Cavallino

"Three talented young entrepreneurs who are passionate about good food have taken over this historic restaurant and have given it a new lease of life. The cuisine is contemporary and imaginative, with a firm focus on the region. Local cuisine is also to the fore in the simpler and more informal Trattoria da Ciccio." - Michelin Inspector

Was driving my Beemer bike all day - 750 km from France - by accident found this great and VERY unsual (in the good way) historic hotel. The rooms are spacious, furnished with beautiful original 800' Italian pieces. The rooms are very confortable, no noise, great bed and pillows. Bathroom well equipped. All this for a very reasonable 60 Euros for a double at single use. Breakfast ok, but not exciting. parking within the premises. Very nice and friendly staff. Another great suprise was the restaurant: all local produce, served and cooked to perfection. great cheese selection along with a very well reasoned wine list. Enjoy.

This hotel is located near the train station. I stayed just one night on a business trip (24 april, room 5, 85 euros in total). The hotel, in my opinion has great potential but at present is underperforming. I checked in at 1.30pm, however, my room was not ready (despite the fact that check-out is at 10.30am) but I was allowed to leave my bag. There is no lift to the rooms . The furniture is great but it is not enhanced as it should. The room was big but had a shabby feeling to it although it was very clean. The window gave on the main street and the passing of cars could disturb if you have a light sleep. The bathroom also very clean and large but had the feeling of a ran down place. In addition the shower does not close properly and the water floods the floor. Breakfast was ok. Generally speaking the staff is pleasant but what is missing is that little bit of friendliness which could make this place unique. Wifi was free and worked well. Overall is a decent accommodation but next time I will look for something else.

Stayed one night on our journey down to Liguria. Interesting old building in a very pleasant Italian town. Bedroom was large and comfortable although rather dark as no real window. En-suite was large with a great shower. Breakfast was fine with the usual choice of cereal, eggs, bread, yoghurt , cheese, ham and fruit. Breakfast room had original decor and some quirky features. Young girl serving us was very helpful and friendly. Would stay again if ever in the area.

Booked through the tourist information office when I rode into town in mid-afternoon. Il Cavallino is on the edge of the old town not far from the train station. It is a very old building with modern refurbishments. I was in room one (with two single beds, tv, fridge and air con). It was clean and comfortable. The bed was quite firm – to the point some might find uncomfortable. The shower was fantastic and the bathroom large and well appointed. Later, however, I noticed the distinct pong of sewerage – like I said it’s an old building. The staff I dealt with were friendly and had limited but useful English. Breakfast was good and included the usual things (bread, cake, cheese, meat, boiled eggs).

A pleasant 3 star hotel with period features and plenty of character. It is a popular restaurant and hotel. It is located in Tortona which is halfway between Milan and Genoa.||||They have 13 bedrooms. I stayed in room no.2 which was very spacious with high ceilings and a large bathroom with modern fixtures and fittings. The Room itself has old style furniture but very clean and tidy.||||Whilst I have stayed in better hotels in the past, this one defiantly wins on the account of it service and helpfulness to hotel guests. Also one member of staff speaks a fluent English which is rare in these parts of Italy.||||Downside is the small TV set in the bedroom with just one channel to view being the BBC. The channel was fuzzy so did not make easy watching. ||||Free wifi and free parking. You will enjoy your stay here.

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of August. The hotel appears to be in two parts one recently refurbished to a good standard the other rather old fashioned or maybe better described as traditional. Having said that the rooms in the old part are of a good size. We had a king size bed plus a single and a cot (neither of which we needed) the bathroom was large and well appointed apart from the shower door which did not close and the supply of hot water was rather erratic! We had a bit of trouble checking in despite having written confirmation the reception insisting we had booked for two nights when we had clearly booked for three, had we not had an Italian speaker with us I'm not sure what the outcome would have been. Breakfast was a pretty basic affair, simple but adequate. The hotel is well located for the railway station and not far off the motorway.

Even as I stayed there just for one night, my experience let me do the rating "poor". The room for itself is small with a single bed. The mattress is truly strong with less comfort. There is no bedside locker, just a very small fridge on the left and a chair on the right side. I had to display the fridge, 'cause it was so noisy that you cannot sleep. Additional the room has not table to place my notebook, therefore if you like to work a little bit, which is usual on a business trip, you have to sit on the bed and held it on your knees. WiFi was working, but slow as well. And last but not least, you cannot keep the windows open, because there is too much traffic during the whole night.||My conclusion is: even as the hotel is close to the center and the restaurant has good food, you should search a different one, if you like to do some work and if you need a quiet room.

The location is perfect, staff is friendly and the room was fine with air-conditioning and a big bright bathroom. The beds were a bit hard/stiff, but we slept well anyway. As a student, I was surprised that there were no hostels in Tortona, and since AirBnB is expensive here, our stay at Il Cavallino was fairly priced at around 80 euro for a twin bed room a single night.
