Alfredo

"If you are looking for authentic Italian cuisine in Cologne, Roberto Carturan is your man. His father, Alfredo, laid the foundations for upscale Italian cuisine in 1973, and the second generation of the Carturan family has cultivated a straightforward and minimalist style of cooking. The chef himself is responsible for the friendly, informal and elegant atmosphere: he likes to spend time with his guests and talk them through the dishes. Besides cooking, Roberto Carturan has another talent: he is a trained singer – on Friday evenings there's the "musical culinary soirée": a five-course menu with a bout of singing as the finale! One practical tip: Parking is available in the Opern Passagen shopping centre located behind the restaurant. You might also take the opportunity to see the original 4711 store with its famous carillon." - Michelin Inspector

We had an amazing experience at- the food was outstanding, with a sophisticated menu that balanced creativity and flavor perfectly. The ambience was chic yet welcoming, and the desserts were a highlight, truly exceptional. The friendly staff, especially Suzanne, made the evening even more enjoyable, offering attentive service that added a personal touch. Definitely a place worth visiting for an unforgettable dining experience

Food here was exceptional, good quality and delicious. The service was superb, prompt reply to email requesting reservation which was great, welcomed instantly and hung my coat up which is kind of rare but a lovely touch. The waitress (and the team) was also very informative and helpful and made me feel very welcome. Thank you for a brilliant evening dinner.

Friday dinner with the soirée. The food was tasty, and the servers and the sommelier were friendly and helpful. It is also nice to see the chef-owner personally greeting the guests, not to mention his talent in singing as well. We emailed a personal request in advance, and they, thankfully, handled it even on a short notice.

Stuck up and judging people by whether local or not despite being able to afford a meal. I thought those days are over in the modern world. Weird why top level restaurants in the world give tables but this one being empty says they’re fully booked even around 4pm when it’s empty and refuse a table!

Rude personnel at the door. Stated that the kitchen was closed at 8:00pm. When restaurant is open until 11:pm. Could just explain attire requirements instead of lying or being racist.

Unique concept as an italian fine dine. Menu is not written/readable, it’s what they have as specials on that day. Pasta for example is not a main dish. Nice experience unlike the traditional italian restaurants style.

Excellent Italian cuisine. Come join the Friday soirée if possible because the chef will indulge you with beautiful operatic singing accompanied by an excellent pianist. The five-course dinner menu is expensive (€120) but the quality and service are top-notch.

"Il mio favorito"!!! For me the best restaurant in Cologne. Every course is a real taste. The service and the kindness are impeccable. I wish I could visit more often. Grazie!

Yelp
Average food, high prices and moody servers. We travel a lot with our kids and they are not strangers to Michelin star dining. The staff always comes by and interacts with the kids and does their best to accommodate. This time to my surprise, the staff commented when my 9 year old asked for ketchup. I guess this is too fancy for such requests... The prawns appetizer was band, the atmosphere was stiff yet loud and the main dish (branzino) lacked flavor for an Italian restaurant. The wine list was indeed well equipped. My highlight was the desert, but not worth the hefty price tag at the end. Our family will not be coming back and we will not recommended it unless you wanna spend $$$$ for an average meal.

Yelp
I was invited to dinner here by a customer and being a Monday night choices for gourmet restaurants in the Köln area were limited so we ended up here. To be honest I have no idea why this place has a Michelin star. Perhaps it's because the Italian waiter only speaks the daily menu and there is no written one or perhaps, it's posh table cloth ? Anyhow the star of the evening, the food, was only ok. I must admit it was slightly disappointing. I had fish as my main and I chose a branzino which at a good Italian restaurant should be perfect. It was pretty average and lacked any kind of flavour. To be honest I can't remember what I had for starter that's how memorable it was. Rarely happens to me but in this case, it did. Dessert was also average. Wine menu here is good with some nice choices with a Michelin price. There was 7 of us at dinner and I think most of them were only slightly impressed with the meal, I was not alone ;-) I don't think I would spend my money here again. There is plenty of good choices in Köln for fine dining.

Yelp
We found Alfredo to be very overpriced for the quality of the food. It's good for a mid-level restaurant but is not at a gourmet level. We had two different fish dishes which were quite average, a squid/octopus/etc. appetizer that was below average, and a pasta appetizer that was the best of all the dishes but still just above average. It had some great reviews but we feel, based on our experience, that it's overrated. And again, it was very, very expensive for the level of what we ate. Great vibe and very attentive staff, but I feel that for a so-called gourmet restaurant they need to up their food game by a significant amount. It would be fine for a much lower price point.

Yelp
Based upon an attempt for weekday lunch. I would have liked to review this restaurant, but unfortunately, my appearance was not sufficient to be seated on Monday at 1415, with 6 seats occupied in the restaurant, 45 minutes before seating ended for lunch service. This surprised me, because the first question I asked the server who greeted me was: "I don't have a reservation.  Is a jacket required to be seated for lunch?" - because I was not wearing a suit jacket.  The server informed me that a jacket would not be required and began to lead me to a table, but was called over by a man wearing the traditional white double breasted chef jacket, standing in the back of the main dining room.  I assume he was the chef, because I would never allow any of my subordinates to stand around during dinner prep time in full view of the public completely unoccupied. When the server returned, unfortunately, I was unable to be seated.  I understand.  This and every private restaurant in the world has the absolute right to refuse service to anyone at anytime for any reason.  The chef wouldn't want me to be seen enjoying the food if the men and women from Gault Millau or Michelin stopped for an inspection - I'm sure they notice those things. In all fairness, the server offered to reccomend other options for lunch before I left. Yesterday, while wearing an almost similar outfit, L'escalier, over at Brüsseler Str. 11, was kind enough to seat me for lunch, although I had arrived with only 30 minutes remaining in service.  They have a yelp page. Perhaps Alfredo can resolve this problem in the future by posting at the restaurant and in advertising: reservations required, jacket required. So, for italian food, I had a wonderful meal six days ago at Il Pagliaccio at in Rome at 129 Via dei Banchi Vecchi.  There is a Yelp page.  And four days ago I truly enjoyed the complete experience at Ora d'Aria in Florence at 11R Via dei Georgofili.  They also have a Yelp page, which I believe does not do them enough justice. Perhaps the best Italian food is still in Italy. Enjoy (try)! Visited on 25 September 2017 at 1415.

Yelp
My wife commented that this was a, "dinner we will never forget." I agree. Our evening was an experience, not a dinner. This was a many course dinner and each course, and each part of each course, added something wonderful, different and complimentary. Truly, the food was exceptional. The service was exceptional. And the atmosphere? We enjoyed a truly gifted piano accompaniment with our dinner and toward the end of the evening, Chef Roberto joined (I won't say more to ruin the surprise). I understand this is something that may happen on Fridays. Plan on spending a long time to enjoy your evening and perhaps a lifetime to remember it. We will.
