The 18 Best Breakfast Spots In Boston 2024

"For those mornings when you need a no-fuss, straightforward breakfast with great coffee, head to Rick’s 11A Cafe in South Boston. This tiny shop with four bar stools serves fresh muffins with a tender crumb and a mean breakfast wrap with kielbasa, homefries, and scrambled eggs—ask Rick himself to add some hot sauce in there, too. Grab a cold brew while you’re at it to keep your New England temperament frosty, no matter the season." - lala thaddeus

Google
This place is lights out 😂😂😂 Rick makes everything himself right in front of u, and it's all SO good!!! Free parking, easy to get to, and u can get everything from French toast to breakfast burritos with Kielbasa! He's got a deep menu with anything u want, and I'm shocked I haven't come here sooner. This place is a hole-in-the-wall, so there's not tables for 4, only some bar stools, but man is it worth it! Couldn't recommend this place more.

Google
Went here after a pilates class nearby. WOW. Got the “Rick-Fil-a” (he said he came up with the name himself) and it was delicious. Nothing better than a local cafe. Will be back because the breakfast looks delicious too.

I was running when I saw this cafe. The fries are so good and love the environment!

Google
Rick's Cafe. I call it the hole in the wall diner. It's a small lil place down an alley in south boston. He been there 40 years and nothing has changed except the door to get in. Great guy and foods is fantastic. Go show small business some love and if your In the area go see him. A very good menu and whatever you get will be unbelievable...

Google
You have to go to Rick’s! There’s no other place like it. The pancakes were incredibly fluffy. Everything was buttered to perfection. Will be back asap

Google
Rick is the man. Guy is one of the hardest workers I’ve run into around Boston. Coffee is Downeast which is awesome and he cooks a wide variety of breakfast and lunch items. All made to order. Not sure how he makes it all happen in a tiny spot. Go there if you’re in Southie.

Been going here the past couple of weeks on my way to work. Hidden gem if you ask me. The food and coffee is all good. Not much seating, but great for grab-n-go! I highly recommend the blueberry muffins and bagel sandwiches, yum 😋

Google
Arrived hungry and was delighted with the corned beef hash breakfast and coffee. That cookie was particularly great. Ate outdoors.

Yelp
I was in from out of town and looking for a breakfast wrap. I found this place on maps and decided to give it a try. Initially I had a hard time finding it and almost gave up. I am glad I didn't! I ordered the veggie egg wrap and it was excellent! Perfect ratio of everything and a great variety of veggies. I would definitely come here again. Oh and don't forget to grab a chocolate chip cookie. They're great too!

Yelp
Thanks Rick. That kielbasa egg and cheese is the Best Sandwich I have ever had. Flavorful

Yelp
Just started working across the lot from this joint, great little spot, tons of good offerings from baked goods to sandwiches, breakfast, coffee, and cooler beverages. Rick's a great guy and I'd reccomend the spot to anyone passing by, the turkey club is great, can't wait to try the breakfast items. Definitely stop by and support local small eateries such as this one.

Yelp
What can I say? Ricks is an old fashioned kick ass sandwich shop for your breakfast or lunch any day of the week. Rick rocks!

Yelp
Two words - KIELBASA WRAP. My company used to rent office space directly upstairs from Rick, and his kielbasa wrap and a giant coffee were my daily fix. Rick and Tina are also super personable and lovely people. Parking is a bit rough, as the lot out front is privately owned by the office park and permit-only, and Summer street is usually jam packed during the day, but you can easily get here by taking the 7 and getting off at Powerhouse St. Rick is one of the few grab and gos in the area that offer a 24 oz cup of coffee, which to me is a non-negotiable in my daily life.

Yelp
I found Rick's On a cold rainy morning. He cooked up an amazing wrap from his tiny little hole in the wall kitchen. The menu options all looked great. Ricks 11 a café is an amazing find. When back in Boston I will be sure to be back.

Yelp
Okay, why is this place so cute and tiny? I love it. Before I even ordered I knew it was going to be perfect. There are so many options and it's a little overwhelming considering how small it is in there! I stopped by before getting my hair done around the corner and was feeling breakfasty at 2pm, so I went for an egg wrap. I chose bacon, egg, avo, a little cheddar...with hot sauce. Wondering if I should have said yes to the home fries in there, too...probably. But. MAN, that thing was good. It just tasted fresh and simple and was so delicious. I was so sad to see homemade corned beef hash AFTER the fact. I definitely will be back to try that! There were also lots of lunch choices and they carry Downeast Coffee, too (hey, Pawtucket!). I'll for sure be back again!

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches at a family owned cafe. The service is outstanding with the sandwiches are well proportioned for the money being spent.

Yelp
Great spot and service. My man always cooking up the goods and giving my dog treats in the morning.

Yelp
Our first day's breakfast spot had great food, very friendly staff (including Rick). It's really a take-out place, but there are a couple of high bar seats inside and a couple of tables out on the sidewalk. The regulars in the area frequent this somewhat hidden gem which can be told by the constant and hilarious banter between the regulars and the staff. When down by the Cruise ship docks this is one of two spots to definitely eat at.

Yelp
Was working in the area, noticed a good amount of people in and out so I decided to check it out when I finished up working. Grabbed a coffee and a bacon, fried egg & cheese sandwich. Sandwich was great, coffee was great, service was friendly. Highly recommend, I will be back! Thank you Rick and keep up the great work!!!

Yelp
Was excited to try after these reviews but had a pretty subpar experience. Got a $11 steak egg and cheese wrap from Grubhub. No mention that there was home fries in the wrap on the description (which is something I don't prefer). Wrap arrived and you can see from the photo - it's basically all home fries. Please, Rick's, update the description so folks know what to expect

Yelp
Best lunch spot in Southie. Hands down. Go here. The menu selection is great, the food is fantastic, and there are always return customers here at lunch time. I have never been disappointed.

Yelp
This place is in the building of my office (just started a new job, woot!) and my co-workers recently told me they go there for quick take out lunches. Their advice was to avoid anything with chicken. Ok, I can do that. Ordered the special sandwich T.B.A. (turkey, bacon, avacado) and it was delicious. Seriously, it was like eating a sandwich my mom would make when I was a kid. Bread nice and toasted, fresh veggies (and I'm uber picky) and the perfect amount of mayo. I may still avoid the chicken per my friend's advice, but I'll be back for another sandwich pronto! TINY space with about 4 barstools for waiting to get your take out. I doubt you would want to eat there as it is just too small. Wide variety of breakfast and lunch options both hot and cold. I hear the chili is great. Surprised this place wasn't already reviewed as it was packed at 1:30 when I went to grab my food. All in all the food was great, the ambiance was meh (but who cares since you don't actually stick around) and the service was quick and nice.

Yelp
Tiny little spot, foods amazing, better than most sit down restaurants! They have vegetarian friendly options! I had the veggie egg wrap, so delicious, I finished every bite even though it was kind of huge! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for quick high quality food!

Yelp
Big fan of the breakfast sandwiches here, specifically the steak and egg. They also serve pretty good coffee as well. Very small, so can get crowded around breakfast and lunch time. Definitely recommend if you're in the area and need a quick something.

Yelp
I accidentally stumbled across a great breakfast and lunch spot today. Has tons of gluten free options, the staff is very friendly and their iced coffee is served in a big gulp! I would recommend this to anyone near the airport or South Bay healthy/ quality ingredients

Yelp
Corned beef hash, homemade loveliness. Wicked good man!! Avocado toast with egg and cheese. I also added bacon on the side. It was delicious! Staff was super friendly and accommodating. Seriously small place but we got a seat at the 4 top bar. The sun was shining and everyone was happy. I really like this place...

Yelp
Best Breakfast Burritos around you can't go wrong with anything you get here. Highly Recommend

Samantha C.

Yelp
Awesome place , quick and affordable yummy breakfast, they take card or cash and you can add avocado to anything .. not Mann spots around here do that for the price and convenience

Pam R.

Yelp
Rick and Tina make an incredable team. They are very friendly and the food is so good. My experience over all is 5****

Yelp
If you're in the neighborhood, you should come. A hidden gem. Good homemade diner food.

Yelp
Rick is the sweetest person and makes the best garden salads I've ever had. You can add chicken if you would like. He also makes nice breakfast sandwiches. He always remebers a face and when I worked in the area he always knew what I wanted. If you go there constantly it can definalty burn a hole in your pockets with the prices over time.

Yelp
Only Been to Ricks a few times even though I work upstairs. Its great though! The turkey, bacon avocado is the way to go. Always been a really quick turn around even when its packed.

Yelp
Open at 5 AM, Rick's is one of the best breakfast joints I've ever been to. Real, home-brewed coffee and delicious homemade breakfast. Rick is polite, courteous, and a great cook. Prices are fairly inexpensive, and I guarantee that you'll think dunkin donuts is a total ripoff after you visit Rick's. 100% recommended.
