Health department closes Rincon Catracho Mexican restaurant, 7-Eleven snack shop - Eater Vegas

"The Southern Nevada Health District closed Rincon Catracho, the Mexican restaurant at 4110 Maryland Pkwy., after finding inadequate hand washing facilities during a routine inspection on Sept. 11. Inspectors discovered that the restaurant removed the only hand sink in the kitchen, another sink had no soap, and the women’s restroom had no hot water. Inspectors also docked the restaurant with 33 demerits for expired tamales, plantains, and chicharron; pink slime and black mold in the ice machine; and rodent droppings in the corner of the service area. The restaurant reopened on Sept. 13 with an eight-demerit A grade. The health department previously closed the restaurant last November with 52 demerits." - Susan Stapleton

Must try! Best pupusas I’ve had in a LONG time!!! Verificado por una Hondureña! Que delicia! La sopa de Res! Uy! Vayan a probarla! Jesse was the sweetest waitress! She helped us and was kind. The music was bomb! I danced in my seat!

I stumbled upon this hidden gem—a hole-in-the-wall restaurant serving authentic Honduras cuisine. The food was outstanding, especially the delish pupusas and amazing Honduras tacos. The portions are just right and the flavors are outstanding. You also can’t go wrong with the Mexican sodas or a nice cold Michelada. The weekend DJ created a lively atmosphere, and the spacious layout, along with ample parking in the Plaza, made it a convenient choice. With a sizable staff, service was generally fast, though the quality varied depending on who assisted you. Every time I was immediately seated but again sometimes you get good service and sometimes you can get not so good service. The restrooms, while available, weren't the cleanest but clean enough to get any job done. Overall if you’re in the area, a worthwhile spot for flavorful eats and a vibrant experience. Enjoy!

Five stars, the food here is delicious. We went here for breakfast. Had some amazing tamales. The chicken is really good. And then the breakfast was fantastic with all original ingredients from Central America. 😍😍😍 Ay dios mio que rico

This place is amazing. We ate pupusas and they were delicious. The food server is super nice to us. Since we couldn’t speak Spanish he did took care of us well. Inside the restaurant is huge. So much space. And it’s clean.

The food was good. We order pupusas, my daughter order chicken fingers and French Fries. Was a lot of food. The music was very good. They play bachata and merengue and they also have karaoke. I don’t like the sofa because it had holes, bathroom dirty.

We went in the evening and I speak Spanish and heard the Owner talking to our waitress about horse meat being sent to the restaurant. Not only that but it took 45 minutes for a quesadilla and soup. The food was so gross all of it tasted like it was old. We didn’t finish any of it!! Waste of 40$

Google
This is chilaquiles?? I ordered steak and egg chilaquiles, but I got so much more than I was expecting. Everything was cooked and prepared terrifically, and it tasted excellent. I had ordered pupusas as well, but they forgot to prepare those for me…oh well! Guess it’s another excuse to go back! Really enjoyed the food and atmosphere here, and prices were competitive for the quality and portions.

Yelp
Walking distance away from me and have gone many times. The pupusas are overpriced and not worth the cost compared to other options close by. Music is too loud on weekend nights. And waitresses very often make mistakes on the order, though they'll offer to correct them. The chilaquiles are good. But went too soon before closing time one night and they served me burnt pupusas.

Yelp
Too many disappointing experiences. Can't remember a single good one. First time, I ordered a fried corn tamale and got served a boiled corn tamale. Sent it back, and the waitress asked me if I knew how to fry a tamale. I gave her instructions. A few months later, they had updated their menu to charge more for fried corn tamales, and I had learned to stop ordering them because they were rarely done well. Tried the fried yucca once, and it was very hard and inedible. They don't boil the yucca before frying it. Went during happy hour once for the 2-for-1 drink special, and then they didn't want to honor it because I got different drinks. Instead of charging the price of the more expensive drink, they charged for both but made the cheaper drink half price. Going during a weekend night? You won't be able to talk to whoever you go with, even if there's barely anyone else there and it's not karaoke night. The music is often unbearably loud because the owner (who just sits there staring at customers) wants it to feel like a club. Final straw was being served pupusas that were burnt on the outside and semi-raw on the inside. They turned the heat up so high to try to cook the pupusas as fast as possible that the pupusas were both burnt and undercooked. A pupuseria that can't even cook pupusas is a disgrace. Gave them too many chances, and will never go back again.

Yelp
At 7pm on a Friday I had to come by again to eat the same thing, cos it's my favorite thing to eat out!! The breaded fish filet!! Wow,this time they actually served me 1 filet and 1/2? Wow..I was lucky that they served me more fish Again, a wonderful experience! Highly recommend the food. The service was fast too. It's a great place to eat a home style cooked hot meal. You can't beat that! The Central American music videos were playing in 2 large Screens in front of you, so the atmosphere has gotten very upbeat, indeed! I really enjoyed the Vibe, though again I was alone..Lol Boohoo

Yelp
If I could leave 0 stars I would, this place lacks basic restaurant etiquette. Server had RBF the entire service we only saw her twice once to order and second when she brought out the food. Never asked if we needed refills or how we were doing. This place tries to gouge every penny out of its customers, from 1.50 charges for using your card to already including their tip. Which there is no sign anywhere saying tip is automatically added. If this place figured their ish out then maybe customers would be more than happy to voluntarily leave a tip. Not to mention the ambience is outdated it looks like a strip club inside, especially with the music they had blasting a full volume. Like seriously?? Food is mid at best nothing special, should have gone to subway instead.

Yelp
I ordered Honduran food and my husband SalvadorIan. None of them were authentic. A restaurant shouldn't offer a variety of culture dishes and serve the same items on all of them.

Yelp
la mesera nos atendió bien pero la comida está horrible pedí un pollo con tajadas el pollo no sabe a nada y las tajadas tostadas la verdad no lo recomiendo está fea la comida

Yelp
This is now and forever my go-to place for Pupusas and all things delicious. The staff are wonderful and are very friendly to anyone who comes in. There menu is listed for many good signature dishes from Mexico to Central America. My kids now live pupusas more than anything now that they tasted them here and now asking for more. I give them an F for Flippofantasmicastronomically Delicious. They should continue doing the Lords work by giving family, friends, and big groups a wonderful place to eat. But onvthe condition you bring who knows Spanish (Respectfully)

Yelp
This place was recommended & is perfect when your craving a home cooked meal just like moms cooking. As you walk in your greeted with aromas from your favorite childhood foods. From beginning to end the host was very attentive & made us feel right at home. We ordered the Molcajete that consisted of a little bit of everything such as, chicken, beef, pork, shrimp, cheese & veggies. A salsa is served at the center of it all & is accompanied by tortillas. The pupusa revuelta had the perfect balance of cheese, pork & beans. As I enjoyed my food I noticed a bar with a great selection & they host Karaoke too!

Yelp
Great food and great service. The Honduran food was really authentic. Would definitely recommend to anyone that's visiting in Vegas.

Yelp
First time here and it did not disappoint! We tried their pupusa and Mexican enchiladas! The pupusa were definitely worth the drive! I will be back to try other dishes. The service was great! They have a karaoke section as well, so it was a little loud, but I didn't mind it! Must try!

Yelp
Primera visita a este, me pareció un buen servicio y la comida fue a un nivel intermedio., la parte menos agradable es la música que tienen de fondo, la bachata no representa al país de Honduras, esperamos tomen en cuenta mi opinión. Hasta pronto!

Yelp
Me and my husband were visiting from San Francisco. We woke up hung over and hungry for some Honduran food. We didn't think there would be a restaurant in Las Vegas like this . It's off the main strip but alot of parking and beats all the crowds. From the outside it looks closed but its not. When you walk in its actually pretty big inside. We were greeted by a young nice girl who was very attentive. She gave us chips with a warm sauce and crumbled cheese...it was good ! We got the fried chicken with coleslaw and a good sauce on top with tejadas . I really enjoyed it the chicken was hella crispy just the way I like it. The horchata was bomb!!! Good flavor Overall I had a really good experience. I just think they need to make the outside look more welcoming and they would get alot more business. This is a hidden gem ...they offer so many different types of Latino food !! I would love to see them be successful

Yelp
Ugh I wish I could write a raving review about this place. This is the second time we tried this place. The first time it was a weekday and was super empty, and the second time we came in on a Saturday where it seemed like every booth was just about full. This place looks like it gets lit during the weekends because there is a huge open area that could be the dance floor and when we arrived this time the music was blasting. The Both times we came we especially came in for the pupusas. And if it wasn't for anything else I would rate this place a five stars. Because the food was so delicious. But The service was horrible both times. I never like to make reviews based off of race but if I look Hispanic and don't speak it I tend to get disappointed reactions most of the time it doesn't bother me but this time idk I left feeling some sort of way. I came in with my wife and a few friends. We wanted to enjoy a few pupusas and some beers over a nice conversation. Our server didn't come to check on us she basically took our order and someone else who didn't understand English brought us our food when we asked for something else while she was delivering our food such as extra cabbage etc. she gave me a quizzical look and said she don't understand. And sorta waited if I'd speak Spanish, since I don't she sorta looked at me in disgust then walked away .... oops my bad I don't speak Spanish!!! So we had to wait extra long to get our original servers attention. All in all I personally didn't feel welcome judging by the lack of help we got verses what everyone else got... oh well at least the food was bomb and the beers were cold off to find a better pupusas place!

Yelp
I had a Fantastic Time here. I am excite to head back. The ships had warm salsa on top and Parmesan cheese and it seemed like Karaoke was just about to kick off What pulled me in was the location- I immediately asked for some Jamaica- and then needed to know if hey served a Nachos. It's a quiet place with less than ten tables along the front windows and maybe another ten to fifteen more tables. As far as Vegas goes it's not small- but it's small. So better service and you can catch your server every few seconds cause it's up close and personal. It has a nice sized bar for seating of a dozen. Also was happy to see either the manager or the owner or a table of matriarchs chilling near the door.

Yelp
Worst service ever! and the food is crap if you want to wait an hour and half for your food while they serve everyone else...then this is the place for you. Not only do they spill the beer on you...as they serve It they also charge you full price. They will try to make things better with a plate of rice and beans ...Osea No mamen! Horrible! Horrible!

Yelp
We just love coming to this place, service is always top notch, all the staff is great but Marizol is just THE BEST . The food is extremely tasty. Really like their pupusas, chicken soup and the fried cheese, very tasty! Fun, up beat atmosphere, with Dj on the weekends for people to dance.

Yelp
My hubby is Honduran and he's been wanting to take me to an authentic Honduran place. We were in Vegas for our wedding weekend and decided to have our Sunday brunch here. The place is in a shopping center with a bunch of other little stores and when we walked in, we were greeted and and lead to our table. The waitress didn't rush us for our drinks or orders and let us have time to think about it. I definitely got a michelada with modelo and man oh man, that hit the spot and almost swigged it down in one sip, almost. We went with an array of different food; baleadas, yuca frita con chicharrones, platanos conchicharrones, Sopa de Caracol and more beer, LOL!! My hubby Sopa de Caracol said it was AHHMAZING and much needed to cure his hangover since we got married the night before and was up till the sun came up. I got the baleadas with carne and it was perfect, hit the spot and yuca frita con chicharrones is always BOMB!!! I'm pretty sure when we go back to Vegas, this will be a for sure place to stop and eat.

Yelp
Central America may be small but their diversity in food is superb! This restaurant offers different Central American dishes that have such a great taste! Everything from breakfast dishes, to lunch and large dinner dishes! You can never go wrong with some Salvadorian Pupusas, my favorite are the cheese Pupusas, or if you want to try some Honduran food I highly recommend the " Pollo con tajadas" which means Chicken with Banana Chips! It is by far one the most juiciest, tastiest, most colorful and delicious dish you will ever taste, It consists of chicken, of course- Fried banana chips, Covered in cabbage, red onion, and their special sauce! For breakfast, you can never go wrong with a Salvadorian " Casamiento" it's rice mixed with red beans, scrambled eggs with veggies, a side of sour cream, cheese and some fried Bananas! The restaurant itself is very well kept, they have Karaoke on the weekends, and a dance floor! The only downside is that they do take a good while to bring out your food after you order, then again all Central American restaurants are the same. Won't stop me from coming back.

Yelp
This spot used to be amazing, and one of the very few you could experience authentic Honduran food. I've been coming here with my family since they first opened, and brought many friends here to introduce them to Honduran cuisine. It's had a good run, but I believe the Pandemic and changing ownership has really hurt the place. I had family in town and we brought a big group here for lunch yesterday. When we arrived it was half full but there were one or two groups waiting at the door to be seated. They took a while to seat us, and about 10 min later handed us menus. They handed half our party a different menu (we don't know why, one was an ala cart type menu and the other one had much fewer choices and geared more towards large groups). After some confusion, we all placed our order. An hour later, now the lunch rush gone, we still didn't get our food. Another hour passed and our food finally arrived, except for two ppl whose orders were forgotten. Yes, WE WAITED TWO HOURS + for our meal. When they finally came it was clear that the kitchen had opted to skip those two previously because they were out of some ingredients. I ordered a Baleada, it was MISSING 3 INGREDIENTS, no eggs, no beans, no cheese, but instead of telling me they couldn't fulfill the order they just made it with what they had and served it that way. We also had to remind them countless times for drink refills. I'm extremely dissatisfied, and it pains me to give them only one star, I've brought so many people here over the years and my fam used to love the place, but they are apparently also under new ownership and that may be why they have terrible service now. They chose to half ass our orders, were clearly severely understaffed, but charged us full price for everything even if it wasn't made correctly. That's a terrible thing to do to any customer. They don't care anymore. TLDR Don't bother unless you want to wait HOURS for your food that may or may not have all the ingredients.

Marvin M.

Yelp
Never Again!! Bad Customer Service, Nasty Food /Cool food/ We Waiting For Sopa De Res y Yuca for 1 hour, Stay Away from The Short Waitress Güera With Ponny Tail Has Bad Additude, She Threw A Basket of Chips on Our Tablet and Walk Off.

Yelp
I should have followed my gut instinct with this one. I was a few doors down here getting my hair cut and happened to park right in front of here. After I was done at the barbershop I decided to stop in here for lunch. I had a restaurant.com voucher for 5 off so I figured might as well give them a try. Walked in and noticed a strange smell that I couldn't quite tell what it was. Not many people in for a weekend afternoon which I should have seen as red flag. No wait so I hostess seated me quickly. When I asked about the restaurant.com voucher she said they no longer accept them, red flag number 2. I was starving by this point so I decided against my better judgement to stay. I order d something simple just a chicken quesadilla. When it arrived I noticed there were some aluminum foil shavings in the retried beans. Not a big deal since I didn't plan on eating them but that was red flag number 3. My chicken quesadilla had a decent flavor but it was very greasy. Weird but I ate it anyway. I regretted that decision later that evening. I did have some entertainment while dining here. There was a guy who came in and was talking loudly to himself over at the counter the entire time I was there. Over all I had a terrible experience here and would never come back.

Yelp
The food is amazing and delicious I actually whent 2 times will I was visiting LV The only bad thing is that service is not that great it's a 2 out of 5 but the food is a 10

Yelp
This place was very bad. We walked in and got seated within 10 minutes. The waitress barely spoke English so I gave her the order in Spanish. We waited over 45 minutes and never got served. We watched as guests that seemed local were catered too but we were ignored. We paid for one soda and three juices and the bill was over $15 dollars. No concern about us leaving. The waitress seemed bothered that the order was never cooked but our satisfaction was not her concern. Don't waste your time in this place and FYI stay away from the shrimp we saw an order returned from one table were one person was going to throw it out and another took it to be saved until later.
google avatar

Kamille V.

Yelp
This is a spot I always visit when I come to Vegas but lately they've been disappointing. First off, they only gave us a single fork and knife for an order of $50+ worth of food. We're not from the area so we didn't have any extra utensils laying around. The food was alright, it'd be better if it wasn't too greasy. The grease was leaking from the bag. It's a good place if you're really hungry and willing to cope with the downfalls.
google avatar

Yelp
Is this place a fancy restaurant? No. Do the bathrooms need some cleaning? Yes. Was the food freaking amazing? Yes! The staff was friendly are food served promptly. Our first day in Las Vegas was already a hit with this place we just happened to stumble upon outside the strip. Highly recommend that you come here and order the ceviche oysters and molca jete! So good!!

Yelp
I came here for dinner before a play at UNLV because I wanted to try their pupusas. I first had pupusas in East Los Angeles and that place set the bar high for anyone to match. Rincon Catracho made it over the bar. As others have mentioned, Spanish is the language at Rincon. My server could not understand me. I pointed at the menu and read the Spanish for the two flavors I was ordering. The server turned to a young man who translated for me. Gracias #1. After getting my diet Coke and while waiting for my pupusas, a woman at an adjoining table asked me if I really wanted one to eat there and one to take home. When I said no, she sent her son to tell the server the error and the correction was made. Gracias #2. While waiting, she brought my slaw and tomato sauce. All the while I enjoyed the complimentary chips topped with a tomato sauce and cotija cheese. They were very good and I almost finished the basket before I left. Soon the server brought my two pupusas--one cheese and loroco and one cheese and pork. I heaped the slaw on top both and squeezed the tomato sauce onto these hot goodies. They were excellent! Time was getting to be a factor. I Googled menu in Spanish on my phone but by the time the server came back, rather than ask for a menu, I remembered flan and that I can say. That's what I ordered and it was very good, too! My server was a delightful young woman with a great smile. My problem with her was that she was having a good time with the young guys at the next table and that was the cause for my time constraint. I also think she had a hard time dealing with my lack of Spanish. Next time I go, I'll do one of two things--take one of my Spanish speaking friends from Yelp or mark things down from the menu and just hand them the paper with my order, gabacho that I am. This place is good and I will make a return visit. Pupusas to go to enjoy at home? You betcha!

Leslie J.

Yelp
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
Service was horrible, and tables were dirty! Waitresses took for ever to attend. I asked waitress to wipe table because it was dirty. She push crumbs off table with her hand.

Yelp
ANOTHER BOOKMARK CHECKED OFF. Based on the reviews, I had my mind made up to try any one of their pupusas. As I enter their nice sized restaurant, I am greeted by one of the very nice servers. "Hola!" she says. I just smile and make my way to one of their tables. I still have flashbacks to my Tacos El Gordo incident (refer to my review). So while im looking at the menu, she brings me chips with some kind of cheese and salsa on them to snack on. So im trying to decide which pupusas to get when out of nowhere my eye catches a picture on the menu of scrambled eggs and skirt steak. I point at it and say I want this. She smiles at me and says in a sexy Latin accent, "Chilaquiles?" Now whether or not she knew I didnt speak Spanish did not matter any more. I smile and say "Si!" After my meal I am thinking about making a trip to Central America because if their food is like this than sign me up for a Latin Food crawl! Of course I'm gonna need a translator because I will be too busy eating! Service was great. I like the vibe these ladies put out. Kind of like when you are new in town and they wanna show you their hospitality. I think next time I will definitely order a pupusas or two. So again I don't know how to speak Spanish but when it comes to good food, my stomach understands just fine!
google avatar

Suzanna M.

Yelp
We came in here to try the 7 mares soup and was extremely disappointed. When the soup came out I thought it was a joke. It looked like someone's leftovers. The 1 crab leg that was in there was empty/picked. When I brought this to the attention of the waitress she said the portions vary. This was an unacceptable explanation for me.

Yelp
Stopped in since we were in the mood for some Central American breakfast action...The staff here are always so welcoming and their food is simple, straightforward and delicious! The Plantains with Beans and Sour Cream are plentiful and great for sharing. I also got the Baliada"con todo"(With everything)- A fresh flour tortilla with eggs, beans, avocado, and sour cream. You also can't come here and not try their pupusas...They have added chicken, shrimp, and Squash blossom pupusas recently. Stop in any time you feel like trying something other than your usual American breakfast fare...ALOHA!!! YELP 365 CHALLENGE-(131/365) "Central American Soul Food"

Yelp
We came to eat here on Friday. We've come here for years and have always liked the food. This time my daughter started getting sick in the middle of the night. The next day I became violently ill as well. We had only eaten here, and I know this was where we ended up getting sick. I will never step foot in here again.

Yelp
A good place to eat and have fun good service clean and friendly Although my first time in a Honduran restaurant I will say was great!!!

Yelp
So glad we had enough time to stop at this place after a visit to LA. Although we were in a hurry, the service was very good, the food very tasty; we tried their pupusas a and some type of chilaquiles. My kids loved them! The place seemed clean but it was cluttered, lots of stuff hanging on the walls and the window coverings were old and somewhat dusty. I should recommend them a good cleaning service to make the place look better. I dont mean to be critical about the entire place. The bottom line is that the service was good and the food was tasty.

Ingrid M.

Yelp
I like to pick up some pupusas sometimes after work. I order on the phone and then I pick them up but when they're not ready the ladies always offer chips with their tasty salsa and some cheese on top and no charge. They always ask me if I need something while I wait. They are nice and I'll always be back
google avatar

Ana M.

Yelp
My dad loves to come here. He loves karaoke nights. The service is always good, this place is always busy, food is good and the micheladas are bomb! Not a lot of places make bomb micheladas like this place. Anyways we always have fun when we come here.

Alicia C.

Yelp
Waited over an hr for our food, the waitress served us the wrong food. Didn't bring our drinks I had to get up and request the drink for the 3rd time. When I told her my soups does not have caracol she just said, "oh"walked away. The food was not that great. It's a shame, they put bad taste to Honduran culture/food. Don't waste your $ here.

Yelp
Great service, amazing pupusas! First place I've found in LV that actually has loroco for the pupusas. Absolutely recommend this place!

Yelp
Being a Honduran native I always try to find quality Honduran restaurants. I came to Rincon Catracho years ago, but now that I moved to Vegas I been here often. The food and the atmosphere is great, and you feel like you are actually in Honduras. The customer service is delightful, specially from Daniela who is always very attentive. Mi gente come and try this restaurant, and support our Honduran community.

Yelp
A homeless guy bothered me inside the restaurant but the employees didn't seem to care! He freaked me out by talking nonsense to me (he spoke different languages "konichiwa, nihao, £@%#*) to get my attention cause im Asian) He looked very weird and creepy! I tried to ignore but he came to the table and sat in front of me creeping me out. Food wasn't worth its price! Very disappointed at the portion and the taste! Maybe not my day! I thought it was close to my place so i gave it a try but first was also the last time.

Yelp
This is an odd location and has even stranger signage, but I took a leap of faith and gave it a shot ... I ordered ceviche which I was craving and was pleasantly surprised and how good it was. The music can be annoying and the service isn't great, but I did enjoy the food and it is close by.

Yelp
We came here again because we loved it so much the first time around. But it was unfortunately a fail, the service was horrible, the food came out like an hour late, we didn't even get a drink until our food came. We order our drinks first and the waiter did not come until everything came out. The food was coming out slowly one plate at a time so everyone didn't eat together... like literally my mom got her plate, then 5-8mins later my boyfriend got his and so on and so forth. We were a party of 8 so you could imagine how slow it was. Food came out hot but it didn't taste so good either. My little sisters food took the longest. Everyone had already finished their food and they still didn't bring in her food. My mother had to get up to and ask the staff where my sisters food was. Minutes later it came out. I am disappointed with the service, I feel embarrassed for bringing my family here because this was there first day in Las Vegas and it wasn't a good time unfortunately. Do not recommend at all!!! By the way my little sister food which was enchiladas had a fly on it, She couldn't finish eating because of it! Save your money go somewhere worth while, because this place isn't it.

Yelp
Worst place ever! Waited almost an hr to get my food. To top it off it was not worth it. My 7 mares soup was over salted and the pupusas had no taste. Will never visit this place when I come to vegas again.
