Big, spacious interior. Friendly staff. Fun flavored lattes (try Cookie Butter). Breakfast sandwich was good for the price $8.75 with lots of avocado. Wifi could be stronger, otherwise I'd return to work from here.

Google
Best staff ever! I absolutely adore Grace and Emily- they make my morning! The breakfast sandwiches and black sesame latte are delicious and my go too.

Google
My usual coffee order is a black drip, and it’s not very good here BUT this is my go to when I want to treat myself with one of their amazing specialty iced drinks. So good, not too sweet, and they use a super creamy oat milk. The staff here are always really nice, and they also have a good selection of Mr Espresso whole beans for sale. I love that they’re right next to the Lake too.

Google
Sooo glad to have a cool coffee shop on the west side of Lake Merritt! They have plenty of coffee and tea options, pastries as well. I had the malted chocolate latte and it was delish. Friendly staff too. The only odd part is that they kinda share the space with the wing place next door making it kinda noisy, so probably not a remote working location. But the coffee was great 😊

Google
I love their breakfast sandwich and coffees. Pretty much tried everything, no complaints, coffee tastes great! ONLY THING to be aware of is how they package their DoorDash/ubereats orders. Multiple times the drivers didn’t realize there was coffee in the bag and I would receive a bag with my coffee spilled. Even though they tape the coffee mouth piece shut, the delivery drivers aren’t too careful and I’ve had the entire coffee delivered on its side.

Google
Good sesame matcha latte. The black sesame flavor is strong but not overwhelm the matcha . Staffs are really nice and helpful . They have tables and outlet with wifi so definitely be back when I am in the area.

Google
The cookie butter latte was thick and delicious, and it was quite affordable. The cafe itself is spacious and comfy, lots of space to relax

Google
My partner and I love going to this coffee shop for cold horchata lattes, and sometimes changing it up. It’s pretty consistent on lattes and food, and appreciate the staff (e.g. the two Emily’s authenticity and customer service) Also it’s dog friendly (based on seeing other customers come in)

Yelp
I went here on my girlfriend's recommendation. She ordered us the breakfast sandwich online and since we were a little late getting there, the sandwich was a little cold, but it was still HELLA good! I don't usually drink coffee but I got the salted caramel latte decaf. It got my heart racing but that might have been a placebo effect. It was a nice atmosphere in there. They have a good location being next to the lake.

Yelp
I been wanting to come here for a hot minute and I'm so glad I got the chance too. I was Oakland and wanted to stop by for some lunch next door, and usually never got the chance to try their coffee. Luckily I got there in time towards closing to get a chance to get their coffee. The staff was super kind and wonderful and recommended me their options. They told me about the Iced Oakland chill which is their version of Vietnamese coffee and I was completely sold. Vietnamese coffee is my favorite so I had to try. The drink wasn't as bitter but more on the sweeter side. Definitely a great choice and satisfied my coffee itch. Definitely gonna come back to try their other drinks!

Yelp
Absolutely one of my go to cafes. I love their Crème Brûlée & Iced Black Sugar latte, they are to die for! If you want a good sandwich, grab the BEC sandwich with the aioli. The workers are nice and welcoming. The atmosphere is nice, although they could definitely stand to have more seating.

Yelp
Rise & Grind Coffee is between Fire Wings & Merritt House. Awhile ago, Merritt Restaurant & Bakery was here. Seating available in Merritt House section. No distinguishing decor. Quick service by single associate. Coffee Ready in minutes. Offerings: Specialities (latte, matcha, cold brew), tea lattes. Food, coffee.. Sips: drip coffee (lg. 3.75) "golden state blend" Mr. Expresso. Black-no sugar nor milk -initially tasted slightly harsh. Probably sat awhile after being brewed. Later sips Smoother, harshness gone. 3.5 stars large parking lot...

Yelp
How did I sleep on Rise and Grind Coffee for SO long? The breakfast sandwich is schmackin' -- this is my now-favorite place for this item! The bread is what stands out because it doesn't overpower the rest of the sandwich (some breads are too doughy or flavored) and lets the filling speak for itself while still being light and fluffy. This time I tried the Whopper Latte and Spicy Mocha Latte. Whoppers are pretty up there for me in terms of candy, but this would have been better as a hot drink because the whoppers weren't able to melt fully. I'm not a hot-drink person, but I'm willing to try it once (they also only offer iced drinks in once size). The SPICY MOCHA latte thoughhh!!! I LOVE spicy food, and usually when someone tells me they added spice to a drink, or a chocolate bar, it's not really there. But this drink has enough kick for me to notice it and that makes this place a 5 star coffee joint. Do NOT get me wrong, your mouth will definitely not burn and you won't be in pain, but it does have the flavor the name promises. Apparently it's also a bar at night? I went in the morning and there were a few people sprinkled about on the tables in the dark atmosphere of the restaurant. The staff were friendly enough, and nothing stuck out there.

Yelp
There's a lot of options here. Your basic run of the mill options and a lot of different experimental options as well. The breakfast sandwich was good, but for sure messy. The girls at the counter were pretty nice, helpful with questions. Both times I went in it was fairly quiet in the morning. I can imagine it gets louder in the evenings though.

Yelp
Rise & Grind is one of my favorite coffee shops in SF, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that they have a location in Oakland! This cafe was a little hard to find - the entrance with their banner on top of the store was closed and locked, but their ACTUAL entrance is at the Fire Wings entrance (just look for the sign on the door that advertises "Coffee from 8am-1pm"). They have a big cafe with a bunch of tables for the WFM folks with plenty of windows for natural sunlight. It felt roomy and breathable, perfect for anyone looking to get some work done. Staff were friendly, and I opted for their iced black sugar sugar latte with oat milk. Drinks came out pretty fast and mine was really good - although a bit on the sweeter side, but that may also be because of how hard it was to mix the syrup into the milk. It was yummy and refreshing: a perfect pick-me-up!

Yelp
The staff was amazing. The chocolate croissant was super flaky and the chocolate was oozing out of every bite... note to self... these are messy don't eat a chocolate croissant wearing a white shirt. The seating was good and I was able to plug my lap top in and get into a few work meetings. What was a bit odd - which I did not investigate further - is that there is an open wall connection to the Wings place next door and half of the coffee shop was corded off for non-use and another section of what looked like a bar was also not being used. So when you walk in - you got wings on your right, coffee bar and pastries straight ahead and a bit to the upper right is unused space. Maybe this place transforms to something later in the day. They closed at 1pm which I had overlooked when I came in. The baristas were SUPER SWEET - they loved on every single person that came in. Multiple sets of firefighters, families with kids, even a disabled person with an electric wheel chair and a dog (who needed to be assisted after spilling their drink) - and me... all treated like royalty and family. Although I don't understand the set up inside... the coffee and hospitality were AMAZING.

Yelp
Love their black sesame matcha latte. You can really taste the black sesame here unlike a lot of other spots I've tried. They're always super nice and service is fast.

Yelp
Needed more early morning coffee so found this cute little place on YELP. I ordered the crème Brulé drink. Delicious. Service was quick and the location okay. Next time I would like to try one of their sandwiches they looked really good.
google avatar

Sandy Q.

Yelp
Since hubby was helping me drop off some stuff to my cousin who only lives a few minutes from this place, I sent hubby here to get me a drink afterwards. I ordered the iced black sesame matcha. The drink was good but with every sip, you can taste small chunks of sweetened black sesame paste. Obviously, the ingredients weren't mixed well enough.

Yelp
We were in Oak town visiting family and wanted to try this local shop. If you've experienced some of the best coffees, then this was not even close to hittin We ordered 4 different specialty coffees...caramel latte (watered down), crème brûlée (flavorless, not sweet), cookie butter (gritty) and their rendition of Vietnamese coffee (cold brew). All were severely lacking in flavor/taste (even after adding espresso to one) except for the cold brew which I expected to have more depth of flavor but was pretty good. We also ordered the breakfast sandwiches which were good, 4/5. Service was great, friendly. Wasted $55 when I could've made a cup of instant coffee and store bought creamer taste better. Will not be back

Yelp
Rise & Grind Coffee shines with tasty food, friendly service, and cozy ambience. Tied to Fire Wyngz & Merritt House Cocktail Bar, it's a gem!
google avatar

Mariana D.

Yelp
Okay. I'm all for the latte flavors and their cookie butter latte was something I was looking forward to but it was forgettable . It also has the gritty texture of cookie dough meaning it wasn't mixed in well. Breakfast Danny was okay Business was pretty dirty Inside especially around the trash can so maybe that's why I'm turned off. Staff was okay- leaning towards the unfriendly side . Be careful of ordering online I was charged for 2 sandwiches when I ordered one

Yelp
If you want a quick breakfast and coffee, this is a decent place. Kinda confusing to find since they share space with a wings shop. Plenty of seating inside. Located next to a grocery shop so parking is not an issue. They have lots of options for coffee but they only have 2 breakfast (food) items. * Oakland chill - their version of Vietnamese coffee. It's good! Not too sweet, perfect balance of bitterness and sweetness. (8/10) * Peanut butter latte - expected something unique from this but it's just a plain latte. Can't even taste the peanut butter. (0/10) * Breakfast sandwich - it was decent! Got avocado, egg, bacon and cheese. Hope they will have more breakfast options! (7/10) Service was efficient. Just the usual no frills coffee shop! Overall, 6/10.

Yelp
Coffee was delicious!! I got the brown butter cookie latte with soy milk. Also got the breakfast sandwich. This sandwich would have been so good if the bread wasn't so dense and old tasting. It's all about the bread!!
google avatar

Sabrina L.

Yelp
Finally had a chance to visit rise & grind coffee and I love their unique menu options. The Ice black sesame matcha has a nice blend of matcha and sweetened sesame. The Black tie is a mix of Thai tea with espresso which I think I would like as a drink on its own separately. If you do like both, you should definitely try this drink. There is a parking lot in this little plaza, so you don't need to worry about that here.
google avatar

Danielle H.

Yelp
The entrance(s) was confusing but once inside things were great. Super spacious, friendly staff, and the coffee tastes great. The hazelnut latte with oat milk wasn't too sweet or too bland, just right. Spent some time reading there on a Saturday, free wifi helps. Will come back.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered their classic breakfast sandwich on brioche and the cashier recommend their twist on a Vietnamese coffee !! 10/10 !!! I devoured that sandwich and the coffee just hit I went on a Sunday so shout out to the Sunday cook and the young lady fpr her recommendation. The space was moved to the corner store and you get the best view of Lake Merrit !
google avatar

Leme K.

Yelp
Woohoo! Oakland location! While Rise & Grind started in SF, i am glad it's made it's way across the bridge. I whole heartily enjoy their homemade fresh mint syrup. I enjoy it in a cup of cold brew. It's not too sweet. It's not overwhelming with a faux peppermint flavor and it's quite refreshing. They do a great job making regular coffee beverages too and the staff is always so fun. Service is quick. They're very accommodating to your needs and overall great quality. I enjoy coming here on the weekends as you don't need to wait long for your coffee. And if you get a food coma like me from eating at the pho places or fire wings next door, be sure to come here for a pick me up.
google avatar

Suzi G.

Yelp
Came here when my Tchibo broke down and tried their Chagga coffee. Not bad! The place has an odd interior- as it's shared with the chicken wing shop- and it had a to-go kind of vibe, which didn't really encourage staying to enjoy your coffee at one of the tables.
google avatar

Danielle M.

Yelp
Convenient little coffee shop along the Lake, accompanied with convenient parking (it's in the plaza where the Lucky's is at). I came here to meet with a friend and walked in to find that the cafe was basically an open-space plan with relaxed vibe. I ordered a hot chaga latte and it was made quickly and tasted light. Staff were extremely nice and helpful (and they got jokes). The place is also a good spot to do work - there are outlets lining the wall in case you need to plug in and charge your laptop. Definitely would come back here again (also to try other drinks!).

Yelp
I first went to a Rise & Grand on 8th Avenue in San Francisco many years ago. I fell in love, but our love could not flourish due to the great distance between us. Well now she's back. There is a Rise & Grind in Oaktown! How did I not hear about this? They have a mint syrup that they make it house. It sounds crazy to add mint to coffee, but when the drink is cold, its delicious. So I recommend ordering a coffee over ice, then put a tablespoon of the mint syrup in there. So refreshing and sweet. PRO-TIP: This place is popular and the lines can get long, so the pros come in the off hours. Think midday on Tuesday. On Sunday mornings its a zoo. Thanks for coming to the East Bay, Rise & Grind!

Michael T.

Yelp
A lot of coffee options, from your typical coffees to your specialty coffees. I've tasted a couple options they provide and they do not disappoint. The service was quick also. Would definitely recommend.
google avatar

J M.

Yelp
Coffee is amazing. prices are kinda expensive but i guess standard for the bay area lol. This coffee shop is great to study at since it doesn't get so busy, but they do open at really specific hours so u gotta come early for a nice study sesh. I've tried most of the fun drinks and they're all hits !!! EXCEPT for the pb coffee; it's thick which is weird to me! Service is GREAT!!! The girls working the front when I go are quick and are always the sweetest on earth!!! The energy here is amazing! A must try if u are in the lake merritt area.
google avatar

Elisha S.

Yelp
It's always gonna be the Oakland chill for me 16 oz.. good coffee good people good music.. it's been months and all I can order is the Oakland chill every time .. the creamy flavor does it for me.. the cold brew is good as well.. my two favorite baristas make coming here even better .
google avatar

Becca T.

Yelp
The menu was limited for food, paid $7 for a sesame seed latte. It's made with powder which is fine but it wasn't well mixed and didn't really taste like sesame. Space is cute, seems like they split the fire wings in half, but it does work.
google avatar

Leah G.

Yelp
LOVED the black sesame matcha and will def be coming back for it, curious to try other things on the menu too!

Connie H.

Yelp
I go here on a monthly basis to get my matcha fix and their breakfast sandwich. The sandwich can get a little messy so have napkins ready. It is so delicious!
google avatar

Nancy L.

Yelp
Entrance is hard to find. Signage is lacking. Entrance is actually under merritt house logo. Some menu items were known by staff to be unavailable but again, no signage. Customer service was mediocre and the general vibe of the place feels off. I ordered the Oakland Chill and it was too sweet. Only plus is ample lot parking.
google avatar

Luisa S.

Yelp
I love a little variation on a traditional Vietnamese Coffee. I enjoyed every sip of my iced Oakland Chill with Oat Milk! Gave me the boost I needed to get through the rest of the day. The space is small, a few tables to sit and work or have a coffee hangout with a friend. It was fairly quiet and fast when placing my order. I'm sure this place gets packed in the morning! It is connected to Fire Wings so noise level can change. Overall, cute place and will be coming back to try all their fun lattes!
google avatar

Evelyn E.

Yelp
This spot is a hidden gem! We'll, a fairly NEW gem! Pulled in to the parking lot to charge my car this morning and I thought I should take a walk to a coffee shop. Woody's or OakCali... I let my feet direct me on my journey for caffeine... and that's when I stumbled upon this awesomely new spot. The baristas were super friendly! The menu of specialty drinks was exceptional. Unfortunately, I was too busy picking their brains about UCSC and Santa Cruz in general that I didn't take a picture of their menu boards. It's a very chill vibe. Very open and clean space. I got an Iced Cookie Butter Latte, and it was delicious. I'll definitely be back to try EVERYTHING as long as the Electrify Chargers continue to work properly ;)

Alex C.

Yelp
Rise & Grind never misses! Friendly staff and amazing coffee. I've tried several of their speciality drinks and they've always been great.
google avatar

Jean C.

Yelp
So it was a coffee with cousins Sunday and this was the spot. I had the Whopper coffee and loved it. It pops into my mind every now and then. My cousin had the Creme Brulee which was fun and yummy. My other cousin had the peanut butter which was good but didn't really taste like peanut butter. The place was clean and low-key. Friendly staff. Parked on the street. Next time I'll get my coffee to go and stroll around the lake. Enjoy!

Norman

Yelp
Okay, so it's inside of a cocktail bar that doubles as a coffee shop in the morning. Super chill vibe. The coffee was pretty good, and the breakfast sandwich I got was perfect . The service could use some polishing. Just the general vibe from the baristas were kinda off. You're waking up early in the morning and getting coffee, no one wants to have a slightly abrasive (but not unkind) experience. Like, walked in and waited to order. Instead of acknowledging my existence with the customary "I'll be with you soon", or even a "thank you for waiting" after. Overall, would go back!
google avatar

Hanna L.

Yelp
I love their iced black sesame latte. My friend recently picked up our drinks and brought back a Nutella swirl pastry (not sure of the correct name), but it had real hazelnuts! It's more of a grab-and-go place. There's a shared parking lot and near Lake Merritt.
google avatar

Abigael Osana T.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try Rise & Grind and I'm soooo happy they opened a location out in Oakland, which is a lot closer to me than SF. I also love how it's near Lake Merritt, so I can just pick up a coffee and go for a walk. It's a cute, quaint space with a large mural. I got the Iced Oakland Chill, which is a Vietnamese coffee with a twist, and it was stellar! It wasn't too sweet and not too bitter, just overall perfect. Service was quick and easy and the baristas were the sweetest. Looking forward to my next visit!
google avatar

Grace K.

Yelp
Just about the coffee in Oakland. Perfect location for a post run around the lake, walk or just an early fix. I loved the creme brûlée latte that I had. The music was also a vibe. I think this will be my go to spot whenever I'm back by Lake Merritt especially early on the weekends.
google avatar

Minh N.

Yelp
Good sesame matcha latte. The black sesame flavor is strong but not overwhelm the matcha . Staffs are really nice and helpful . They have tables and outlet with wifi so definitely be back when I am in the area.

M H.

Yelp
Delicious! Fast service and solid breakfast sandwich. Kind of empty so we ordered for takeout since the inside seems sparse
google avatar

Kimberly Y.

Yelp
We found this coffee shop on Yelp and had to give it a try when I heard they have a cookie butter latte. It definitely did not disappoint! We tried: Cookie Butter Latte: highly recommend. Whopper Latte: it was pretty good, but I preferred the cookie butter latte a bit more. Breakfast sandwich: tasted really homey. The cafe is located in a small shopping mall and parking will not be an issue. You can go for a quick walk around Lake Merritt afterward. ***********My Overall Rating********** Taste: 5 Price: 4 Environment: 4 Service: 5
google avatar

Sandy W.

Yelp
5 stars in all aspects! Coffee: so good! My fav is the black sesame latte. It's very fragrant and if you love black sesame highly recommend. I like how they added condensed milk instead of simple sugar to sweeten it. My bf got the horchata that was really good too. All the drinks were so good we ordered more to go to share with friends and family :) the barista was so nice she packed our ice separately for ease of transport and not to water down the coffee. Service: Amazing; I'm naturally indecisive and barista gave very helpful suggestions! Location: located in a plaza with plenty of parking and food surrounding it.

Fiona’s S.

Yelp
I wasn't sure what to get at first but they helped me decide on something that I really enjoyed! I got the cookie butter which was not too sweet, super good!
google avatar

Sarah L.

Yelp
So happy that Rise & Grind opened a new location in Oakland that's closer to my home! I tried this place once in SF and I loved it! The place is pretty quiet on a Monday morning. The staff here commented the cookie butter latte and it didn't disappoint! The latte was very smooth and creamy. There's a couple of tables around and the place is very clean. I will definitely be coming back here after my morning walks around the lake!
google avatar

Ajene W.

Yelp
First time here and I love it! Perfect stop before are after walking the lake. I got the Chagaccino....coffee and a nutrient dense mushroom together? Big win! The vibe is so cute, bay and chill. The staff was so helpful in helping me pick a drink and answered all my questions, no complaints with service here. My drink was delicious!
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Garbage. I got a matcha latte with oat milk and honey. Super grainy, there's literally chunks of dairy in it, not properly mixed and doesn't even taste like matcha. Overpriced. Not worth, do not recommend. My partner did get a mint cold brew. Tasted a little sour to me. He gave it a 7/10 Total came out to $14 for two 16oz cups
google avatar

Keira H.

Yelp
This coffee spot is such a great addition to the neighborhood! I love all the creative drinks they have and the staff are really friendly.

Kathie L.

Yelp
During the grand opening of Rise & Grind Coffee, I tried their ice latte, but was disappointed to find that the milk lacked foam. Additionally, their selection of nondairy milk options was quite limited.

Khatanbaatar B.

Yelp
The girl who worked at the register was rude and rolled her eyes when I asked questions about it.
