8 Best Boba Tea Spots in Charleston - Eater Carolinas

"Riso Noodle House serves a variety of different noodle dishes from East and Southeast Asian cuisines, including pad thai, pho, and mei fun. The classic black bubble tea with tapioca pearls is great for an on-the-go drink while out running errands in the heart of West Ashley." - Michael Pham

Google
Just a tiny hole in the wall store front, but it was SO good! We were in Charleston for a couple days for my daughter's birthday, and she loves ramen, so we picked this due to the high Google reviews, and it did not disappoint! I got the wonton noodle soup (quite flavorful), and others got sweet and sour chicken, Singapore Chicken, and yakisoba with shrimp. It was all delicious, and we very much enjoyed it. We'll be back!

Google
First timer. I ordered take out. I got the beef pho (no meat) and edamame. They are both delicious!!! I really enough pho a couple times a month but haven’t tried anywhere in Charleston. I’m glad I landed on Riso. The broth is so flavorful. The chili oil is a great touch. The portions are generous and it’s perfect to heat up for later. Something worth mentioning, the veggies could be chopped a tad smaller but it’s not a bother. I know some people who prefer bigger size vegetables in their pho. The edamame is seasoned perfectly and cooked thoroughly. I definitely recommend this place!

Google
Finally a good pho 🍜 place in Charleston area!! So delicious. Even my 6 year old scarfed it down! I ate so much beef pho I couldn’t move after. So worth it. Will be back asap!

Google
Great eatery for lunch and dinner items. I would highly suggest the Szechuan chicken bone in which is truly authentic to Chinese cuisine . It’s very spicy and will clear your sinuses ,if you’re not into spicy I would not recommend . I also had the calamari chunks which is a different take on traditional calamari tentacles and rings . Also on the spicy side . Easy to find parking in this lot

Google
Today I came here for lunch. They have the best fried calamari with tiny bits of fried bell pepper and onions. Something about the combination with all the flavors is just so delicious along with the spicy chili sauce is awesome. I also had the lettuce wraps with chicken which was full of flavor I think this will be my second favorite dish!!

Google
this might be my new go to spot for when I visit Charleston! I love shrimp so I got their shrimp fried rice, shrimp spring rolls, milk tea with boba and shrimp pad 🤩 all were delicious! 😋 place is small, unassuming, cozy with yummy foods. plenty of parking as well. The employees were friendly 💜

Google
The wonton noodle soup was excellent. I got mine spicy on uber eats and when it mixed with the broth it was so good and had a pleasant spice level. The wontons after sitting in the soup tasted like soup dumplings and were delicious. It’s a really large portion with great flavor. Would recommend.

Google
A friend ordered Riso Noodle House on Uber eats a few days before my visit. I stopped and ordered General Tso’s Chicken extra spicy. They seemed understaffed the day that I was there, but that did not affect the service. The gentleman working the tables and the register was hustling. The food was good and spicy. It was not a spicy as I would’ve liked, but I generally have a higher tolerance and acceptance of heat.I will definitely be going back.

Yelp
Really solid Vietnamese food (along with some Japanese), at a super affordable price. Small family run restaurant that looks unassuming outside and inside, there is really nothing fancy here. Service was fast and friendly which is always appreciated. I can't remember the last time I got this much food in the Charleston area for anywhere near this price. I loved my beef pho and summer rolls, the gyoza was good and my girlfriend's teriyaki chicken was pretty tasty, especially the zucchini which was cooked just right. Set your expectations to "lots of home cooked food at a good price in a takeout style place" and you will see why Riso is a winner. J.Ja

Yelp
Went on Christmas Eve as a returning customer. Have gotten to know the owners over the years, and they are kind folks that work hard at bringing quality meals. Their menu cover some fan favorites, and they were kind enough to coordinate some traditional dishes for my family's Xmas Eve dinner together (Cantonese/Hong kong style cooking) Always happy to go back here!

Yelp
New favorite takeout spot for sure! We ordered the duck noodle soup, which was huge and tasted great - lots of onion flavor. We ended up splitting the soup between two people. I also ordered the appetizer sized honey walnut shrimp, which was so incredible!! Not the best portion size but the flavor was awesome. Lastly I got the Lumpia which tasted so crispy - loved it! Plenty of parking for an easy pickup. Check out their lunch menu for super reasonable prices.

Yelp
Honestly, after my experience here, I'm shocked with their ratings. While in West Ashley, I stopped in here for a quick lunch...and the place was fairly empty. The place was spacious enough, with plenty of tables, but there wasn't much effort made in making the place nice or cozy. The place just struck me as barren, stark, silent (no music at all)...and all-around awkward. The most awkward aspect was how a table in the middle of the restaurant was used as some cash register (??)...and sadly, it struck me as if the place was just intent on making money, but not putting much effort in making the dining experience nice at all. Service was quite awkward as well. When I entered, the 3 wait staff just stood there, staring...without even saying welcome, would you like to sit, or ?? Talk about a rude greeting! I actually had to tell them myself that I was here for lunch, and if I can get a table...as in Hello, People, Wake up??? I just didn't know what to make of their rude behavior. I mean, you don't just stare down a guest coming into your restaurant without a word...as in no greeting, or asking if she/he wants a table. Just rude...that is all! I ordered their Pad Thai w/ Shrimp, along with this appetizer, BBQ Buns...and Thai Iced Tea with Tapioca. Initially, I had some hopes...in that the presentation of the foods looked pretty good. I especially liked the BBQ Buns. Not only attractive, but they were quite good. Then reality set in. Their Pad Thai w/ Shrimp was...just bad. WAY too wet and soggy...with not much flavor. I just can't sugarcoat it...it tasted terrible! I basically took 3-4 bites out of the dish, and nearly spat it out. THAT bad. Thai Iced Tea is usually fool-proof...but this one barely had any flavor to it. And OH, when the waitress brought this drink to me, she basically spilled it unto the table. HUH?!? My waiter was a little short on English, and I get that...but again, there was that awkward rudeness. For instance, he did not even respond (with a single word!!!) when I said things...as in WTFLOL. Like when he asked if everything was OK (near the end of my meal), and I said that honestly, the Pad Thai was too wet and soggy, he simply did not respond. Total silence. Of course he didn't make any attempt to compensate for the dish (not that I asked) either. It was just...again...awkward! Bad food, bad service, bad ambiance. Obviously, I did NOT love this place. Never again!

Yelp
Got the milk tea boba tea and kimchi udon soup. The boba tea was delicious and not overly sweet and the uson soup was tasty. Sour soup base with lots of kimchi, veggies, fat udon noodles and lots of seafood. Service was very good and restaurant was spacious so you didn't feel clustered.

Yelp
This place was just ok. I ordered the Pad Thai and it wasn't really peanutty, it has this red sauce but I'm not sure what it was, it didn't really have any flavor. My husband had the beef pho and found the flavor lacking as well. It wasn't awful, but we certainly won't be back

Yelp
We enjoyed eating here because they have the best Honey Walnut Shrimp. The Chinese food is great. Simple modest dining area.

Yelp
Perfect tucked away Jewel in West Ashley! Amazingly my mother told me about this spot. Quiet and cozy restaurant! And Mother knows best! Delicious ramen! Delicious Bubble tea! And the best of them all, GREAT PRICE!

Yelp
Fabulous food--fresh, good tasting, ready on time! We love it for lunch or dinner. Committed vegetarians.

Yelp
Love Riso! We order here frequently. Great food great variety. Love that they also have boba!

Yelp
The atmosphere is vey basic, pricing is good, service is good, and the food is well worth the price.

Yelp
We came here specifically for the hot pot and were not disappointed!!! Be prepared that it takes about 20 minutes for them to prepare and you can pick between non spicy, spicy, or both broths. I recommend the spicy broth and will probably ask for extra spice next time. The hot pot is $40 for a minimum of 2 people, but I would say this would feed 3-5. It comes with bok choy, zucchini, napa cabbage, tofu, glass noodles, and mushrooms. The included meats are lamb, beef, chicken, and pork, which are all thinly sliced for easy cooking. The veg and meats were fresh and tasty! This is definitely a fun way to spend a Sunday brunch with friends!

Yelp
I used to love eating here and was a regular to the point that the waiter knew my order. However They have really let the place go and the bugs take over. Today I received a cockroach IN MY BOWL OF PHO. The pho special is not supposed to be a roach protein surprise! I get it that restaurants have bugs to some extent, but this isn't the first time seeing them there either. Extremely saddened and disgusted

Yelp
Was looking for a good "chicken noodle" soup to help with this stopped up head! Decided to give Riso a try and so glad I did! The Chicken Pho did the trick! The broth was light and delicious! Jay the right amount of noodles and chicken! Then add in the cilantro, onions, basil, bean sprouts, jalapeños, hoisin and spicy chili paste made for the perfect soup! The spicy chili paste really helped to unstop my head! Sorry I forgot to take a picture before I ate every drop of this delicious soup!

Yelp
Riso is just about as authentic as you can get in Charleston. We've been several times but I will say this last time was our least favorite visit. Food was not as spicy and flavorful as usual but the doesn't mean we won't keep going back. The spicy Szechuan chicken was something new we tried and it was delicious. Also tried the limpia for the first time and was slightly disappointing. The hotpot is what we always come back for. You can get spicy or regular. We got half and half this time. It comes with chicken, lamb, beef, pork and vegetables that you cook in the spicy broth. I have yet to find a place in Charleston that does anything similar.

Yelp
It's a great place! One star ding for not having an efficient order online service. Order was supposed to be ready at a certain time and it wasn't. Had to wait 15 minutes. People, who were ordering on the spot, got their meal before me. That being said, everything was tasty. Forgot to get pics of Bubble Tea, perfect shrimp lo mein with shrimp basil roll. I did get a pic of my tasty House Pad Thai--beef, shrimp, chicken, and pork. Yummy!

Yelp
I've been eyeing this restaurant for about a month now and today I went in for lunch. I was immediately greeted by two friendly wait staff/hosts and seated. I was the only one in the restaurant, as I timed my visit to miss the lunch rush. The food was delicious! I ordered the Shrimp Pad Thai and Gyoza (pan fried dumplings). I also asked for a little of the hot chili oil on the side. The dishes were beautifully presented and very tasty. The waiters were so friendly and we chatted and watched a funny video on one of their iPhones. We also spoke about traditional Chinese dishes we love. Of course, my waiter being Chinese, knew much more about the various dishes and recommended me to try a few next time I'm visiting my best friend in New York City. The other waiter showed me a picture of a little snowman he made when it snowed in Charleston a few years back. He used Chopsticks for arms and cheese puffs for buttons. Cute! Speaking of my best friend, I sent her the pics of my food that I'm attaching to this review. I told her that I was definitely taking her here when she visits me! I loved the food, the staff was so friendly, and the decor was calming and inviting. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
I ordered pork lumpia, sweet and sour chicken with fried rice and a bubble tea- green tea base with passion fruit flavor and lychee pearls. All the food tasted fresh. Especially the tea! Traditionally sweet and sour chicken is predominantly breading served with thick red sauce. This was white meat served with an amazing chili garlic thinner sauce. Another good experience

Yelp
If you love Singapore Pancit this is the best place to get it in Charleston. I normally order mine level 2/5 spice and my partner orders theirs level 3 spice. If you get it to eat in-store the flavor generally is consistent throughout. If you order it to-go, be sure to stir the dish before enjoying. The owners and servers are pretty cool and contribute to a nice ambiance. Also, they have a great selection of boba tea if you like that as well. I like their coconut slushy with popping lychee pearls. My partner prefers their traditional boba with black tea on the rocks.

Yelp
So good!! I actually got the veggie pho because I don't eat much meat anymore... I know meat pho is what it's alll about but WOW the veggie pho was so good!! Also got the pan fried dumplings which were delicious as well. Excited to have found such a great noodle spot in our neighborhood!
google avatar

Ian R.

Yelp
I ordered the beef pho. I was impressed. It came out looking very plain but it had a lot of flavor. I'm curious as to how their broth is not super oily but still packs the flavor of pho. Good amount of meat and noodles in the bowl as well. Added limes because that's my favorite way but yeah really solid spot and better than my expectations.

Yelp
I picked up Riso Noodle house takeout the other day and it's just as great as eating in! I still love the udon noodles with your choice of protein. The soups are always a favorite and you can ask about the hot and sour egg drop soup from the secret menu because it's not listed on the regular one. They also have amazing apps like lumpia, gyoza, and so much more. Everything was ready when I arrived and they stacked it neatly into a bag and set me up with some sauces too. I got home and everything was still piping hot and delicious!

Yelp
1 word: scam Ordered the spicy beef noodles and the ramen from Uber Eats. Spicy beef noodles: Tasted like a Chinese instant noodle I ate as a child. Beef was very tender, good soup too although not sure how much of it was instant soup. Noodles looked like the dried ones I buy at Publix. Tasted a bit like mala than beef soup but overall pretty good. Ramen: I did not expect this to be 99% instant ramen. The soup was full-blown MSG flavor, and even the noodles came right out of an instant pack. I believe this was around $13, a little less than the spicy beef noodles. I do not believe this restaurant uses any bone broth for its soups at all. The boiled egg was very over. At least the meat, pieces of red Chinese char siu and 4 tiny strips of fish cake were decent. TLDR: I spent ~$30 on Uber Eats to eat 2 bowls of instant noodles that I could have made at home in under 5 mins at lower than $5 cost.

Yelp
I was craving asian soup and veggies for lunch so decided to find a place over this way to try. I have my fav go to place in Sville, but working over here in W Ash, I needed a go to in case of another noodle craving. After seeing the pics on here, I decided to choose Riso. I ordered the Lettuce wrap and Veggie soup. The place itself is small, but was occupied by quite a few people - always a good sign. A bit on the dark side in terms of lighting inside, but not horrible. My order was ready within 15 mins. I paid through the Yelp site - first time doing that (simple and easy process btw). When I gave the young man at the register my name, he said it was ready and went to pack it up. There seemed to be some issue with what I paid as a woman in the kitchen said something about pricing or paying - he told her I already paid for it, and the topic was dropped. Was a tad awkward for me to hear and not ask about it, he said not to worry about it. Got to work and devoured the lettuce wrap. Very yummy and exactly what I wanted - mostly chicken in and some veggies. Low fat and low carb. Flavor was delicious, though I did add some soy sauce for salt. The soup was a bit on the bland side, definitely could have used some spicing up or salt or something to give it flavor other than water. I did eat the large amounts of veggies in the soup - i took them out of the soup and added them to the meat in the lettuce wrap. I will try it again - they have mixed reviews so figure maybe they were having an off day that day.

Yelp
Had the BBQ buns, Szechuan chicken and the General Tsao chicken it was amazing! The noodle dishes looked delicious also!
google avatar

Alex W.

Yelp
Nothing wrong with the product, it's exactly the Americanized noodles you expect it to be. It tasted just fine. The complaint is you can get the same quality from a dart throw Chinese place on Google and get three times as much for the same price. I think it's the only Chinese noodles order I've ever had that I finished the night I got it.
google avatar

Emilee B.

Yelp
I've always wanted to try a Hot Pot and finally able to here!! It was amazing, I will definitely come back! Also I've had the pho and gyoza and udon and they were all extremely good
google avatar

Joseph L.

Yelp
Solid and well-cooked recipes. Surprised I can order Japanese, Thai, Chinese, or Vietnamese styled dishes. Support the family businesses.
google avatar

Vivian W.

Yelp
We came here for dinner as i want their super spicy noodle soup. But when i ask them and try to order that noodle soup, they say it's no longer in the menu, just a picture. Too bad. So i ordered Vietnamese noodle soup. Husband order fried noodle bowl. He is really impressed with the noodle bowl, and the meat and veggie stirfry inside is not like normal Chinese restaurant with a sweet taste, so he really likes it. My pho is good, except the beaf, the beef is not the typical Vietnamese beef noodle pho beef. Itsmore like a sliced piece of beef after cooked. It should be a raw very thin sliced beaf, and should be very tender and juicy. But their beef is hard and firm. But they offer a lot of beef in the soup, more than what u can get in a typical pho.
google avatar

Chelsi U.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this noodle house. The staff was very sweet and accommodating. I ordered the beef pho which came with all the accompaniments. It was tasty and the meatballs in it were delicious! The man got the curry soup and it was good too, but he said he wished he ordered mine once he tasted mine. I liked tasting both dishes. The noodles in the curry were big and I like that. I'd definitely return to this location to get my big bowl of pho on a cold day!

Yelp
After spending the weekend in Charleston, South Carolina; I wanted to end off the trip with a south. YELP had recommended this shop for some curry noodle soup. Riso was surprisingly located 10 minutes from where I stayed. I decided to order the noodle soup along with the chicken wings lunch special. The prices were very affordable for the amount of food. The curry noodle soup was not what I had in mind. It was more of a massaman curry noodle soup. It was eatable but not my cup of tea. The chicken wings were great. Overall, the customer service was an A+. The waiter was tentative and very kind. Another A++ for the warm greeting when we entered the restaurant.
google avatar

Madison R.

Yelp
Th food is always amazing here. I highly recommend the Pho or Pad Thai. The staff is always helpful, and so kind. One person at our table didn't like her dish (she thought she was ordering something else, no fault of Risos), and they took her food back & replaced it with something new. The price is pretty fair, but can get expensive quickly. Portions are huge.

Frank B.

Yelp
Great food, good service. the spring rolls were exceptionally good. I would recommend ding here again.
google avatar

Soo Y.

Yelp
Ordered Pho, honey walnut shrimp, taro tea without bubbles, and vegi lumpia. I can't say it was my best meal, but still I enjoyed them. Taro tea was too sweet and creamy to my taste, so I had to add some ice water to make it smoother. Vegi lumpia, fried spring roll was also pretty good with sweet dipping sauce. Probably beef lumpia might have mire flavor than just vegi, tho. I enjoyed honey walnut shrimp, the most. Crispy shrimps were well blended in taste with walnut and cream sauce. Pho was also pretty well prepared with variety of meats and fresh leafy herbs that are my favorites. However, wished the soup base had more deeper flavor and noodles were a bit more wider. To my taste, soup was a bit too light, although I enjoyed mostly. Servers were very attentive, smiley and friendly. Price for altogether was only $26 before tips. Parking is also plenty. For the price, this was pretty nice visit. I will try their everyday wing special, next time.

Yelp
Everyone raves, but it was awful. It was boring. All the dishes we ordered tasted the same.....And the food looked nothing like those beautiful pictures on their website.
google avatar

Jay T.

Yelp
Craving for some Pho and Chinese food. This place showed up on yelp. Looked like a very ordinary place at first. They were quick to get us a table. Ordered a Vegetable Soup to start with, and Pad Thai - chicken was the next. The soup came first and it was really delicious. Expected the flat noodle for the Pad Thai, but it wasn't. They made it egg-less and it tasted great in the ground peanut sauce. It was quite a good experience. The people over there are fantastic and helpful. Service was great too. Their menu looks really good, a lot of things to try. Will definitely go back here when I visit this area again.
google avatar

Terinna C.

Yelp
Great Cantonese/Hong Kong style food. They even have hot pot, it is so so good. Their wonton noodle soup is delicious, reminds me of the food from the restaurants at home and abroad. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for Cantonese food- yes that's a type of Chinese cuisine if you're wondering. Lol.
google avatar

Kat T.

Yelp
Love this place! Not so convenient for me, but Ibtry to go when I'm in the area. It's very fresh and reliable and they have reasonably priced lunch specials. Healthy sized portions are served, so you won't leave hungry. Service is excellent! Servers are very friendly and accommodating. I'm not sure how they do it, but you never wait long once you've ordered. Booths could really stand to be recovered, but they have put covers on them to help temporarily. They have Boba (bubble tea) for $3.95. Check it out if you haven't before. The restaurant is in a shopping centre, so not much true curb appeal, but it provides for easy access and plenty of parking. I sought this place out initially due to Yelp reviewers, so good job you! I will definitely keep coming back now that I have found it.
google avatar

Bien T.

Yelp
Not many restaurants have hot pot and this one nailed it. Big portion and tasty food. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
This was surprisingly good. In town for work and found it. Great for vegetarians as they us veggie oil for almost everything and they said most dishes can be made vegetarian. I had the broccoli and tofu. It was really good. Enjoy!
google avatar

Carol L.

Yelp
My son and I stopped for lunch on Thursday. Business was slow. We ordered bubble tea with popping pearls. He had the lychee slushy, and I had the mango slushy. They were absolutely delicious and fun! They were served in glass glasses too, not plastic or Styrofoam cups- a nice touch. The menu offers Filipino, Japanese, Thai, and other Asian choices. Nice. We shared the lumpia appetizer. You can tell they're homemade not factory made which is a nice touch. They were pretty good even if still kind of refrigerator cold in the center. He ordered the hibachi chicken, and I had the General Tso chicken. Both dishes were great. They brought us a variety of at least 5 sauces to choose from: yum yum, soy, chili, hoisin, and siracha. There was so much food we had leftovers to take home. We look forward to going back again!

Yelp
Riso Noodle House on Sam Rittenburg Boulevard in West Ashley is one of my favorite places to go for Chinese food, noodles, and soups. Everything on the menu here is so delicious, flavorful, and well prepared that it is difficult to narrow down a choice sometimes so it is better to order multiple items. The staff here makes everything easy whether you are doing take out or eating in and is very friendly and cool. I really like eating here.

Lauren P.

Yelp
I was vacationing in Charleston and someone told me to come here. it is amazing, the food was delicious and staff is super friendly and helpful even though they looked like they were slammed with to go food tickets. Everything I watched them prepare in the to go containers looked and smelled delicious. it was so hard to decide what to get so I ordered pho since we don't have anything like this back home. It was delicious. I am making this restaurant my new tradition every time I come to Charleston for vacation now.
google avatar

Jonny S.

Yelp
Some of the best authentic oriental food in the area. Everything seems to be made from scratch, and always exceeds expectations. The pho is some of the best you can get in the area, and the service is usually pretty fast.

Yelp
This place has found their stride. I highly recommend the spicy beef. I order from year at least 3 times a week. It's great comfort food.

Yelp
Welllll...after telling my wife how good the flavors were at Riso, and I was absolutely craving a good "duck noodle soup", I convinced her to give it a try. We took a take away order of (duck noodle soup, shrimp pad Thai and an order of summer rolls) I hate to say it about ANY meal we are served but, This was probably the worst meal we've had. The duck noodle soup consisted of more than 3/4 bone and fat to a minimal amount of actual duck meat. (Photo) I will say what I tasted of the duck was good. The broth for the soup was just okay. I was very disappointed. My wife had the shrimp pad Thai. There were about 8 small shrimp (which isn't a bad ratio for the noodle dish). BUT, it tasted so bad that she tossed it in the trash after a few bites. Before she tossed it, I took a bite of the shrimp/noodle. It not only tasted bad, but it had a strange smell to it. The highlight of the meal was the summer rolls (which themselves were just okay). We were very disappointed with the food needless to say. My wife said that she would not be going back (can't blame her). Sorry Riso, strike two. And we were excited about having a local noodle house close by.
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty much your standard American-Chinese food restaurant. There wasn't much spectacular with the flavors, mostly typical fare. I had the Chicken Lo-Mien which was a little bland, but the service was good and the prices aren't too bad so that bumped it up from 3 to 4. I get the feeling that this is more popular as an easy Chinese Take-Out spot.
google avatar

Chris D.

Yelp
I'll never understand why there isn't a line down the block to get into this place. I get one of the noodle soups every time I come. They're so good! The ingredients are fresh and the portions are very generous. The food looks great and orders come out quick. I drive all the way from Summerville to eat here.

Yelp
Finally found a noodle house!! Super good! I got the curry noodle soup and it was excellent, can't wait to come back to try the ramen! Great prices and seems authentic. Cute little family owned gem. Only reason I gave it four stars was because the atmosphere could've been a little better, updating the seating and decor would be really great for them, and they stayed busy all night! One more thing to add, is that I hope they switch to more eco friendly take out containers, I hate styrofoam!
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered from them a few days ago. Very quick service, nice employees and food was very good! I tried the lettuce wraps, little messy to wrap them but super good so it was worth it! Trying it again today but a different dish.
