"Riki is a casual Japanese restaurant with a giant menu that has everything from sashimi to okonomiyaki and skewered meats. It’s a good option if you’re meeting a friend for something low-key and want to split everything - or if you want to eat alone at the sushi bar (where they sometimes show videos of cats doing stupid things on the TV screens)." - Hannah Albertine

Google
Our whole family truly enjoyed this place! The food was awesome and very delicious!

Kevan Bates

Google
The most authentic Japanese restaurant I've been to in Michigan, fantastic atmosphere, small seating area that feels legit. Soft shell crab was cooked perfectly, huge variety of options from authentic Japanese to "USA" style sushi.

Google
My new favorite ✨ I really love this restaurant. They have some of the most delicious vegetarian sushi in the area. Service is great, very kind and friendly. Very tasty miso as well and everything is very fresh tasting.

Samarth Jadav

Google
Authentic Japanese food. You know the place is legit when you see most customers are locals. Food portions are pretty good and reasonably priced. Need some furniture update, dinning seats are falling apart and tables are squeaky but the food is the highlight and should get all the limelight! Definitely hidden local gem for Japanese food.

Google
Small inside seating area. Cozy and lots to look at on the wall of the food options. Great chef and great presentation when food arrives. Perfect for date night.

Google
The best sushi in Oakland County....the owner is so nice - he calls back when he misses calls

Yelp
This place is not clean and I saw the employees preparing the food not handling it properly for food safety

Yelp
A friend of mine wanted to check this place out. I am glad we came across this hole in the wall kind of place. I commend the chef and the waitress in multi tasking and running this little shop of theirs. They're not trying to make it trendy, or fancy, or fusion of any sorts. They're doing what they love and they're doing their best! And sometimes it's worth the credit that is deserved. Majority of them speak fluent Japanese and a bit of English. They have great combo deals that will please your palette. A bit over whelming at first but got the hang of it in reading their menus on the walls. We ordered the hamburger combo which has that sweetness to it. Karage (Japanese fried chicken), spaghetti, rice, and usually a croquette but was subbed in with a pork katsu which was a plus! We also ordered their tofu udon, a full size pork katsu, fried squid, and Tekka Don. Everything was simply great. Granted there was no wow factor but overall I was satisfied. I will definitely come back again to try out their other dishes. But would be great if they find more people to help out. If you speak Japanese/English they're looking! Just fyi! From what I saw on their window! :)

Yelp
First time here tonight for take out and the sushi was horrible. It looks like a two year old rolled it and they were not the best tasting. The spring rolls were overcooked as well.

Kristen V.

Yelp
Amazing food, best Japanese I've ever had!! I loved the chicken Katsu dinner and the chicken katsu sandwich for lunch. Legit love this place

Chris N.

Yelp
The service was really slow. It was a Saturday night so it was somewhat understandable but the whole dinner took almost two hours which is really long. We tried several different rolls but all of them were crunchy rolls which we thought was odd and hard to eat after awhile. The soup was also lukewarm and not tasty. Overall it wasn't the worst experience but it wasn't good enough to warrant coming back here. Once and done.

Yelp
Let me tell you 1st! Who trust a review written by a person who has 0 friend or a few reviews? Price? make sure when you order and It was not crazy expensive. Fair price. Huge size and taste is better than others. Not special taste and not like special menu, but Japanese taste as long as I know( im japanese) Plus, they speak Japanese negative side: they should have each picture on menu One more. when someone says, "This is not japanese" Have you been to Japan( not only like Tokyo, Kyoto/Osaka)? Have you had a family dinner at there? nowadays many Jp restaurants are ran by none-Jp such as Korean or Chinese and waiter doesnt speak Japanese. my point is here you may have many Japanese food, but there are many fusion. are you looking for Asian fusion or authentic Japanese? This restaurant is authentic Japanese side(not 100% thou), but not special and not for date.

Naoko M.

Yelp
Eat curry. Eat karage. Hmmm go there for dinner time, the place isn't backed. If you go around lunch time, the place is packed. Just remember the serving size is Bigger than expected

Naomi M.

Yelp
Again with these bad reviews! I honestly don't know who's leaving them but seriously, this place is true Japanese cuisine. As I always say, if there are natives coming to a restaurant, it's amazing food. My husband and I showed up 5 minutes before they actually opened but they were very kind and let us stay. After ordering, Japanese people started pouring into the restaurant. The sushi was amazing. Fresh, so flavorful!! Not just tasting like rice and seaweed but wow, real flavors! The spring rolls and miso soup was equally fresh and flavorful! Definitely a place we will visit often! It's been so hard finding a place with great sushi in Michigan.

Yo E.

Yelp
Best and Genuine Izakaya-style Japanese food around Novi area. All of fried Japanese deli dishes are best in Mid-West area including Chicago. Kara-age l Kushi-age l Tonkatsu is recommended besides sushi menu. The best day for sushi is Thursday.

Adam H.

Yelp
We just moved to town a couple of weeks ago. This location is super convenient. Food was pretty good. Hoping to find a better place for sushi. Chicken was super dry. Definitely an older establishment. Kitchen was NOT clean. Can't say I wouldn't go back. Overall, a "3" is an adequate rating.

Jack M.

Yelp
I moved to near this area. The owner cheff is an Indian, but he has much cooking skill and much cooking experience in Japan and the metro Detroit area. He is a great cheff nearby more than typical Chinese or Korean, looks like Asian fake Japanese cheffs. The food is not fancy, but traditional and Japanese SHOKUDO style, it's like diner or dive in Japan. They can give you much American style sushi rolls, but if you are Japanese food beginner or not so familiar for the casual Japanese food, you might be uncomfotable at this restaurunt.

Sophia M.

Yelp
I have been to Japan many times and I can say that the food is authentic and quite delicious!! The chicken karaage is INSANELY good especially when paired with the draft beer. If you're looking for a more casual and authentic Japanese dining experience I would highly recommend!

Kyle P.

Yelp
I just tried this place out with carry out. I ordered a sweet potato crunch roll, you can't really check when you are there because all the sushi looks the same, when I got home I realized it wasn't there (although I paid for it!) and then when I called he refused to make me one. DONT go here. There are too many good options nearby.

Yuka K.

Yelp
REAL Japanese taste Just like my mother cooked for me when I was child Surprisingly chef isn't Japanese BUT I would like to say if you want to enjoy real Japanese meal Please try here!

Christina Z.

Yelp
Service was awkward and unpleasant. (No greeting and mumbled questions) Back of restaurant was full of dirty dishes. Food was passable but nothing special. What prompted the 1-star review, however, was the bizarre stinginess of the owners (Indian chef and waitress, presumably his wife). Menu had a roll for $3.99, so I ordered as an extra to my udon since it was cheap. It was sub-par (spicy sauce was icky). Udon and my bf's tonkatsu were fine, nothing exceptional, but tasty enough. If that had been the end of it, I wouldn't have written a review. But then we got our check, and the sushi roll was $5.50. Not outrageous, but not the price on the menu. I showed the menu that I had ordered from that said $3.99. My tone was very polite and casual, thinking it would be an easy fix. But waitress unsmilingly talked over me and said that was wrong. Then suddenly the chef came out from behind the counter and started to aggressively tell me that the menu was old, and the price was $5.50. I was very taken aback to have so much intensity about $1.50...any restaurant with a modicum of customer service (or business smarts!) would have immediately changed the price, then just made sure they got the menu right next time. I said the sushi menu on the table was the only one we were given, and also that I had pointed to the item to order it, so the woman had to have known I had that menu. How could I have known the updated price if I didn't get the updated menu? While I started to say this, the chef got more in my face and talked over me, and his wife just took the bill from the table that had my credit card on it and charged it without even waiting for me to agree. Strange behavior. I was really taken aback by the unpleasantness and intensity that was so unnecessary. That, combined with generally awkward service and some of the food, left bad tastes in our mouths, and we will not be back!

Yelp
I believe that he is one of the greatest Japanese restaurant chefs in Detroit. (The chef is not Japanese, that fact surprises me more) Pork fillet cutlet tastes perfect, which tells the chef has very good eye on food material, skills for prep and frying, so cutlet becomes tender with crispy texture. Be careful, it's very hot. Curry Namban (noodle) reminded me of my childhood. Gyoza is must try. It looks beautiful and tastes great. If you are not familiar with Japanese food, you're lucky to start enjoying it from here.

Nemo A.

Yelp
The food was good. I really enjoyed it. But there was an issue with payment. I pay tips in cash sometimes and pay the food with card. My bill was about $19 so I left tips of approximately $3.50 in cash and pairs $19 on my card. Then I got my credit card statement later and it shows that they charged $22.50. It's not worth disputing but you need to be careful and make sure they charge the correct amount. I write note on the receipts so I notice when they overcharge.

Christie M.

Yelp
I'm feeling generous so 3 star. The place is small and decor is like a mix match of various restaurants with wobbly tables and wobbly benches. Price is Cherry Blossom's prices but average food. But I do admit we did not order sushi but donduri (rice meals) from the Japanese menu, tonkatsu, Katsu curry rice, una don. I loved my una don, eels over rice. It was quite tasty with the finely shaved eggs too. Now for the issues I did not like. Server really was not educated enough about the menu. When I order una don, he mistaken me saying udon. I corrected him, saying it's a rice dish not soup. Apparently to him that meant chirashi. Does it even sound like each other? Does he only know that dish to have rice and nothing else? Should I have read the description of the dish to him myself? I feel bad that they spent the time and effort to make chirashi to bring to me but it was not what i ordered. I understand they are newly opened but the menu is not that extensive. You should know the main non sushi items. Maybe I have too high of expectation but for the price of Cherry Blossom, I rather go elsewhere for better service, and decor. Salad that came with the meal was not enticing, miso soup apparently good enough for a 5 yr old's taste buds. Maybe I'll give it a try again after a yr? I don't know but currently I'm in no rush to head back, not when there are many other restaurants to try.

Yelp
The chef has been around the block working in real Japanese-run restaurants for many years before branching out on his own. Word has got around in the Japanese community and indeed most of the customers were Japanese tonight (a good sign). They have a full Japanese menu, not just sushi (including donburi, menrui, tsumami). Everything we tried -- tekka-don, uni/ikura/shake don and agedashi-dofu did not disappoint. The main thing that was not like Japan were the larger portions.

Megan H.

Yelp
I'm not usually very picky with my sushi but this was just not good. The rice was over cooked, the roll was falling apart and the spicy mayo was weirdly sweet and not spicy. I won't be back sadly...

Johny F.

Yelp
This sushi place is run by an Indian chef. I have seen sushi place run by an American, Chinese or Korean, but this was my first experience in Indian style sushi. Waitress was not knowledgeable about Japanese food. Food taste was OK, but my Tonkatsu was a bit too salty.

Susie S.

Yelp
This place serves the best donkatsu in the area! It's pure heavenly taste, and their other lunch menu is exceptionally good as well. I haven't tried their ramen yet, but I've seen other tables order various ramen dishes. And the most reassuring thing about this place is that it is approved by the Japanese community. (Most of the customers are Japanese.) Chicago doesn't even have a place like this. It's a must-try place!

Michelle C.

Yelp
This place is definitely a hole in the wall, just like other reviewers stated. But, I happen to be a fan of hole in the walls. The emphasis is clearly not on decor in this restaurant. Too bright, plastic plates, dirty floor. However, the food I had was quite good. The tuna tataki was a big portion ($10) and very good. The edamame was so-so (reheated and doused in table salt). The spicy tempura California roll was VERY good. The waiter was quite personable as was the sushi chef who said hello and asked how my sushi was. I'd eat here again and I would recommend it.

Christina K.

Yelp
Although the interior of this restaurant is a little rough the food is pretty good. There's a huge selection of sushi rolls so be prepared!! Don't neglect the dinner specials posted on the wall, you get a lot of food for a pretty good price!

Jose S.

Yelp
Best karage out there... super crunchy!... the owner lived in Japan and worked there as a cook. I have had their sushi and I would rather get sushi somewhere else though

Odria L.

Yelp
this is my fourth time here, really love the food! tons of selection you get to pick. we ordered around 6 small plates and 2 entrees(for 3). In the picture is the shoyu ramen (chicken karage and veggie stir fry behind ), chashu is pretty tender, didnt get to eat the hard boiled egg cuz i was too full, but really enjoyed the scallion, bamboo shoot and spinach with the ramen broth. remember to order some Japanese beer to go along with the small plates/ appetizers, you will not regret it! The only issue we had was the service was a little bit slower, so you gotta take the initiative to ask them place your order or refill more water/ tea. Overall, i recommend this restaurant for the authentic dining experience. (im not Japanese but seems like 80% of their customers are Japanese so simply assumed its pretty authentic )

dc s.

Yelp
Chef really tries, but think maybe should focus on doing something really well, instead of lots sub-par. Tried mix of Izakaya and sushi...neither where epic or reason for me to come back. I absolutely HATE when sushi is warm / hot. Sushi rice was weird texture and drenched in sauce. Definitely a dive...do yourself a favor & keeping driving to Hanzo for Izakaya or One World Mkt for sushi.

Eileen M.

Yelp
Terrible sushi!!! was my second time in here, the first one I got a good opinion but tonight, OHH God! Awful!! the Avocado was disgusting, I don't know if they know what Tempura is, but I order two sushi tempura rolls and none of them were tempura at all, also, I don't know the freshness of their food, the Avocado was black and the fish taste really bad, we ate one and couldn't eat more, never again.!!!

Brittany P.

Yelp
If I could give it 100 stars I would! First time trying it and we're in love. I'm a very picky eating and loved all of it!! So amazing. We live 2 minutes away so we will be returning very soon!!

David W.

Yelp
Very close to my place. But it serves the worst sushi I ever had. The basic of sushi is sushi rice. Sushi rice here is just a joke.

Dave T.

Yelp
We haven't been in yet but this place is owned and run by the sushi chef that made Casey's of Walled Lake's sushi great. Go there and try it... I promise you won't be disappointed!

Carrie C.

Yelp
Pure deliciousness!! This is a basic roll and came with soup. It was only $6.88 out the door and I paid extra for the jalepeno.

Candace W.

Yelp
We just went to Riki Sushi, and really enjoyed it. The waitress seemed a bit inexperienced, but was very friendly, and the atmosphere may need a little bit more work, but overall very good food.

Kristen L.

Yelp
If I could give this place zero stars I would - after getting back to lunch just now I decided I would write a review to warn people to not eat here. I should've taken pictures of the kitchen while the sushi chef rang us up with his bare hands - I'm sure he didn't wash his hands when he went back to cooking. The sushi case was open with fish hanging out of it, pieces just lying on the cutting board. First of all I will say it was packed with Japanese people which was hopeful however they have two waitstaff which are family members and have no clue what they are doing. The family is Indian and one of our diners who raved about the place said the chef had lived in Japan. The table was sticky and we asked three times to have it wiped off - finally waiter wipes off in three strokes which made no difference and still sticky. We should've taken that as a sign and left but were hungry and needed to get back to work (which by the way we were gone 2 hours and only work about 4 miles away). One of my diners and myself decided to get daily special and also add two pieces of nigiri to it. After watching these two cluelss people serve and see the chef working alone we were starting to worry. Food finally came out and was just OK. Salad blah, miso soup good, rice good, weird pork patty was strange, croquette was ok but way better at Nagomi in Novi (go there instead of this place!) the curry on the side was more like Indian curry than Japanese curry - was very spicy and I love spice but this wasn't like Nagomi's or Cherry Blossom when Cherry Blossom was really good back in the day. Sushi comes out - tuna had gray tinge and one of the salmon pieces as well. Asked Indian dude for cups to put our soy sauce in and looked at us and walked away - cups never came. Had to use bowl from our miso soup to pour soy sauce in. I choked down one piece and offered the other piece to our fellow diner who loved this place - he said, "yeah its not fresh". He apologized for our awful experience but it wasn't his fault - maybe this place was good last year. So now it comes time to leave and we decide not to wait for the check because that would be another half hour and weren't confident anyway that our waiter would even get it right so we go up to counter where chef rang us up and then I was mortified by the disgusting kitchen. DON'T GO, so many other places to eat Japanese food and sushi in the area - Sharaku, Ajishin, One World, etc.

Yosuke K.

Yelp
You have to try their karaage (fried chicken) here. It is comparable to karaage you can get in Japanese izakayas. Their other dishes are OK, but I'd go here just for the karaage. I've only been here for lunch, so not sure what it's like for dinner. Definitely recommend!

Sarah H.

Yelp
This place is a total hole in the wall dive with amazing sushi! They have ramen and other items which we haven't tried, but the banana roll and futomaki roll was amazing along with the other rolls we ordered. Service was quick but not hurried and the staff quiet but polite. What a hidden gem!

Stacey C.

Yelp
Not impressed with the service. My seven-year-old got yelled at for taking a pair of chopsticks when we ordered a meal. Don't they come free with the meals? Menus and table tops were also very dirty. Will not be back.

Luckie M.

Yelp
I decided to go to this restaurant today because it's near my house and I love sushi. I was surprised to see that an Indian family was running the restaurant, which I wouldn't care if it were Martians running it as long as they knew the art of sushi and had good customer service. I ordered a Philadelphia roll another specialty roll and a diet coke Japanese salad and a Specialty roll The Philadelphia roll came out first. This is my favorite but this had thee smallest sliver of smoked salmon I had ever seen on a Philadelphia roll and it taste mostly like rice because that is what it mostly consisted of. The Specialty rolls (13.99 each) came out next and it was clear to both of us that they had scrimped on the fish that was supposed to be in the roll. It was also clear that we would never eat here again. The waitress brought the bill with the Specialty rolls and left the restaurant. There was an older gentlemen that motioned for us to come to the counter and pay. I asked could I have a refill on my diet coke and he says "We charge for refills because it cost me 75cent to serve you coke" I told him "Say no more". There was no need to argue I knew we would never be back. Thoroughly Dissatisfied

John R.

Yelp
I haven't had a chance to try the entree yet. However, the sushi is fantastic, and I would say, the best in the area.

Andy K.

Yelp
Don't let this little hole in the wall fool you, the sushi here is absolutely outstanding! I've never had anything disappointing on multiple visits here. The staff is also very friendly! Always saying hello when you walk in and a thank you for coming when you leave. The prices are unbelievably good too!

J S.

Yelp
Really good sushi. He was making it at Casey's before opening up this spot. The sashimi was especially good. You can get basically anything if you know what to ask for. Head sushi chef is legit.

Alicia J.

Yelp
The food is good, I had been there once before. However, I went a second time today for lunch, and I know the food will be good but the service was terrible. The guy that took my order was impatient, rude, and mean. He could not wait for me to leave, he was unhappy the moment I walked in. I asked for a second bag and the boy that gave it to me had a bit of an attitude. Will probably only be eating from the malls sushi place now, as this was not worth $14 in sushi to have a frustrated man be rude to me. If you REALLY want to try the sush- don't stick around. Although,I want something there for lunch and was treated poorly.

Lauren K.

Yelp
This place doesn't have the best environment. It's kind of a hole-in-the-wall, but an AWESOME one! My fiancé and I go here for sushi about 2-4 times/month and it always tastes great and costs about half of what some of our other favorite places cost.

Eric C.

Yelp
I don't always eat sushi, but when I do, I choose Riki Sushi. Some of the best sushi I've ever had anywhere, including Japan!!! Owner is awesome, uses fresh ingredients and takes pride in his product! Can't recommend enough!!!

Rachelle C.

Yelp
I would give this dump ZERO stars! Beware! We decided to try it since our favorite sushi restaurant had an hour carry-out wait. This place said 25 minutes. Showed up and was told 10 more minutes, then 10 more minutes, than 10 more minutes... It took over 1 hour to get our carry-out! They didn't even offer to compensate us in any way. In addition the rolls were falling apart, my ginger salad was made with OLD LETTUCE, and the sushi rice wasn't good. We had a total of 10 various rolls, 2 orders tofu, 2 ginger salads. Total was $70. WHAT A COMPLETE RIP OFF AND NOT EVEN GOOD! I live in NOVI and my kids attend WLCSD. Don't bother with this place!
