Best Classic Restaurants in Fort Worth | Eater Dallas

"Riscky’s is a family-owned barbecue joint that has been serving its community since 1927, earning a reputation for its consistency. The original location on Azle Avenue is a short drive from the Stockyards and still sports much of its signage from decades ago. It’s great for grabbing a quick lunch or enjoying a leisurely dinner, and the simple yet satisfying menu offers all the classic barbecue dishes, including brisket, pork and beef ribs, pulled pork, and sausage. Be sure to check out the other locations at Stockyards Station, Sundance Square, and West Side Camp Bowie — to name a few. Good for: A casual lunch or dinner with old school charm and history — oh, and some good old Texas barbecue" - Michael Ellington

Stumbled upon this place when walked around Sundance Square. We ordered combo meats and I got myself a Bloody Mary. The brisket/pork rib and the sides were delicious. The onion rings were crispy and tasty. They’re thinly sliced and lightly coated with flour. The best onion rings we’ve ever had. Service was excellent. We definitely come back.

We were in Fort Worth and stopped by this place for a quick bite. It was a good option for a snack, but not the best choice if you are looking for a full Texas barbecue experience. We ordered sausage on bread with fries, which were tasty, and a rack of ribs to try. Unfortunately, the ribs came with too much fat and very little meat, and they were not among the most flavorful we’ve had. That said, if you are nearby, it can still be worth a stop the decor is amazing and the service is excellent.

Another fantastic culinary experience! When timed appropriately, you may complement your dining with one of the two longhorn cattle drives. We have searched for an “All You Can Eat” beef rib menu option… at Riscky’s, you can get your fill! Great smoky flavored ribs, chicken, and pork. They also have stuffed jalapeños, good coleslaw, and fried brisket bites. I highly recommend Riscky’s!

It’s a typical touristy dining establishment. Have low expectations and you may enjoy it. Food: - The brisket bites were good for an appy. - The catfish basket was inedible. Perhaps it’s cause I’m a West Coaster and didn’t grow up eating it. But it tasted like dirty water. - The burger was good from the couple bites that were shared with me. - Sides, stay away from the coleslaw and potato salad. Order fries as it may be your best chance for freshly deep fried. The salads seemed store bought and over sauced. The potato salad was discoloured from sitting out too long. I’m assuming it was portioned earlier in the day and not covered up. I didn’t take a picture. Closing notes - stick with beef and fries. Seating and service was good. You won’t be able to see the cattle run from the patio as people line the streets.

We just ate there. Had the brisket bite appetizer and it was good. Brisket was tender. Then my wife had the shrimp, it was supposed to be grilled and there was no grilled about it, it was tough, no real flavor. She used the jalapeno with my chopped brisket to have any flavor. I had the chopped brisket, it was good but there was no way to cut it in half. All you get is a fork. Not sure why no knives but that's how they roll. I had fries as well, they seriously looked like they had been dipped in oil. No crisp and soggy. They were busy so I am sure the cooks were in a hurry. Been there many times. Still not right though. Managers were walking around but didn't see any of them, saw 3, check with customers about their food. Would have been nice had they taken the time with any customer. I am curious what the return rate of customers is. We are here for a week and will not be back to try any other entrees.

I'm coming from overseas so was expecting the bbq to be moist and very saucy. I ordered the pork ribs and it came with fries, beans, coleslaw and some bread. I'd say portions are huge, you're definitely well fed and for a good price. I wouldn't say it was the best bbq I had though, ribs were a bit dry.

My family and I had a great experience at Riscky's BBQ recently. The food was absolutely delicious - the brisket and ribs were tender, smoky, and perfectly seasoned. True Texas BBQ at its best. That said, the service could use some improvement. The host stand and phone staff weren't the friendliest, and our food took quite a while to come out, even though the place wasn't incredibly packed. Our server only checked on us twice during the entire meal, so we felt a bit forgotten at times. Overall, the good vibes, fair prices and amazing flavors make it worth a visit. We'd definitely go back for the BBQ alone! Recommended for families looking for classic Fort Worth eats.

The food was good. I had the smoked catfish tacos - something I’d never heard of before. Our server was great, friendly, and personable. My only constructive critique is that the tables were close together, causing me to scoot up each time one of the food runners came by - otherwise, they were squeezing through. My family enjoyed their food, so we’d come back. I’d like to try the covered patio next time.
