"Right Choice is a Caribbean and West African market right outside downtown Leimert Park. It might be small compared to other spots on this list (there are only two aisles), but those shelves are packed with everything you’re going to need for tonight’s dinner. You’ll find tropical seasonings and marinades like Trinidad scorpion pepper sauce, Jamaican ginger beer, pounded garri, and produce ranging from tamarind to plantains. If you’re looking to make a day of it, our recommendation would be to spend the afternoon browsing Leimert Park’s other excellent shops and restaurants first, then hitting Right Choice for all the week’s essentials." - Brant Cox, Sylvio Martins, Kat Hong

Great Authentic products ! Closes early many times . I work in the day and fight traffic to try to support but this is the 3rd time I’ve come between 7-8 and is closed . One time the owner was there and with hesitation let me in and it was 745. Maybe change the hours to 7? Gas is not cheap and I hate to waste my time if again it’s not going to be open. Tryin to give Grace, will try again on the weekend perhaps

They had everything I needed there and more. Completely worth the drive from The Valley. Major highlight, they had pigstail, goat, oxtail, salt beef, even chicken foot!! Lol... I was finally able to cook stew peas since moving here to LA. It's been hard to find a Caribbean meat store. They had tons of other Caribbean goodies as well. Ground provisions, seasonings, hard dough bread, SNACKS, etc. So happy I found this spot! This Jamaican girl is a happy one!

Google
Yes yes yes!! Thank you!!!! As soon as I walked in I felt like I was back in NY!!! They had everything I needed and it is so hard for me to find every ingredient in one stop out here in Los Angeles. I am so grateful for this place and I will definitely be coming back. I bought a gang of items, even though the price was what I would consider high, being that back home I could get these things for pretty cheap... But you cannot put a price on nostalgia or cooking that reminds you of home, so I will pay up! Please never close LOL.

Yelp
Had the plantains we needed for $3.50/2 which wasn't bad. They were delicious and hit the spot. Lots of other stuff we'll need in the future - will come back especially since they take Apple Pay

Yelp
We stumbled across this market trying to find pepper sauce. Upon finding the sauce I realized this market was so authentic! They had fresh coconut tart, powder bun,and patties. They even had a fresh food section with oxtail, cassava, and nani. The man was so kind and knowledgeable. He even told us the pepper sauce we like originated in Trini. I love this store because it definitely covers every angle of Carribean culture. Love to the people!

Yelp
Im come here all the time and i love this place but they never open on time, its wild your gonna be waiting like 30-40 mins after they supposed to be open ‍‍

Jasmin S.

Yelp
They seriously need to change their hours of operation. The are advertising as if the open at 9 am. I waited in the parking lot for 30 min and no one opened. I saw at least two cars pull up while I waited and left because the business was not open as advertised. Then I asked the people next door they said the guy opens when he feels like it smh. Not cool waste of my money time and gas. I will stop giving them my business..

Yelp
A total ripoff. I was there today to buy some Jamaican spices and they changed me $31 for what I can get on Amazon for $15. Don't go there. They will rip you off.

Yelp
Went for fruit punch mix to make rum punch. They didnt have it but they had the strawberry syrup. That did the job. From other reviews I knew to chevk the expiration dates. Everything was in order. The cashier was nice although he couldn't recommend another place to check for the punch mix.

Yelp
Good selection, reasonable prices, and knowledgeable associate! Just moved to LA, and this is my new LA Jamaican one-stop shop!

Rasheeta F.

Yelp
Small selection but they have the basics. Customer service was a little shabby but okay market. Probably won't return.

Yelp
Don't waste your time looking for this place... Not much on the shelves, poor customer service and what IS on the shelves is priced ridiculously... Save your time and money... Southern California could use a quality Caribbean Market but right now, this place is not it.

Dana S.

Yelp
Never will i come here again .. the lady who works there has terrible customer service ! Asked to help pick out a yellow yam , and come to find out it was rotten inside waste of money... I drove 35 miles to find jamaican goods just to be disappointed !!! I will tlake my money to asian market (dat moi)

Yelp
Right Choice Caribbean Market offers a fine selection of Jamaican and Caribbean foods and spices. Unfortunately, most items are over-priced and (as other reviewers have noted) quality can vary greatly. Because many of the items sold here are specialty items not widely available elsewhere the selection could be viewed as better-than-average but it's probably safe to say that many items sold here are keystoned and not purchased at wholesale by the market because of the overly high prices.

Yelp
I agree with some of the reviews that some items are priced a little high, but the location is convenient. I regularly pull through there to grab a drink, a couple of patties, & a leaf; quick transactions, in & out. The patties are always on point, my leaf is never stale, & the drinks are cheaper than some of the other neighborhood spots. Even if it's priced a little high, I still grab my sauces when I pull through; an extra $2 to support a local Black-Owned business in LA is nothing. That little bit extra keeps the neighborhood in tact, & I'd prefer that be the case. Pull into right choice; they're one of the only spots with parking, & they're stock stays consistent. *thumbs up*

Yelp
Prices are too high and the service sucks! I go to Right Choice because they offer a big variety of carribean goods that can be hard to find. But the prices are too high. Once bought a yellow yam and spent $12 on it to only find it dry and rotten on the inside. Spent $23.99 on a pot only to find that Target sells the same pots in a set of 3 for about $40. Shame on me for not shopping around. The patties in the warmer are cold and old and when you buy one they always have to put it in the microwave. Don't even think about trying to get service. And the woman that works/owns it with the long nails and the lacefront gives the "dont bother me" "weh yu want" attitude. A hello, smile and a thank you goes a long way when you are offering goods and services. It's a spot to go if you need a last minute item but there are other options.

Yelp
I thought this was a good representation of a Caribbean mart. Some things were over priced but some were moderately priced. It felt good supporting a black owned business.

Yelp
This place is not great at all. First of all, it is clear they are buying things at retail price and selling it at retail price (keystoned instead of wholesale then keystoned) because the prices are TRIPLE what I would pay in NY, NJ, FL hec and even when I was in London; if I converted the British pounds to US dollar it still would be at least half price!!! I bought some fish to meet the credit card minimum, brought it home to let it thaw a d lo and behold it was ROTTEN and all the guts were still in there too. It's like they let it sit out for a while and then froze it. I wasted my money on what was supposed to be Easter dinner. I would rather buy online!!

Yelp
This little Jamaican bodega style market has a surprisingly good selection of loose herbs in jars. The prices are pretty good too. Initially I went there trying to find the pastry that is used to make Jamaican patties. They don't have that there but they have other Jamaican things that I like such as sauces, spices, seasoning blends, roots tonics, good quality canned corn beef, Grace products, Walkerswood products, cock soup packet, arrowroot powder, jamaican vegetables, dried sorrel flowers, mauby bark, etc. The place is also clean and well-kept. This store has a stock of at least 60 major herbs. Many of them are used in American herbal healing and some were unfamiliar and new to me (very jamaican ones). My only caution about the herbs is that my guess is that there isn't an extremely high turnover on the sale of them. Even though the herbs are dried, a few jars looked a little pale in color (old). The herbs are priced by the pound. I wish they would price them by the ounce. Who buys are pound of herbs unless they're going to sell it! Here's a sample of what's available there: Sarsaparilla Root, Sassafras, Poke, Echinacea Root, Burdock Root, Basil, Goldenseal Root Powder, Alfalfa Leaf, Chickweed, Red Clover...wow there were lots more but I can't remember them right now. I was mostly interested in the herbs above so that I could make a blood purifying formula. I puchased a total of about 10 ounces of herbs for about $12.

Yelp
They say less is more. I believe they were talking about this place. As small as it is. It has ALOT of stuff that cannot be found at your regular supermarket. Ground provisions are key staple to the West African diet. Not only was I able to find coco yam, white yam, yellow yam, n sweet potatos but I was able to find the drinks we are used to as well. Meaning the ginger, and the sorrell was there as well. The main thing though is kind of hitting or missing with the bread fruit its like once its in stock, its gone right away. The workers here are pretty chill. I will say that us West Africans n carribean people are very similar. Its very refreshing to go in a place with a chill relaxed mood, even if all im doing is buying groceries. Kind of makes you feel like your back at one of the shops back home. This is a regular stop of mines every week, and with a long track season coming I don't see that stopping anything soon at all.

Yelp
I needed some Walkerswood Jerk seasoning last minute, and my local grocery stores don't carry it. Googled "jamaican grocery stores" and was elated that this was a 2 minute drive up the street. The owner was nice, and let me know they had just what I was looking for. I found a variety of jerk seasonings, plus a myriad of other spices, baked goods, every island drink I had ever seen, and even beauty products. No more driving all the way to the Ralph's on Pico and La Brea when I run out of Walkerswood! And they have coco bread!
