Had lunch today at Rio Mambo in Colleyville. We have been going there for years and was one of our go-to spots for guests. Not any more. I'm not sure what has happened but the change has been drastic. First, the building itself is showing signs of neglect. One side of the monogram on the door was missing, the interior felt unkept and lacked the usual sparkling clean we had become used to. Okay, I thought, with everything that going on, trouble getting employees and all, they are just struggling a little bit. It's more than that. The service is reduced as well. I saw 2 servers and one bus-man working the whole restaurant. Needless to say, that impacted the service. Not their fault, people can only do so much. Next, the menu is greatly reduced. They no longer carry the signature steak options and several other dishes. The multi-page menu is now printed on one long sheet. The food itself was bland and blah. The salsa was super mild, the food was the same. This is Tex-Mex, people. Put some jalapeno in there. I've had more authentic Tex-Mex on Long Island, NY. So, sadly, we will not be going back. There are tons of good places, both mom & pop and local chains, in DFW that offer much better options and taste. If you have guests and want to offer them some Tex-Mex, that them to Chuy's, Abuelo's, Blue Goose, Mezcales, Joe T Garcias, Uncle Julios, Molcajetes - basically, anywhere but here.
