The First Day I Got My Michelin Stars: Bresca’s Ryan Ratino

"After seven years of holding court in Cleveland Park, Ripple, along with several other restaurants in the area, shuttered last summer." - Abbe Baker

Really great cocktails, outstanding and unique grilled cheeses, and dinner. Some of the best duck I've ever had. Brunch was very disappointing, however; poached eggs were poorly done, with solid yolks. The brunch entrees overall were at best unremarkable. Come for top notch dinner and drinks, give brunch here a pass unless you're in it for the drinks- $30 for all you can drink bubbly along with the food is a great deal.

My wife took me here last night for date night. She wanted a new trendy place in a new neighborhood in DC. The fact that this restaurant is in Cleveland Park is a huge plus and their menu is very unique. I am a bit more picky so if an entree had anything more interesting in it like marrow or oysters, I don't play. They have a GREAT wine/beer menu and an entire section for hard ciders. The food was sub par

Can't really say, "go here". We were in the bar area and were one of one two or three small tables at 530 on a weekday. The good: service; bartender; quick seating. The okay: service, cleanup, and plate delivery. Lots and lots of missteps: wrong food to start; hair in the main dish. They comped us the first misstep which was nice; everything else (extra milk, extra cookie) was extra on the bill. Finally, the clincher is the food. Have you ever done Bikram? You are familiar then with the idea of a certain ultra thin ham sandwich. These are the grilled cheese bar sandwiches at Ripple: really, only the tiniest amount of cheese (could barely taste it in my sandwich); tissue-paper thin meat and only one tiny layer of it. Food makes or breaks a restaurant for me. I won't return.

Very friendly staff. One of the best wine lists for northern Italian wines in DC. The food is excellent - and whoever thought of the grilled cheese section (freshly sliced Italian meats and fresh cheeses on various breads with various condiments) should drink for free for life. Great atmosphere. I go out of my way to come here.

Ripple would get another star if its menu wasn't a tad overpriced. The small charcuterie platter was a highlight, but that and 2 drinks was already $50 before we even sat down to dinner and just don't feel like we got what we paid for. The mains come out tasty enough, and the sides complemented them well, so food quality and presentation earned at least 4 stars. I know they make money on the apps and drinks--but in this case its just a bit too much. I might go back here--but I would certainly order a bit wiser next time.

Came here last night for a celebration dinner! The good: Service - Attentive, thoughtful, and considerate. Our waitress answered any and all of our questions. She was thoughtful and funny and made sure that we knew that we could stay and enjoy our meal for as long as we wanted. Our water glasses were kept full and dirty plates were quickly replaced by clean ones. Food - Oh my burrata. This is definitely something I would order again, the star of the dish was the dashi gelee (things I never thought I would say). I would also recommend the mushrooms, which were delicious. Word of warning, do not fill up on the bread. You will be tempted because the butter is that good, but it will ruin your appetite the rest of the night. There are a few reasons I didn't LOVE ripple: 1) The bacon relish on the fried green tomatoes is over powering and tomatoes were a little undercooked. It felt more baked than fried. 2) The deviled eggs were really good, but they weren't amazing. 3) The noise. Wow, this place gets incredibly loud. Will definitely come back and try the cheese and charceuterie and a few more cocktails!

We originally visited Ripple for the grilled cheese bar and were satisfied with the food (even though it took a while to arrive). During our first visit, the bartender let us know about their "Chicks and Sips" special they do one Sundays from 6-close. This entails popcorn chicken and a glass of champagne for $15. Nothing too fancy, but right up our alley, so we were excited to come back and try it out! The Sunday we planned to return, we called around 5:15 to make sure the special was still available. The hostess assured us that is was, so we set off for round 2! Once we arrived, we told the hostess we were there for the chicks and sips special. She asked if I had called earlier and I confirmed that I had. She let us know that, actually, they weren't doing the special that day but that she felt bad for misleading us and spoke with a manager to see what she could do for us. She said they would give us some sort of discount for the misinformation. Disappointed that we couldn't get chicken and champagne (but happy to hear they wanted to make up for it), after looking over the menu we decided to try two new grilled cheese sandwiches because the regular menu looked pricey for what was being offered. We ordered two beers, two grilled cheeses, and an appetizer. All the food was tasty, but nothing special. It also took awhile to arrive even though the restaurant was not full by any means. Before we got the check, we spoke with our waiter about why the special wasn't going on today and he told us it was because their freezer had broken due to the heat (something the hostess probably should have been informed about). When the check arrived, there was no discount included on the check. Very disappointing, as the only reason we decided to stay in the first place was because we were impressed that they would be so accommodating for us. We just moved to the area and were very excited to have found a new neighborhood spot with fun specials. Unfortunately, the promise of a discount (because of a mistake made on their end) that was not fulfilled put a bad taste in our mouth. We will not be back. If you do choose to dine, be prepared to wait awhile for the food.

Fantastic food! The menu was highly creative, and each aspect was delicious. We started with a cheese course (3 cheeses to share), then a number of apps, and we each had our own entree. I would definitely return.
