We dry camped here with Harvest Hosts and it was an awesome place! Live music and food truck on the weekends- a beautiful patio to enjoy the wine tasting and views of the Organ Pipe mountains, fire pits and propane heaters let you enjoy the full sunset! We liked the Spaniard Cab best👍. Definitely worth the stop and we’ll be returning! Great staff, great wine, great views 👍 (And they have pickleball courts- bring your own equipment.) Update: 4/05/25: stayed here again - even better as the restaurant was open- enjoyed a lovely smoked green chili stew and crème brûlée with our wine & beer. Morning coffee at the fire pit watching a photo shoot and chatting with the winery owner who also owns another local company that produces certified hatch green chili products - super nice guy 👍

Our family had a fantastic experience staying at Rio Grande Winery! This was our first time using harvest hosts and it did not disappoint! After being caught in dust storms while driving from Carlsbad to Las Cruces, the winery was such a great way to end the day. We arrived later than expected due to the weather, and called ahead to place a food and wine order with the kitchen. When we arrived, we were greeted by all the friendly staff and Randy the owner. The food and wine were AMAZING and the hospitality could not be beaten. They were also super accommodating of our energetic toddler who just spent the past four hours being locked up in a car 😊 Our only regret is that we didn't get to experience the live music that happens on the weekends. It was lovely waking up to the beautiful mountains in the background of the winery. All in all, an excellent and smooth experience. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a unique and special stay. We will definitely be stopping by again if we are ever in the area!

Google
Had a nice, relaxing evening sipping wine and listening to live music. Inside had several tables and a couple of comfy couches and chairs. Outside were several tables in the covered patio. There was a food truck there as well. We will be back.

A sweet hidden location heading out to Las Cruces thru the back roads of NM. Quiet location, it was a festive day and there wasn’t much people. Band was playing out on the patio. Great customer service as they explained type of wine we were drinking. A good day to WINE 🍷 🖤🤘🏼

We visited a new to us Harvest Host in the Las Cruces area. We are so glad we did. Communication was prompt. Generous, level parking. Quiet, starfilled night. Newer winery with beautiful spaces, friendly staff & great food & wine. There were 2 food trucks-one arrived offering standard fare of hamburgers etc. Another recent food truck addition was run by two French brothers who are acquaintances of the owner. I enjoyed a large caesar salad with salmon gravlax & my husband ordered the smoked tri-tip on a homemade baguette. We ordered a bottle their red. The whole experience was a delight… the food, the wine, being surrounded by happy people enjoying themselves on a lovely evening was the best part of my day. I love this place.

Google
Our 1st time here, lucky us we got a warm welcome from the owner as we walked in! Excellent service and Wine quality, delicious food, while enjoying the beautiful mountain views and relaxed atmosphere to chill live music!! 100% Recommended!!

Google
Stopped here while driving across the country. Stephen provided excellent service and the wine was great. Atmosphere, seating and live music all made for a great time. Weather outside was too windy to sit or have the fire going (couldn't even see the mountains from all the dust) but I looked like a beautiful space.

Google
So we had our wedding at Rio Grande Winery in their event space. I have nothing but positive things to say about. The event coordinator Candice and GM Patrick did everything to ensure our event went smooth and we had everything we needed. Great communication, great customer service, gret wine, and overall a great night. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking to host an event or just have an evening with friends at a great local winery.

Yelp
Been coming here for a few years and always have such a relaxing time. Today we had Joana as our server and she was lovely. A very hard worker and kind person. They have great wine here and the atmosphere is beautiful on a clear day. Sundays they have live music. Lots of food and pet friendly! Veggie options our pretty good! Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
We stopped in while passing through Las Cruces. We needed to restock our wines, and we found the perfect spot. The wines were delicious; I especially enjoyed the Spaniard. We walked out with several selections!

Yelp
Definitely the winery with the best view of the Organ Mountains! Enjoy a great flight or a glass of wine on their patio as you watch the sun set over the beautiful Organ Mountains and listen to live music. This vineyard and winery has it all. Even though the space in the tasting room is lovely, you will find most of the customers out back at the numerous tables. Staff is happy to assist with your selections and bring them to you so you can sit back and relax. Wine tastings are pick 4 for $12. This gem is nestled between the pecan orchards off Highway 28.

Yelp
Beautiful winery tasting room with indoor and outdoor seating areas thoughtfully decorated. Winery sits 300-400 yards off NM 28, with rows of vines filling this space. Upon close examination, each wine row is different varietal (Sangiovese right next to Viognier) that nicely showcases itself in their offerings, relatively dry whites, rose's, and reds that are blends of 5-6 varietals. I'm guessing they source these varietals from various vineyards around this largely agricultural area as there is not enough area under vine in front of the tasting room to support the total production of Rio Grande Winery. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Last night they were alternating between greeting guests as they entered the door, and sitting outside with guests watching the sun set against the mountains. A truly wonderful vista and large enough for large parties. Food offering was pretty standard for a wine tasting room. All catered stuff such as small charcuterie box, hummus and pretzel chips (were out last night), small cheese pizza; some sweets; and of course wine flights. I bought a bottle of their red blend and a charcuterie box (~ $50 with tip). All the wines looked to be in $20-$30 range and the food was all in the $7.50-$15 range. Hours are 2pm to 8pm. Recommend getting there about 6 to open a bottle and watch the sun set with some snacks ... really nice spot!!

Yelp
Love having Ryan as a sever!! He is very courteous and has great knowledge about the wines! He also remembers my favorite wine!!

Yelp
Super fun for a different more outdoorsy winery experience. They often have live music, lots of outside tables and some inside seating too. Food trucks and pickle ball courts! This place is not your grandfather winery! Oh I forgot to mention the awesome view if the mountains. The staff has always been nice and friendly even when they get busy. If you have an RV, they are a Harvest Host so check for availability and stay the night! The parking lot for the RVs is nice and level with a nice panoramic view of the organ mountains.

Yelp
Jim and Jonny led us through a wonderful exploration of their wines. We had a lot of fun conversation. Great service, ambiance, and a nice soft pretzel!

Yelp
Found this place on a Saturday evening and really glad we did. A country band was playing outside where they have tons of seating and a large cement area where plenty of dancing happens. The staff was friendly as were the other patrons. I gather they do free line dancing lessons every Thursday evening. For the wine, I ended with a glass of white that was dry, crisp and tasty.

Yelp
Beautiful facility with indoor and outdoor seating. Enjoyed the wine flight and the little charcuterie board is delightful. We tried the alfajores cookie off the desert menu and loved it! Service was spot on, our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Would have liked to play pickleball if it weren't so windy outside.

William K.

Yelp
Beautiful location. Great people and great atmosphere Total wine list of owner made wines. You will never regret your evening with Rio Grande Winery. Some nights beautiful music bands to match the quality of wine and the service people.

Yelp
Rio grande winery Mixed review The winery is located outside of Las Cruces. It has an open view of the Organ Mountains. The facility is clean with an expansive bar and a lovely open patio along the back. They often have a live band and plenty of room for dancing. The female bartender was quick to serve us water but then disappeared. After about 20 minutes I went up to the bar to order. She informed me Flights were not available because they were too busy. I went back to my table to confer with my partner. We decided to purchase the most expensive bottle, not knowing which one we would like. I went immediately back to bar. As she was opening a bottle for another customer, I asked a question about taking the unused portion home. After she tended to her current customer, she walked past me to take care of another customer. Then she walked past me again to take care of another customer. Then she took another! I was standing there the whole time with my credit card in my hand. Was she purposely ignoring me? It sure seemed like it. I was tempted to leave but we had met friends there. Finally a male employee came up to take my order. The wine was good but not worth the price tag. During this time we ordered food from Leo's Far Out Tacos Truck. Our 3 street tacos and 1 chicken burrito took 35 minutes! It was tasty but the wait was way too long for a food truck. Next time we'll eat before going.

Yelp
The wine has improved significantly since my last visit. Service was as usual, very good. Ambiance as always was excellent.

Frank Z.

Yelp
Remarkable wines, first rate venue with breathtaking views of the Organ Mountains, live music and food trucks. An A+.

Yelp
We have mixed experiences at Rio Grande Winery. We have been there numerous times in the last 3 years and have always found their wine to be quite good. Recent renovations have resulted in a beautiful facility, and the back porch facing the Organs is the best atmosphere in town. However, each time we visit the service is worse and yesterday evening we couldn't get a staff member to even look at us. We waited at the table for a bit, and then I thought I'd try going to the bar to buy a bottle. No luck. We finally decided to leave, and by that time, 3 employees were at the end of the bar visiting. None of them even glanced at us as we walked by. The other factor that sped up our departure was the volume of the music. I've been going to rock concerts for years, and I'm no stranger to loud music, so this is a very rare complaint from me, but it was so loud we couldn't have a conversation. I hope they get it together soon. We enjoy going out there, but lately, it's just not worth the fight it takes to get them to take our money.

Yelp
My husband and I have been coming to Rio Grande Winery for years. However, we stopped coming after the pandemic until now. Let me tell you, we were more than surprised with all the renovations and the outstanding service. We arrived to see a renovated and modern area with plenty of seating with great AC. The bartender was extremely helpful. We bought a bottle of RHV Malbec which had such a smooth taste. I truly enjoyed it. We also got two glasses of Land of Mañana wine. It had a fruity, sweet, delicious flavor. We also got a tray of charcuterie with fresh contents. The service was like NO OTHER. We decided to sit outside on some comfy outdoor couches to enjoy the amazing Mountain View. The water misters were on which allowed to forget about the heat. We were informed that Friday, Saturday, and Sundays at 7:00 pm there's live music and food trucks to enjoy the sunset. The outside has been completely renovated as well. There's plenty of comfortable seating with a huge canopy to provide shade. We are definitely coming back.

Yelp
Driving cross country from Florida back home to San Diego, we decided to stop in Las Cruces for the night and stumbled upon this winery. We called them beforehand to make sure children and dogs were welcome and a friendly and funny guy assured us that as long as both were on leashes, we would be good. As we drove up, we saw that the property was also a harvest host and there was a group of random RV guests hanging by a fire pit having a great time. We then walked into a room that was full of the most welcoming people and an awesome band. We sat ourselves just outside the main room with our pups and were greeted immediately greeted by the owner. He was welcoming and humble and made us feel like we were part of a family in the first five minutes. Then I tasted the wine... umm... yeah, this place is legit and unique. The Barbera was peppery and memorable (unlike many I usually have). The Malbec had fruity notes of strawberry I had never associated with that grape and the merlot and Cabernet were ultimately "chuggable" - full bodied and complex, but easy in the palette and well-balanced. Now don't get me started on the food. The el presidente tacos (a simple combination of shrimp, cheese and local green chiles was unbelievable). And the waffle fries, were perfect. And it doesn't end there! The spot is beautiful with an amazing view of the mountains that even in the moonlight was awe inspiring. I am so happy we stopped in Las Cruces and had an opportunity to experience this amazing little spot. I just hope it doesn't get too popular and ruin the unique community feeling that makes it so special.

Sally M.

Yelp
The view of the mountains is great. But the service is lacking not as friendly as you would like. I also ordered a pretzel and hummus and they gave me sabra.

V S.

Yelp
The ambiance is beautiful, so comfortable with the mountain backdrop. The bar service is fast and friendly. We reserved a fire pit which was really nice but with the winds it was more of a hassle so we removed it. There are only two bathrooms that accommodate one person each, so that requires good timing. Both times we went they had Mad Dog food truck. The food is good but you'll wait in line a good 30 minutes, not real encouraging. Overall it's a wonderful place to meet friends.

Ruth H.

Yelp
This is the perfect winery for tasting, enjoying an appetizer, and relaxing. The indoor/outdoor venue was a nice addition to our New Mexico vacation.

Yelp
We spent a delightful afternoon at Rio Grande Winery. It was just after a brief afternoon rain storm that moistened the air just enough to cool it to a perfect temp. My wife and I both had the Malbec and the Rose. The Malbec not to heavy for a warm day and the rose which was quite refreshing. We also enjoyed the cheeses they had available and the chips with locally made hatch chili salsa. I loved the variety of wines that were available and the property was quite beautiful to spend a perfect afternoon with family. We will definitely be back soon!

Yelp
We absolutely love it here! We've only been twice, but it's perfect for date night. And when we have family and friends visiting to take them. We love going right before sunset, they start turning on the fireplaces and live music. It's just a great vibe!

Leslie K.

Yelp
Awesome place! Great service! They even turned on the sprinkler hose and offered for my child to play there. Family friendly. Live music was a nice choice. Sunset was beautifully casting a golden glow on the field, so pretty! Highly recommend it.

Ruth J.

Yelp
Damian is the greatest. Wine too! Lovely ambiance and Mountain View's. With lovely dessert options.

Yelp
So as of this date 5/29/23 since the last time I visited it has been sold again. Wines are fair and food that is served is second rate. Their Fruit and cheese and meat plate that they call a platter is premade and severed in a plastic container. Their advertised Pizza is from a restaurant in town and kept in a warming area and is delivered at a specific time and sits till you order it. The fruit cheese option is $20 and is worth about $12 Decided not to try the pizza since it is not fresh and decided to go to another winery that makes fresh pizza. Will not return to this place again as there are better choices near by.. Am being generous giving them a three star rating. D Ward Las Cruces

Yelp
Just stopped at the Rio grande winery, sampled several different wines with a wine flight. Loved them all. New co- owner Jay Hill gave us a tour of the winery. Beautiful remodeling. Great food, great entertainment. Inspiring new owners. Really enjoyed our time there. We ended up joining the wine club for the special release wines not available to the public. All the samples were fantastic. . Thank you Jay Hill for the winery tour and thank you Rose for your great service. We will definitely be back again. https://www.facebook.com/RioGrandeWinery?mibextid=LQQJ4d

Yelp
Five stars for an amazing experience with Rio Grande Winery. How wonderful to have the opportunity to pick grapes in the vineyard then be treated to lunch, wine and grape stomping at th. The new owner of Rio Grande Winery was very personable and kind. I was especially happy to see that the vineyard workers were also invited to the free lunch at the winery. Btw, stomping grapes feels just like a foot massage. I can check this off my bucket list. Thanks Rio Grande Winery!

Yelp
I stopped by Rio Grande Vineyard & Winery this week and I had a wonderful time. The young man who helped me, Joshua, had a sense of humor and was professional. I ordered a $40 wine and cheese basket. It included a bottle of Land of Mañana, a moscato, as well as a package of Boar's Head sausage and cheese. The view of the Organ Mountains from the patio is spectacular. There is a lot of seating. I met three lovely widows and we became friendly enough to share e-mail addresses. Rio Grande Vineyard and Winery is a wonderful place to spend a couple of hours on a beautiful day!

Yelp
Everyone here is super friendly. The wines are amazing and we learned a lot about how wine growing began in this region. Lots of history here tucked into the Las Cruces area. What a view! You can sit on the patio and gaze at the distant mountains while enjoying some excellent reds and whites.

Patti K.

Yelp
Hostess was very friendly. Live entertainment 4-7 on Sunday!! New Harvest Hosts location. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Randy and Carol McMillan are the Owners of RGW and are great people who enjoy all people and provide a friendly atmosphere for all. I read a post recently that was untrue the McMillan Owners, Randy and Carol are not racist end of story. Please visit there outdoor patio area and enjoy the view. Dave and Kendra Brunson.

Yelp
All of the wines I have tasted here were, shall we say, marginal at best. Lots of people here in Las Cruces who love wine roll their eyes at the mention of this place. While the venue is pleasant, the owner Gordon is decidedly not. I found him very boring, and questions make him very prickly.

Ms P.

Yelp
We were really looking forward to this evening! We did love the live music and they did have a good red named El Santo. However, everything else was not good at all. The service was slow, we waited over 15 minutes at the bar. Then when we ordered our charcuterie and a burger, we were told that the charcuterie would take an additional 15 because they were just being made. We were super excited for the charcuterie but it was very disappointing. It was a lunchable (literally in a small box) with the ritz crackers in a ziplock bag. They did include a plastic knife but there was nothing to cut nor spread. Then the burger never made it to us, as they ran out of propane. We had to wait, again, to get a refund. At this point we finished our bottles of wine and left. There was much to be desired from the winery. I don't believe we will return.

Yelp
We are somewhat wine connoisseurs and having experienced many other states that offers so many vineyards and tastings often - we are being constantly surprised and amazed of the Southwest's many worthy, up-and-coming wineries, for day outings, day trips incredibly enjoyable, with tastings, tours or just relaxing. As you well know if you're a wine lover, wine is very subjective and varies from one's own palate and preference. Due to rather diverse variances in each experience, or try to compare one winery, vineyard, grape or wine to another, I have developed a method in scoring that will give both the occasional novice wine taster or the most sophisticated connoisseur a bearing on each establishment by visited, based on our single, or sometimes multiple visits to each location. My guidelines are: 1) beauty of location and its scenery [ Scored:3.0 ] ; 2) the establishment's appearance and ambience [ Scored:4.0 ]; 3) the owner/operators' attention to their customers and hospitality [ Scored:4.5 ]; 4) activities, events and/or meals/munchies/entertainment [ Scored:4.0 ]; 5) wine selection, quality, taste and varieties [ Scored:5.0 ]; and 6) heavily weighted on our taste [ Scored:4.5 ]; as well as 7) value, consistency and price of the product [ Scored:4.0 ]. None of the aforementioned are in any particular order of value. The scale being 1 the worst, 5 the best and recommended and our overall assessment by scores a 4.1! By the way, the views there of the Organ Mountains and surroundings are fantastic - you almost want to stay the day! Check it out.

Yelp
This is a New Mexico gem!!!! You must check it out. Great service and the wine is delicious! A beautiful surprise, and all New Mexico grapes! Live music was so fun and views are spectacular. Great vibe!

Yelp
Beautiful views. Cherry sangria was great. Disappointed on our cheese tray. It was a box of crackers, a block of cheese and a pkg of sliced salami a knife and cheese board (DIY style). We enjoyed the sangria, but was not impressed with the Riorita...we sent it back! They had live music, the band was good but vocals were Just ok. We got rained out of the patio area and called it a day!

Yelp
If there was a way to give this terrible experience a lower rating, I would. Let me start by saying that our group was much younger than anyone else at the winery that evening. We had a group of 6 people and stayed for a duration of around 3 to 4 hours. During this time we split 2 full bottles and the third we took with us because we couldn't bare to spend another moment there. One of the owners, an elderly woman, was fixated in our group which made us extremely uncomfortable. She was demanding the manager on duty cut us off even though we had all been eating and not one of us had exceeded drinking 3 glasses of wine. I have taken my course in serving alcohol in both Texas and NM so I know that we were well in the legal spectrum, therefore not a danger to ourselves or anyone else. Granted we are a bit of a loud group, there was no reason for this elderly woman to demand her manager to cut us off. The worst part of the whole situation is that apparently the manager on duty, who was extremely kind and helpful, had gotten terminated due to the fact that the owner is obviously mentally insane and nothing more than a racist who needs to find clothes that actually fit her decrepit body. Everyone in our group could hear the owner demanding the manager to kick us out immediately, and I have yet to identify the reason behind this other than the fact that we are Hispanic...

Yelp
What an amazing place! We heard about this winery from a friend who was playing at the venue and we can see ourselves coming her time and time again! Great service and environment. We will recommend to our friends.

Yelp
Beautiful view! Loved the red wine. The food truck was a nice surprise. We really enjoyed our evening at the winery.

Yelp
Definitely worth a visit if you find yourself in the area... their wines are delicious and that back porch view of the Organ Mountains is phenomenal! Having the owner walk us through the tastings was a real treat as well (this guy is hilarious, and very knowledgeable). After a three hour visit, my wife and I left with a mixed case of our favorites: Queue Tendre (spicy sweet white), dry Gewurztraminer (perfectly balanced), Peach Sangria, Sangiovese, Grenache, and several others. Plan your trip accordingly, as the winery only has light fare on hand and it's about a 20 minute drive from the restaurants of Old Mesilla (mostly through the pecan groves). All told, this was the highlight of my wife and I's anniversary trip to Las Cruces. Will certainly visit again.

Yelp
Five stars for service and really, really good wine. Enjoyed our tasting so much we left with 6 bottles of delicious wine. I think the person(s) begins the bar make or break your experience and ours was so much fun! Highly recommend you stop by and try it!

Yelp
The sommelier was a South African guy with a very interesting perspective as he tried to get into the wine business. Still not sure I'm sold on the earthy, dry, hot wines here-- but they do a good job with the conditions they have and tailor the wines to the conditions. The Queue Tendre is what they start, and is the most interesting, and the tempranillo wasn't bad. We're still not sold on port (fortunately or not), but the sweet red based port was preferable to the white-based one. View from the back patio is quite nice, although we didn't actually spend much time out there. Interior isn't as modern as some others, but it has a bit more character.

Rose W.

Yelp
This place has a great vibe and live music on Sunday afternoons. Band was sitting in the sun while playing, maybe some way to block late afternoon sun from the west.
google avatar

Daniel M.

Yelp
Such a cool winery. Great wine and beautiful grounds. Very reasonable prices. Only $5 to taste and bottles to take home are inexpensive. The lady at wine testing wasn't too knowledgeable about the wine but was super friendly and told us all about the area.
google avatar

Lala J.

Yelp
We've traveled all over to different wineries on the west, mid and east coast. I've never been so disappointed. The winery doors didn't open until after the time listed, the individual didn't say two words to us. He stood on his cell behind the counter and then grab papers and walked out. They were setting up for a wedding tonight. Looked like a great piece of land. Nice vineyard. Due to the horrible customer service, we left. That's part of the experience of wine tasting.... If the people working there do not want to be there, it makes it bad for the customers. We will never go back.

Yelp
Beautiful little vineyard with good wine and a beautiful view of the mountain on their spacious backdoor patio. Had a great time with friends. The bartender/manager (I dunno what you call vineyard bartenders/sampler pourers) was very polite and friendly. We definitely stayed a quite a few minutes past closing and there was no attempt to rush us out at all. Worth a visit to try their wines and see some beautiful country.

Patrice S.

Yelp
Beautiful grounds , super friendly staff, nice selection of wines, great music, great value and pricing

Morgan M.

Yelp
The wines are not great here, but the views are lovely. We were told multiple times that they are under "new ownership" almost as if this was an excuse for new policies they put in place. Their rule of 3 tastings is fine except for two flaws (1) they don't show you a list of options so that you can choose the three you'd like and (2) they up-charge $12 (ridiculous) for more than 3 without letting you know you are about to take that 4th super expensive taste. I asked for dry reds and the gentleman serving us started with a sweet rose (hmm). So I let my husband finish it. Then he went with a "light" red Pinot noir --I kept saying I wanted dark, deep, dry reds. So I finally I asked him for the driest he had (since I didn't have a wine list to choose from). The cab was okay. In the meantime my husband tried two others but asked for a re-taste of one that he was considering. We bought a glass of cab each because, well, we were already there. When he rang us up, he said he had to charge us the extra $12 for taking more than 3 tastes each. Well, we really didn't have more than 3 tastes-- especially if he had actually given me what I asked for in the first place (dry reds) and in my opinion not warning my husband that his retry was going to cost $12 is just bad business. It was definitely very empty, more than I've seen in the past and I'm guessing these are the reasons. It's a shame. Not worth it, even for the pretty view.

Yelp
First I'd like to say I came for a private party so I don't have the perspective of Joe Public. When I first came in, I was almost in a fender bender because there's only one narrow way in or out. The party was ok and the place supplied a cash bar. The place is gorgeous with a beautiful view of the mountains and the valley. We had a young, witty, handsome South African bar tender who knew his way around wines, however, the sangria had a metallic after taste. The beer list was limited and expensive. They were offering a stout on tap in the spring time; weird. When my aunt asked for a glass of ice, the owner told her the ice was for cocktails only. The owner had a strict policy to shut down a 8 pm on a Saturday. When we tried to clean up, we asked for a broom and he told me not to worry about it. When my brother in law came back for the deposit, the owner said he was going to keep it because of the mess we left. Overall, it feels like this could be a spectacular business, but I feel like the owner has no passion for wines or beer and is all about the bottom line. Sad.
