Ringo Curry - Review - International District - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Silky Japanese curry made with apples is the name of the game at this casual CID restaurant. The sauce is simple and subtly fruity, best over the delicate omelet paired with a meaty hamburg patty. And though the pork cutlet curry trends tough with a breading that seems determined to plop right off, other dish hiccups are generally minor. We also appreciate small touches in the dining room like good candy at the host stand (no gross dinner mints here). A sign posted up front preps you for a potential wait, but the place is pleasantly efficient on a weekday afternoon and makes for an easy sit-down lunch." - Kayla Sager-Riley

Lovely no-nonsense place that serves delicious omurice in the ID. Vegetarians have a few options. They even make a tofu curry for those that don't eggs. The food was flavorful and rich. We got our orders within a minute of placing them! The miso soup was on point as was the omurice. The consistency of the sauce was just right and the spice level hit a spot. I'll be back for more!

Great food! I came for lunch and got the karaage and chicken katsu curry. While the curry could've packed a little more heat (on me for getting 2 instead of 3 stars) the food was all around great! If definitely has the good taste of japanese curry that I miss from my time there. Their karaage is also fantastic.

I ordered for pickup so I didn't expect the katsu to be that crispy which was fine. We both ordered the chicken cutlet with egg, level 2 and 5. The curry was pretty good, and so was the egg, but the cutlet felt a little stale to me (again, ignoring the part where it wasn't too crispy from transport). They package the curry separately for takeout which is very nice of them. There were plenty of tables for walk-ins when we went on a weekday evening.

Visited on a Saturday during prime dinner time and was surprised to find the restaurant pretty empty considering the hype after being featured by a few local food bloggers. The food was pretty good, the pork was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and the curry was also quite tasty. I was mildly disappointed overall though with some of the add-on items. It was $8.50 to make your meal a combo (includes a miso soup, salad, and green tea) and both items were not good. The green tea was more like yellow colored water, and the salad was also just blah. Overall, I'd say the experience was okay, but considering how difficult it is to find parking in ID and the overwhelming selection of restaurants nearby, I don't think this would be my food of choice again.

Google
Perfectly fried chicken katsu in a nicely designed atmosphere. We also tried the omuraisu with spinach. The egg was cooked well and the spinach a nice counterpoint to the curry. Put this in your list if you’re looking for a good value meal before an event.

If you're craving authentic Japanese curry, Ringo Curry hits the spot. The staff was welcoming from the moment we walked in, and service was quick no waiting around, just straight to the good stuff. The curry itself was rich, savory, and full of that classic depth you only get overseas. One bite and I was right back in Japan. The curry was familiar, comforting, and ridiculously satisfying. The katsu was crispy, the sauce was silky and packed with flavor, and it all just came together perfectly on the plate. Simple. Fast. Delicious. If you love Japanese curry, put this place on your list.

Ordered two pork katsu sets, along with a small paid upgrade to a set menu (salad and tea) and takoyaki. Unfortunately, the food was extremely disappointing. The only item that was even remotely acceptable was the takoyaki, which still felt pre-made rather than freshly prepared. The salad included in the set did not look fresh, and despite paying extra, both the salad and tea were forgotten and had to be reminded. The biggest issue was the pork katsu itself. While it looked fine visually, the taste was shockingly poor — dry, bland, and so unappetizing that it was difficult to finish. I’ve had pork katsu all over the world, and this was far below the standard I would expect for pork katsu. I usually don’t leave reviews for restaurants unless the experience is very positive, but the katsu here was bad enough that I felt compelled to say something. Considering the price, this experience was especially disappointing. The only reason this review is not one star is that the staff were polite, but the food quality alone would not bring me back or make this a place I could recommend.

Came here for lunch on a friday! I am a huge curry fan and I was excited to try this place out. I was in heaven at first bite, it did not disappoint. I really loved the refreshing sweetness of the apple poking thru the savory curry. The ability to customize your dish with different spice levels and toppings makes me so happy. I might have to come here weekly, this is my new favorite restaurant in Seattle!

Yelp
This place just recently open like Jan 5th-6th of 2025. My group was pretty big- 6 people and we arrived at opening time but still managed to wait about 1.5-2 hours for our food. I felt like there was one server (She did great) for the whole restaurant and possibly one cook, I don't think they predicted how fast the words spread from an influencer. I saw a reel from Seattlefoodieadventure and definitely was craving curry especially with Seattle Weather. I normally never go to a restaurant during soft opening or even when they are still new since it gets packed and they still working on small changes. I would like to come back maybe in 6 month or so and try this place again.

Yelp
I had the pork katsu imelet curry at a level 2 spice. The curry sauce itself is quite nice. Good body, nice spice, and very rich. Nicely done. The problem lies in the rest of the dish. Wholly bland and dusappointing. The pork katsu was very dry and overcooked. The eggs were disappointingly unseasoned as well. At least mix in a bit of dashi or salt into the eggs and brine your pork.

Yelp
Opened a week ago. Soft opening through Jan 5, 2024. **Caution wait times can be long right now. My rating is subtracting the wait times. Food- quality casual food!! *omelette curry with chicken katsu. Curry flavor good. Spicy level option 1-5. I got 1 and it has a tiny heat my 8 year can tolerate but not my little one. Flavor was good. Chicken moist. Egg tender and slightly ooey gooey. *pork katsu set. Moist, straight forward. Good presentation. Not sure what the fresh sesame seeds to self crush are to be used for. Told later for to katsu sauce. *takoyaki. Standard, though I felt this was sauced a little too heavy and the tako was small and chewy. Service- staff was kind, small business. Soft opening, under staffed as they were not expecting the crowds after an influencer/content creator post. Took 45 min to get seated. 5 min to get our order and 60 min to get our food. I share this for customer awareness, set your expectations for now. Ambiance- great remodel, clean, pleasing. Location- corner of Maynard and Weller. Parking lot available across the street, or street parking. Value- fair. Recommend- if you're craving some quality curry, this is your place!

Yelp
After ordering, we waited over AN HOUR for the food to come out. This was already 3pm. We were told the wait for table was 45 minutes but it actually took over an hour. After ordering we waited 1+ hour for the food to be served. But the entire time staff did not seem apologetic about the wait. Everyone else was also waiting. During my entire time dining there, only about 8 dishes came out the kitchen. Waiting for the food was also difficult because it was really cold in there, I had my jacket on the whole time. Given that the place is new I think they still have a lot of logistics to figure out. The food was ok. Katsu was mediocre and a little dry. Curry sauce was flavorful and had a nice spice . Omelette was not an omelette like you would expect for omurice, it was a sheet of egg over the rice.

Yelp
A very welcome addition, an uplift to the ID. Where new is new, bright lights, high ceilings, open space, and tasty Japanese Curry! A pleasure to be the first to review and upload photos! Soft Opening, and I give it a solid 4 Stars (usually my 4 = 4.5-5 easily for others). This review is based on everything. Love the space. In the location formerly known as Ho Ho, Ringo Curry now exists and I expect it to for a long time. Why? The curry is delicious. The rice is well cooked. Omelet near fluffy but not quite there. The pork and chicken cutlets while not super juicy, but are large, tasty, and satisfying. Spice levels need to be explored further, it basically goes from 1-2, then to 5? A bit confusing there, but 1-2 Star is free, and next level 5 is extra. The 2 Star had a mild spice level, so next time the 5 it is. There are 2 sizes, Regular and Large, the regular was plenty for me + Sausage. Go with the Regular size curry so you can order more sides. Our wonderful server suggested to add the sausage as a side and was very glad she did. A perfect side, and had a smoky flavor - this is a side that will always be ordered when coming here. The Nabes look really good too and should be perfect for the winter months ahead. The pricing is very fair. So the quality+value is solid. Just wish the meals had a slightly higher temperature to them. I do understand that certain foods need to be near room temperature for optimal flavor, but I like to see some steam from my food, which there was none. To be very clear, none of it was cold, but rather warm, and still was delicious!!! Soft Opening don't forget! But off to an excellent start. See you often :) Pretty sure some Yelp Elite events need to be had here. :)

Yelp
New restaurant that is ~2 weeks old so I want to give it some grace hence 3 star review. We arrived at 11:35am, opening is 11:30am and they did not look ready. Someone was carrying rice into the back. 75% of the tables were full at that time and a sticky note waitlist developed shortly after we were seated. We were told there would be a wait for food which is understandable but we did not understand how long it would be. An hour later the food still had not come and I asked the lady server what was going on as I watched tables who got seated after us get food before us. She clearly did not take the orders in the order of seating. I also watched 2 employees? 2 family? 2 friends? sit and eat before half the dining room got food. After these 2 finished eating, they got up to help clear plates and tables. There was no urgency at all. The lady server was running around by herself while this man and woman were casually eating their katsu in the middle of the dining room. There was also only 1 PERSON cooking and he arrived after the dining room was full. The kitchen was super slow. It was literally one dish coming out at a time and then space another 5-10 mins before another one would be brought out. I would have been okay with the wait if the food were good. That was the final death sentence for this place. Seattlefoodieguy said this was the best curry he had ever had but this was among my worst curries. It was watery and bland. It had a bit of spice but I find boxed curry more flavorful. The tonkatsu which should also be a star of the show was also dry. This place needs so much work if they are to survive.

Yelp
Service: opened two weeks ago, looks like the restaurant is still getting its feet on the ground and took almost 45 min for our food to come out. Staff were very nice about it and provided us with some miso soup for the wait as our food came out at separate times and some of us had already finished eating. Inside is spacious with comfortable booth and table seating, you don't have to feel cramped when eating here and the decor is pretty given it is a new place. Now for the food. The karaage was insanely juicy and very tasty, it made me wish there was a spicy seasoned option similar to Taiwanese popcorn chicken. The curry had an enjoyable thinner consistency and good spice level for a level 2, not underwhelming and I pleasant short lingering spice. Unfortunately, the rest of the components fell flat. The omelette is just a thin layer of cooked egg over the rice. If you prefer your eggs fully cooked you won't mind this, however most omurice I've had in Japan are half cooked or slightly undercooked so that the inside is custardy and creamy. The hamburger steak was not juicy and lacked its own flavor. The pork cutlet katsu was breaded well and tasty, but was tough to cut and chew. Overall for the price, I don't think I will be coming back. 3 dishes and 1 appetizer rang up to $76. There was a lot of other things on the menu that we wanted to try but based off the flavor and price, I'll keep looking for a Japanese curry place that meets or exceeds places like coco ichibanya.

Yelp
The curry is perfect. Its taste and aroma is very authentic. The egg is fluffy and soft to my liking. The pork cutlet is nicely cooked, giving tenderness and perfect level of done. The portion also worth the price. It hit the spot and satisfy my hunger.

Yelp
This place is such a hidden gem! Server was super sweet and helpful in recommending dishes. We tried many items in the menu. All menu was so good! Especially, the curry was so perfect with spicy and aromatic curry with some fresh apple stew in their curry. The Kimji Nabe was good and perfect with the cold raining day in Seattle. Tonkatsu also good with great and chicken karake was super tasty and juicy. Can't wait to go back for get more and more!!
