This is a gem spot for ingredients be you a baker or cook , however be sure double check the produce and perishable items. I needed pandan leaves for a recipe and while I did find them unfortunately they were pretty rotten and I had to opt for frozen. Great snacks, beverages , and quick meals you can reheat but I got some fish cakes that were expired and moldly😔. Someone told me time of day is important as this was at night when I went but at the same time nothing rotting should be out . Only giving 3 stars since I needed hard to find items. Staff were still friendly .

This is a neat little shop with great prices on seafood but buyer beware! I bought two dungeness crabs on ice and cooked them that night. They both looked great! One was completely rotten inside, it stank like rot, and the meat in the entire crab was spoiled. The second crab was excellent. At a 50% quality rate, I will not return here. $7/lb becomes $14/lb when half the meat is rancid. :(

I love browsing their freezer section — it’s packed with unique items and colorful packaging that really stands out. Spotted a few familiar brands I enjoy, like Chuon Chuon (Dragonfly), which is always a nice surprise. Great local spot if you're looking to stock up on tasty and creative Asian treats!

A very nice establishment. It can be difficult finding all of the east asian food items you need in one place, but I guarantee New May Wah has it. Not only do they have what you're looking for, they have it for a good price. I had been looking for a specific drink for months with no luck, until I wandered in here, and they've got it. I would definitely recommend shopping here.

This is the third time I’ve experienced incorrect pricing at this store. The price at checkout did not match the price clearly listed on the shelf, and this time the staff refused to honor the listed price. Instead, they claimed that another customer must have switched the sign, which is not a reasonable explanation or the customer’s responsibility. Regardless of how the mistake happened, the store should honor the posted price or at least handle the situation professionally. Being blamed as a result of “another customer” is frustrating and unacceptable. Repeated pricing issues make it hard to trust shopping here.

It has a very large selection of Asian groceries and fresh meat, fish and vegetables at decent prices. Customer service is lacking with very dirty baskets and rude casiers.

I visit this supermarket about every other week, and there's a lot of things that are great about it - it has an extensive offering of various asian products (chinese, thai, vietnamese, filipino, etc), the pricing is amazing, they offer uncommon vegetables (gailan, etc) and fruit (lychee, etc). However, my caveat is for seafood and meat it's not always the greatest quality. Sometimes it's totally fine, but last weekend we bought mussels, brought them home immediately, and disappointingly, about half had broken shells or were wide open. I tried tapping the open mussels but mostly I had to discard the mussels.

I've been here multiple times in the past, as I've gone through a few phases of drinking a specific type of soda that isn't sold many places (it's Japanese). Today I wanted to make a specific type of candy that called for Agar agar powder, I didn't have to call before coming, I knew they'd have it, and they did! Of course I also grabbed a ton of snacks, this place has an abundance of selection! It was incredibly busy at the time that my partner and I went, and the lines were halfway down the aisles, but the lines moved along fairly quickly! This spot can be a little overwhelming and overstimulating but if you can manage to push through the noise and visual stimulus of all the colors and languages, it's got some fantastic stuff to choose from and try out! The staff was friendly and helped to move everyone along at an easy pace.

Very disappointed. -Expired products (4 months past) -Poor management -Produce is not fresh (wilted and rotting with mold) -Cramped aisles They should just slash their prices and advertise as a discounted store selling items that belong in the garbage.

WASH any produce you buy here. Yesterday, I saw one of the workers pick up blueberries that fell on the floor and put it back in the container and back in the stack. Myself and another woman just watched in shock. Management would not hear it. I've shopped here for years and I am so disappointed to see this.

I like this place because it's an easy one-stop shop with a really good selection of Asian, especially Chinese ingredients. All the ingredients for any Chinese meal I make can pretty much be found here. I mean the selection is really vast. And though it's not as large as a chain Asian grocery store like 99 Ranch, it's a still a good size. They definitely utilize every inch of space here, lol. One thing though is as much I like to cook with fresh rice noodles, I typically don't buy them here. They usually seem kind of hard (should be fairly soft if they're sold soon after they're made). The fresh vegetable section is good. Service can be inconsistent, but the owners/managers are helpful. Parking is difficult and no fun, especially on weekends.

When I say I go to the Richmond to shop at the markets I do not mean the city of Richmond but in the city of San Francisco . Clement street has good food all around and this Supermarket has great fresh fruits of all kinds. You will find good pricing for fruits at this location.

Very rude and unhelpful staff. The woman at the cash register was rolling her eyes. It's as if they're doing us a favor by letting us shop there.

No Return, No Exchange even with receipt and unopened products! I bought a few of these packages of frozen "steamed pork buns" and frozen "beef baked buns". I opened one of each, prepared per the instructions and the "shredded pork" that is in the steamed buns looked more like a round breakfast Jimmy Dean pork patty, only darker! Not like shredded pork we're used to seeing in burritos, it's weird! The "baked beef bun" - I was expecting stew beef or similar but no, it looked more like again, a darker version of a round Jimmy Dean breakfast pork pattie. AND these packages I saw on the receipt were $10.30 each for 10 pieces, so a dollar and a few cents each, for this "questionable" meat? Weird! I drove back and returned the other unopened items, and they apparently do not to any returns, exchanges or refunds. Nope. So friends, stick to going to Trader Joe's for these kind of things, or Safeway, or Lucky, or Grocery Outlet because they all back up their products and honor a return. Go to this May Wah place for only candies. That is my recommendation for everyone. I threw all the other stuff in the garbage because I cannot make myself eat them. See pictures.

Bad customer service. Over charged my items and still giving attitude when I told the cashier. I would never come back to this supermarket.

Beware of cross-contamination. This store is incredibly dirty. Hello, food safety inspector? I picked up a package of rice noodles and grease was dripping from the bottom. Not sure why because grease isn't an ingredient. I asked three employees for paper towels and they said they didn't have any. Kept on saying, "Next". Either they are really cheap and don't want to give customers paper towels, or their store really is dirty and they never clean it with anything, so that's why they don't have paper towels. I did see a dirty old rag they used to clean the counters, but it was covered in stains. Looks like it belongs in the auto mechanic shop, not a grocery store.

I just called this place to ask if they have the item I want in stock. The old lady boss picked up the phone I think, I asked politely if they have that specific item in stock, you know what she said? She answered "you come here to the store and check if we have it here." WTH WTH?! I called to check is because I Dont want to come all the way here if you don't have it. But if you confirm you do have it then I will do the drive here. That's what the phone call was about! That was why I'm calling. That was why you listed your phone number is for people to call to ask questions, right?! SO SUPER LAZY WITH ATTITUDE! I dont get it. Whats so difficult to check, it's just right behind the register counter. Bird nest gift set to be exact! RUDE!!!!

Expired products still kept on shelves for sale when I review this place 6 years ago and based on Crystal T's review recently, the store still kept the old ways of conducting business. If the customers don't check, that's their fault. It is inconvenient to just return back for expired products attitude. Greed at its best

Normally I would have given it 3-4 stars just for the great varieties of produce and food products. But after today??? I used to shopped here often but after today it makes me think twice. Buyers please BEWARE and check your product for EXPIRATION DATES. Apparently they don't pull the expired product off the shelves and us customers are paying the price!??? How unscrupulous. I just bought this item this morning..... The said product printed on the cap Mfg: 09/Jun/2020. Exp: 09/Jun/2022......

Decent Chinese/Asian grocer to find specific food items if you want to support a local business vs. a chain. It's two shop-spaces big with fair selection of fresh produce and dried pantry goods. They pack it in tight though so finding stuff can take a while. Pay attention to expiry dates and refrigeration. My kimchee tasted mushier than usual which I suspect is due to inconsistent refrigeration. Still plenty of options for sauces and noodles. Plus points for accepting credit cards - a rarity for small ethic grocers like this.

I can't say enough good things about this Asian supermarket! They have everything you need. A huge variety of fresh vegetables, meats, seafood, dried goods, noodles, spices, I can go on and on. Prices are reasonable. I shop here just about every weekend.

Please double check before putting on the shelf for selling. Is has been expired since 11/25/2022!

Their market delivery truck was backing up to park; I honked. To warn the truck driver since it was so close to my car, however, the driver ignored all my honking and kept on backing his truck in! So close that it almost hit the side of my car! I came inside the store and checked in with one of the cashiers and asked the cashier to tell the store delivery truck driver to move so I can get out by the time we would be done shopping at their store. Nothing was done afterwards. I came out trying to maneuver to get out but in vain! I asked the driver to move up so I could get out but ended up in a loud verbal altercation with the driver and his assistant ! They argued that they were in their lanes and mine was in mine! And profusely refused to move forward. They told me I had to wait until they would be done! They were wrong since they should not park their truck there in the first place; that meter is not yellow marked ; it's for regular cars to park, Not for trucks to park! The store person should have done something before the verbal altercation occurred!

They don't wait on nonAsian customers. They do their very best to ignore you in line and then take Asian customers who came after you first. This has happened twice. Second trip when I finally asked why they didn't take me, they laughed and said "we didn't see you" while laughing and winking to each other. Hope others have better experience

I have been trying to eat more plant based lately but am really missing all the cantonese & Vietnamese dishes I grew up eating. I decided to browse New May Wah & to my surprise they have a large section of vegetarian and vegan meat substitutes. 4 stars because it's a little dirty in there. They have a large selection of many different types of asian cuisines as well.

Absolutely 100% miss this place every time I have go grocery shopping - which is several times a week. Located way out there in the Sunset, this place was a staple for me for years and since moving from SF has left a hole in my heart. Particularly scarring is their seaweed salad, wrapped up in the coolers off to the right. No where in the world d prices match these - I can never recover from New May Wah spoiling me with their amazing deals. STOP IN. Enjoy the amazing variety of fruit, snacks, meats, and premade foods at killer prices - you won't find better.

I love New May Wah for their variety of Asian groceries from Thai Curries to a great selection of rice and everything in between. I shop here regularly as it is in my neighborhood. Despite being a regular customer that spends a fair amount of my monthly grocery budget here, they are always so unfriendly and ungrateful for my business. I don't think I've ever heard a checker say thank you for your purchase. I really do have other options that actually appreciate my business. For that matter, I could just shop at Amazon and get the same stuff.

Double and triple check your receipts before you leave! I thought it happening once or twice was just an honest mistake but I'm really starting to think it's on purpose now. It's not a lot of money but it's the principal. My last visit they double charged me for garlic at $2.99 and I was already home before I noticed. I had 39 items on my receipt and the garlic showed up on the 5th and 10th line item. Another time it was another item. On my last visit they didn't charge me for 3 bags so I'm not super mad, but still. Also I'm not sure if it was just that day but they started to use the same compostable bags for their produce to bag their meats!!! Can go imagine getting ribs in those extremely thin compost bags? Too flimsy and needless to say had ripped through the bags when I got home.

Yesterday, I went to buy groceries here. Unfortunately some of the veggies were not in the best condition. The mini sweet peppers were growing moldy in their bags! I have shopped here before and I find that this supermarket offers the best price for coconut milk. There are a lot of Asian products so more than likely, you can find the ingredients you need to make Asian dishes.

I found all the Indonesian products that I've been looking for! Much better prices than amazon or online, this supermarket have Everything that I've been looking for. All South East Asian ingredients from Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines are here! They have butcher and produce sections too as well as seafood Department! Great prices. If you love to cook and you love South East Asian food, come here. This is your candy store.

Oh my! Everything I ever wanted, I will get from this place! Staffs here are helpful. Always looked at the expiration date before you buy, go pay and done..happy! I still don't know what people expect from this place or you can go to whole food to get a better customer service and high quality products! Lol!!!!!

Went there today to get my Asian food. It turns out the lady at the cashier says they only accept CASH There were no signs stating it was now a CASH only establishment. So I left, leaving all my groceries at her register

I feel like I've been followed around this market the last three times I've been there. The last time I was there, one of the owners followed me out to my car and yelled at me to return the cart! This is after I dropped about $200 on groceries for work. Just for the record, I was going to return the cart! I used to really enjoy the experience of shopping here but it changed in the last 5 years. I'm not a fan anymore.

I just came from New May Wah, after trying to no avail to get them to give me a refund for a product I bought without looking too closely: a bag of pumpkin seeds with the expiration date of 2019! 2023 is on its way out! These things were four years old! They gave me grief, but I gave it back. After telling them repeatedly that I wanted my money back, they agreed to a store credit: LIKE I WANT TO BUY ANOTHER SINGLE THING FROM THEM. I don't think you can choose zero stars on Yelp, or I would. New May Wah on Clement between 8th and 9th are AWFUL.

Honestly, I find any excuse to shop here when I'm in the area. I like my shopping quick, efficient, full of variety, and a small tinge of mystery. (Do I really need all these snacks?) One time, I found a killer stash of tomatoes (even though it wasn't tomato season), 5 lbs of Thai basil (I only needed 1), and some ready-made dumpling wrappers. Since I was there, and I'd only been in for barely a minute at that point, I grabbed some tea, dried noodles, and resisted the urge to get a canister of Milo. Milo!! I also found a secret stash of Mexican spices that I didn't need but that I mentally bookmarked for later. Learn the layout on your first visit so you too can be one of the efficient-as-heck shoppers here. It's not jostling - it's tactical shopping maneuvers that we're all doing. Plus, in these times of covid, it's like bumper-less bumper cars but with people and groceries. And when you get in line (moves pretty fast), you can watch the action in peace. On my last visit, I didn't find great tomatoes BUT I did find just the right size of pickled radishes that I didn't need but got anyway. AND, I can pay with my phone. Woo!

There are a lot of different kinds of Asian foods in this store. I can find out the rare Asian foods easily in here and the others don't have. I love this store.

Be careful when you are at the checking out. For accuracy at the register. Sadly had to put this review for new and regular customers to be cautious of cashiers making mistakes at the register. This morning, the female customer who was in front of me had to get a refund because the cashier made a mistake on her purchases. I had the same cashier but gave her the benefit of the doubt that it was a minor error. Came home and realized she also had overcharged me. She had doubled on the Boba Taro Latte at home that I was excited to try out. I, honestly do not want to walk eleven blocks back to the store to get an adjustment. I am pretty disappointed because I am a regular customer and continually go to this location even though it is further. But maybe I should try my business elsewhere.

May Wah is a staple Asian supermarket in the neighborhood. I find food items like shirataki noodles, Kewpie mayonnaise, and family packs of instant noodles are decently priced here. There's a wide selection of different types of Korean ramyeon noodles. I would definitely check the expiry dates on the items. I have noticed that they seem to take note of what is trendy since I see Korean konjac jelly drinks on the shelves now. You can find Asian ingredients in bulk sizes like certain sauces and oils. If you're looking for pandan leaves, you could probably find them in the frozen section.

I love that this supermarket is still up and running during quarantine. Although it is mainly an Asian supermarket, you'll be surprised by their wide selection of items. I've been cooking and baking up a STORM lately, and New May Wah has almost everything I need. If there are any items missing in my list, I'll usually head over to Walgreens a couple doors down (i.e. orange juice) or to some corner markets on 6th and 10th (both Clement and California have corner markets on these streets). Some items I've found at New May Wah that I've been pleasantly surprised by are quinoa, chia seeds, almonds, shelled walnuts, pasta noodles, and kale. I don't know why, but these are items I did not expect New May Wah to have. Not to mention the prices are great. Random fact, but the baking powder they sell here is single acting baking powder because a lot of Vietnamese desserts rely on single acting baking powder, as opposed to double acting which is the more commonly used type of baking powder. I will admit I do not like that their chicken and fish are just "up for grabs" (just does not feel sanitary to me), but I will also mention that I've eaten salmon and chicken from New May Wah and I have not gotten sick or anything lol. Their meat is pretty standard but keep in mind you won't find some cuts of meat they you'd normally find at Western markets like ground turkey or ground chicken. You'll have to sub for ground beef or pork. I love that the wait is never super long here. I've seen the line wrap around the corner and it looks long but I've never had to wait more than 15 minutes to get in. They are implementing a 30-person capacity in the market.

Please do NOT shop here. I have shopped here many times before and each time I get home I realize that a few of the items I had just purchased have expired months ago. I end up having to toss them out and wasted my money. This has happened to me many times shopping here and again today 7/14/2022 (see receipt and pictures attached). I would NOT recommend shopping here unless you like to spend money on expired goods. I won't be going back to request for a refund because their cashiers are extremely rude to begin with and they will for sure argue with me and give me a hard time about it.

Buyers beware! They sell stall meat! Bought a piece of pork from their meat counter at 12:30 today, straight to my fridge after 5 minutes drive. It's 6 pm and time to cook. The piece of pork looks pale and smells stale. Going straight to my compose!

This place is a wonderland. IMO it's worth a special trip if you're a city resident just to explore the range of Pan Asian culinary cultures. Every aisle has so many variations and what looks like niche exotic hard to find ingredients that I can only presume remind someone of home or takes one to a new place. In a year without travel, there is definitely new world to explore in a different way, right here in the city.

Love, love, love this market! It's a bit crowded, a bit dirty, a bit brusque, but hey - that's pretty standard for most Chinese markets... and I like to be mindful of the alternatives when writing my reviews. (I'm also half Chinese, so maybe I'm used to it, haha.) What makes May Wah stand out for me is the selection - I live in South Beach, so I've sadly resigned myself to the markets in Chinatown, which are even more crowded, dirty, and brusque. I came to this market with my ex to satisfy my craving for grass jelly... and lo and behold, they had a whole half-aisle of jellies to choose from. :P I also noted that they had ingredients (like canned bittermelon, various dried goods) and a wider selection that I'm just simply not used to seeing, even after living in Daly City and San Jose and frequenting the Ranch 99's there. They have a large meat and produce section as well. If I lived in the area, this would most certainly be my go-to Asian market.

I adore this store! First of all, you're missing a trick if you buy your fresh fruit and veg anywhere else--every time I've been I've walked out with bags full of produce and it's always about half I would have expected to pay elsewhere. (I only wish they delivered, or I'd use them more often!) Secondly, it's *the* place to go for all the niche and specialized products you need to create more authentic, delicious Asian cuisine. There are aisles and aisles of sauces, condiments, spices, carbs, treats, snacks, and beyond to stock your pantry with. Nevermind the amazing range of fruits, mushrooms, veggies, and so on that you just can't find in a regular supermarket. I've always found the quality great--fresh and long lasting produce--and love finding new-to-me snacks and things to try. Staff are helpful and lovely too. All round fave.

Great selection. But terrible customer service. Asian guys working at meat and seafood department are very rude! I asked for a pound of shrimp. He threw me a green bag and seafood juice flew all over my jacket. Said "yourself" i'm assuming help yourself. Never in my life have i been treated like that. The cashiers have no personality and look so miserable. Pls bring some joy to your customers! If it wasn't for us you wouldn't be in business!

If you love to cook, this is a Chef's dream. Richmond districts largest Chinese supermarket where you can find fresh live crab, fresh fish, cheap bones for soup, hard to find Asian ingredients, and a large assortment of Chinese vegetables. Be prepared to fight through the crowds and long lines in the afternoon. The isles are narrow, it's bustling, and the shelves are jammed packed. You may also want to wear a parka, because every time I come here, I'm freezing! Parking is challenging on Clement St. The meter maids come by often, so make sure you have ample change for the meter. It's better to come early in the morning if you want to beat the crowds and find a spot out front.

It's a little grocery shop in San Francisco where all of sudden you're a bit away from the bridge and you're in a shop that comes out of the old dregs of a Chinatown past... I'm referencing old NYC, and this place was sticky and old and reminded me of a grocery that doesn't get a ton of activity on the back of the 1&9 Tonnelle Drive (despite it actually having lines and being busy) and a facade that hasn't been refreshed in years. Many fruits and vegetables were dry and unappetizing, and many things on the shelves you need to check the date of expiry (could be close if not expired). It's cheap, yes, but there are better options. Find your way to a 99 Ranch or similar. Service- pretty much nonexistent. You're not here for the service, though. You can find some basics and some canned/bottled goods here that are useful for sauces and cooking, but I'd go elsewhere for fresh meat & produce. Metered parking on the street.

TWO STARS for this review due to bad behavior , lousy customer service. On a busy Saturday, i dashed into this supermarket because they do have a great selection of Asian groceries, meats and vegetables. The prices are not the best compared to smaller Asian grocery stores but it's nice to go to a place with one stop shopping. Very convenient. With a cart loaded to the brim with noodles, Asian spices, vegetables , seafood and a ton of meat.. I stood in the socially distanced line. It was fine waiting approximately 10 -12 minutes to get to the cashier. I met nice people in line and we chatted about food.:) This is why I gave a two star review: I had the car parked right outside... 8 feet from the store's front door. After unloading a ton of groceries from the CART. Ooops I forgot to purchase some other items so I grabbed a BASKET right on the sidewalk to load up with fruits displayed on sidewalk bins and a few refrigerated items. Yes, my basket was heavy and very full . After waiting in line the second time, the cashier started emptying items, ringing up each one and placing items on the counter. After the last item was taken out of the basket and rung up , I was ready to place items back into my basket . The cashier swiftly took the basket and placed on the floor instead of leaving on the counter for me to load up the fruits etc... she promptly demand 25 cents for each bag to put my items in. I told her I got the basket outside and I will return it at that stack of baskets where it came from after I unload it in my car in front. She adamant demanded money instead. That was crazy! It's not the cheap quarter but her off putting bad mannerism and unladylike like attitude. Especially since she knew it was my second time around within a few minutes. She intentionally made it difficult for me so that I pay for plastic bag when other people were able to do so. Very bad. Very targeted. Shame on you! TWO STARS

This place is good for some stuff, in particular things that can't spoil. But think twice about getting anything from the fridge. I have a feeling they turn it off at night, or maybe just keep rotten food. This is maybe the 3rd time I have purchased packaged noodles to find that they were already going rotten when I opened them :(

#101/2016 Many brands of fish sauce and any other sauce you could possibly think of or a recipe would require, far beyond the common oyster and hoisin sauces which of course they have. One time I asked for Shaohxing wine and it became a debate among three women which brand I should buy and how much money I should spend. Extremely fresh vegetables including the hottest, inferno-level bird's eye chilis you will ever use in your cooking to take a dish like Pad Grapow to a whole new level. And once you cook with them, you won't be happy eating your dish without them. You'll wonder why you bothered at all. (I gave the real deal ingredients to my friend and she couldn't understand why her dish kept falling flat in successive attempts. Yep, the bird's eye chilis). Staff circulate throughout the store, stocking and stacking. They'll ask you abruptly "old or new?" when you inquire about ginger. Apparently the growing season produces different tastes. To make an authentic Asian dish, if you can't find it here you can't possibly need it. My advice is go there, preferably not on market day (Saturday), wade into the well-organized and well-stocked produce area inside or outside the store and grab what you need. Don't be shy, reach around people and prepare to be jostled (stand your ground, you'll get respect). Don't be afraid to ask for help. The meat department looks slightly suspect and I don't believe the temperature of the cases is high enough. That said, they had everything I needed to make the truest, most deeply-flavored pho (and no one got sick so I guess that's a health/safety pass for RNMW market!) As a result, I won't buy pho again because mine was so good and everything I needed I bought right here. Seriously, you've never had better. Though it had to simmer all day, it was worth it. More fresh Hong Kong, Shanghai, Korean, Taiwanese and Japanese noodles you'll need for any recipe. Jars and jars of exotic sauces to elevate your cooking from "American" to truly authentic Asian cuisine. Add in treats that while you can't translate the packaging, somehow your child can grab exactly what he wants and it's chocolate crackers and not teriyaki-flavored, dried baby crabs. I guess the pictures on the packages help. I like the brusque efficiency of the cashiers because by the time I stock my basket the claustrophobia of this store has me ready to leave. This market is a rush for any foodie or home cook who wants to push past Euro/American cuisine. This is one of my very favorite stores in San Francisco.

These people here act like they cannot speak English they tried to sell me some crab that was not good it was already rotten the inside of it was black but they try to be slick and make you pay for it before they cut it open because the food is not good please do not go here they take our money and try to give us bad food and it's not OK

Buyers beware! Make sure to check the purchase receipt before leaving the store to avoid being overcharged. Found out they'd charged me double for a single item only too late. Having now read some other reviews this seems to be a frequent occurrence.

Update- 1. Expired food on shelves 2. Pick pockets 3. Some of the women at the cash registers here are beyond RUDE! Sure, they have an awesome selection of groceries but you have to look at each and every expiration date of whatever you put in your basket! Some items are seriously expiring the next day!!! What's more GHETTO is that some of the produce that's labeled on the shelves as "#1 quality" are actually "#2 quality" when you look inside the interior label, which is illegal. As a result I've begun going to El Chico up the road for my fresh fruits! So, some of the checkers here have stopped bagging groceries for people!!! Seriously, WTF is this? Self checkout?! Not only do you have to navigate watching the register screen to make sure they're charging you the correct price for your groceries, you also have to manage paying for it while bagging your own stuff??? The other week I caught a woman trying to reach into my pocket as I was putting my wallet away while trying to tell the checker she had the WRONG price for my eggplants!!!! Be VERY, very careful here!!!! The royal shit on the shingle was today, when the checker took lip gloss out of her pocket and began putting makeup on while my groceries FREAKING just sat there, un-bagged. "Oh, do you need help?" She asked, while putting makeup on her non-existent/lizard like/razor thin lips. WTH do you think woman???!!! NO WHERE else is it acceptable to put makeup on while NOT helping customers, GEEZ!!! Come on May Wah!!!! You can do WAY better than that!!!! How about a little more CUSTOMER SERVICE??????????!!!!!!!!!! There's a half dozen OTHER stores within a half mile radius who sell the same EXACT stuff you do at the same, or lower prices. NO WONDER WHY PEOPLE ARE NO LONGER SHOPPING HERE!!!

I always came to this supermarket for grocery shopping before COVID hit, and I am glad to say that when I went there two weeks ago, it lived to my expectation for a store that cares for its customers in this unusual time. Just like Wholefoods or Safeway, it only allows a few people to enter the grocery store at the same time. The staff were all wearing masks, and the aisles did not feel unsafe despite the relatively cramped space, probably due to the low volume of customers in the store. I got two carts of fresh groceries with only $260, so I would really recommend this market to folks with a tighter budget.

My family has been shopping at this May Wah supermarket for years but in the past few months of 2022, I've heard negative comments about unavailability of certain items and particularly high prices! We all realize the inflationary curse hitting everyone these days, but May Wah's prices are higher compared with other nearby Asian grocery stores. So today I tagged along with my family and together we shopped at four different Asian stores on Clement St. and spent a total of $250. On availability, quality and freshness and pricing of produce, May Wah ranks low. They also don't accept credit cards and there was no explanation! On treatment of customers by their staff, I'd give them Double Zero! Frankly, I wouldn't want to shop there again!
