"Despite its out-of-town location, this contemporary, simply decorated restaurant is extremely popular. Fans of traditional cuisine will be in their element here, thanks to the perfectly prepared cuisine which is unfussy yet delicious and full of strong flavours." - Michelin Inspector

This place is quite the trek away, highly recommend taking the bus there. Since we're dolts from NYC we decided to walk there from the center of Bologna, it took a really long time. If you get there too early there isn't much around in the neighborhood so try to time it! The lasagna is as good as they say.

This might be the best dinner of my Italy trip, so far! The lasagne is 7 layers of pure perfection! I can’t even describe it. I’ve never tasted anything like it. Started off the meal with a whipped potato and Parmigiano Reggiano flan, and veal tongue with tuna sauce and caper flowers. Then came the lasagne. It literally was so good that it made me tingle all over! Finished the meal with something that kinda resembled a Carmel flan, but moister and softer, and a ball of whipped mascarpone with burnt caramel sauce. Definitely a 5 star meal! 🤤😋

Best lasagne in the world. No comments needed!!!! Service was top and a bonus: Dogs are welcome Beside there lasagne we had the mixed cuts for starters and a cotelleta (was okay) for secondi. Other than that, best restaurant and experience in Bologna.

We found this restaurant on a Michelin guide and decide to visit. Firstly, it is located quite far away from the city center and you should consider that, coz on the way back you would definitely need a taxi. We have tried several dishes which shared. Not everything impressed us. But we would definitely recommend dish with poached egg (uovo in camicia) and tortellini in doppio brodo di carne. These 2 dishes are on the pictures and they were amazing. We would also recommend to choose wine yourselves. We relied on the sommelier advices but he did not recommend good options - very strong wine which spoiled the impression of the evening and price wise it was not a reasonable choice.

Amazing experience, service and food! Original local cuisine, with the best lasagna I have ever had. The quality of service is out of this world.

The overall dining experience at this restaurant was spoiled by the feeling that we were being rushed through our dinner so that the next sitting could be accommodated. We were not offered the wine list at the same time as the food menus and had to ask for it. We had just ordered wine when bread and an offering of mortadella arrived. Before we had a chance to eat this or to have a sip of our wine, the starters arrived. We ordered the poached egg with truffle dish and the onion tart. Both were tasty but not exceptional. For mains we had a lasagne and a tortellini al ragu as we had heard that this was a good representation of the original Bologna cuisine. It was all well cooked and flavoured, if rather heavy for our tastes. The waiting staff seemed pressured and there was no warmth or friendliness. It all seemed rather cold, albeit very professional. We left some of our bottle of wine as we felt that we should leave the table. All in all it was just not a relaxing evening out I’m afraid.

Exceedingly good service right from the get go. Everyone was super nice, even though we were attended by different people, they got everything right and were always eager to suggest things to make our experience even better. I highly recommend ordering the lasagna, it was a 10/10.

Yelp
I have a difficult time understanding why anyone would recommend this restaurant, specially Mario Batali.Maybe it has been a while since he has eaten there. I think that eating Italian food should be best in Italy, but wrong we were. There were six of us on our last night in Bologna, after having mostly wonderful experiences at other restaurants we decided to come to Al Cambio. Two of our friends are Italian, so language was not a problem. From the beginning the waiter seemed indifferent as if he didn't want to do his job, even though the restaurant was not busy. We did ask about the Pancia di Vitello and although we were told it was a little fatty it turned out to be a slab of fat with hardly any mea on it. The tortellini in brodo were almost uncooked. When our main dish arrived, five of us received our food but since the waiter took the order incorrectly one of us was left waiting for 30 minutes before receiving the correct dish. No acknowledgement from the waiter on his mistake, if anything, he then disappeared for the rest of the evening. We don't need to be pampered, just served properly. Food 3, Service 0, Price above average, ambience not impressive.
