Google
Food is wholesome and hearty and delicious, the staff is some of the friendliest around and a typical come, eat great food and get on with the day atmosphere that has been lost with some many chains and corporate dining places. Love this spot and use any excuse I can to eat here. I have never had a bad food item or service experience.

Google
New to the area, we read the reviews and thought we'd check it out for breakfast. The food was delicious. The service was very friendly and they recently expanded their seating area to handle their peak service with minimal waits. Things that stood out for us... the poached eggs were perfectly done--egg whites were cooked while the yokes remained creamy. The omelets were overstuffed and delicious. For sure, get your hashbrowns with caramelized onions! Yum! Parking during peak service might be tight but don't let that keep you away. This is a very good diner!

Google
The amount of food you get for the price is awesome! It’s hard to find a great meal these days at reasonable prices; Rise and Shine has you covered. Food was prepared exactly as we requested and it was delicious. If there is one area where improvement could be made, it’s making sure drinks and coffee are refilled as needed. I’ll cut some slack as it was busy - just something to keep in mind to earn five stars across the board.

Google
Live eating here. The place can get pretty busy but they are fast getting your order in and your food out. They have weekday specials that are really good the one day they have catfish and a side and a drink for $9.99 what a bargain. They're open for breakfast and lunch but not dinner and they typically close around 2:00 except on the weekends where they close earlier please check their website for their hours of operation. This place is right off I 95 so if you're traveling this is a great place to stop and get food.

Google
We were in the area for an overnight stay and were looking for a mom and pop restaurant to eat breakfast. The Rise and Shine Dinner was highly recommended by our service manager who was born and raised here. We were not disappointed! It was a rainy Friday morning and the place was packed. You definitely got the feeling that this is the place all the locals and old timers go to eat. The servers worked in harmony with each other and were very attentive to our needs. The food was perfect and very tasty. We had the Tappahannok and Steak Bennie’s and two cinnamon rolls. Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone that is wanting a soul warming meal made with love.

Google
I love diners and this one did not disappoint. I got the liver and onions with collards and mac and cheese, but it was a hard choice, lots of good options and breakfast all day. People were great there, very friendly. I did not get the Brookie (brownie / chocolate chip cookie mix) which looked amazing, but I was already stuffed.

Google
My wife and I stayed nearby for a conference, and the food at the conference center we were staying at was so bad we looked for an alternative for breakfast. This place is AWESOME! The selection is great with all the traditional breakfast and even some not so traditional breakfast items. The service was outstanding. This is a local hometown diner, nothing fancy. What it is though is a great place for breakfast, brunch or lunch. The diner seemed very clean, the service was great as was the food and the value! Skip the IHOP and national chains and go here instead! This will be my go to whenever I am in this area. You guys nailed it!

Google
This diner is a treasure. The staff are professional and friendly. The service is swift and the food delicious. The prices are less than other breakfast chains, but I notice the portions here are larger. Absolutely an awesome dining experience.

Yelp
All I have to say is, WOW. The food is amazing, the restaurant is very family oriented and relaxed. The employees work together in a very coordinated way. Super friendly. I can't believe it took me this long to eat here. I will be a regular for now on!

Yelp
Wow! Why haven't I stopped here before! This place is definitely a local favorite. Went for brunch on a week day, and it's busy. I can imagine it's crazy busy on the weekend. When you walk in all you see is a register stand, out dated furniture, painted murals, patches and adds on the wall. We didn't have to wait too long, and the waitress was spot on! What makes this place amazing is the food and reasonable prices! Some of the food are made from scratch. And the "Cornedbeef Hash" was one of them. They added green bell peppers and onions, Hash and used real Cornedbeef!! You get 2 eggs, hashbrowns and toast or biscuit. It was tasty, but I suggest the biscuit with it rather then toast. It's nice and fluffy. Also ordered off a special dinner menu "Tappahannock Bennie" fried oyster, pouched egg, muffin, hollandaise sauce and substituted the fries for onions rings with an up charge. Everything was amazing the food the price and hospitality! Will definitely make this place one of my faves!

Yelp
Always a great experience at this local diner! The food is consistently great and the service is always fast and reliable! The breakfast menu is fantastic! I really can't count the times I've come here with many different friends and we always leave happily content and satisfied! The country vibe is sprinkled with devotional quotes and signage with community appreciation! One of the best diners around!!
google avatar

Yelp
Salt of the earth kind of place. Nothing fancy but gets the job done. It exceeded my expectations. I would definitely come here over Cracker Barrel or First Watch. The eggs seemed higher quality. Plus, you're supporting a local business which always is a perk.

Yelp
Rise & Shine Diner feels like home. Community and patriotic atmosphere which I love. Food is delicious and straightforward. I loved the country fried steak and biscuits and gravy. You can tell there are a ton of regulars that meet here throughout the week. Excellent value, no frills, and warm staff! Love this place so much.
google avatar

Jamie G.

Yelp
S.O.S - very good! Cinnamon Roll pancake - my daughter loved it. Scrapple - my husband loved it - fried crisp and he put it on the biscuit, which he loved! Service was excellent and quick! Definitely a 10/10 for food and service - we'll definitely be back! A+
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
It was pretty good. Our biscuits and gravy were a little cold. The coffee wasn't great. The hash browns were amazing. The pancakes and eggs were really good. Friendly service,

Yelp
Classic diner located in a strip mall. Large dining room with lots of tables. The restaurant is clean but nothing fancy. Who goes to a diner for fancy atmosphere anyway. Nice selection of breakfast items. Had the Farmboy Hash which was loaded with meat and other goodies. hash browns were cooked perfectly. Service was exceptional.
google avatar

Jennell S.

Yelp
This food here is delicious! The service was amazing! It's a little tight inside but well worth it. My mom ordered blueberry pancakes an egg and fatback and I had salmon cakes corn beef hash and two eggs

Yelp
What a delight! We always look for small town diners when we travel, and this is as good as it gets! Friendly servers help you decide between seemingly endless menu choices with a specials menu to boot! Right off the highway and next to a Sheetz gas station. No wait. A definite must-stop if you're in the area and hungry.

Chelsea N.

Yelp
My family and I ate here twice while visiting and both experiences were stellar. Efficient, friendly, and top notch food. Their specials are just that, SPECIAL!
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
The menu and food is great. The restaurant runs like clockwork. The service is good. But not super personal. It's hard when it's busy. It was Saturday morning for breakfast it was crazy. Cool place all the decor had a place and a reason. Definitely check it out.

James C.

Yelp
Prices are good and food is tasty and well-portioned. Only op-ed for breakfast and lunch. They support both police and fire personnel!
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
Great locally owned business with friendly staff and an awesome menu. Breakfast and lunch are both great.
google avatar

Troy B.

Yelp
What a cool find and it is close to our house! We had friends in town that wanted some breakfast before hitting the road. So we tried here. There was a short wait... about 15 min. But the staff were very friendly and attentive! The menu is pretty broad and everything that we had was good! This is a very nice local diner to try out!! They do breakfast and lunch. It is in a small strip mall so there is plenty of parking as well! Definite worth a return!
google avatar

Theresa A.

Yelp
Went here for breakfast about 8:30 on a Saturday and it was great. They had a line, but the line moved quickly. We had coffee and water pretty quickly while we decided what to eat. I ordered the veggie omelet and it was yummy. The others ordered the breakfast sandwich and pancakes. Everyone enjoyed their food. Would definitely go back!
google avatar

Tboy S.

Yelp
Overpriced, 1960's high school cafeteria food. About as bad as it gets. This place makes Waffle House look like The Palm.
google avatar

Sidnie B.

Yelp
A cute little seat yourself diner! The food is what you expect of a quaint diner. Pretty good!! I personally love crispy hash browns, so next time I'll ask for them extra crispy. Their eggs we're fluffy and moist! A great stop for breakfast if you're looking for that typical diner food.

Yelp
Fast service, nearly as fast as those chain stores, but far better quality. I had the Rise and Shine Breakfast while Hubs had the Nashville chicken sandwich. Both were exactly what we were craving for so they satisfied us. The ambience was lacking because we were surrounded by large billboard ads all around the diner from roofing suppliers to tractor manufacturers to lawn care etc. I guess it keeps the cost of food down but perhaps a better solution is to allocate just one panel to this and let it slowly rotate through the ads rather than surround us with the ads as if we were in a mini sports field. Like the coffee and tea service as server did inquire whether we wanted more and yes we did, not pushing yet another tea bag. Coffee better than at McD's per Hubs where he has met his friends just to for guys time. Overall a decent old time diner surviving despite the harsh economic times.

Yelp
The 2 stars is for the staff and their awesomeness..nothing else. The folks that run this place are super nice. The service is wonderful. Everyone is always smiling and they work together helping each other. The food on the other hand is horrible. I've tried multiple items and nothing is good. I would say it's below subpar . This last trip was for takeout breakfast. I ordered the air park; this comes with two eggs, choice of meat, hash browns, and choice of bread. I asked for scrambled eggs with American cheese, sausage, and biscuit. The only thing that was edible was the sausage and the biscuit. The eggs were severely overcooked to the point they were dry and brown. The hash browns were an orange color and tasted of old oil. Not very appetizing. I don't understand why people like this place...the food is disgusting.

Yelp
Solid 4 for sure. Came out here as we happened to be in the area and wanted a breakfast outing. The service here was pretty good. The waitresses were friendly and inviting and definitely worked to keep the family and kiddo happy. They pushed their food out at a pretty decent pace and it really comes down to finding the key items that shine from the menu. Most of the items are fairly common and I guess at a certain point you can only spruce up so much. I will say that the pancakes were on point. A hair too sweet for me but I can see the appeal as the texture and taste reminded me of a funnel-cake pancake. Hard to explain but if you get one, you'll get it. Overall, a solid place for breakfast. I'd definitely stop by again. Food Taste: 4 Overall Service: 4 Value of food to cost: 4 Facility: 3 Ambiance: Mom and Pop small diner feel - old school Repeat customer: yes Dog Friendly: no

Yelp
Had a great lunch at this wonderful neighborhood diner Don't look for anything fancy as far as decor Doesn't look like much from outside in a shopping center This is an everyday blue collar diner But clean, smoke free, wonderful friendly staff, quick service, Wonderful food I had the Nashville chicken sandwich and it was very good Coworker had a breakfast sandwich For lunch And liked it as well I will return when in the area

Yelp
Very Good Food, Great Service from servers who care. Nice Atmosphere to enjoy discussions and catchup with your friends & family. Always a good time when meeting your friends there.

Yelp
Good food, decent price. Country cooking. Nice down home feeling. Service is pretty quick also.

Yelp
Awesome diner! We were just driving through and needed a place to grab a late breakfast before continuing on our route. Rise & Shine was the perfect spot! I ordered a veggie omelette with Swiss cheese and it really hit the spot! The omelette was large and full of veggies (peppers, spinach, mushrooms)! It came with a side of crispy hash browns and 4 slices of rye toast. I also ordered a side of fruit which consisted of bananas and grapes. My partner ordered an egg sandwich on a bagel which he also very much enjoyed. Finally, the "free refills" for coffee was a great touch for my tired self. The service was super friendly as well and our server was especially sweet and attentive. Really felt like what an old-such diner experience is supposed to be like!

Yelp
We were out with our daughter and grandson and hungry for breakfast. We located the Rise and Shine via a Yelp search. Wow, what a delicious meal and fantastic service. I ordered the Southern Bennie (mainly because I'd never heard of it, and like to try new things). It was servered piping hot and was very delicious. The egg was cooked as ordered and the hashbrowns were amazing. The ambiance is "homey" and very comfortable.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was good: we enjoyed biscuits and gravy and S.O.S. Both eeee reminiscent of old fashioned breakfasts at Grandma's. Service was prompt and friendly. Diner has a small time vibe with add for local businesses decorating the walls.

Yelp
A busy, hustling and bustling diner with all walks of life in for a bite to eat. Pancakes are awesome here. Fluffy with crispy edges! I had the scrapple. It was nice and crispy on the outside with the desired creamy inside. Staff was nice.

Sherry B.

Yelp
We live in Fairfax and come down to the area regularly. We go to the Rise & Shine almost every time we come down. A real diner! Great omelettes and hash browns (get the onions). And everyone is nice!

Yelp
FINALLY had the chance to try this spot out. I got to try this place out with the hubby and our new addition a couple weeks before returning back to work. This place is only open during the weekday so we finally got to try it when we both were home during the week. A cute diner with plenty of space. We were lucky because we came there brunch time but it easily started filling up. I decided on their country fried steaks with over easy eggs and biscuit. Hubby got their breakfast quesadilla with has brown. There's plenty of tables to choose from and our food came out pretty quick. Big portions and left satisfied haha. Would def love to come back and bring our oldest kid to enjoy this with.
google avatar

Sonnet L.

Yelp
Nice diner! Plenty of seats and down to earth home cooking. My Phili Steak Omelette had enough meat and veggies, and came with hash browns and a biscuit. Hubby's Nashville Chicken Sandwich was crispy and spicy. You may want to ask for a glass of mold before taking a bite. We liked the food a lot.

Yelp
While road tripping we looked for places down our route and this came up, so glad it did. The place us large, clean with a good menú and super friendly and sweet staff. We ordered the salmon cakes and chicken with goat cheese frittata and both were amazing! If ever back un the area, I would definitely visit again.

Yelp
Food was excellent: straightforward, just good basic food done well. Service prompt and courteous. Place is pretty basic, but not in a detracting manner; not pretentious, just good for breakfast or lunch.

Yelp
Generally order and have delivered although I have dined in several times. Ordered liver & onions to be delivered a few months ago, and the liver was scorched a LOT. It has always been good previously. I was immediately refunded without question on the entire entree. Today I wanted to try again, had a friend over but I wasn't up to preparing a meal. I ordered liver & onions with mashed potatoes , gravy and baby limas. She ordered fried pork chops with Mac n cheese & collards. The liver was perfectly grilled and delicious! Although I wasn't a big fan of the limas they were acceptable (I can't find any anywhere that come close to my Momma's, so I may be a bit of a Lima snob). My guest's pork chops were battered and fried golden brown, juicy also. I did sample a bite and thought about asking if she would let me have one for myself, but she won't eat liver so we couldn't "share" as we normally would. You can bet there will be pork chops on my next order I have a bit over half of my entree left that will be lunch for tomorrow. Nothing was left of hers. I have had several dine in breakfast meals, sausage gravy, biscuits, salt herring, corned beef hash, etc. I have always had good experiences with the breakfast menu. Great having this place close enough to have dine in or delivery.

Yelp
Visited today and was very uneasy about the clientele and the actual business. We got some funky looks when we walked up to the diner. I'm glad i didn't wear my Black Lives Matter shirt. We weren't the normal clientele, I guess. My husband and I gave our name to the young hostesses and went outside to sit. Our last name is Washington. We noticed that folks that came after us were getting a table. So we went in, and the hostess told us she called for Watson.. but she doesn't apologize or seem even the tiniest bit sorry. And nonchalantly points to a table for us to sit at. We leave... this place isn't for everyone.. hint hint.. non white. And it looks dirty
google avatar

Melissa T.

Yelp
Amazing again! Service is great! Our orders taken within minutes of setting down and the staff was so pleasant. The food was great as always I had a new menu item a mushroom melt that was really good and would recommend.
google avatar

Jody P.

Yelp
This place is a throwback to the atmosphere and cuisine of the 1980s Richmond I grew up in. That is not a good thing.
google avatar

Lyn C.

Yelp
Large portions and friendly wait staff made my solo dining experience very pleasant. There were obviously many regular customers which is always a good recommendation!

Brianna L.

Yelp
Environment is wonderful, servers are great, and the food is even better! If you are looking for a fancy breakfast/lunch, go somewhere else. This place is for family, family's and affordable food. Overall, 10/10.
google avatar

Bertha M.

Yelp
Ordered a Philly steak omelette. Simply delicious. Everything was so fresh. Will definitely return to try put a few more items on the menu.

Mark C.

Yelp
Rise and shine is great. When you walk in they let you pick where you want to sit and then they immediately will serve you with waters. I got the banana pudding pancakes for 13$. It came with 3 pieces of bacon, 2 eggs, and 3 huge banana pancakes. The prices for all the food were low and the quality of the food was great. Nothing was bad about this breakfast spot and I'm surly coming back. Thank you rise and shine workers for the amazing service.

Yelp
Came in this morning with my wife and two kids for a late breakfast/early lunch. We grabbed a table off to the side and were helped in a pretty timely fashion, but that's pretty much where the positives end. We ordered two milks for the kids. One of the styrofoam cups had a leak at the bottom and we couldn't flag anyone down to get a new one until the food came. We ordered chicken tenders, a normal eggs/bacon/hash breakfast, pancakes, and a waffle. This took nearly 40 minutes to get to our table. I was seated with a pretty good view of the entire restaurant and almost everyone who came in after us got their food well in advance of ours. This isn't great when it's just two adults eating, but when you have an 18 month old and a 3 year old let's just say this is...less than ideal. It's difficult to articulate what a complete let down the food was when it was finally brought out. All of the scrambled eggs were ordered unseasoned and dripping with grease/butter. They actually created little pools on the plate. They were also extremely overcooked. My hash browns were burnt. Our bacon was burnt. The waffle was dry as a bone. The pancakes were greasy and one was actually burnt on the underside. The chicken fingers were burnt and also saturated with grease. I'm sure you're noticing a theme here. By this point we had been there nearly and hour and we were just over it. We packed up, paid, and rolled out. The service was garbage. Breakfast is the easiest meal to whip up quickly and it really isn't that hard not to screw it up. Failing at both is pretty impressive all things considered.
google avatar

Karen T.

Yelp
Small, local diner with lots of your typical expectations. Advertising, many friends meeting. Lots of parking! My husbands food was good. I ordered the SOS, and it was ok. My biscuits were hard. They have to sell a ton of biscuits, not sure why they were hard. Average coffee. Service was quick and the checkout process was super fast!
google avatar

Yelp
Great little Mom & Pop diner decent food. A+ for not burning g my omlette. My pancake was overdone & a little greasy. I should have sent it back. Husbands french toast was great I'll get that next time.

Yelp
I've eaten at this place quite a bit over the years. My mother used to go there all the time to meet friends and have breakfast. One of her friends, at one point, knew the owner. She also likes to eat breakfast at lunch or dinner time which is typically why we would go there together. There aren't too many options for breakfast outside of breakfast time. I'd say over the past year or two the place had gotten horrible, and I would refuse to eat there. She was craving breakfast and wanted to go there Saturday afternoon for breakfast and I reluctantly said yes. As she was ordering, she ordered things that she used to, and I had to remind her that she didn't like particular things, like the onions in the eggs and potatoes. We both like cheese and onions in our eggs and potatoes. In the past they were cooked on the flat top, usually burnt and overly greasy and slimy. We both didn't like them. She got them anyway. I ordered the breakfast quesadillas. When the food came out, it looked completely different than it used to. The onions in her eggs looked like they were raw or slightly cooked, which is what we like. The breakfast potatoes used to be grilled or baked and were typically undercooked and over-seasoned. These looked like they were fried and golden-brown. I ordered the hashbrowns and they looked 10 times better than they used to. I took the first bite of my quesadilla and it was pretty damn good. I tried the hashbrowns and they were even better. I even had to try my mother's breakfast potatoes, and they were perfect. This was completely different than our previous experiences. We asked the waitress if they had a new owner and she said yes, about two years ago. As we were paying the tab, I told the waitress that this was a much better experience than it used to be and that the food actually tasted good. My mother asked did you get a new manager or a new cook. The waitress said we got rid of all the cooks in the kitchen. We both said that was a great decision and that now, we wouldn't hesitate coming back. On the way out, we also noticed that they were expanding into the adjacent building, so things are clearly looking up. At this point, I would highly recommend.

Lynn K.

Yelp
The menu selection was pretty expansive. Service fast and friendly. Clean and prices were good. Unfortunately all of these pluses could not make up for the fact everything was drenched in cheap oil. The only thing that wasn't oily was my rye toast

Lisa S.

Yelp
Service was good and, while other tables seemed to have received hearty portions (the chicken and waffles at the next table looked and smelled great!), my full order of creamed chipped beef (S.O.S.) came in a tiny portion that far from covered even one full piece of (small) toast, though the meal came with two slices. Adding insult to injury, the very small amount of gravy that did make its way to my plate had almost NO dried beef in it. Very disappointing. They were generous with the hash browns but they were just ok. They offer a "half portion" of S.O.S. as well -- I can't even imagine what that would have looked like. Nice people and lots of customers. I would imagine that regulars have learned what to order and what not to?
google avatar

Christine B.

Yelp
Definitely a divey kind of spot but the food is solid. I went with basic eggs, sausage and a biscuit and it was perfect. Service was a little slow but they were busy. Did appreciate that they sat out large group at a few tables close together. Omelettes were also good.

Yelp
Silver fox special. Nice staff large portions , It's a diner. For a diner it's good .
