"La Caravella’s history is intricately linked to that of gastronomic tourism on the Amalfi Coast, so much so that it’s impossible to mention all the famous personalities who have dined here and fallen in love with the Dipino family’s cuisine. The food is proudly inspired by local and family traditions, while at the same time constantly seeking to reinterpret these traditions and create new imaginative recipes. Examples include pears cooked in Aglianico wine served with raw shrimps and cow’s ricotta cheese, and raw fish and seafood options accompanied by a careful selection of seasonal vegetables. Two important features here are the focus on simple, traditional cooking techniques and the speed of preparation. The menu showcases the best of the area’s fresh fish, including pezzogna (a variety of sea bream), swordfish and tuna, supplemented when necessary by options from the nearby Cilento region. Other ingredients include tomatoes (which feature in almost half the dishes), Amalfi’s famous lemons (the classic lemon soufflé is highly recommended), basil and Agerola bread – you’ll want to order almost everything on the menu! The excellent wine list features reds, whites, sparkling, sweet, young and vintage wines, with legendary labels such as La Tâche listed alongside smaller, unknown, rare and organic wines. Whatever your preference, sommelier Tonino has that rare talent (also found at the Enoteca Pinchiorri) of finding just the right wine for you." - Michelin Inspector

Definitely not a Michelin Star kinda attitude nor experience! Rudeness at its absolute worst! Racist and utterly unreasonable! Our 10am ferry broke down, and we rushed to the restaurant as fast as we possibly could, thinking being just 10-15 minutes late would be understandable under such circumstances. My husband even offered to pay €200 extra as we were celebrating our parents’ 55th wedding anniversary — a day meant to be filled with joy, love and good memories... Instead, the chef came storming out, yelling in a fit of rage. We were shocked, frightened, and heartbroken. After being stuck on the ferry surrounded by fumes from the breakdown, we arrived feeling exhausted and overwhelmed, only to be greeted with hostility instead of compassion. What was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime celebration turned into a humiliating and distressing ordeal. Not to mention, they even forfeited our €730 deposit without a shred of empathy or understanding. Absolutely appalling experience — nothing close to what a Michelin restaurant should represent?

Dining at Caravella is not just a meal—it’s an experience. As the oldest Michelin-starred restaurant in Italy, it more than lives up to its legendary reputation. From the moment you step inside, you’re transported into a world where culinary mastery meets fine art. The dining room is adorned with artwork that rivals what you’d find in a museum, adding a cultural richness to the already extraordinary ambiance. Each course that arrived was a work of art in its own right—so exquisitely presented that I hesitated to take the first bite, not wanting to disturb the masterpiece in front of me. But once I did, the flavors delivered on every promise the visual beauty made. Early in the meal, we were served what I can only describe as the most delicious olive oil of our entire trip. The moment it touched my lips, it created an impeccable sensation—silky, vibrant, and layered with depth. It set the tone for a meal where even the simplest elements were elevated to the extraordinary. The service was nothing short of impeccable—refined, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Every course was delivered with precision and care, and the staff made the evening feel effortless and elegant. As someone who has dined at multiple Michelin two-star restaurants, I can say without hesitation that Caravella outperforms many of them—not only in the quality of the cuisine, but in the cohesive, immersive nature of the entire experience. Every detail, from the plating to the pacing, reflects a deep reverence for tradition, hospitality, and excellence. Caravella is a destination in itself—an unforgettable blend of Amalfi charm, culinary brilliance, and artistic grandeur. A true gem.

Watch this before you go please! This restaurant is a trick, a lie! Michelin guide please notice this. It’s about the reputation of Michelin guide. I expected this restaurant pretty much. It’s famous for its history and traditional Campanian cuisine and Michelin gave them one star for “High quality cooking” which is totally not real. I skipped to judge the service part. The only thing you need to know is that they didn’t smile at all until you pay for the meal and that’s the end of all experience. When we sit, they didn’t even introduce their menu for today. It was a 7 courses menu. 150 euro per person. Firstly, the bread was so dry. I only ate a few because it cannot trigger my appetite at all. I tried many bread in Europe, this was the lowest quality bread. The starter they called Sushi style but I didn’t see any sushi at all. It was just raw fish without any cooking technics. It was cultural misappropriation. I felt insulted by this dish. (We are Asian.) Then, few dishes were using the same plain croutons, bad chopped, no-cooked tomato dice. If this was how Michelin called “High quality cooking”. I would rather spend 10 euro buy a bread, tomato, olive oil from any supermarket and chop them roughly. And throw the rest of 140 euro into the sea of Amalfi. Almost all the dishes were plain but the scialatielli in their menu was too salty. They had bad taste on their own seasoning. In conclusion, La Carevella has bad service, bad cooking quality, and their 7 courses menu was plain without any sincerity. But the Campanian wine was distinctive I couldn’t deny it. But it definitely doesn’t deserve a Michelin one star. This is a shame I follow Michelin guide and end up a bad experience like this. Let’s see how many people will spend more than 100 euro to eat “this”.

The first thing to say about this place is that the service is exceptional. You are greeted at the door and from the moment you are shown to your table it already feels like an experience. We opted for the seasonal taster menu, which was the perfect amount of food for an evening dinner. The menu had a heavy emphasis on fresh, locally sourced produce of fish and vegetables. Each dish was nicely balanced and allowed the amazing quality of the produce to speak for itself. I also really enjoyed the decor, the artwork was unique and interesting, and the plates, cutlery, and wine glasses gave the place a feel of elegance but comfort. If you’re in Amalfi and are looking for an amazing experience combining excellent service and a varied taste of local cuisine and produce La Caravella is definitely worth visiting.

This is the worst experience I have ever had in seeking out michelin food experience. Today, my family and I took a 10am ferry from Naples to Amalfi just to lunch at La Caravella. The ferry took off and mid way, the engine stopped with smoke coming inside the ferry. All passengers had no choice but to suffer the diesel smoke inside and outside the ferry. This includes my 74 yo parents. To cut my story short, we finally got to Amalfi. I ran to La Cravella trying to explain the situation because they had explained via email they close at 2pm. The staff had already told me they close at 2pm and would not serve us. I offered to pay more on top of the EUR 720 that was already charged to my card. A kind staff showed me inside. For a moment, I was so happy. A kind face after a morning of diesel fumes, panic and delays. Because my 74 yo parents were looking forward to the meal. Then the most horrible experience I ever had turned up shouting at me. The chef came out scolding me. I tried to explain what had happened. His reply " THAT'S NOT MY PROBLEM!". I wonder if I was not of asian appearance would he have done that? In case you are wondering if I stayed back to dine there after being scolded. I didn't. I said to him "Keep the EUR 720 and your bad attitude." No kindness. No empathy. No customer service or even a speck of humanity. I walked towards Marina Grande. As I am typing this now, staff are smily. COld beer and great views.

Fine dining at its best. Great price for the quality experience. Don't miss it if you're in Amalfi.

The idea of this restaurant is supposed to be like dining in a museum - an art museum! To start this review, the food here is great and imaginative! The service is also attentive. You leave here feeling full to the brim. The one thing that deducts points from this overall experience may be the vibe and atmosphere of the restaurant. It is cold, awkward and uneasy to dine in a “museum”. The silence is deafening! Other than that, the food and presentation is delicious and beautiful which activates all senses. It is quite the expensive dining experience as well - we did the tasting menu for reference. There were not many tables ongoing as well likely due to the price point.

Google
This restaurant is rated Very Bad to Terrible. “Michelin Star” restaurant (food as shown in other reviews) but service and attitude needs major improvement, reconsider spending money at this restaurant. Recommendation: for a much better atmosphere, great views and outstanding service with still great food I found Marina Grande amazing, and the price was reasonable for Amalfi too. Marina Grande is also listed on Michelin Guide and it’s easy to see why, I think La Caravella will slowly fade into obscurity as the Michelin guide starts to adjust to changing views, this is unless La Caravella really change their ways.

Yelp
Best pasta I've ever had. Frankly, my wife likes going to Michelin star places and generally for me it's hit and miss. This place was well worth the cost/effort. The service was only surpassed by the food. There wasn't one dish I didn't love (and normally I make fun of the fu fu food). Fantastic Night.

Yelp
A gorgeous Michelin eatery- one of the first in southern Italy to earn a Michelin Star and its a might fine experience! The menu here is entirely dedicated to the region of Campagna and the gorgeous flavors from the sea and citrus groves. We have chef decide on the menu and it was one beautiful surprise after the other. The service did not skip a beat. As expected in a Michelin rated restaurant. Master sommelier selected our wine pairings and they were equally as outstanding. Dinner here is $300 a person and quite frankly worth it. Caravella is the spirit of Amalfi

Yelp
The service was top notch and the food was just as amazing. As always I love the appetizers best. The squid tasted so fresh and well made. I absolutely love the ravioli, it was the best ravioli I ever had in my life!

Yelp
One of a kind experience! One of the Michelin star restaurants, which you will pay the price for but it sure is worth the experience. Their wine list is on the top! The wine list is more like wine bible, I experienced decanting white wine. The restaurant has been passed through generations and the currant owner has kept a lot of old recipes, their eggplant desert is a must... when in Rome, right? Fried pizza??? Yes, this is how Italians used to make it originally and if you are special enough the owner will make it for you. Enjoy :)

Yelp
Came here for my birthday dinner while in Amalfi. One of a kind culinary experience! The chef himself attended to our table (we did the seven course menu) and told us stories of each dish and what it means to him - loved hearing true personal connections between the chef and the food. Food was exceptional! You must get the Lemon Soufflé for dessert. Overall experience was amazing and memorable. (Side note: I also have never seen a larger wine list at any other restaurant, ever)

Yelp
Lovely dining room, personal touches from the staff. Chef came and chatted tableside, which I always love. We had the fresh fish with lemon, the lemon risotto with shrimp (you do know Amalfi is renowned for its lemons, right?) and the ricotta calzonoti (?) to start- plus the modern bruschetta " amuse bouche"- whipped mozzarella and the freshest chopped tomatoes with fried bread. Pricey but lovely

Yelp
Definitely earns its Michelin star. A fantastic place with exceptional service, location, and food.
