"The completely gluten-free bakery opened first in D.C. location in Adams Morgan in November 2014. The Sterling location won’t have any seating and the menu doesn’t include items like pizza and paninis, but the full roster of bakery items is available, including the Sterling-exclusive cherry almond bear claw. The bakery is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays." - Stephanie Carter

I appreciate having a bakery in this area that makes gluten-free foods. However, most of the items I've ordered have been disappointing and not worth the high cost. The biscuits are too dense, dry, and salty. The everything bagels are tough and salty. I wouldn't order either again. The cupcakes are okay. I do love the chocolate croissant, though. Get it heated. It is sweet, chocolately, and delightful. I will order it again. Please note this is not somewhere you can sit and eat. There is room for about 2-3 customers to enter, order, and exit.

For a gluten tolerant person the carrot cake wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. My coworkers and I got a cake for our boss that has allergies for a lot of things (dairy, gluten, egg, vinegar). The icing was deliciously sweet. The cake it's self has that gluten free taste. It left a gritty feel of whatever grain was used in my mouth, but had good flavor. Surprisingly it tasted better after sitting for almost two days in a ziploc bag. The icing seemed a little less sweet. If I had to get a allergen free cake I'd go back to Rise Bakery.

If you have food allergies this is the place to go for baked goods that you otherwise would never be able to enjoy. We ordered the carrot cake for partner's birthday, and it was the first time in many years that she was able to indulge in an actual cake, which was delicious. Staff was super friendly and responsive, even getting the cake ready earlier than planned. We'll definitely go back for more and look forward to trying some different items.

Inspired by desire for gluten yumminess. Tucked away in a little plaza, is this gluten free bakery which offered a surprising variety of baked delights. Very friendly service. You can feel the love going into those cupcakes from beginning to the time they are placed in your hands. All tasty, gluten free, egg free, nut free, &/or vegan. There are different locations. The one in Washington DC is offering free delivery until July 1st 2022.

Google
Super small shop, but there was a little art corner which made it feel and the cashier was incredibly patient while my mom, kid, and I tried to make up our minds and kept adding to the order! Everything was clearly labeled with Soy Free, Nut Free, etc, so it was so easy to know what I could order. The food was incredible! We got cinnamon rolls, a chocolate cake roll, s'mores bar, and biscuits. Worth every cent, and they were very reasonably priced! As someone who has been home baking Gluten free, vegan, and soy free I know how pricey it can get to eat/bake tasty food like this, so I'm even more grateful Rise Bakery exists!!

Google
Eeeeeepic gluten free selection! LOVE the sourdough bread and plethora of pastries! I bought tons of junk food that I am never able to have anywhere else and thoroughly enjoyed it!! I also appreciated that they have several frozen options, making it easy to stock up.

Google
I LOVE rise bakery. I’ve been a big fan of this company since their dc location first opened, making the hour drive just for their goodies. I was ecstatic when the Sterling rise opened , J who works there is amazing. He has great customer service and always goes above and beyond. I tell all my gluten free friends to check out Rise.

It’s a blessing that this place exists for gluten free dietary needs. Loved the banana nut cake, very moist with earthy taste. Cinnamon bun was awesome. my family member didn’t enjoy the carrot cake though. Bread was good. Will revisit for sure.

Yelp
Finally happened to be in the area, so trying this location was a must. We really enjoyed the DC location. This one doesn't seem to do sandwiches. It's even smaller, and in a tiny random, not where you would expect to find bakery! It has a tiny display of fresh pastries, shelf full of fresh baked breads and freezer full of more breads! Service is great, always with a smile. We tried a little bit of everything and ended up going back a couple of days later for some fresh bread. Finding good, like good gf bread is really hard. Most times literally hard. Got the brioche buns and was impressed for gf buns! Yes they still fell apart. Yes they weren't as soft as traditional brioche, but they were good for gf buns. I love their ham and cheese croissant. It's greasy, I prefer it cold, my kid only likes it warmed up. Donut is by far the best gf cake style donut we've ever had. It's light, flavor is incredible, moist. I typically skip gf cake donuts, but this one was calling to me, so happy we got it. Cinnamon roll was not good. Frosting had zero sugar. It was hard as a rock, so no one wanted to eat it. But as most gf cinnamon rolls, you have to eat them within a few hours, so this one could have just been too old. There's a decent amount of gluten free bakeries scattered across the DMV area, but this is by far the best for bread! The best variety, fresh and frozen. If they sell out of something you can count on they'll have a back up of something similar. Also. surprised to see complaining about prices..... I actually think they aee cheap for gluten free items!

Yelp
Customer service was friendly..... very small bakery with not a lot of options. After looking at the website, I was very excited but very underwhelmed when we got there. The items we got were very hard and heavy. I understand it's hard to bake gluten free but these were inedible, unfortunately.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place!! It's a good thing I don't live too close - I'd have to put myself on a schedule for how often I could purchase from Rise. First, it was my first time visit but it will not be last. I didn't catch the employee's name, but his service was stellar!! He answered my questions and was super personable. It's a pickup and go place so don't expect to sit down. You can sample your goodies in the car though ok the way home :-) Everything is gluten-free and they have several vegan options as well. The pumpkin roll was amazing - light and a great meld of the harvest flavors. The buttermilk biscuits were really good - they do break up a little, but who cares, it's a biscuit!!! The cupcakes - I tried so many - red velvet, cookies and cream, and that strawberry lemonade oh my goodness! All were moist, but that strawberry lemonade was amazing!!! The tiramisu was good; I wanted to try it since I've only had it at a restaurant. The lemon bar and pumpkin cheesecake were delicious!! I'm going to try and make my own version of that lemon bar real soon. You definitely have to visit this amazing bakery next time you're in NoVA - your stomach will thank me!!!

Yelp
I stopped in on a whim...it's the day before the holiday. They had "sugar cookies" already packaged up. I just grabbed those. They are my fav! I said why not! It was 6 in the box...$28...a little pricey. But whatever! A little holiday cheer! It's from a bakery! I'm sure they'll be Great! I get home...taste the candy cane shaped one first. It's DISGUSTING! The cookie is hard! Harder than I'd have expected, if it were made today. And it doesn't taste like a sugar cookie. It taste extremely bland! I just have to say I've tried Rise bakery and I won't be returning.

Yelp
This little carry out only GF bakery in an industrial park in Sterling is a hidden gem. My daughter tried the chocolate croissant and the biscuits. She declared them the best GF versions she's had yet. The staff was also very friendly and helpful, particularly given how small the retail focus is here vs the commercial kitchen. We will definitely be back to try try the brioche and chocolate babka.

Ericka S.

Yelp
I had placed a special order for a friend's baby shower of gf/vegan donuts. I had asked for a gender neutral color on the cookies (green, purple, yellow) and ended up with a box of pink donuts. This was a bit embarrassing, but thankfully she was able to laugh it off. I also ordered a cake for the party, which was a bit bland in flavor and super expensive for the size of it.

Yelp
Went to this bakery yesterday and it was a cute store front. The gentleman that helped my daughter and i was sooooo nice. He has excellent customer service. I am so happy that they are close to me. In the Sterling area. I am happy i saw this on the Morning Washington program on ABC at 10AM. It is great that they keep their baked goods frozen for a period of time. Cause as a home GF baker, the shelf life is not very long. And their ingredients list are great. This is truly a great Bakery to visit and enjoy the baked goods. Cause the GF products that are out there are really not that great and have some not so good for you ingredients when they come from these huge bake houses. I call them factory bakery. So, enjoy everyone. Stop by and get a from scratch baked good from this little hidden gem.

Yelp
We don't love everything here, but for the things we found that we do love, it's been worth trying everything we've found to return for. LOVE LOVE LOVE: *Chocolate cake *Hazelnut brownie *Cheesecake *Biscuits (sold 4 in a bag) Was ok: *Cookies n cream cupcake Didn't enjoy: *Turnover *Eclair *Cinnamon roll (this was a shocker as I rarely meet a cinnamon roll I don't like) *Scone *Croissant The items we didn't enjoy were because they were far too dense and had a strange mouth feel (for us). Don't know whether it's the flour or the shortening or both, but if you want to try one and don't like it, chances are you won't like the others listed as they're similar in texture. Or if you like or love it the same thing applies: chances are you will like the others on this list. There are still more items to try but we pretty much stock up on the slices of chocolate cake and biscuits whenever we visit this bakery. Wrap them in foil and in the freezer they go for reheating whenever we want a wonderfully decadent dessert.

Yelp
Awesome. Super yummy gluten free Ask to Warm up the item you're going to eat tastes so good

Mandeep S.

Yelp
First time I visited this bakery wasn't a great experience as the croissants were kind of oily and not that well baked as I expected. I did decide to revisit to try some of the other things like biscuits and donut. I'm so glad that I decided to go back because both of those things were delicious. Super happy to finally treat myself to a good biscuit again. Staff was also super friendly and nice

Allie Y.

Yelp
this is a gluten free (also other allergens) bakery! located in an industrial block of buildings, the last thing you'd expect is a bakery. but here is rise! it's a very small retail location with, I'm guessing, a larger commercial kitchen in the back. my SIL has celiacs, so we came here to get her some gluten free goodies before her flight to Europe. she snagged a few things for the flight and got me a croissant. the pastries are hefty. like you'll eat it and feel like you just ate a brick. they are dense haha my SIL loved it and is looking forward to returning when she's here for thanksgiving!

Yelp
I was visiting Virginia for the first time and as a traveler w/ gluten sensitivity, this was one of the places I really wanted to go! I checked the website and had list of things I was planning on buying but because of the thunderstorm, I couldn't come until the last day. I came right before heading to the airport and was told that most things were sold out by 10:30! He said things sell out really fast especially the day after it rains. Wow! Didn't know that they were that popular! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to drive to the Washington DC location so I chose the CHEESECAKE BROWNIE. I saw bags of bread and tiramisu as well but just couldn't take them with me on the plane.... :( I handed him my money and he said it's ok and didn't charge me... That is so sweet! It was worth coming all the way from California! :) As for the Cheesecake brownie... it was super moist and really really good! I will definitely get it again! No wonder everything sold out quickly...You can't tell it's GF and Non-GF people will also enjoy this for sure. When I visit Virginia again, I will come straight from the airport so I have days to try out different things. If you plan to stop by, make sure to come early so you have lots of options to chose from! Wish they were in California... thank you and I will definitely come again! :) FYI: They also have parking!

Yelp
This place is absolutely AMAZING! I've been gluten-free for over 20 years and I'm in heaven with their baked goods. Everything I've had is simply delicious. They also hold up well so no worries about buying extra to have the rest of the week! The prices are also so reasonable!

Maria M.

Yelp
Very tasty baked goods! Definitely hits a lot of cravings for this gluten free girl. I recommend their ham and cheese croissants, yum!

Angelmate P.

Yelp
This place is really great! A gluten-free bakery. Now I am a very fit person so having a little bit of sugar and no wheat felt a little bit. Customer service was awesome and just enough there to enjoy. Make sure you have the biscuit and the carrot cupcake.

Brian L.

Yelp
Loved this little bakery! They have all gluten-free items and double up on other allergies (e.g., no nuts or no dairy). The prices were reasonable and the taste and textures were pleasant. I'm only in the area for visiting DC but if I am ever in the area again I'll definitely come back!

Michelle B.

Yelp
This. Place. Is. Incredible! I am so thankful they opened in Sterling, what a perfect addition to this area! Its an 100 % GF bakery and everything is SO delicious! My hubby approves; too and he it not even gluten free! We had the chocolate croissants, vanilla donut, nutella brownie and the everything bagel pack! Wow! The staff is as nice as can be and so helpful and they also do curbside and us and we SO appreciate this and respect businesses that provide this. Thank you Rise Bakery, we can't wait to come back and try more!

Riley G.

Yelp
I am so excited to have found such an allergy friendly bakery. It is a little hole in the wall but it is amazing and i was so excited to see all of their options. I had the turnover and the banana bread .. awesome taste! This will 100% be my new go to place!!

Kitana K.

Yelp
Amazing!!!! I have been GF for a long time and am always frustrated by the fact that BREAD is never great (many companies have amazing toast / sliced bread). I finally ate. Ham and cheese croissant and a chocolate croissant that were delicious. However - what blew me away were the Challah bread the yummy biscuits and the brioche bread. Absolutely outstanding!!! They were as good as the non GF breads. I also sampled some of their desserts, which were good.

Robert C.

Yelp
If you are going to call it a baguette then make it properly....not some south virginia knock off. What you sell as a bagutte is more of a large bread stick.

D'Jounika M.

Yelp
As far as dairy free and gluten free baked goods go, I was more than pleased at the flavor and texture of the cupcakes. I LOVE carrot cake and theirs did not disappoint! I placed an order over the phone, and the service coming through the line was unmatched. I can't wait to try more from them!

Autumn F.

Yelp
Honestly, I'm impressed. I got a cinnamon roll, a bear claw, a cookies and cream cupcake, and a buttermilk biscuit. The cinnamon bread looked really tempting and I almost got it too, but I didn't want to overdo it. Now I wish that I had. I ate the cinnamon roll first--it was pretty good, but it seems like all gf cinnamon rolls fall short of the gluten kind. It was one of the better ones I've had tho, by far the best that I've purchased. I think if I had warmed it up it would've compared to the homemade ones I've made in the past. But it was good. Then I had the bear claw. Oh my goodness. My non-celiac husband had a bite and actually liked it--apparently it tastes pretty much the same as a regular one. It was buttery, flakey, and everything you want in a pastry. I can't wait to try the buttermilk biscuit now. At first I wasn't expecting much, mostly because it has almost that warehouse-bakery feel, it's not like walking into Dominique Ansel's or anything. But I'm really pleased with what I got. I have celiac, so having lots of yummy choices is such a welcome experience. I'll definitely go back.
