"One of the newest on the soul food scene is this Beaverton brick-and-mortar, which occupies a former Pizza Hut location in the Canyon Place Shopping Center. Inside, owner Ron Thomas started by casting a wide net of burgers, barbecue, pizza, Mexican food, and soul food, but has since scaled things back, cutting the menu down to soul food and burgers. Fried chicken and wings are the main attraction here, served with sides of collard greens and mac and cheese. The fried chicken is also available with waffles — a breast or six wings — served with smoked gouda and drizzled with strawberry habanero syrup. It’s open for dinnertime dine-in service, as well as takeout." - Ron Scott, Nathan Williams

Google
Place was on point! Good wings & the boss sauce was phenomenal 🎯 everything else was great as well! I will be back to try other menu items & for that corn bread that didn’t get to make this picture.

Google
It’s amazing to see people from my culture do good for themselves and their community. African Americans are judged based on past experiences but look what came from the struggle and he made it. Ron is an amazing cook, if your looking for soul food this place is the place to come. Since coming back to Oregon it seems like all the soul food restaurants didn’t make it past the panademic but still he stands.

Google
My boy at ripts city eats, asked for some lemon pepper wings, was not disappointed! Freshly squeezed lemon, pepper and salt to give it a taste like no other! Alongside Alongside crispness of the wings...yummy! Also has the buffalo wings, nice and spicy a must try. Recommend getting the 10 piece combo with 2 sides. Mix and match. You won't be disappointed!

Google
I had a lot of Soulfood and this hits DIFFERENT. You can truly tell the heart that was put into making this food! Ron is a great dude and got a really inspirational story, Great people, Great food✊🏼 this is a MUST for places to eat and I can’t recommend it more highly🔥

Google

Nice guy, really cool backstory. Great cornbread and tasty food, stopped by on a whim after going to the zoo and wasn't disappointed. The chicken was great too! Will stop by again if I'm in the area

I haven’t actually tried this place yet, but let me explain! We decided to go to Red Robin (it’s was our free birthday burger of the month 🤦🏻‍♀️) as we were getting back into our car I saw a smiley man pop out of Riptz City Eats and say “hey have you tried this place?!” With a twinkle in his eye and a big smile. We both kinda looked around (honestly I wasn’t quite sure what it was) and said “umm no” very curiously. He said “well come on let, let me show you!” He then told us a little bit about his story of how he was once houseless and now he is the owner and chef behind this wonder creation. He also showed us how he is currently partnering and selling Humble Pie desserts, of course we had to get one! And then he was so sweet to offer us a sample of his homemade cornbread, so delicious!!!! So I haven’t actually had a meal here but the sample of the cornbread, his passion for his food and his story, big warm inviting personality, and his genius and determined business skills make me want to come back and actually try his menu! I can’t wait to come and try all of the delicious food. Please stop by and support this local business you won’t be sorry!

Yelp
Ron T, the man behind delicious food and behind this amazing story is a delight! Literally stumbled upon this take out place while waiting for another restaurant. Ron, the owner and chef, greeted us warmly and provided us with a sample of his mac and cheese...that was all it took! Came back the next night and ordered 4 meals. We wanted to try it all! Tried bone in wings, boneless wings, OG burger and chicken sandwich. All were packaged nicely and got them home still warm. Chicken sandwich had two delicious breaded pieces plus cheese (kids ordered it plain). OG burger was awesome with the fried egg and bacon! Wings were on the smaller side but yummy! Garlic sauce on the boneless wings was flavorful. Sides we tried were cornbread, cabbage, Mac and cheese, collared greens, onion rings and red beans and rice. For me, the winner was surprisingly, the cabbage! Super flavorful and rich! Also really loved the Mac and cheese! Overall, Ron is a delight and well worth the stop. You'll enjoy hearing his story and stay for food! We only wish he had an indoor area where we could eat good food on the premise! We wish Ron well and will definitely come back!

Yelp
My wife was blown away by the reviews and was intrigued by the vegan Buffalo "wings" and the reviews that mention this otherworldly cabbage. Had to give it a try. I got the boneless wings with garlic sauce on and boss sauce to dip. I panicked. So I wanted something innocuous on the wings. The garlic sauce is just that. The boss sauce though is pretty amazing. It reminds me of a certain Louisiana kitchens sweet heat but darker. I recommend. The wife was a big fan of the cauliflower in the Buffalo sauce. We made short work of it. The cabbage according to her was in fact otherworldly. I don't have words for it. I'm not a big cabbage fan so I wasn't as deeply moved. I believe her that it was good. The Mac and cheese is interesting. It has an acidic element to it almost like pickles. It's unique. Not for me but I guess it's worth considering before hand. I think Ron is the star of the show though. I have eaten in a lot of restaurants. Never before have I ever been greeted and thanked so genuinely and warmly. He has an energy I've never experienced before. He told me about the Humble Pie company he works with and how he makes his own cakes. Just take my money already. The lemon cake was amazing. Be warned that the desserts are not on the online menu yet. I'll definitely be back for some of that good soul food. It's a great place!!!

Yelp
We hate to be that guy but Unfortunately the experience we had last night was awful. We ordered through Uber Eats for delivery and when you first open the containers things look good but once you start eating it's a big no.My husband's meal, the lemon pepper wings were super dry and barely flavored with far more bone than chicken, the red beans and rice were both super hard/crunchy, the collard greens had no flavor and not sure what that cornbread was for 6$ it was a couple little squares of flat super sweet cornmush that came in a ziplock baggie. My meal was the boneless wings which literally had a bottle of like kc masterpiece sauce, the macaroni was complete mush and sour and the onion rings were Burger King/sysco. Really wanted to support a local business and not sure if it was a bad night or if all the reviews are bs but we would not recommend this place.

Nick P.

Yelp
Super cool owner/cook, he puts so much passion into what he does, he is very positive and makes great food. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Walked past this little place on our way to Red Robin (not my choice) and paused long enough to check out the menu... which caught the attention of the lone worker/owner/chef/human being extraordinaire Ron T! We didn't even set foot in the door and yet he came after us, excited to share his food, yes... but more importantly, his passion! You see, Ron was once homeless... but he fought back, picked up some serious skills working in various kitchens around Portland, and worked with various non profits to bring his passion of providing a second chance to others who find themselves without a place to call home... in need of stability, in need of someone who understands, in need of a helping hand. Ron T provides that by teaching life skills in a stable environment. What's more, is the food that he cranks out is legit! That night, he gave us a little sample of mac n cheese... not Kraft...not gourmet...but straight up made with love by somebody's mama...or Ron! Even though we couldn't eat there last night, that bite of Mac N Cheese and Ron's personality and his mission brought us back out for dinner tonight! We tried numerous things from the menu. The burger, chicken sandwich, and bnls chicken wings were good... the bone in wings were better... crispy fried naked and then tossed with a lemon pepper sauce... but for $5 more you get 2 Sides and that is where the soul steps up to the plate! Collard greens, red beans and rice, and did I mention Mac n Cheese? The honey cornbread is good if you like it sweet... but the real surprise was the cabbage...yes, the cabbage. I grew up in a relatively poor family and cabbage was a common staple at our table... as an adult, I don't often eat stewed cabbage. It's that dish from my childhood that I tend to avoid... but when Ron asked if I liked cabbage, my politeness took over and I said yes... not sure why cause I don't really like it...I just tolerate it. However, this cabbage.... changed that! Seriously y'all...get the cabbage! It is truly crave worthy...So full of flavor and comfort! I have no idea how he did that either because my tastebuds rarely steer me wrong, but I think his sides might be vegetarian friendly. You will have to ask to confirm but I feel like the greens were missing that smoky pork flavor I am used to and I didn't see any hock or sausage in the red beans and rice... but the cabbage...oh, it was buttery. When you don't have meat back home you would be amazed at what can be done with butter or margarine....and Ron made the lowly Cabbage the star of this show...well alongside the Mac n Cheese! Check this place out... support a man with a hard past, but one that has given him a vision for the future. Enjoy a hearty, delicious meal and remember to pay it forward to those around you... the world needs more heart and soul!

Yelp
Thanks to yelp stumbled on this gem for dinner tonight. The owner was serving up ribs and brisket which is speaking my soul food language. We added the Mac and cheese (unique twist and delish), cornbread (moist with good flavor), and cabbage (my fav side dish). The owner was a delight to speak with and even gave us free sides of collard greens/red beans and rice. Once my stomach isn't so full I'll take those on. Will be returning A++

Niall R.

Yelp
Juicy tender fall off the bone wings, delicious buffalo sauce, not too hot. Proper collard greens, and a corn bread like I've never had, moist and super tasty. I'll be back!

Lisa O.

Yelp
Friendly owner! Great story! Good food! You should try it out! If you like Mac and cheese you should check it out.

Kathryn L.

Yelp
I tried this place last week in Beaverton and it was delicious! The owner was lovely with such an inspiring story. Everything I had was so good, it's on my list for favorite spots in the area.

Jeff F.

Yelp
Awesome BBQ and great sides to go with, simply put. While no seating there, plenty outdoor seats at the nearby Starbucks or just enjoy in your vehicle. Ate there three times during the Timbers season before or after catching the Max, because his hours are fantastic. You'll feel good about the food, you'll feel good about the service, and you'll feel great about the owner's personal story. Go check it out!

C F.

Yelp
Great southern cookin right in Beaverton! The food is amazing. Brisket sando w egg! Ribs. Wings. And the sides are ridiculous. Mac and chee, red beans and rice and the best collards I've had in a while. The owner was super nice and welcoming. Please please go here and try everything! You won't be disappointed.

Angelis M.

Yelp
Amazing service, the owner is hella nice and the food was so good. The fries SLAP! 10/10 will forever recommend. Sadly there's no big space inside so don't expect indoor sitting, BUT that doesn't affect the food or service. Y'all better make this man get big bags because it's just GREAT! Looking forward for business growth in this space!

Mike G.

Yelp
Great food! Great service! I ordered the OG BADD Burger with loaded Onion Rings and it was on point.

Yelp
I stumbled upon riptz city eats while walking next to Red Robin so I thought I'd give it a try. The brisket sandwich was pretty delicious and Ron threw in some red beans and rice and some cornbread. Ron was a very cool person who I had learned had previously been homeless and with some assistance was able to open his humble soul food eatery. The red beans and rice were very flavorful however I thought they could use a little bit more liquid. However I wasn't a big fan of the cornbread normally because I don't really like cornbread but also because it was a bit dry and had not risen properly. All in all though, I would recommend you trying this small hole in the wall to give Ron's food a chance! Much luck and success to you Ron and all you do!

Shane W.

Yelp
Everything here tasted great, not a single bad bite but the mac & cheese is on another level. Definitely going to return for some more of that and to try the wings as soon as we can.

Susan R.

Yelp
We LOVE Ron's delicious wings and he is awesome. This is the place to go to support local and get some soul food.

Chevy L.

Yelp
This was the most seasoned meal I have had since being in Oregon. It definitely tasted delicious. Ron the owner was amazing and for him to be running a one ma show he did the damn thang. This is now my go to spot for wings and I live 30 mins away!! If your ever in the area go see the Boss with the sauce, it will be worth it!!

Ed L.

Yelp
The wings are spot on good eats as was the sides of red beans and rice and mac and cheese. We need a good grass roots soul food experience here in Beaverton. Another great reason to stop by is the owner is really trying to set a good example by being a 2nd Chance employer. As long as the wings are good and the management keeps paying it forward to the community my wings will be purchased from Riptz City Eats. Thank you for the service towards the community, I hope the good Karma flourishes for as long as you contine paying it forward along with that damn good chicken.

Ali M.

Yelp
Love it truly love it real delicious meat the meal will get you full two sides the owner is awesome guy I will definitely come back

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
We drove by this place by happenstance and decided to check it out. Ron was so nice as soon as we came in the door. He explained that he used to be homeless and is now trying to employ homeless people or other people down on their luck. Right now he's the only one working there though and he's doing an amazing job! The food was so good, and in my option, he could definitely get away with charging $20 per meal instead of only $14. The meals come with two sides, I got the Mac and cheese and curly fries. Both were excellent. 10/10. We were the first customers of the day and we came in at about 9pm which is ridiculous, more people need to support this hidden gem! I've already posted on my snap story recommending this place (it was that good). I wish all the luck to Ron and we will definitely be back.

Shaelah M.

Yelp
I haven't even eaten here yet. I just met the owner outside before he was open and he was seriously such an amazing guy. I loved his attitude and he was super welcoming. Great great vibes. I recommend it simply on his soul, where he serves it up. Props to you Ron! Shine on!!!

Sonny B.

Yelp
Fount this place here on yelp the food was fabulous I said xtra crispy wings and they came out perfect time to get alot more for Mondaynight Football

Max K.

Yelp
Not only is his story amazing and inspiring, but the food speaks for itself. I can't tell you how great everything we ate from here was. I haven't been able to find good soul food in Portland until now. This man brought soul to a city that needs it. Will definitely be back.

Jacob C.

Yelp
Stopped in the other day and Wow. Got the burger and it was amazing, one of the best burgers I've had in awhile. The sides were also really good and there's a huge selection. The owner was very nice and has a great mission. Highly recommend

Chloe A.

Yelp
Such a friendly owner! Ron definitely makes his food with love. Loved how he hooked us up with extra side dishes. Definitely something you would go back to more than once!

Msc C.

Yelp
Boneless wings with lemon sauce, amazing! Thanks for opening a soul food restaurant in Beaverton.

Rachel T.

Yelp
You can really tell the effort that the owner puts into his food and the passion he has for it. We had ribs, chicken wings, and various sides, and every single thing we ate was absolutely delicious. This food is the real deal and we plan to go back frequently. If you're looking for a local restaurant to add to your roster, you're missing out if you don't go here!

Alex G.

Yelp
Was looking for some good food after work and thanks to yelp I found this lil place. the owner was real cool, I was able to chop it up a bit with him before ordering. The wings were on point as well as the macaroni and collard greens. He recommended me the brisket sandwich was real good. Hit this place up when your thinking of having a good meal and wanna have a full belly. Shoutout to big Ron!

Elizabeth Y.

Yelp
Ordered on Doordash. Saw the reviews and wanted to support such a lovely owner, and the food was DELICIOUS. Got Buffalo and Barbecue bone-in wings, loaded curly fries, Mac and cheese, cornbread, and cabbage. All the food was so tasty and felt like comfort, and at a really good price. Specifically loved how spicy the sauces on the chicken wings were. Will definitely buy again!

Wade S.

Yelp
Go see Ron! First the food. I had the OG Badd burger. Delicious! My wife had the wings with Mac and cheese and red beans and rice. Garlic wings were meaty, flavorful, crisp outside and juicy inside. Mac and cheese was creamy and had great flavor. The best red beans and rice I've had. Ron threw in some cornbread muffins on the house that were excellent. Now the man. Ron is one of the truly nicest people I have had the pleasure to meet. A great guy trying to do good in this world. He is full of kindness, humility and love. It was an honor to meet him. Please support this incredible man and his great food. Thank you, Ron!

S L.

Yelp
Definitely a 5 star! The service and wings are Amazingly delicious! A 5 star goes to "Boss with the sauce"

Paul A.

Yelp
We decided to try this little place since we love soul food. The food was great. The standout dishes were the chicken wings with "boss sauce" (we wanted that sauce on everything). The mac and cheese was creamy but also had a unique sharpness that was really tasty. The collared greens were perfectly cooked. We also got one of their caramel cakes which was awesome.

Jackson S.

Yelp
What amazing management. I love the chef with my whole heart, he has such a good story, excellent customer service and hooks it up!! 11pm came around and we got awesome food in 6 minutes and free corn bread. Thank you guys

Damon S.

Yelp
This place is off the chain! Ron is a great guy with an inspiring story and it is told in the flavors of his meals! I got the boneless wings with boss sauce, side of collard greens and mac & cheese. Everything was incredible! Support small business and give Riptz City eats a try. You will not be disappointed!

Alexander M.

Yelp
Great little spot for soul food, and the owner is a great guy. Great service and it was awesome hearing his story. We will be spreading the word and returning!

Iris K.

Yelp
Vegan Mac and cheese can be good and i know food is just fuel but sometimes i really crave the comfort and taste of real Mac and cheese. Especially when it's cold out. Especially when it's raining. I told Ron Im not even supposed to have dairy.. and really im supposed to be on this diet.. and he said he felt bad if I was going to order it... now I know why. Because it is sooo good. I'm always gna be thinking about of Mac and cheese now. If I was on speaking terms w any of my exes I would tell them they would love this but ***k them; their loss. Jk Unless they're reading this.. then I still recommend they come here because their soul needs healing and this might just do the trick. Next time I come back for the cabbage ( also really really good) and others, I'm going to change my quote on the board to say "cheat on your diet, not on your partner!!" Lots of love and luck to your money tree, iris

Faith H.

Yelp
Amazing establishment! The heart and passion for people and excellent soulful can be felt throughout the entire store. The soul food is beyond delicious! It brings me back to my southern roots in local Beaverton! 10/10 will be returning for the delicious food, one of a kind customer service!

Alex O.

Yelp
Great food and service. The owner Ron is awesome. Not only does he make super yummy comfort food, but he is also big on giving back to the community. Highly recommend!
