Yelp
We dined at this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend who was born in Salerno. He is accustomed to find dining and we usually find his recommendations very helpful. Unfortunately, we encountered a waiter who had no time to explain a complicated menu with several pre fixe tasting options that were almost exclusively seafood based and he was too busy to explain the a la carte menu selections that were classic for this restaurant in order for us to compose a pleasing a la carte experience. The food was acceptable but not spectacular. He refused to let us share several appetizers family style , yet then pressured us to share a selection of desserts which we initially declined, as we were tired from traveling from Paris the same day . To top it off , when we paid the bill , both of the women used their credit cards to split the bill. The menus had been presented to the husbands with the prices. The women's menus did not have prices. Apparently only the men are expected to pay in Sicily. We were then subjected to repeated comments regarding the fact that only the men pay in Sicily. He continued to elaborate that he would never let his wife pay for anything , not for gelato, not for dinner, not for anything. It was amazing how one simpleton could insult four people in one fell swoop . The men were insulted for not taking care of their wives and the wives were insulted for not having men who took care of them. $400 later we had bern schooled in a socioeconomic bias which left a bitter taste in our mouth's with what should have been a lovely first evening dining experience in Sicily.
