Had visited the original one in San Diego about 15 years ago and that memory of amazing pancakes was still there in my mind. While this is not the same place and is much smaller and less busier, they did justice to the food. We were able to find a place without waiting on a Sunday morning. There was free parking at the site. Food was as expected, fresh, hot and large serving size. Everything we ordered lived upto the hype. Baked apple pancake is a must have. Service staff were prompt and friendly. Overall a good dining experience!!

Google
I fell in love with this place! I’m so happy to discover this restaurant. The food was amazing and the service was great. I love the atmosphere too. The prices are similar to most other places. Everything was made just right and i love the coffee. The employees are so welcoming and kind. I definitely will be back again.

Google
Always a great breakfast stop for the family. Sometimes the kids just want waffles and pancakes and this is their go-to spot close to home.

Google
Dirty water glasses. Asked for American cheese got cheddar, which would be easily fixed if they wrote down orders instead of remembering them. Got 4 pancakes and the smallest amount of syrup. Food was okay but not worth the price. Waitress was kinda short with us but granted it was near closing time but we didn't know

Google
This place was amazing. The coffe was a perfect temperature. Not blistering hot and not just warm either. The service was great from the hostess to the waitress. The hostess realized that we had two small children and sat us within 8 minutes skipping the line without us asking. The waitress was patient, allowing the kids to place their own order. The food was delicious as well. We will be back again for sure!

Google
We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast experience at this restaurant. Although there was a brief delay in being acknowledged at the counter, the overall breakfast experience was delightful. The Baked German Apple Pancake was a unique treat, both in terms of taste and presentation, and it was deliciously sweet on its own, eliminating the need for additional syrup. The Ultimate Egg Benedicts offered three variations, each with its own delightful twist. Among them, the one with mushroom, meat, and spinach stood out as particularly delicious and satisfying. Despite the initial delay, the overall service was good.

Google
We were traveling and looking for a place for breakfast. What a GEM. Great food...atmosphere....and top notch service. We ate on their patio outside, and it was such a great experience, and one of the highlights of our trip.

I have to share how disappointed I am with the management staff this morning. I called to let them know we would be there with a dog. They assured we would be fine and there was no wait. Once we arrived there was a full restaurant and a wait. They saw us with a small dog, in a satchel. After waiting for 30 minutes they let three tables sit ahead of us, saying they would sit us outside. Then they sat us inside, and after serving us waters said we can’t sit inside with the dog. It felt very accusatory and inhospitable after they had just sat us there. Then they had us wait, sat us outside, then said we can’t have the dog in the satchel. Easy way to have avoided this is communicating the dog policy either on the phone, when we arrived, and maybe not having a voicemail claiming to be dog friendly when the staff didn’t reflect that attitude and only waiting to communicate their rules to us after 30 minutes of waiting.

Yelp
Yes, the service can be a little slow when Walkers is crowded, but the REASON it's crowded is that you can't get a better breakfast ANYWHERE, and anyone who thinks otherwise, I wouldn't want to know or even talk to (especially about food!)--that's how much I/we love the place. Anytime we've taken with us a guest who has never eaten there before, which we do as often as we can, that guest becomes an immediate fan, and can't wait to return. Everything on the menu is great. (Don't miss the "Dutch baby"!)

Yelp
Arrived close to 11 am ish and it was quick to be seated as a party of 2. They have an actual line rather than a waitlist, which honestly, can be appreciated so you know you're not skipped. Their outdoor dining gets some winter sun, but it was still nice. We're here for the food, specifically their German pancake. Go with people you'll share with and enjoy!! Follow the instructions they provide because it's the best way to eat the lemony syrup pancake. The pancake itself is so chewy and yummy, we saved the best for last. My partner and I shared the chilaquiles which has a delicious salsa Verde with the right amount of spice. We were so hungry that we didn't even speak while we devoured the chilaquiles. Service was friendly and they checked on us mid meal. All was good here and we'll be back.

Yelp
Yikes, another overdue review. . Came here with a friend before I had to go gluten free. Got the Belgian waffle, friend got the Eggs Benedict. Decent food and service. This place gets packed and parking is tight so it can feel a bit frenetic and not as relaxed as you'd expect for breakfast/brunch.
google avatar

Hohoho B.

Yelp
We thought it was ok. Service was decent. Food portions were big (my omlet was huge) taste was slightly bland but that is probably coz we're used to a lot of seasoning. With some ketchup and hot sauce it was good...a little greasy but good. Parking was plentiful in the lot. It's a good location across from CVS.

Yelp
Dog friendly! Outstanding food and service. Sunday visit. We were a party of 5 humans and 1 pup. Had to wait for a patio table, about 20 minutes, but worth it. Thick cut bacon cooked perfectly. Crisp and chewy at the same time. Smoked ham, delicious. Corned beef hash, in house recipe was so tasty. Eggs, perfect. Pancakes, crisp edges, fluffy center. Great job Mr. Walker!

Ron G.

Yelp
Was looking for something different for breakfast today. I typically go to Naked Cafe in Encinitas, so I stopped I by Richard Walker's. Service was good, the bacon pancakes were yummy, but I don't get the small coffee cups. I guess I understand the idea that they're making sure your coffee is always hot, but if you have to flag down a server to refill an empty cup multiple times, it gets inconvenient. I'd rather have larger cups that occasionally get topped off than small cups that constantly need refilling.

Yelp
Place was empty at 7:30, walked right in and had good service. But then again, we were the only customers. The place was quiet and peaceful, except for the staff who were talking and joking among themselves so loud as to be irritating. My wife and I each ordered the simple bacon and eggs for the outrageous price of $19, and it doesn't come with potatoes. Just bacon and eggs. Oh, and the coffee was $5! A simple bfast for two was well over $50! With tip, we were stuck with a $60 bfast. I just can't accept paying that price for bfast, so we'll pass on this place in the future. Maybe that's why the place was empty. The bacon and eggs were okay, like they are at every other restaurant. Not bad, but nothing special.

Yelp
We ordered food during the scamdepic for Easter or Mother's Day, honestly I cannot remember. We had to order our food for to go. We lived maybe 2 miles from walkers, so it was basically around the corner,(food was still hot)It was good and it wasn't too pricey. I definitely would like to get back over to try the food on a plate fresh from the kitchen.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was so good it was half eaten before I took pics. We got potato pancakes, the crepe with mushroom and spinach and I got corned beef hash for my fiancé. All was delicious and service was fast and great. Not sure why this location has 3.5 stars. Parking was easy and there was no wait on Saturday at 10am. My friend told me that when there is a wait, it's no more than 10 minutes.

Yelp
We went to Richard walkers on a Sunday morning around 10 AM, and the experience was a bit questionable at the start as they had queued up over 25 people in line but weren't seating anyone yet. Not sure if they were just slammed by an earlier rush, but we almost chose to leave and go elsewhere since it appeared hopeless. Fortunately, they then started letting all the groups in and we were able to be seated after only waiting maybe 10 minutes. I don't understand why this happened but they could have communicated better to the people in line on a warm Sunday morning. Fortunately once we were seated, it was a typical experience, which means the food was amazing and the service even better. Our orders came out hot and to perfection, with my omelette near picture perfect quality. Our server Kimberly was wonderful. She took care of the coffee refills without us needing to awkwardly try and signal someone. Also, she was very patient and lovely to us while our group of 4 finally figured out our orders. Highly recommend this place if you're in the Bressi area.

Yelp
This place is everything I was told and a cherry on top.. can't wait to go back.. service to the food to the juices.. a family of 9 and everything hit a home run!!

Yelp
Takeout ordered and the food was ready when I arrived for pickup. Breakfast ordered, pancakes and crepes were delicious. Hope to dine in soon.

Yelp
Wonderful breakfast! Hidden away in a shopping area, food and service made it worth trying them out. Omelette was amazing and very large (4 eggs) that I split it with my daughter. Similarly the waffle and pancake portions were plentiful. Would recommend they add half portion options though. A clean restaurant and service was quick and positive attitudes with all the out front staff. Look forward to our next visit.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was to die for, the coffee and hot cocoa are in small cups though, not worth $5. They didnt bring out any wipped cream or pancake syrup for the pancake.

Yelp
Awww so sad, it's been 2 years since I've been and what a difference in the quality of service. Last time it was 5 stars! The great: food omis still good! The good: get there earl7 & beat the crowd! The bad: coffee stopped when our sever went on break. The ugly: we were still eating & the server came by, dropped off our check, said he was going on break, but there was no rush ... the coffee & water stopped. We had to flag someone down for boxes & payment. YIKES

Yelp
First time here and the breakfast and service was great! I had never tried chocolate chip pancakes, they were sooooo good!

Linda S.

Yelp
I had the corn beef hash and eggs. It was horrible! Tiny little bits of nasty tasting stuff. Looked like dog food and tasted what I imagine dog food would taste like. The canned grocery store stuff is better. Yuck They had the audacity to charge $18.95 for this terrible stuff
google avatar

Yelp
Big portions! Pancakes were fluffy and tasted great. Friendly service here and a cozy ambiance. We were in and out on a Thursday morning. Only knock is the $8 orange juices and price for add-ons (whipped cream).

Yelp
Great place to have breakfast. I had the German pancake, was delicious, service was good. Nice location very busy on weekends. Chill ambiance.

Yelp
Every time I've been to a RWPH, its met or exceeded my expectations. For a traditional 9 box performance review, that mean's you're getting a raise if you maintain this intensity. Its a feast for the eyes and tastebuds, my friend. Fresh fruits and aromatics, it was the perfect way to bid adieu to the area, before heading to our next leg. And its not that expensive, all things considered.

Yelp
I've been working locally here for a few weeks and after getting tired of the same old "free" breakfast at the hotel, I decided to check out Richard Walkers Pancake House and this was a great decision. They have both inside and outside seating and the atmosphere is inviting and friendly. The menu isn't super expansive into lunch or anything, but they have a wonderful variety of pancakes, waffles, crepes, omelets, French toast and of course plenty of sides and eggs. I've tried the bacon and eggs breakfast with a side of pancakes and then the bacon pancakes. (Love me some bacon!). They were both excellent and the portions are generous. The scrambled eggs look like 3 or 4 eggs and you get 4 huge slices of bacon. They don't skimp out on portions here. I'll be trying the bacon waffle and a made to order omelet on my future visits. The pricing here is very reasonable and I'd expect to pay around $15 to $20 per person with a coffee or juice. The service was quick and my coffee never got less than half empty before I was asked if I wanted a refill. If you are near the Carlsbad area, or, see one of these locations near you, it's a must stop for breakfast. Enjoy!

Yelp
Recently dropped by here for brunch with family from out of town. First off, they were kind enough to accommodate our niece in her giant stroller, which we were super grateful for. The ambience was a bit chaotic as many of the other reviews have stated. The tables are pretty close together and we were seated right by the cashier area, which was in an awkward area and didn't allow staff to have the room they needed. The overall design of the restaurant could be better to help both customers and staff to have a better experience. That said, our food was pretty tasty. We had a mushroom/cheese omelet and their popular apple pancakes to share. Definitely on the heavier side though, especially since portions were giant, so we had leftovers which is always nice. Our server (I can't remember her name) was super attentive and kept it coming with our many cups of coffee, which was much appreciated after having a busy weekend with a baby. Overall, definitely would make a visit back for an affordable, convenient, and tasty brunch choice. 3.5 stars

Yelp
We decided to try Richard Walker's on a Sunday morning, hearing nothing but fabulous things about the place from several friends. Stood in line outside for about 10 minutes until we were finally seated inside, at a very small booth, next to the kitchen and other tables crammed into a small space where servers and waitstaff ran past constantly. We couldn't block this chaotic scene out as my husband ordered a Mushroom Omelet that was overcooked with an unsavory Mushroom Sauce on the side. I looked forward to Corned Beef Hash, which typically has lots of potatoes/fresh corned beef, not here! I received a plate with smashed corned beef & potatoes in one "pancake" with eggs on the side. Also, we both got Wheat toast that was cold & tasted like cardboard on the side. Between the noise, the baby booth and the subpar food, we won't be coming back anytime soon. Easy to pay $50- for better options most places in Carlsbad.

Yelp
I ate here a couple years ago while visiting from Phoenix and had been wanting to come back with my fam ever since. If I lived in California I'd eat here allatime. The baked apple cinnamon pancakes are tah dah as are the eggs Benedict. Friendly staff, yummy (the food not the staff), and clean. It's not IHOP so don't get mad if you have to wait a bit - walk around the very nice shopping center and burn off some pre-pancake calories.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food, amazing service! The omelette was simple, fluffy and tasty. We also got the chilaquiles verdes and wow! Tangy and spicy! Our waiter was so kind and attentive. Will come again soon!
google avatar

Vivian R.

Yelp
Food was perfect. We had the apple pancake and the Santa Fe Omelette. Both were huge and delicious. The apple pancake was an upside down german pancake (Dutch Baby) with apple cinnamon yumminess. No syrup or butter needed on this pancake! We ate on the outside patio with my daughter's dog. So cute, they have a DOG MENU!!! Koa had doggy scrambled eggs served in a dog bowl. He also got ice water! Koa gives 10 stars and 4 paws up (he'd give more but that's all he has). Good dogs are welcome and spoiled here!! Service was friendly, prompt and excellent. We will be back again and again!

Yelp
I enjoy coming here and often come during quiet hours with my laptop to get some work done. The service is pleasant, professional and fast. The food is good. The giant pancake dessert thing is incredible and definitely a must try at least once- it's definitely an experience. I love the breakfast burrito too. Definitely recommend that one. The atmosphere is quiet and calm most of the time, and average lively during busy hours. Great patio outside, and plenty of parking.

Yelp
I was visiting my friend in socal and she recommended this spot! The ambiance was darker woods, homey vibes with a nice patio. The service was just wonderful, every staff member was extremely kind and had a smile on their face. We sat on the patio on a friday around noon. I was thrilled to come here because i love pancakes, especially chocolate chip! They serve the pancakes with a side of whip cream, must be their specialty. I had high hopes for them, since they looked like the ones from the original pancake house in poway, but to be honest, they were a bit of a let down. They were on the drier side and could've used some moisture. I'm sad because this is a pancake house and i was expecting them to be amazing. Otherwise, the staff, cleanliness and vibes were pretty good! I'd defs go back, maybe next time the pancakes will be better :)

Yelp
Awesome service and the food was amazing. I recommend trying the thick sliced bacon if you like bacon. Not a big pancake lover but we did enjoy the apple baked pancake strudel. Overall awesome and we will come back very soon. Elizabeth served us as she did a wonderful job.

Yelp
Service is great...that's it. Not to sound like some lame yelper but the ambience is BRUTAL. i'm not talking about loud music, you're basically inside the kitchen and every 10 minutes someone pours all dishes into the sink at once. It's like when you can hear someone accidentally breaking something in the kitchen and the restaurant gets all tight but it happened 4 times while I was "dining". It's super loud and distracting but who cares right? How's the food? You ever heard of Denny's?? It's that but 2x the price. Hey man, if there was a competition for the most average pancakes ever made, this one would be up there. I don't want to sound dumb here but this place simply wasn't good. Good service, Jordan is awesome...I wish the pancakes tried harder to be like Jordan. For god sake please don't give me a side dish plate for 17 dollar pancakes...thanks !!

Yelp
We ate outside and we sat next to a guy with his pooch. Fun morning. Our server was attentive and the food was really good. We tried several items for our party of 4. Definitely will be going back next time we're down here.

Christina S.

Yelp
This is my 2nd time here for breakfast and both times have truly been a horrible experience. To say the food is nasty would be kind. I have no idea how this place is still open or how it's a chain. I have tried the baked omelet, the eggs Benedict and eggs and bacon plate and all have been so bad. The pancakes were edible and mediocre at best. The prices are hefty so you are better off anywhere else.
google avatar

Yelp
I am not sure why this place has the 3 stars honestly I see 3 stars and want to try it out. Well good we did! Omg so Good, service was top notch food was so yummy and just enjoying the patio area made it extra special. Yes a bit pricey, but now a days what isn't. If I enjoy it then I don't care what I pay. Please give yourself a chance to try it out and hopefully you enjoy it.

Farmer B.

Yelp
Food was good, service was good, we ate outside under some heat lamps which was great for us having a 2yo inside dining can be a little stuffy. The only downside is the pricing. Be prepared to pay $7.50 for juices and $4.50 for coffees. The portions were perfect size, fruit was fresh, we didn't order kids plate since it was $10 -$13 and she only ate some off our plates and they were super understanding. We left a 15% tip and had some fruit and sides to go back to the hotel with. Overall not a dine on a budget but great experience

Yelp
Been to the La Jolla spot. Glad to see this place open in Carlsbad. Lots of parking, roomy inside and tables outside. There were 9 of us in the group and they seated us quickly. Alberto was our excellent, friendly server. He was attentive and very funny. My favorite is their blueberry pancakes. Just the right amount of blueberries to compliment the butteriness of the pancake. Corn beef hash is good also. Hash browns cooked perfectly, crispy. Coffee is good. Alberto came around multiple times to keep it warm and full. Good food and excellent service. Coming here again.
google avatar

Belle Z.

Yelp
Expensive but undeniably delicious pancake spot. Think original Pancake House, but upper crust. It has the German and apple pancakes, as well a host of other griddle specialties and egg dishes. The beverages are quite pricey, but when you order juices here, they are either fresh squeezed or deluxe product. The service has always been great and while the decor is pretty typical and basic, it's very clean. If you have money to burn on breakfast and love a pancake, this is a place for you.
google avatar

Patricia U.

Yelp
First off, I LOVE Richard Walker's Pancake House. Sadly, I didn't feel this way about this location. We were seated in the patio with several folks with 3 dogs, including a shedding Husky. His fur flew by our plates of food. Bleck! Even the waitress seemed perturbed as it lay in her way to the other patrons tables. The owner took no notice whatsoever. The other dogs were smaller, short haired and well beahaved I love dogs but I think restaurants should have a specific area for patrons and their pets. As it is, this particular patio is small, so maybe it can be split between dog owners and other non pet owner patrons. Btw, our breakfast was perfect, service impeccable and location was great.

Veronica C.

Yelp
Very poor quality and presentation of food! We went on a Monday morning it was not busy at all. I order the green chilaquiles with scrambled eggs, My husband order the huecos rancheros. The eggs on the chilaquiles were still raw I can see the liquid coming out. I send them back mentioning to the server that I find not want them over cook all I ask for was to be dry. When I got back my plate after 5 minutes the eggs were completely over cook brow!! And the bottom were the chilaquiles where it was so cold and saggy. They did not bother to re make the whole plate. It was very unpleasant and not appealing at all. I left everything. On the other hand the huevos rancheros that my husband ordered the tortillas on the bottom were very very hard or over fried. He was not able to enjoy his meal too. It is very sad to see this kind of food quality when the place is super expensive. I don't think no one cares about us as customers. I'm not coming back that is for sure.

Yelp
When you travel to the many areas of Sand Diego you will find one of the best restaurants that some of the best breakfast with the big Size Included and the freshest Ingredients. There are some of the places that prepare ingredients from the box when you come to a place that includes the great tastes of the state of Oregon. With smoked bacon and the large eggs with best egg dishes from the way there made with the best ingredients. From the many restaurants that I have visited finding precooked sausage and the frozen waffles tossed in the toaster. Richard Walker restaurants takes it one step further with the greatest pancake creations the baked apple pancake that is piled with apples and brown sugar. I tried one before that took me most of the morning with a side of scrambled eggs and freshly made sausage the best in flavor. Robert walkers is one that has the best customer service that welcomes you like a family having servers which can be the best to choose the many dishes from the baked to the egg dishes and the sweet pancakes. You never go empty when you come to the restaurant you will leave with a doggy bag with a little something extra. As a Yelp Elite Reviewer the many great dishes they have on the menu with the best coffee and the pancakes that have you come back for more . For the food and the ambience that makes the greatest time with the morning gatherings you can bring your family and friends .

Yelp
Oh man, this is my new favorite place for breakfast. The menu is great, but I'm completely addicted to the baked apple pancake. It's as if an apple fritter and a buttery croissant had a baby. They keep your coffee cup full, and the staff is SUPER friendly and attentive.
google avatar

RC R.

Yelp
Still a good place for breakfast. At least the wait is much less than the one in downtown San Diego. We always enjoy the hearty baked apple pancake.

Yelp
First time I tried this restaurant. The restaurant was nice, easy parking, great customer service and the foods were pretty good, very big portion if pancake . One thing that make me didn't give max 5-stars because of their flexibility in the ingredients of their omelette. One of the options for their omelette was Mushroom Omelette that have mushroom, tomatoes, onion and broccoli. At first I would love to try this one but I have allergy with Onion, so I asked if I could remove Onion and replace by Spinach instead, the waitress told me the could remove ingredients out for me but they will charge me extra if I add something in, in this case, I will be charge extra if I want to replace Spinach for Onion ... really?! So I had to choose Mediterranean Omelette instead that still have Onion that I had to remove, and has Olives that I don't really like to eat much, but at least still have Spinach and Tomatoes for my choice of veggie. While in other restaurant I could choose my own choice of ingredients without additional charge for replacing items, I couldn't experience that option here.

Yelp
We had the perfect father-daughter breakfast! Split the famous apple pancake and a traditional Benedict, both were so yummy! Nikki was really sweet and took great care of us:). They played classical music on the speaker which was a plus as a music major. Would come again!

Yelp
I love this restaurant (very similar menu to The original pancake house) Unique very tasty foods!! And Maddie did a great job serving and educating!!

Felice B.

Yelp
Very delicious, solid breakfast of eggs exactly as ordered, tasty link sausage and hot, crispy hash browns. Son had a grilled chicken sandwich that had plenty of thin sliced/fanned out avocado that he thought was great. Very reasonable pricing, very good service, inside/outdoor seating in plenty. Totally solid! Can't wait to go back and try something new!

Yelp
I can't remember where my last AMAZING breakfast was but this one definitely is! Every single part of our experience was superb! This is one of the restaurants that was open during the pandemic closure for food delivery. I remember loving the food back then and wanted to make sure to eat here in person. As we got here there was a small line ahead of us but it went be very quickly. The lovely lady that seated us was welcoming and very pleasant with us and everyone in the line. They knew we had our pup with us and when we got to our table, there was a bowl of ice water at our table for our pooch. This meant more to us than we could express. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Quite honestly with this kind of service, I will definitely be back regularly and that menu had so many options, we got to try them all! We got... Coffee - the best coffee we've had in a long time. Scrambled eggs with bacon and hash browns were delicious! Crepes with Strawberries came with a yummy orange sauce which made it taste kind of like Crepes Suzette. We LOVED it! If I could give more than five stars, I would! Everything about this restaurant was amazing! I can't wait to come back soon! Bravo to the employees and management for this wonderful experience! Best service and BEST food!

Yelp
Server was very short & unhelpful, we had to constantly ask his coworkers for condiments refills ect. They had their patio heaters on high while it was 75* outside, asked if they can turn them off and the waiter ignored the request. They charged $5 for 3 small slices of banana on the kids meal, and when we asked about it was told "that's how Mr. Walker does it". Asked for sourdough bread and received white toast.... Just all around poor service.
google avatar

Sharon D.

Yelp
Had a really unpleasant experience here. Our order was not delivered correctly with a wrong omelet provided and sausage served for plain pork links was jalapeño flavored. Not what I ordered and not my jam esp with pancakes . Server seemed skeptical and initially went away to "ask chef" and came back and said I must be mistaken. The meal was over but when I invited him to try one, he offered to provide a fresh order. I dropped it , but told him to just take them off my bill. Server was slow to serve coffee, take order, and slow to solve a problem. Will not be back probably. I hate really indifferent or bad service, much less served with attitude. At best we felt ignored! Definitely not pleasant.

Yelp
we stopped in with the whole family and the first thing we noticed is how nice everyone was, as well as attentive. These folks really appreciate their customers. They serve breakfast all day which was great for my kids, but not so much for me. I was expecting more choices for lunch, but do understand their concept. Overall the place was very clean, the food was fairly priced and my kids ate everything... all one can ask.
