Hydra

"Situated in the picturesque historic centre of Salerno, this is one of the city’s best restaurants. The dining room here is almost minimalist in style, yet thanks to the soft lighting and beautiful background music it has a pleasing atmosphere; in fine weather, tables are set out in a charming inner courtyard. The cuisine is Mediterranean and contemporary, with a selection of light and creative meat, fish and vegetable dishes featuring on the menu." - Michelin Inspector

Booked this Michelin restaurant ton celebrate a festival, to be fair the food is okay. The red prawn tartare and beef fillet are good, others are okay. The dining experience is not pleasant. When I was ordering the dishes, the waiter asked if we want to share( after I ordered 3dishes), I asked if we can order separate dishes for the 3-course tasting menu, the waiter said of course. But guess what, each dish was calculated as a La cart price. When I raised the check problem, the restaurant told me that if we ordered 3-course set menu, we can’t decide which dishes we want to have. This is rare. But anyways, it’s not the money issue, it’s just the restaurant can do better in explaining.

WOW. What an incredible dinner. We have been to many restaurants mentioned by Michelin throughout the US and Europe, and we rarely find that it lives up to the hype. However, Hydra definitely lived up to the hype and exceeded it! We had an unforgettable dinner. We had one of the best wines we’ve ever tasted along with a three course menu. Lorenzo was extremely kind, took great care of us, and shared his great opinions on the food. We had an outstanding experience. If you find yourself in Salerno and want an unforgettable experience, make a reservation at Ristorante Hydra!

An unforgettable dining experience at Hydra! We had the 5-course tasting menu and were truly impressed by every dish. Each course was creative, beautifully plated, and full of bold, refined flavors. You can tell the chef puts real thought and passion into every detail. The service was attentive and warm, adding to the relaxed, elegant atmosphere. One of the culinary highlights of our trip to Salerno — highly recommended for food lovers!

We went there to eat because when we are on holiday we are real foodies. So after reading the reviews and seeing the photos we made a reservation. First look when we came inside: WOW beautiful place! The food was not bad, but after the food, I wanted to order a cappuccino. I KNOW - in Italy this is not common, but we are from belgium and here this is very normal. And it’s the customer who pays your bills, right? After I ordered, the waiter went to the table next to us to tell them I’ve ordered a capp and they started to laugh very loud, we could hear them talking and laughing about us for the next 15min. I work in a restaurant in Belgium with a lot of tourists, and yes sometimes they might order something I find strange, but I would néver make fun of them while they can hear it. I felt very bad after this and just wanted to go. Again, I understand in Italy people never order this, but to make fun of us like that while we were sitting right there, was very mean and arrogant. This ruined the whole experience for us.

Amazing family experience here in this Micheline restaurant! We thought the small coastal town of Salerno did not have these types of restaurants. We found Hydra by accident just getting lost in the alleyways of Salerno. Food was very good, very well presented and tasted great! The ambiance was very nice except for the noisy residential units right next to the dining area. Must try when looking for high end cuisine in Salerno!

5 of us had an amazing dinner at Hydra this December. Tortello alla genovese with truffles is to die for. Food was absolutely exquisite and the service even better. Their wine list is one of the best. Saperavi from Georgia was our favorite choice. I can't wait to go back!!!

Very classy and cozy place in the very center of the old town. The garden is a hidden gem far from the chaotic nightlife. The service was great and attentive, full of care. The food is fantastic and the wine list terrific! A monster list with more than 100 (I guess) natural wines from all Europe. Next to these, the great names of the Italian legendary wineries. The experience at the counter, drinking and chatting with the bartender gave us a plus to the whole time.

Yelp
We saw this place on a small side street close to the B&B we were staying at. Very slick/minimalist presentation on the inside, and nice garden area in back. Appeared popular with locals. Staff was attentive when we first arrived but got busy and possibly overwhelmed as the place filled up. All was still good, but we had to flag them for attention. We ordered an appetizer, with a pizza and pasta plate for out mains. Too much food for us, but we plowed through... The pizza was good but the dough is thicker than we like, and have gotten used to in the Naples area. Beer was cold. Good house red wine. We would go again and recommend it to others.

Yelp
Fantastic lunch at this Salerno gem, tucked away in the historic district. The modern aesthetic and flawlessly executed meal made for a needed respite after a long train trip to the South. We had the Branzino, the "gnocchi" and the cod, plus a simple insalata. All in our group were happy!
