New to the area, we read the reviews and thought we'd check it out for breakfast. The food was delicious. The service was very friendly and they recently expanded their seating area to handle their peak service with minimal waits. Things that stood out for us... the poached eggs were perfectly done--egg whites were cooked while the yokes remained creamy. The omelets were overstuffed and delicious. For sure, get your hashbrowns with caramelized onions! Yum! Parking during peak service might be tight but don't let that keep you away. This is a very good diner!

This diner is a treasure. The staff are professional and friendly. The service is swift and the food delicious. The prices are less than other breakfast chains, but I notice the portions here are larger. Absolutely an awesome dining experience.

I love diners and this one did not disappoint. I got the liver and onions with collards and mac and cheese, but it was a hard choice, lots of good options and breakfast all day. People were great there, very friendly. I did not get the Brookie (brownie / chocolate chip cookie mix) which looked amazing, but I was already stuffed.

Great breakfast experience. I was pleasantly surprised by the food quality. I expected canned quality food. Every item was made fresh in the restaurant. I had the corned beef and hash omelette. Best corned beef I've had in years, maybe ever. I will eat here again for sure and I highly recommend you try it out.

Stopped enroute home from richmond. Place was crowded. Seems Locals either don't have a lot of options or it has some mystical local loyalty. EVERY table is same, wooden rectangular table size of a good card table. Individual, slightly padded conf room chairs. Open room with a bunch of tables chairs arranged in grid. Service wasn't bad, but food took forever. When it did arrive, it was not hot, lukewarm ar best. They ask if you want onions in your hash browns... don't know why cause it tastes like you got em anyway. Every square inch of wall surfaces is delegated to sponsors. I'll give them they do refill your coffee continuously while you wait. Wife asked for eggs "scrambled real dry". They were runny inside. People move, but ambiance is like a fire hall with rented tables set up, and uncomfortable chairs. My omelet was OK, pretty big actually. Toast was cold, they don't butter it. You can't either, cause butters cold and bread is cold. You won't starve, but it is anything but a relaxing breakfast.Next table is 24in away, in all 4 directions.

A FIVE STAR breakfast-brunch-lunch stop, two minutes off I-95 at 10372 Leadbetter Road in Ashland, VA. Take a break from the fast food and enjoy the excellent service, comfort food and family kid-friendly atmosphere. My country sausage, scrambled egg, and pancake breakfast was a home run! You gotta try the blueberry pancake! The menu includes eggs (any style), bacon, sausage, pancakes, waffles, ham, balogna, salt herring, fatback, scrapple, salmon cakes, corned beef hash, steak, catfish, chicken tenders, steak or ham or vegetable omelettes, quesadillas, fresh fruit, and more. Open 6 AM - 2:30 PM Monday-Friday and 7 AM-1 PM Saturday and Sunday. Great break from I-95!

We were in the area for an overnight stay and were looking for a mom and pop restaurant to eat breakfast. The Rise and Shine Dinner was highly recommended by our service manager who was born and raised here. We were not disappointed! It was a rainy Friday morning and the place was packed. You definitely got the feeling that this is the place all the locals and old timers go to eat. The servers worked in harmony with each other and were very attentive to our needs. The food was perfect and very tasty. We had the Tappahannok and Steak Bennie’s and two cinnamon rolls. Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone that is wanting a soul warming meal made with love.

Been away for a while but I had the pleasure of dining here again while in the area recently and it was hands-down awesome! So good I came back a few days later. I had a tried and true staple and my son had the cinnamon roll pancakes and perfectly poached eggs. Both were wholesome, hot and delicious! I used to live/work around the corner from here and ate or got take out often. Sometimes I would even get breakfast for my colleagues in the office. Rise and Shine always has been some of the best home cooked meals and family style service one could have.
