"Fashion designer Richard Rivalee shares his passion for Nyonya culture and Peranakan food in this smart vintage joint, whose knickknacks and heritage premises are a nod to the Baba-Nyonya culture. Deceptively simple, homespun dishes are finessed with spot-on seasoning and loads of punch. Otak-otak, or savoury fish egg custard, combines a velvety texture with just the right amount of heat. To reduce food waste, most items are available in two portion sizes." - Michelin Inspector

Most of the food tastes average. I would personally recommend the lobak (it has a unique flavor compared to the usual one), cucuk udang, nasi ulam (a must-try), laksa steamed fish (I'm not entirely sure if this is the one), and white mutton curry. The service is good, and the environment is clean and pleasant. It’s a bit pricey, but still reasonable. As for parking, it can be difficult to find street parking, but there’s a WOW hotel parking lot at nearby.

Tried a Michelin-starred restaurant in Penang for the first time. The atmosphere was elegant and inviting—definitely a highlight of the experience. As for the food, opinions in our group of eight varied: some found the dishes rich in flavor and memorable, while others felt the taste was a bit too subtle for their liking. Personally, I found it enjoyable overall—perhaps not mind-blowing, but certainly a pleasant dining experience.

Nice Dinner in a Traditional House Had dinner here one evening with friends. The one good thing about the restaurant is it could easily accommodate a big group, but reservations are needed. The first thing that struck me was how beautifully curated the house is. Definitely done up so that one can also have a feast for both the tummy and the eyes. The food was good all round, with each member of the group liking the different dishes. There was no star dish that everyone liked though. Service was alright given the crowd. When you can get their attention they really try to help. Overall a cool place to dine in !

For the first time, I am very disappointed with the food. Especially their Chicken Pongteh was extremely salty. Despite telling them that, they brought it back with the same saltiness just added with more sauce (or water). The Foo Yong Egg was oily and tasteless… what’s going on? Fish was good but the chili sauce lack sweetness. Drinks was great with the perfect amount of sweetness. Friendly staff! The last time I came in 2024, it was excellent… but now it’s just bad. Thank God they have a great staff apologizing to me and agreed to waived off the dish from the bill.

The nyonya cuisine here is decent, but nothing particularly stood out for me. The ambience and atmosphere do give it a more premium feel, which may be part of the overall experience.

Overall the food tasted average. The stingray was very fresh. The food portion was quite small. The ambience is good for tourists who want to experience Nyonya culture.

We recently dined at a charming Nyonya restaurant and had a pleasant overall experience. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, with warm service from the staff. The menu featured a variety of classic Nyonya dishes, and we were especially excited to try their signature item – the Steamed Laksa Fish. Unfortunately, this dish did not quite live up to our expectations. While the presentation was impressive, the flavors fell a little flat, lacking the rich, spicy depth typically associated with laksa-based recipes. It could have benefited from a stronger blend of herbs and spices. On a brighter note, we really enjoyed the Otak Otak. It was fragrant, perfectly grilled, and had a smooth texture with a balanced amount of spice. The Asam Fish Stingray was another highlight of our meal – tangy, flavorful, and served with just the right amount of heat. The stingray was tender and soaked up the asam gravy beautifully. Overall, while the signature Steamed Laksa Fish didn’t quite hit the mark, the other dishes made up for it. We’d definitely consider returning to try more of their offerings, especially if they continue to deliver such satisfying classics like the Otak Otak and Asam Fish Stingray.
