whatever that has to do with anything. I had a friend who also went and SHE told me he came over to her table and went on and on about how his gay lover died and whatnot which is sad BUT: a.) how can you trust what that looney says, his story changes from person to person and b.) hitting a customer with talk of death and inappropriately personal information while you stand over them and their food is NOT good for the appetite. When I was there he was very confrontational with a customer who had a complaint, looming over them and yelling. I can see from these reviews that he behaves inappropriately and makes his customers uncomfortable all the time. And why sit around looking at your reviews, and react by writing hostile replies full of lies to each one? The food and lack of space is the least of their worries. That owner is going to ruin his business because he doesn't know how to act around other human beings.

Yana K.

Yelp
I have done delivery many times and I personally love the food every time. Yesterday my mother and I were shopping and I suggested we stop by to eat there. As soon as we came in we noticed a strong odor. Seems like the smell was from dirty carpet? I don't want to make any accusation but you know when you come somewhere for the first time and you see something dirty you just keep noticing more. Very shameful for management of the restaurant. Tables where sticky , carpet was dirty and it was very dusty. Your servers were sitting on the phone doing nothing when they could have cleaned the place . We were the only table. Also service was hostile and not friendly at all. I would not return and I will find another Thai food for take out until the place looks clean and sanitary for food consumption.

Ooo_la_la_itan 1.

Yelp
I use to eat here frequently but I don't know if something has changed with management or not as much effort is being placed into making meals with the pandemic but I basically wasted $50 on drunken noodles and pad Thai. The drunken noodles had been boiled for too long!!! The noodles were very mushy as if it was from the bottom of the pot. The Bangkok is much better, sadly I was too lazy to drive to Melrose. Save your money and go somewhere else. I hope their food improves.

Mandy L.

Yelp
Food: 4.5/5 Customer Service: 5/5 My friends and I come as a regular to this place. The food is decent - I usually get the Tom Yum Noodle soup. Tom yum noodle soup is pretty good and very flavorful. The only thing I would criticize is when I ask for extra vegetables it doesn't look like there was much added from the regular order. Other than that the customer service is pretty good and the waiters are friendly. I would recommend this restaurants to others!

Heather V.

Yelp
I've been ordering food from them since they opened and am no longer a fan. Their food is good, but they've messed up my order too many times. I looked forward to what happened to be my final meal from them and the order was wrong. I do not eat meat and make sure to specify that when i order. I received shrimp in the vegetable basil roll and it was easy enough to pick out, but as i dug into my tofu pad thai, i found large pieces of chicken hidden in the noodles. I attempted to pick out the chicken and found many small pieces that could not be picked out which made it was inedible for me. It's not the first time my order had been wrong, but it was the first time i could not eat around it. Very disappointed.

Lucinda A.

Yelp
I tried this amazing place which was recommended by my friend and I enjoyed every bit of it. When you walk in the ambiance is soothing and the music is amazing. I love cover songs and that's all they were playing with a Jazz swing to them. I ordered pad thai and it was mouth watering. The service was very quick. I also tried their butterfly tea milk and it was out of this world. The customer service was great everytime my water was low the waitress would already be ready to fill it up. If you have never been I highly recommend you go experience it for yourself. Food: 5 Customer service: 5

Aditi S.

Yelp
This place is a quick fix for my Thai cravings! The food is good....I always had taken the to-gos so I don't have experience with the service! The food is really good especially the noodle soups and I keep going back to this place again and again

Sarah D.

Yelp
From looking at the outside of this place, it doesn't look too appealing (even saw a prostitute wandering around right in front of it). But do not judge by the looks because it is great! I ordered the fresh basil rolls and a lunch portion of the chicken basil fried rice. Both tasted fresh and very healthy. They both had basil leaves in them and fresh vegetables in the rolls. The peanut sauce that came with the rolls was very flavorful. Fried rice was a bit spicy but not too much. The service was fast and friendly!

Rebecca K.

Yelp
Affordable Thai food in Revere. The pad Thai is amazing. Interior decor needs a little tlc. Kind of "cold" in here. Otherwise, great Thai. Get it for delivery?!

Myan T.

Yelp
Delicious Thai cuisine! We came solely for fried fish as we had a craving and did not want to travel far. Although I prefer catfish, the stripe bass did not disappoint. About $25.95 market price this visit. It was thoroughly crispy from head to tail but not greasy at all. Perfectly fried. The flesh inside was juicy and moist. It was prepared with a sweet chili sauce that complimented the fish well. The sauce was well balance and not overly sweet. We did not think the fried basil topping was necessary as we thought it lost most of the mint flavor in the frying process. The veggies on the bottom were a nice touch and tasty as well. I also took the opportunity to sample a curry dish. I chose the lunch option of the Penang Curry with chicken. The dish consisted of a rich coconut curry sauce with a nice blend of spices. I did taste quite a bit of star anise, but not overpowering. It contained a good amount of veggies which made it a hearty and wholesome meal. You can definitely fill up on the lunch portion. My only suggestion is for more tender veggies. That's normally how a majority of southeast asians enjoy our curry lol. Other than that the dish was yum. Overall..., Prices are reasonable and service was attentive. They do offer great lunch specials with decent variety. Parking is really limited in the lot. However, if you don't mind parking and walking from the side streets, it's worth a visit. ;)
