"Situated alongside the road that leads to the picturesque historic centre, this restaurant with simply furnished, informal dining rooms serves excellent cuisine full of intense, delicious flavours. The emphasis here is on Tuscan traditions, with a particular focus on rustic dishes and ingredients such as offal, Cinta Senese pork and fresh pastas. An address to return to time and time again." - Michelin Inspector

"Locanda di Fonte is your classic Italian Trattoria: The decor is spartan, yet very attractive, with simple stone walls and minimal furniture and accents. There are a handful of traditional Italian artworks on the wall and a blackboard revealing the menu and its specials, too. In keeping with Italy's obsession with centuries-old traditions and recipes, this spot offers genuine cuisine made from organic products, all sourced according to the "zero kilometer" approach of locavorism. Beyond that, expect typical boisterous Italian service." - Bridget Arsenault

Google
Fonte alla Vena didn’t quite live up to expectations. The food was just okay — the tartare was bland, and the pork ribs were so charred they tasted grainy. One of our sides never arrived, and the bread was stale. Service was fine, but overall the experience felt underwhelming. There are definitely better options nearby.

Best steak I’ve had in Tuscany—better than the one at Trattoria ZaZa in Florence. The pasta wasn’t particularly memorable, but I’d definitely recommend this place for their Fiorentina steak.

I had higher expectations for Fonte Alla Vena, especially for their Pasta because the one i had wasn’t “great”, but well perhaps shouldn’t have orders the truffle classic but their specialty ones. Their other dishes were supremely good, especially their carpaccio WOW!! Sadly we were full to try desserts. I can also say they helped us not to only choose great wines, but they sent us to one smaller winery close by that was remarkable.

Ristorante Fonte Alla Vena is located on the outskirts of San Quirico d'Orcia and is a must stop for anyone visiting the Tuscan countryside (especially for those already staying in San Quirico d'Orcia!). They offer very traditional and delicious Tuscan dishes that are super affordable for Tuscany being such a touristy region. It has received the Michelin Bib Gormand for many consecutive years since 2019! Items tried: Pappa al pomodoro (traditional Tuscan dish that's made by simmering bread with a tomato-based sauce until the bread is completely soft and custardy!) Duck breast, small pear and fermented cabbage (Petto di anatra, pera picciola e verza fermentata) Baked pears with saffron and citrus cream (Pere cotte caramellate allo zafferano con panna di agrumi ) Make reservations ahead of time as the restaurant is super popular to no surprise! They also had the coolest glass wine decanter to pour exactly one glass of wine! They sell it if you're interested in purchasing on your way out!

Great service and atmosphere. Food was above average for sure. Rissoto was good, beef tartare was really good, and pork ribs with honey sauce was good. Overall we would recommend this place realizing it is two blocks outside the far end of the city center.

Beautiful Setting, But a Disappointing Experience Fonte Alla Vena has the look of a refined, must-visit restaurant — a picturesque setting, strong reviews, and a limited nightly seating window that suggests care and exclusivity. But what we got was a meal that, while technically competent, felt unfinished and mishandled. Poor service follow-through and a lack of attention to detail left us walking away more frustrated than satisfied. Food: • Starters: The pork belly with leek and potato terrine had a soft, sweet contrast, but the overall dish was overly fatty and lacked any acidity or sharpness to balance it. The beef tartare with truffle was hand-cut and featured fresh truffle, but it was served with nothing — not even toast — just stale, dry table bread. A dish that should have been rich and punchy ended up feeling flat and underthought. • Mains: The peposo (Tuscan red wine–braised beef) was tender and well-braised in a deep, flavorful sauce. The pork ribs were also well-cooked and nicely marinated — but that was it. No garnish, no sides, no sauce, no balance. Both dishes felt incomplete on their own. • We had ordered a spinach side to go with the mains — clearly essential to round out such heavy plates — but it never arrived. When we asked mid-meal, we were told it was coming. It didn’t. By the time we finished eating, we had to cancel the order. That was the first time anyone acknowledged the issue. Only after we paid did another staff member explain that it had been given to another table, who simply ate it. There was no follow-up, no offer to make it right — just a quiet mention on the way out. Service: • Service started off well while the restaurant was empty. But once other tables were seated, it became harder to get any attention, and it felt like we were seen as an inconvenience for following up on missing items. • One staff member, clearly in a rush, told us to “please wait” when we tried to speak with her — which is fine in the moment, but it reflected a larger tone shift. There was no real ownership of the mistake, no effort to fix the situation while it still mattered. • For a restaurant operating at this level, we expected better communication, faster response, and at least some proactive service recovery. Drinks: • Limited to wine, beer, and water. • Both house beers were served in white wine glasses — not a problem. The Blanche was light and pleasant. The Gose, however, was nearly flat and sharply sour, bordering on vinegary — not refreshing and not enjoyable. Overall: This meal wasn’t terrible — but it absolutely wasn’t worth the praise. The food was fine but lacked balance. The missing side was never handled properly. And the service tone shifted from warm to indifferent as the restaurant filled up. For a place that’s clearly aiming to be something special, the experience felt careless and unpolished. We left disappointed — and we wouldn’t return.

Great everything. The carbonara pasta was amazing. The T-bone Fiorentina really nice, the only 'mistake' is too bring the whole piece on a hot stone that cooks too much the meat.. so my recommendation is to move apart the meet from the hot stone and go piece by piece cooking. Service was tremendously warming and nice. Good wine and desert as well. I will definitely come back every time.

We went to have lunch in this cozy restaurant after reading many good reviews and we were stunned! The lady who served us was extremely nice and helpful and the food was amaaaazing. We tried two of the dishes of the day and two main courses and we loved every bite.

Yelp
This place was a 10/10 across the board. We came back twice because the food was so good and staff were amazing. They've had Michelin stars in the past but not this year but it was still amazing quality food. The first night I had the duck and I wanted more of it along with the pears and slaw. Tagliatelle also delicious and we came back to try the Florentine steak. Couldn't really order a different temp bc that's how they eat it so I just went with it. Some pieces cook more bc of the hot skillet. Carbonara wasn't on the menu but we decided to ask the Chef and he made it for us. Also absolutely perfect and well made. The inside was very nice and classic Italian decor, romantic and perfect for a date night.

Yelp
Good food. Good view. Service remarkable quick. Menu changed daily with various specials. Overall a nice lunch stop. Had 2 types of pasta - good food as passing by.

Yelp
Fantastic lunch found on Yelp. Every course better than the last and super Orcia wine. Definitely go!

Yelp
We found this lovely restaurant for lunch while we were driving around Tuscany for winery tours. We ordered 2 specials that they had that day (Tuscan Bean Soup, and pork cheek pasta), pasta with meat sauce, steak (not Florentine steak) medium rare, a side of spinach, 1/2 liter of house wine, and expresso. Steak was cooked perfectly and they even gave you different types of salt (red wine, hot pepper, and basil) for seasoning, but we didn't need to put any on because the steak was perfectly cooked, and everything was delicious! The service was just as amazing! Our waitress was very nice, friendly, attentive, and spoke English very well. We tried to speak Italian as much as we could however her English was way better than our Italian so we ended up communicating in English.
