Totally forgot to photograph before we ate. Exactly what we were looking for, a quaint little town diner. Good service and nice people, very attentive. I had the 2 egg breakfast scrambled with home fries, 2 biscuits and 3 strips of bacon. Biscuits were the best I’ve had, not dry and a good buttery taste. Bacon crispy but not rock hard. Eggs were smooth and delicious. Home fries are not my favorite anywhere, I prefer shredded hash browns, but these had descent flavor. I would have asked maybe for extra crispy personally. Hubby had The favorites breakfast with 2 sunny side up eggs, two sausage links, 2 bacon strips and 3 french toast triangles. The sausage links had great flavor and texture. The french toast was great. He enjoyed the whole breakfast and gobbled it up quickly.

This place is great for breakfast. A lot of people come here. The food was very good and well portioned.The atmosphere was pleasant and had a nautical theme to it, so there were lots of model ships and stuff around the room. The servers were very pleasant and attentive.

Friendly cafe with a laid back vibe and delicious food. Poutine, sour dough chicken salad sandwich, and okra were outstanding. We will definitely go back next time we visit the area.

To the California transplant waitress: THANK YOU for being so patient with us!!! First time ever having grits with my meal. Not what I expected but wow, I've been missing out the past 56 years!!!

Love, love , love the homey vibes of this place, very quaint with nautical theme. Service was top notch, I forgot the servers name, she has pink hair, and is the coolest, warmest, nicest person, I truly felt welcomed and taken care of. We got pick 5 topping omelette and bacon cheese burger, the food was really flavorful and satisfying. Please come and support this local gem.

From the moment we walked in we were greeted, with a smile, the staff was very friendly and attentive. We ordered our drinks and those were delivered almost immediately. They gave us a few moments to look over the menu and once we placed our order our food was to our table within about 8 to 10 minutes. Absolutely outstanding. Will definitely be back.

Had pulled pork (moist and good), biscuits and gravy, and French toast… home fries are a good hash brown substitute. Wife had the full omelette. All was wonderful!, great coffee too. Nice staff. Very reasonable prices.

I have eaten breakfast there before but this morning was not favorable. My pancakes were tough and I could not cut them. I had to tear them. Grits were cold My friend was not happy with her pancakes or eggs. Eggs were crIspy. Bad day for the cook. The waitress comp out drinks

I have been here twice and it is always good. Pancakes? Superb. Eggs? Delicious. The Paloma? Delightful. The waitresses are super nice, friendly and helpful if you have any questions about the menu (which is pretty straightforward). A simple diner serving great food and tasty beverages. No fuss no muss.

I have been here before but never posted a review - this one is from a visit on July 8th. We were here (as we have been) for a Geocaching event. There were about 25 of us, probably more, and despite it being during their Saturday evening dinner rush, all of our orders were correct, our drinks refilled in a timely manner, the staff friendly & our food was delicious and conservitely priced. I had the club sandwich with ham and bacon, fries, battered onion rings, fried okra and apple pie Ala mode. I love club sandwiches, and even though they are quite simple, Rick's was served hot, perfectly toasted, no bad ham cuts, fries crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside, onion rings that were sweet in their battered shell and fried okra that reminded me of mama's home cooked okra from my childhood memories. The only hiccup in my meal was the pie. The crust was so light that it appeared uncooked - no crispy pie shell and the apples felt too firm. Even with my dessert being a let down, I was happy enough to want to make a return visit.....and soon as they have BBQ ribs on the menu! Ps, they have menu prices that are better than fast food when you consider the amount of food that you get with each order. Home cooking almost as good as your mom's.

Great place! It's got that old-school diner vibe that I love and amazing breakfast food with big portions. I always get the omelette and let me tell you, definitely the best omelette ever. Plus, your coffee cup will never be empty.

We went on a Sunday morning around 10am. Fairly busy. First timers. It's seat yourself at this mom/pop place. Service was excellent. They were all over us as soon as we walked it. The food was really good and prices can't be beat. I would visit again without question. Nice job folks !

I had the Half-rack ribs with sweet potato fries and hush puppies. The fries and hush puppies were very good! Probably a 4.5/5 for both of them. But the ribs were relatively dry and were pretty tough and would probably get a 2/5 for those. The sandwich's that the table across from me got actually looked very good! The service was a bit slow, as we had to wait a bit to order and even longer for our ticket to get to the table. Environment seemed like a lot of retired people just having a good time!

Friendly waitress. The most beautiful whipped cream rosettes dressed the pancakes. My eggs and sausage were lovely as well.

Consistently great food! I have eaten her many times, and each time the food is excellent! My favorites are the French toast and sausage links- delicious! Eggs are cooked to perfection each time. Clean and quiet restaurant. Great food, great prices, and excellent service!

Ricks café might not look particularly attractive from the street as it is in a pretty nondescript strip mall. Kind of looks a bit industrial with dark windows. But when you go inside you'll be welcomed into a down home, local restaurant that is surprisingly spacious with lots of booths and tables. You won't feel crowded at Ricks. We visited Ricks several times over the last few months and it has become our favorite spot for breakfast. The home fries are particularly flavorful and fresh. The eggs are cooked to order, the pancakes are fluffy and delicious, and the bacon is above average. I recently had a biscuit with ham, Swiss cheese and scrambled egg and it was the best breakfast sandwich I've had - ever. Above all, the service is very friendly and they will always be coming around filling your cup with their great coffee. Ricks serves all kinds of comfort foods that we haven't tried yet: Fried catfish, Hickory smoked pulled pork, Louisiana style fried shrimp, hot wings, etc. etc. Great looking comfort food. I know we will be back to sample the rest of the menu!

I really like this place. If I lived closer I'd go more. A locals diner that serves good food! We had omelette that were cooked well. Love the sliced hash brown potato

The prices are great, the food is tasty with good portions and the service is always pleasant and quick.

Rick's Cafe Chef's should be directed to not over-salt. I could barely eat the Chicken Fried steak and gravy because of over-salting (and I'm a salt lover). Let the customer salt according to their tastes. It's far better to under-salt than to over-salt.

Love us some Rick's for breakfast! Just like the good 'ol days when we ate breakfast at home growing up. I don't think I've ever left hungry. Always full! Always satisfied!

Food was way better than you think from the outside. Really enjoyed the place. You can really tell why it's a local Hotspot with the friendly and fast service. Anyplace that a whole shift of Police will come sit and eat is worth every chance to try.

When you're craving pancakes at 6PM, options are a little slim. But we're so glad we came across Rick's! I think back in the day this used to be a spot that locals would come to after a night out, but from what we experienced... this is definitely not the case anymore, plus I think they close at 9PM now. I would say Rick's draws in an older crowd and families, which was great because the restaurant was calm and quiet. It's also very spacious and we were able to seat ourselves. Our server was super friendly, and food came out fast-- and DELICIOUS! My husband and I both got versions of the 2 egg platter. Everything came out hot, and our favorite part was the home fries! They are well seasoned and crispy. I'm also super picky about my scrambled eggs and these were perfect. Prices were great, we got all that food for less than $25! I saw some reviews comparing to Denny's and iHop but I respectively disagree, this place is so much better. We will definitely be back!

We had a great breakfast at Rick's. I was specific about how I wanted my eggs cooked and they came out exactly right. All four of us ate all of food. Service was good - our server was prompt and efficient. Prices were reasonable, too.

Ricks has amazing food, great prices and a friendly atmosphere! I visited with two friends after we couldn't get into some of the more popular brunch locations (long waits) in Virginia Beach. Ricks is located close to the Oceana base for families visiting their Sailors. Their breakfast was very affordable and tasty! My coffee cup was never empty. Look forward to visiting them again.

In town to visit family looking for a nice out of the way place for a relaxing breakfast and Rick's fit the bill. Service and staff were great. It's our only visit so we don't have any history but this visit, and we found it on our own so no recommendations from friends/family. My wife had Donna's favorite with no complaints. I had the two egg platter with corned beef hash. I was looking for something other than carbs (fries, applesauce, etc) for the side and the server immediately offered broccoli (yeah, I know) which was great and very much appreciated. The one thing I was disappointed in was the hash. You'd be hard pressed to convince me it was anything but a can of Hormel's corned beef hash. Frankly that was disappointing but overall service was great, food (hash aside) was solid and we'd defiantly give it another shot.

I love a good mom n pop style cafe, simple food that gets rid of the hunger, priced at a very fair dollar amount. We dined here for lunch midweek at 12:00 and were told to choose any table. The parking lot wasn't full but filled out as we were leaving and it got busier with the lunch crowd coming in. I chose Donna's favorite which came with french cinnamon dusted toast, x2 eggs (scrambled), sausage patties and bacon, and finished. it. ALL. Super delicious! Our server was polite and attentive and looked after all the locals who enjoyed her company, you can tell this is one of those places that look after their regulars; I love that.

Delicious, my husband and I stumbled upon this place while waiting for a nearby store to open. Absolutely delicious, staff was very attentive and worked together as a team. Food came quickly we would definitely stop by again if we were in the area.

I can see why president Obama came here for a visit. Loved the food. Tons of options. Great how they are open 24 hours. Love that they serve breakfast all day. The site itself could use updating but thanks to the menu prices it definitely deserves 5 stars with the food being so good along with the price.

I have been coming to Rick's Cafe for 5 years now.. lemme tell you something...: good freaking food awaits you at this establishment. I don't know who Rick is...but I have to meet him to thank him personally. Thank him for the good food. The great service. The expediency of the orders being delivered. The atmosphere. There is laughing. All around good vibes. You're greeted at the door when you walk in. Damn near before you step your first foot in the door. I loooove it here!!! 1000 stars!!! Highly recommended! If I write a review like this...it means something. No exaggeration here. You're in the Virginia Beach area...if you're in the Richmond Virginia area...STOP WHAT UOU ARE DOING AND VISIT RICK's CAFE!!! Need I say more? Lol

So I went to rick cafe few mins ago and I was told I could bring a 711 drink inside the restaurant.. my daughter had the cup and the waitress told my child that she need to go outside to wait for me.. I all i did was place,ad order to go and the young was really rude and disrespect.. but we walk to 711 first to get wat I need and then I talk to the order cashier for the corporate number she told me I need to go the Google to look it up she was also disrespectful .. I will never eat from this place ever again because it never been like this.. for one I am paying customer I deserve respect I also work in a fast food restaurant so I know how it is.. I never been sp disrespect in my life.. The owner need to get the bottom of this for me come back as a customer. I only has French

Bathroom filthy. Needs regular cleaning(s). Ordered eggs over well last few times. Came back runny. Server said 'We're training some new cooks.' Huh? It's fried eggs guys.

Jodi was amazing!!! Such a small place, not much but man! The Food speaks for itself! The pricing is cheap and you get a good amount of food. It really does feel like home! I definitely appreciate the buttered biscuit that was thrown on the flat top, the thing sliced home fries and the thick sausage gravy. Jodi was quick, sweet and made sure we were taken cared of. Will be back for lunch and dinner!

I have heard about this place continually through the years as a great breakfast/diner/post drinking stop. You can get your grub on after some drinks at this place and leave satisfied. It's a kind of a hole in the wall place as compared to a Citrus or Bay Local but the breakfast is still delicious. You do not come here for the ambiance or decoration as it is a hole in the wall located on the far edge of Va Beach Blvd. We were seated right away and given menus. The entire menu is available all day everyday so if you want a burger and fries for breakfast, have at it! We ordered the Two egg platter with bacon and home fries and three egg platter with chicken fried chicken and fries. The wait was not long at all and our food came out hot and fresh. The chicken fried chicken was big and juicy and the sausage gravy was flavorful! The pancakes were alright though nothing special. It seemed like a bisquick pancake. However, everything else was cooked to order and delicious. Will continue to keep coming here for breakfast and late night bites. Solid experience!

Food is always great. The waitstaff aim to please. It seems filled with locals but even as someone from Williamsburg I'd say it's most popular for Virginia Beach locals. Today we each had a Reuben which is always delicious. Thank you for the terrific all around experience from food to service. My man would love it if you had your liquor license so he could order a Bloody Mary.

New to town and needed to find a solid, unpretentious diner where I could pop in early and be sure I'd get a tasty breakfast. I found it in Rick's Cafe. Several decades of family ownership have done this quiet little spot well. Staff is prompt and kind. Food is simple and delicious. Price to value makes perfect sense. I imagine I'll become a regular at this place and hopefully enjoy the same recognition the staff offered to the numerous locals who stopped by for breakfast while I was there.

I was driving by and realized I was starving so pulled into Rick's! I loved the nautical atmosphere! Sadly they were out of grilled chicken (and only reason I took off one star), but found so much else to enjoy. The salad was delicious! The Hushpuppies are to DIE FOR!!!! oh man- crispy on the outside and flavorful!!! I could have eaten a dozen! ;) My waitress was really welcoming, friendly, and efficient! Stop in and enjoy Rick's!

Great little cafe. Nothing fancy but the staff was friendly and the food and coffee was great!

The food was nasty! My scrambled eggs were like rubber. The corn beef hash is from a can and extremely salty. The hash browns should be called hash "BLACKS"...they were totally burned. The country fried steak was overcooked, very thin, and like shoe leather to eat. Plus the breading/batter was very thick...almost a thick as the steak itself. I suspect the country fried steak was frozen food not "Country Cooking" as advertised. My friend asked for a little gravy on top of the steak and was charged $2.99 extra! We were dodging flies left and right that kept landing on our food...I can only imagine that the kitchen must be a fly breeding ground. Two breakfasts, tea, and coffee came to $40...definitely not worth it based on the poor quality of the food. It was my first time at Rick's Cafe and it will be my last.

With pops diner closing early now, we were craving breakfast for dinner. Service was great. Bacon, sausage and eggs were good. Food was cold when we got it. Husband had donnas fav. Pancake and French toast were very dry. Both were missing flavor... even when covered in syrup it was hard. Would be willing to give this place another chance in the AM but I wouldn't come here for breakfast at dinner.

Rick's Café is a fun alternative to iHop or Denny's after those late summer nights out in Virginia Beach. My friend and I came here after a fun night of dancing around 2:30AM on the 4th of July, and everyone was so friendly from the time we arrived to the time we left. (I don't think that you usually get that at iHop or Denny's late at night.) We had two waitresses check up on us during our meal, one of them had rainbow hair, I especially liked her. Anyways on the reccomendation of the staff we got one Rick's favorite platter with two eggs (we got ours scrambled with cheese), two strips of bacon, two pieces of sausage (patties or links), and two pancakes. We also got the Donna's favorite platter with all of the aforementioned, only it had French toast instead of pancakes. My friend and I ended up splitting the pancakes and French toast between us. I also got a side of home fries, and she got a side of grits. The food was nothing fancy; however, it was just what we needed, something to quell our hunger after shaking it on the dance floor all night long. We did prefer the French toast to the pancakes, but they were both good nonetheless. You've got to come to Ricks Café for good food and a fun friendly atmosphere. I give it two thumbs up. Whether or not those thumbs were tipsy are none of your business. :p

Popped in for breakfast as I was in the area. Simple enough, they manage to have the usual offerings of eggs and breakfast meats and grilled items. I chose "Donna's Favorite" which has two eggs, two bacon and two sausage (or four of either) and French toast. Two eggs poached were perfectly done and served in a small bowl. The sausages were excellent - good pop when I cut into them and quite tasty. These were not the usual food delivery service sausages out of some frozen packet. French Toast was nice and fluffy, absorbing a good dose of maple syrup as they went down. Coffee was refilled while I waited and then more after I'd eaten my delicious meal. Open 24 hours, breakfast all day. What?? I'd return!

After not being able to get in my normal breakfast place due to a 45 min wait... SMH! I decided to run errands until my stomach growled loud enough to tell me it's time to eat. By that time it was lunch, but I was in the mood for breakfast grub. So out came my handy Yelp app and whoop! Rick's Cafe came up and just recently had a good review come across the feed. Rick's is located around 2.5 miles from the beach in a strip called Oceana East on VB Bvld. But the strange thing is after almost residing in this city for 10 yrs I have never been on this portion of the blvd. Parking was somewhat limited, but not impossible around 1 PM. The lot was tidy, so this was a good start. The building is all brick and they have a corner. Since the establishment is open 24 hours it is a draw to many who work, or party after normal hours. A step inside and it was pretty packed, but scored on a booth immediately. The motif is nautical, but very average on looks. Carpeting on the floor needs to be cleaned, tables and booths are suitable... absolutely nothing fancy. My waitress was on top of my table almost immediately and was great! She walked me through the menu and I decided on Ricks Favorite, two pancakes, two eggs, two sausage patties and two bacon for around $9.50. I thought this was a bargain. Coffee and water was out quickly. The cup of Joe was terrific and strong too. As quick as I took several sips my waitress had a refill, service was never an issue on this visit. Food arrived at the table in less than 15 minutes. Everything was served on the same plate and hot.Syrup is kept on the table along with other items a customer may need. The overall meal was average to me with pancakes being a little dry, but still had good flavor. The sausage was extremely bland and tough. Eggs were prepared just right and to specifications. A follow up by the waitress was completed and more coffee was poured. I chatted with my server about the late night crowd. She said it is extremely busy most nights with mainly drunks from the beach coming from clubs. This would not be my place of choice for late night dining probably, but any business that has these hours has to suspect a clientele like this. Check came and was correct. Checkout person had pretty much no personality and forgot to give me back my credit card. This young girl would be best served to not deal with customers. Final thoughts on my first visit to Ricks. AWESOME service, but a blah meal in my opinion. Atmosphere was tolerable, but nothing special. I would like to try them again for another meal and hopefully upgrade.

Do I ever end up here sober? Nope, but their servers are excellent, funny, & patient, and they stick to their policy: if you're so drunk you're falling asleep at the table, you will be asked to leave. (I came here with a guy who was falling asleep, and I kept shaking him awake because I was soo hungry.) I, oddly enough, don't indulge in the drunk breakfast menu. I go with the philly cheesesteak with the green peppers & onions with a side of tater tots. The tots have been warm & crunchy every time. I try to finish my side first since those take more time to salvage. If I'm still hungry, I devour half of the philly cheesesteak, which by the way, is already sliced in half for you. The bread is surprisingly delicious: warm, toasty, soft on the inside, and a light crunch on the outside. White American cheese is melted on top, but I'm drunk & happy with this order at night as well as when I finish eating it the next morning. The process to pay for your bill is the same as iHOP- take it to the front register. There's never an issue when splitting checks, and you get checked out fairly quickly. The place is clean, safe, and efficient for being a 24/7 joint.

I came in here today for the first time. I've passed it a few times, but had never gone in. I don't normally go down that part of the road. What brought me to finally come in is that others have been in before and said the place was good. When you come in, it definitely has the diner feel. It's great that they are open 24 hours a day. I got in early enough this morning that it wasn't that crowded yet. Here, you just find a table to sit at. The inside of the place is typical of a diner. Colors are mostly neutral. Since it was breakfast time, I had the Donna's Favorite breakfast. This includes french toast, two eggs, two bacon, and two sausage (though you can do all bacon or all sausage too). Service was fairly quick, which wasn't too surprising since it wasn't busy yet. The food was good. They have syrup bottles already on the tables, so it isn't hot syrup that other places may have. Overall, the food was good, and would come back here again. Next time, I might come in for a dinner. They do have nightly dinner specials. Overall, this was good place. However, there are a few reasons why I only gave them four stars instead of five. First, some of the food was warm, but not hot when it came out, so that means it might have sat at the window for a bit before it came out to the table. The other reason for this was because the bacon came out very greasy. I had to use the napkins to get the grease off of the bacon. I understand that there can be some grease on the bacon, but it shouldn't be swimming in it. I was impressed overall with the place. Don't let the last paragraph deter you from coming here. It is definitely a good place. When I was leaving today, there was traffic backed up trying to turn left into this place.

I'll be brief...I'm not given to exaggeration so when I tell you this place is worth a deliberate visit...make it a point to dine with Rick's team. Karen, our hostess today, (7/17/21) made us feel welcomed. She is well informed, friendly and gracious.. We ordered Rick's Favorite and the Two Egg Platter with a side of "real" catfish! DELICIOUS! Rick's Cafe is a keeper. Stop by and tell them you heard about them on Yelp. Enjoy...

Great food and awesome service! This little place happens to be right down the road, but we always seemed to pass right by. So glad we stopped in, we'll definitely be back!

We stopped by here for breakfast/brunch because all the one get restaurants near the beach were out of space. It turned out to be a great brunch spot. I order the full house omelette which also came with pancakes. It was delicious! The price was really good too. The staff was super friendly, and made our last meal at VA beach memorable!

Had brunch here so review is for breakfast food only. Pros: not touristy, super friendly waitstaff + good service. Cons: food ok, but not special. $10 for an omelet is great for a great omelet, but meh for the good enough omelet I had.

My husband brought me here after arriving from a long flight. Must say this place hits the spot! I love he country fried steak, French toast and pancakes. Every time we came here to eat, we were seated right away and our food didn't take long. Once I come back to the VA, this will be my first stop again Totally recommend

The food was really good! I am not originally from the Virginia beach area, visiting for a quick family vacation. Ended up getting omelettes. pancakes and side applesauce and wow I was definitely surprised. Very "home cooked" feel and I definitely would be going back!
