Driving range and chipping area are removed. No warm up area at all. Construction on 3/4 holes. Greens are half dead and full of pot holes. People are nice and layout is fun though.

The new management is spending lots of money to really spice up the fairways, tee boxes, and the food service and restaurant is top tier, it's the best Pizza and other food I've ever had in BAkersfield, ANYWHERE, I'm not joking can't say enough nice things about rio bravo in 2025 - please go and give it a chance

Recently revisited. Wow/ $100 green fees/ Driving Range ripped out for construction/ construction on the actual course has the Tee’s on the course moved/ half of the carts are not digital/ non existent club house/ Great place but for now under construction for a while.

This place is Beautiful form the moment you step inside. It has great views. I was here for a wedding reception and totally enjoyed it.

With new ownership in six months this place has completely turned around the word is we are only six months in to 10 year plan

Such a cute wedding space. I recently attended a wedding and this was such a cute location for a wedding. I would recommend this venue for special events.

Atmosphere was great. Very welcoming. Food is ok. Not worth the price. However, everyone is different. On my experience was went for an event and we ordered an appetizer platter and steak dinner. Took a very long time to get the steak dinner. Appetizer was missing sliders and they substituted that for jalapeño peppers. Which I do not like. It was just served on the table. No explanation. I didn’t notice that they were missing until I saw other platters later that evening. Steak was tough and bland. For $57 it wasn’t great. Now,this is my experience. I still had a great time and may order other food items or eat before elsewhere.

I'm a delivery driver who is constantly harassed at the gate. I'm tired of having to sit there while some paranoid old man checks my id every time. Your system makes me feel like a criminal when I'm delivering much needed items to your tenants.

Came here for a work golf tournament but I didn't actually play. The place is nice and the staff is pretty friendly. I imagine it's hard to keep the greens green with the Bakersfield heat, but aside from a few drier patches, overall it was nice.

Went over for Taco Tuesday dinner and a couple of drinks. Was greeted right away from a nice young lady who told us to sit wherever we like. We got a nice table overlooking the course with views of a beautiful sunset. Our waitress was Athena and she could not of been more attentive. She brought us fresh chips and salsa and took our drink order. After she brought our drinks she asked if we were ready to order. My girlfriend ordered the fajitas, chicken/asada rice and beans. I ordered the carne asada tacos with rice and beans. She said hers was great! I like my rice and beans hot and they were not but still tasty. Tacos had plenty of meat and good taste but could only finish 2 of the three. Overall I would say the meal was a 4 but the overall rating would be a 5 because of our server. Athena could not of been nicer, professional and well versed in her job.. I want to thank her for a nice dining experience. We'll be back!

With all the updates and changes with the grounds and carts this course is almost back to its beauty. I should say it will be better! The pizza with the out door oven is AMAZING! Our fries were hot and crispy. Wasn't a fan of the burger. The patty was too thick and was overcooked. The service was sub par. I had to request a server to place my order, retrieve our own silverware, and our ticket. She never checked on us. The manager was the only one who filled our drinks.

The good is the course is great to play! Not the best in town but definitely top three for fun. The course has been really nice to play on since the new owners. The bad it is definitely not a country club. It is not even private the atmosphere is that of a public course nothing more. Kind of turning into an attraction spot rather than a private country club.

I was rudely kicked off the golf course on the 18th hole for not finishing before curfew. It was our first time at the country club and did not expect such a rude group of individuals to run the golf course: I will definitely use the other courses in Bakersfield when in the area based on the unprofessional service alone.

Me and my son love playing golf at Rio Bravo. The pro shop staff and the restaurant & grill staff are professional & friendly individuals who truly take their work seriously. I consider myself a loyal customer.

The elderly gentleman at the gate is quite rude. I initially wrote it off as a bad day (we all have them), but it's every single time. Rude and seems as though he doesn't want to be here. Not friendly at all. Was trying to ask me to scoot my car forward a few inches, but he didn't say a word. Just had an exasperated look on his face while he did the exaggerated (come on, forward, this way) motion. I'm not asking for super chipper and chatty, but at least a basic level of friendliness should be expected.

I'm officially done giving this course opportunity's regardless how many times they sale this course or people try to convince you it's good....because it's not. How people pay a membership here is beyond me when there are so many better options for country clubs in this area. The $75 they are charging (5/31/24) per round is complete highway robbery for the course conditions. The driving range was in super bad condition including the grass that doesn't have divots but potholes everywhere. The balls were so old that I questioned whether they had dimples to begin with because they were missing. The course is attempting maintenance it seemed in all the wrong locations. Greens had fungus and weeds growing throughout including holes where's they have tried to dig out in the greens with the holes left there and no back fill. If you get off the fairways for the most part everything is dead and the only way they seem to keep anything green is by over watering it which makes for very inconsistent golf shots depending on water drainage and absorption on course. Some shots are soggy while others have zero absorption. After the first 6-7 holes the bunkers are back to concrete pits and there is zero levelness to most tee boxes. Only good thing was the update to the carts but even then you'll find yourself walking a mile where you have to park them to some of the greens. We also played behind a group of 5 that refused to allow anyone play through which made it 5 1/2 hour round. There is no beverage cart on the course and never has been in all the years I've come here off and on. After the round if you're not a member don't bother to stop for food or drink because the service is atrocious. Two members in front of me and a buddy of mine ordered two beers on tap and were served glass mugs. We ordered the same along with food and were served in plastic cups and when I asked why the guy said he ran out of glasses. The 3 guys behind us also members ordered beer and we watch the bartender serve them in cold glasses. If it's not your club your not welcome is the attitude you will get here. I couldn't imagine doing this to anyone I brought over as a guest as a Member myself to Stockdale C.C. I'll definitely be spreading the news among my fellow members to avoid this course and its members and staff and so should you. It's not worth your money your time and the aggravation you'll get coming out here.

They've done so much to improve this place! The golf course is the best in town! No one else has the rolling hills like they do. The staff is super friendly and the pizza is amazing.

Hit balls at the Golf Range. Super nice course. Very quite area and golf course is in good condition for the winter months. Super nice people at this club. Met some friendly guys and enjoy the game of golf.

I just moved to Rio Bravo and this was my second time dining here. The customer service is exceptional and the food is delish!

Just terrible. I've gone here multiple times and it always disappoints. The last time we went it was for football Sunday where they run this deal that comes with pizza, wings and some other sides. We came at 1 and was told the kitchen wasn't ready to make this game day special and wouldn't be ready until at least 4....so basically we were stuck with the breakfast menu until 4? We were told we could potentially get pizza at 2 but they're unsure. We had intended to meet up with others to eat and watch the game and left pretty quickly. The time before that we waited over 30 minutes to get our order taken only to have items missing and just never served. The bigger issue is we came just the week before even earlier than 1 and we were able to order the special. When we explained this we were just given a shoulder shrug. For subpar food I can't explain why I continue to come back. This last experience was just the law straw and I do not intend to go back. It's constantly under new management but never any improvement.

Great golf experience! The lay out was amazing! Looking forward to playing here again. My kids and I had a great time.

Absolutely everything in every way possible about this place is unprofessional and terrible service by the management, They tried to extort money out of my family over an event we had planned over seven months . Three managers over 7 months. Zero communication skills. Stay away from them if you want a reliable staff to work with. Arrogant out of touch people who have no clue what they're doing. They delete your bad reviews!! Rio bravo Country Club.. OWN UP TO IT! As i posted on here prior, Taco tuesday was not good. Our server (girl with glasses) was not friendly and had NO knowledge of the menu. Only thing OK were the drinks. Food was decent. I would definitely NOT be bringing my money here again!!!!! My Wife and I have seen this place decline throughout the years; looks like the new peeps in charge can't fix it either.

Fastest Greens in town! All the remodeling is starting to look nice as well, I heard they're going to do a top golf style driving range. Can't wait.

Poor service, very rude.... We showed up at 8:45 to meet some friends for drinks & we were told the kitchen was closing in 15 mins. After being served the worst Old Fashion we've ever had in our lives (tasted like it had chemicals in it), we were bullied into leaving. After all this we found out they wanted to close early because they had a event the next morning. There was no sign posted and the manager was terribly awkward calling the waitress his "babe" and staring at us because we were the last ones there. I've never felt so unwelcomed anywhere in my life.

Have you ever found a restaurant that has the most amazing food and for some reason, while all the restaurants around it have lines out the door, your find is only getting adequate business? Has that frustrated you, but pleased you just the same? You want that restaurant to do well so it stays in business, but you also want to keep that secret all to yourself so you won't have to wait in lines forever before getting your food? You know exactly what I'm talking about. And that is exactly how I feel about Rio Bravo Country Club. And I hope with everything in my being that I don't end up regretting my decision to write this review. OK, now let's start this review for real. I'm not holding an event there, so this review is not about that. I haven't eaten there, so this review is not about that, either. This review is about the golf -- and that golf is absolutely amazing. As in unbelievable. As in incredible. Dare I say it? Yes, I will. Rio Bravo Country Club is the best golf course in Kern County. And that golf course is not played by many people, making it even better. Yes, I played Kern River a couple of weekends ago and I saw all of the cut-off jeans crowd cranking "Sweet Home Alabama" on their portable speakers loud enough for the entire golf course to hear. When did we turn into a society in which we care so little about anyone else? That common etiquette is thrown out the door because it's what I want and no one else matters? It's a sad state, but the good news is that you won't find that at Rio Bravo. Going to Rio Bravo is like being a million miles away. And it almost is if you live in the southwest as I do, but it's worth every minute of the drive across town through all of the traffic and construction once you're on the course. The greens are the fastest in town forcing a golfer to focus on staying beneath the hole, and that 600-plus-yard, uphill, par-5 11th hole is an absolute challenge each and every time. But wait a second! You're not a member! How can you play golf here when you're not a member? Here comes the part I hope I don't regret telling the world: you don't have to be a member to play golf here. The course is open to the public after 10 a.m. So grab your polo and khakis, clean up your golf clubs, leave your portable speaker at home, and get out and enjoy the hidden gem that is Rio Bravo Country Club. Just be sure to not make it too crowded...

Easter Brunch was amazing. food was superb, mimosas galore and they had activities and prizes for the kids. they gave the kids easter baskets, they did raffles and had bounce houses. the staff were so friendly and hospitable. we had a wonderful time.

We had a great time of 11 people that I got together for Cinco de Mayo and the Saturday prior with great music! We sat outside both times at the premier place of Bakersfield!

Love the course, greens are difficult and the golf is fun! rough needs better mowing though.

I keep giving this place opportunity after opportunity to change my mind but todays attempt to play this course once again left me dismayed at what the management is trying to do with is this course. First the bad, pro shop staff seems to change monthly and are simply not Country Club level staff, they can't manage a tee sheet. Single golfers aren't placed on a waiting list and then put with a 3some or a 2some, no here singles play alone. The entire premise of having a course filled with foursomes goes right out the window due to the pro shop staff not taking charge of the first tee. Members the few they have can play in any sized group they wish I have seen 8somes down to 2somes and it is very common to see a single stuck in between a 2some and a 3some. This is the starters or the pro shop attendees JOB but for some reason they don't see it that way. The members are those who must not be pissed off, so you never get to play with a member if you're a single golfer. This place is mostly hit and wait as there a ZERO marshals to move the play along and carts are optional which creates another element of slow play as a 70 year old member insists he can walk the course in 4:15 which is every courses target round time, that number make play move and the cash register ring. Carts should be mandatory as this is a very hilly course with quite a few large hikes from greens to the next tee. Now for the course, this is where I just shake my head in disbelief that Management treats what is a nice layout as if it were a $20 muni. The day I was there the trees were being trimmed and many were being removed this is an expensive maintenance project for any club but as I looked around the course there still was no sand in the bunkers, the collars around the greens had not been maintained properly as the native rough had been allowed to grow into the surrounds so at some point those too will have to either be let go and turned into rough shrinking the size of the green or intense maintenance will be required to pull the long strands of kikuyu grass out of them before it creeps into the putting surfaces. The place during the winter normally has rough but this trip fairways and rough were mowed to the same height of as close to dirt as possible. the only areas of the course I saw that were being maintained properly were the greens themselves and the rough around them, the tee boxes had not been leveled in many years and most even on the par threes were shaved down to fairway height. The range for some reason has been allowed to be turned into a dirt patch and is decent enough compared to the other public facilities in Bakersfield which are cow pasture pool tracks that are keep so poorly they are unplayable and Rio Bravo for all the potential this facility has it still after years of hoping they would get their act together so that I would never have to write a review such as this but alas things are only getting worse at this semi private club. Whoever owns it should make a decision either charge the members what it costs to maintain a real private country club or go public and spend money on PGA of America pros to run the place and make it a golf course again. Right now it is a typical Bakersfield golf course, terrible bunkers, even worse fairways and rough with tee boxes that are just worn out. The management says no music allowed or outside refreshments but all too often you can find a typical Bakersfield golfer standing on a par 3 hitting 2 dozen shots everywhere except to the green, boombox blaring and a cooler full of beer riding shotgun in his cart. I have waited 5 years for this place to change its ways and there seems to be little desire to improve the facility, I was hoping it would go fully private and then invest in upgrading the course but the course is going backwards and downhill at the same time. This course of inaction will soon make the entire place a developers dream.

If you haven't played this track in a while, you are missing out! The course is in great shape, greens are rolling fast and are in very excellent condition. Not much traffic here so 4 hour rounds are doable! Tee it high and let it fly!

Does anyone work in the catering and events? I've emailed, called numerous times, left messages and NOBODY will get back with me. I'm inquiring for a good friend for a small event in January and cannot get any response. I run a very responsible efficient venue in town and never treat potential clients like this... very unprofessional!

Played on 4/09/22. Course is in ok shape. Range is mats and not grass, which is a negative but the range balls are unlimited. Cart fees are suspect. A foursome only need 2 carts. Tried to strong arm me into paying 4 cart fees. Not cool. $60 to play then tried to slap a "cart fee" on top of it. I didn't pay the extra. No other public course in Kern County does this. Not sure why Rio Bravo thinks they can pull this off. Kern River golf course is as nice (maybe even a touch nicer) and is cheaper and doesn't pul this type of thing.

Fairways were bad. Greens were absolutely terrible. Feels as though no one has attempted upkeep for the last year.

A great 18 hole private golf course that offers their signature hole #11, a 600 yard par 5 challenge. Love it. The food is great and staff is terrific. This is the best value for private members. Maybe best value in California.

The country club is under new ownership and has been working hard to find the right path to be successful . Like most they have had their ups and downs. Keeping it simple well just say Cafe Med had a short run there and is no longer, I do think they took away some good ideas and Hence let's move forward, My family and I went Sunday Night back to the Club house for dinner. They have updated the menu and added BBQ as a Weekend Special. Open flame on a Santa Maria grill. My Son and I both ordered the NewYork, My wife the Salmon and my Daughter the Veggie Burger. Let me tell you, This was one of the best Flavored/Cuts of NewYorks I have had in Bakersfield!!! The steaks are farmed and raised locally and hand cut. I can't even tell you how many ounces this thing was it was HUGE!!!!, Juicy, Flavorful and delicious!!! If your looking for a break in the norm you MUST come out and try, You do not need to be a member just tell the guard your here to eat at the Restaurant. Also worth noting, My daughter also commented that the Veggie burger was also one of the best tasting ones she's had ever!! And my wife thoroughly enjoyed the salmon.....Oh and they had $5 margaritas lol

I found myself way out here for a Bar Mitzvah. I don't know, maybe this is hi end for Bakersfield but not too impressive. Thank goodness that the vendors for this event had a clue as to what is supposed to go on at a Bar Mitzvah Party because the catering people didn't. The food was marginal, the room was average, basically 2 stars for dumpiness.

Under new leadership. After years of neglect by previous owner/management Rio Bravo Country Club is trying to make a comeback. We had dinner with friends on Friday night. Food was good, service was good, and view is great. We wish the new management great success.

Such a great time here today. Beautiful weather and awesome scenery. Staff was great (especially the bartender). Greens soft on approach fast and smooth on the putts. It's been over 20 years since I played here and can't wait til the next time.

The Rio Bravo Country Club (RBCC) blindsided my fiance and I. We received a letter indicating that they had made the decision to cancel our wedding reception. Our wedding is two months away, and now we are left scrambling looking for an alternate venue. The RBCC not calling to notify us of their decision but having the audacity to mail a letter with no explanation just shows the lack of courtesy and professionalism of their staff. I would not recommend this venue to anyone.

Wow. Amazing food, amazing service, great atmosphere, and all around good place for lunch. I went in, and was immediately greeted by two nice ladies and was given a menu and a soda. In about 8 minutes or so, I was given my meal, (a cheese burger) and it was really good. For my first time here, it was amazing and I will be back again in the future.

So unbelievably disappointed with Rio Bravo. We had booked our wedding ceremony back in May, only to have the new wedding coordinator call me a couple weeks before our January wedding to say the old coordinator had double booked our date. I was as understanding as I possibly could be seeing as it wasn't her fault. She said was trying to work things out but I didn't want to chance something going wrong so I ended up finding another venue last minute. Now even though that was disappointing it was understandable and I wouldn't have wrote this review if that had been the end of it. However, she told me they were going to get a check out that day for our refund and offered some compensation in the form of golfing (we don't golf) weeks go by and I still hadn't received anything, finally I emailed her to see where our refund was and I was told that accounting was waiting until after the first of the year to send a check. So not only did I have to find another venue last minute and pay $500 more, we also had to pay to print up change of venue notifications and send to all our guests, but we also had to wait to get our check (seeing as we were getting married, we kinda could've used it...) with no apology letter, no offer of compensation, and a late check. Would definitely not recommend

PLEASE BE CAREFUL in enrolling for membership at Rio Bravo. It may sound like a good idea or a good deal but the contract is completely unfair and can be deceiving. I enrolled last year in their "Buddy" system enrollment and the required length of enrollment was 3yrs. I asked if I were to leave the Bakersfield area, would there be an out-clause. Their response is that I may transfer my membership to a friend or they will find an anonymous "buddy" who is looking for a new membership to transfer to. I moved out of Bakersfield in Feb '10. I gave notice to the head pro in the beginning of January and assuming that he would find a transfer "Buddy", but nothing. I continued to pay my dues til March when I called the business office and inquired of my status. They indicated that they weren't able to find a "Buddy" to transfer my membership, but for some reason, they had been enrolling new "Buddy" memberships. Which didn't really make sense why they weren't able to transfer my membership to a new enrollee. It appears to me that, their initial indication of finding a transfer "Buddy" in my case, since I had moved out of the city, was completely FRAUDULENT and MISLEADING!!! I WOULD HAVE NEVER SIGNED UP FOR THIS MEMBERSHIP IF I KNEW OF THEIR OF THEIR POOR AND MISLEADING BUSINESS ETHICS AND PRACTICES. In all, do not sign up for this membership if you believe in fair business practices! I will comment on course quality and playability on a separate review.
