Don Camillo

"Miteco, Artemide, Archestrato, and La Nostra Storia are the names of the menus at this restaurant, all of which showcase the ambitious Sicilian cuisine created by chef Guarneri, a lover of beauty and fine wine. The dining room is traditional in style, with tufa walls dating from the 15C, period wood furnishings and wrought-iron chandeliers. The delicious cuisine is expertly prepared, while the service is attentive and professional." - Michelin Inspector

We had a really nice dinner at Don Camillo. The service was excellent (nothing less to expect from a Michelin restaurant) and the food was pretty good. We ordered from the menu because we weren't very hungry and all the suggested options by the waiter were quite on point. It's definitely a good restaurant to have a nice dinner!

We came because of Don Camillo’s reputation and we will come back because it’s all true!! This is one of a very few places that makes a fantastic dirty martini! For dinner we had beef cheek, beef ravioli, beef sirloin, black shrimp, and delicious chocolate and pistachio cream desserts. Every dish was flavoured perfectly! Suggest a visit and bring your appetite with you 😋

What a place, what incredible wine, what a service. We brought our 6 month old baby, which is bold for a restaurant of this quality, but the staff was more than happy to welcome us. We had an amazing experience. The food is to die for - money well spent

Very easy to make a reservation online. The place has a very comprehensive international wine list. You have to choose a matching tasting menu, probably if you order "a la carte" things are different. We chose the Artemide menu, matching wines glass are supplementary 70-80 euro per pax. Everything was excellent, as you would expect, The chef greets his guests as a plus. Clean, well maintained, tasteful place. I recommend for a nice lunch and/or dinner with close friends and loved one(s), but I am sure they can accomodate larger groups.

Was invited to this restaurant for dinner during the family vacation in Ortigia and I was blown away by it! Knowing the price tag, I had high expectations coming in and Don Camillo delivered. We took the fixed menu (the menu made of classic dishes of this restaurant). Each dish had its unique characteristics, a perfect balance between tastes, texture and presentation. The one that impressed me the most was the “langoustine sushi” (not the actual name of the dish): it came in a form of sushi but filled with langoustine meats wrapped around black inked pasta. The food was excellent overall and will leave wondering why it is not a Michelin starred restaurant. I’d highly recommend this restaurant if you would like to indulge yourself in a culinary adventure while visiting Ortigia!

Everything was pretty tasty, except the white fish in seaweed mosaic. Unless you love seaweed that much I highly urge to slip that one

This restaurant was a nice surprise. We made a reservation on the day and were not disappointed! The atmosphere was so pleasant and the food was delicious. We went for the historic tasting menu, we were sad not to be able to do the wine pairing with it as we were traveling that day but will definitely come for it next time. The service was friendly and helpful and even though they didn’t offer orange wine by the glass on the menu they did provide. Grazie! The two dishes that were the highlight for us were the prawn and almond cream and the prawn sea urchin rolls! The only disappointment was the tuna as we were expecting more compared to the rest of the food. Also a minor thing that affected us a little bit was the fact that at the end they didn’t ask how our experience was. I know that Italians are proud and confident in their food but some feedback is always helpful to keep things top notch :)

Yelp
Really really disappointing. After trying to make a reservation online and was unable to (said booked solid) I was able to get a reservation at 8 pm for two people by contacting the restaurant directly. As hard as it was to get a reservation the place was dead. My traveling buddy is vegetarian and sober so we decided to do a la crate and not order a whole bottle of wine (I did solo drinks). I could tell the waiter was annoyed with this to start. Since there was not many vegetarian options my friend ordered a pasta to which the waiter rolled his eyes at- literally. I started with a raw shrimp app. The menu mentioned it was flashed frozen to kill any germs. They three types of shrimps were so slimy I had a hard time getting it down- and I am someone who loves oysters, beef tartare, raw bar etc. I think has the pork and mushroom entree. The mushrooms were cold. When I said something I was told they were supposed to be that way which made no sense. The pork itself was good. My friends pasta had no taste and seemed like some tomato paste was just smeared on it. Other tables got olive oil, salt, pepper and balsamic for their bread- we did not. Not once during our entree did our waiter come over to check on us. I had to tell them about ice cold mushrooms after the fact. The service was pretentious and rude. I have been to very high end restaurants all over the world and this place should not even be Michelin recommend. Do not waste your money on shit service and just ok food. Bad experience I did not pay almost $200 USD to be treated like garbage.

Yelp
The room is lovely. The food waiter was very pleasant but the service felt hurried as we raced through the first several courses. The Sommelier was very brusque and not interested in any conversation about the wine. The food had its moments where we appreciated the various sensory complexities but some of the courses were quite bland (the rabbit and the lamb). What was very disturbing was being completely abandoned at the table after dessert was cleared and having to wait more than 30 minutes before having to ASK for the cheque. Even the waitstaff had changed into their street clothes and were walking in front of us seemingly wondering why were were sitting there with no food, drink or cheque. After another 10 minutes we had to get up and go to the counter like we were in a cafeteria. Alas, such seems to still be the fate of two women dining "alone" (read: without men) and getting poor service. Not recommended...would never go again.

Yelp
Impeccable service. Every dish was outstanding. The soms were on point with the wine recommendations as we're those given by the regular waiters. Prices are the same as the lesser surrounding touring geared restaurants so treat yourself to a finer dining experience and you'll thank me for it. We shared all our dishes and as you an see, they split them for us which was a nice touch not to mention that the portions seemed normal size and not half sized!

Yelp
Fantastic. Wandered in after the first two recommended restaurants were booked up for the evening. Had a group of six and we were seated immediately. We were given menus in English. The service was very friendly and very responsive. I had the squid ink spaghetti and tuna with sautéed onions. Both were absolutely amazing. The pasta was just perfect and I always love the squid ink look. It was wonderfully salty and savory. I tasted calamari and I believe linguine with pistachio, which were both also wonderful. Good wine selection. The plates are full servings. I didn't finish any of it. If you want to try multiple things, definitely share. I expected smaller servings.

Yelp
We dined at this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend who was born in Salerno. He is accustomed to find dining and we usually find his recommendations very helpful. Unfortunately, we encountered a waiter who had no time to explain a complicated menu with several pre fixe tasting options that were almost exclusively seafood based and he was too busy to explain the a la carte menu selections that were classic for this restaurant in order for us to compose a pleasing a la carte experience. The food was acceptable but not spectacular. He refused to let us share several appetizers family style , yet then pressured us to share a selection of desserts which we initially declined, as we were tired from traveling from Paris the same day . To top it off , when we paid the bill , both of the women used their credit cards to split the bill. The menus had been presented to the husbands with the prices. The women's menus did not have prices. Apparently only the men are expected to pay in Sicily. We were then subjected to repeated comments regarding the fact that only the men pay in Sicily. He continued to elaborate that he would never let his wife pay for anything , not for gelato, not for dinner, not for anything. It was amazing how one simpleton could insult four people in one fell swoop . The men were insulted for not taking care of their wives and the wives were insulted for not having men who took care of them. $400 later we had bern schooled in a socioeconomic bias which left a bitter taste in our mouth's with what should have been a lovely first evening dining experience in Sicily.
