16 Best Restaurants in Sicily for Mount Etna Sunsets, Local Wine, and Next-Level Street Food | Condé Nast Traveler

"In the upper reaches of Noto’s historic center, this restaurant is widely regarded as the town’s finest, a modern spin on tradition framed by honey-colored Baroque streets and a film-set atmosphere. The dining room, quietly elegant with white tablecloths, attracts a polished crowd who first take in whimsical appetizers balanced on ceramic Moors’ heads before settling into Marco Baglieri’s generous (for Michelin standards) portions. His unwavering commitment to Sicilian produce and to simply eating well keeps any frothy, lab-style showmanship at bay; instead, robust but elevated dishes like eggplant arancino with Ragusano fondue, tuna steak with a pistachio and sesame crust served alongside caponata, and sea urchin spaghetti arrive flawlessly cooked and free of unnecessary embellishment. Sommeliers steer diners toward native wine labels from an extensive list to complement the seafood, and many people leave only after polishing off at least one ricotta-stuffed cannolo." - Rosalyn Wikeley

"In the historic upper section, close to the namesake church, lies one of the most compelling culinary offerings. Within rooms exuding a modern and essential vibe, blanketed in dusky evening lighting, Marco Baglieri’s excellent cuisine becomes sophisticated and almost baroque, paying homage to the urban style of one of Sicily's most enchanting cities. Both the artichoke cooked two ways on brioche with anchovy sauce and the cod with leek foam and cuttlefish ink, embellished with black truffle and basil oil—sampled on our last visit—were exceptional. The scope also extends to meat and vegetarian dishes. The exterior proudly displays a glass-walled cellar showcasing the breadth and order of its selection." - Michelin Inspector

We were a group of four and had the six course fish tasting menu. We appreciated that they offered to mix and pick dish/es from the vegetarian or meat menu. We got advice from the very competent Sommelière for a bottle of white wine from Noto dubbed “La bomba”. Three of us added a glass of red wine ( dubbed “the king”)with the lamb dish they picked. We loved the wines and appreciated the great selection of local wines offered. The food was very refined and it was interesting that between the four of us we picked different favourites. For me the tomato water that was served with a fake olive was the best opening of menu experience in a long time. An explosion of olive taste which then harmonised with the tomato water. Amazing! All dishes were refined and conveyed the Sicilian experience perfectly. Presentation was artful. Service very attentive. We loved that the head waiter asked us about favourite dishes at the end of the meal as it allowed us to revisit the experience. It’s a clear recommendation. Also, if you visit Noto, we strongly recommend to stay at Sikelia Suites which is directly opposite Ristorante Crocifisso. It was such a bonus to just cross the street from one perfect place to another

Food, wine, overall experience was excellent. We had the 8 course chefs selection which is a great mix of land, sea and vegetarian. However, it was overpriced. The wine pairing should be less for what you get - 1/3 glass of wine for 14 euro per glass. It’s hard to swallow when we had an amazing bottle of wine for 30 total the night before.

My wife is from Sicily so we know local cuisine. We were excited to see what a Michelin restaurant in Sicily would be - is it really better than Nonna’s? We went on a Sunday evening and it was full. I had the 6 course meat menu and my wife had fish. It lived up to its one star. Not much theatre, with a more classical approach but beautiful food with unquestionably Sicilian flavours. We thought the meat menu was stronger with veal sweetbreads, a mushroom cappuccino, and braised onion tortello and rabbit ragu. I did think her main, the grouper with pepper crust, was delicious. For €135 pp with a bottle of Sicilian wine, it’s one of the better value Michelin experiences. Would love to see a little more bravery with presentation to match the boldness of taste - but that could be just me. And so if I could, I would have given it 4.75 stars. Would recommend and go again. Don’t tell Nonna?

Given that this is a Michelin star restaurant, I expected the food to be tastier. It is ok if your food standards are not so high or if you are a first time traveller in Italy, however in my case, I missed “il sapore della cucina italiana”. The dishes did not have taste at all. The service was not very good, lack of attention. We found the chef at the entrance but he even did not pass through the tables.. I am sorry.. maybe I went with a very high expectative.. I would not recommend it.

Google
In short: recommended, even though the service is really bad. Food is pretty amazing and at times also fun. So that's already a lot. Wines are quite boring but drinkable. Sadly though the service was extremely poor. Had to move the table myself to sit, English was practically impossibile to understand, the service pace was far too fast, up to the point we had to ask them to slow down. And when they came to collect the payment, the lady didn't even ask how the meal was.

This restaurant does not deserve a michelin star. Service very poor. Wine glass and water were ignored. Food disappointing. They were out of the raw shrimp w panelle burger but served it anyway. I know it's Sicilia, but I can get panelle anywhere. Egg and truffles are good, but I can make it at home. The elevation of the food was poorly executed. The onion tortellini was not good. I've eaten at many michelin Star places. Avoid this one.

Amazing!! Simply amazing! If you love gourmet food you have to go there is you are in Noto. Spectacular food and amazing service! Would go again! We had the most amazing dessert. What is great about the place is that you can chose between a vegetarian, fish or meat menu.

Ambience: Good decor and appropriate music. 4/5 Food: The amuse bouche was amazing, but the rest left a little to be desired. The bread was not great. Some of the dishes were over seasoned and some were under seasoned. The same could be said about the textures (the dessert had too much crunch texture while some of the fish dish needed more). The flavors are not revolutionary with the exception of the amuse bouche and the gaspacho dish. I will say that the cook of everything was good. 3/5 Service: Very nice staff! 4.5/5 Overall, maybe a 3.8-4/5 score. I wished the rest of the tasting menu was as good as the amuse bouche.

Yelp
This was our most expensive meal in Italy by a long shot. There wasn't a dish that I enjoyed; it was all just ok. It wasn't bad, although I certainly wouldn't recommend it. We saw the chef at Caffè Sicilia multiple times just smoking cigars and chilling... nothing wrong with that, but I just got the impression the restaurant was all about the hype and image than the culinary experience it was providing. One particular waiter (young guy) had awful body odor, which was very unpleasant when receiving dinner. There is a chance my palate for Sicilian cuisine was not sophisticated enough to enjoy the creativity.

Yelp
This hyped restaurant sees itself as cooler than cool with snobby waiters to boot! Although listed in the Michelin guide, we found the food to be only OK in quality and certainly priced high for the small portions. Most importantly, we found the interior decor very stiff and austere and we did not feel comfortable because of the judgemental disapproval from the waiters when 1) asked for a fork for an appetizer that had fallen apart; and 2) when asked to divide a pasta dish. It was almost like a scene out of a Saturday Night Live skit on snobbish restaurants. . We wished we had eaten elsewhere .
