If we ever win the lottery or somehow manage to worm our way into Rami Malek’s heart and hightail it out of London for a life of LA sunshine, one of the things we’d miss the most about this city is the charming, cheery little bakeries. Rinkoffs is one of London’s great little old-school bakeries and has been around since 1911. They serve all of the sweet British classics like chelsea buns, victoria sponge cake, and fruit scones, but they’ve also jumped on the crodough game. Part-doughnut, part-croissant, they usually sell out quickly. "Like many bakeries, Rinkoff’s is steeped in history and tradition. The Jewish bakery first opened in 1911 and has been making and supplying challah, pastries, and of course bagels, ever since. The century-old bakers is still in the family, from boys to mensch, and once you’ve had one of their smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels, you’ll understand why it’s such a Whitechapel favourite. Comfortingly doughy with a little bite to the exterior, this is a bagel for the ages." - jake missing
"Rinkoff’s is an old-school Whitechapel bakery that makes it their duty to get you your sugar-fix. The menu is pretty extensive - from red velvet to carrot cake, to lemon and polenta cakes and ‘crodoughs’. It’s a daytime only thing though. So order before 5pm." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing
