Antico Ristorante Pagnanelli

"In business since 1882, yet constantly evolving, this restaurant boasts a superb location overlooking the lake. The menu features meat and fish dishes, enhanced by wild herbs. The extensive wine selection is presented on two wine lists. Don’t miss the famous wine cellars built into the rock, plus the small wine museum." - Michelin Inspector

On our last day in Rome, we decided to visit Castel Gandolfo for a half day trip. The restaurant is within 6 minutes walk from the train station with amazing view of the lake. We came on a weekday without reservation and was able to be seated on the balcony. The restaurant is elegant and food selection is great. We enjoyed our lunch and rested while taking the view. Highly recommended.

Pagnanelli offered an authentic taste of Italian cuisine with exceptional hospitality. The stunning view and perfect music created a memorable atmosphere. We enjoyed delicious seafood dishes full of flavor. A highlight was the tour of their wine cellars, which felt like exploring a wine museum. This unique experience truly made our visit special. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy great food, history, and remarkable hospitality!

We visited Rome for our 39th wedding anniversary and Pagnelli’s was highly recommended. The establishment is a generational owned restaurant since 1881. We placed ourselves in the hands of our waiter for his food preferences / recommendations and it was outstanding. The only thing better was the view overlooking Lago Albano. The service was perfect. I highly recommend you make reservations to try this place.

So disappointed... We came all the way from Rome to Castel Gandolfo just for this restaurant, based on the Google reviews. Big mistake. We were four people, and all four of us were completely disappointed from start to finish. From the appetizers to the main courses, everything was a disaster. We ordered octopus but were served squid — and of course, charged for the more expensive octopus. The beef dish tasted like it had been boiled in plain water — zero flavor, no seasoning, nothing. The fish was basic. The chicory was so bitter it was inedible. Not a single thing we ordered was enjoyable. We ended up paying more than €200 (included only two bottles of water and a glass of wine). The only nice thing about this place is the view of the lake — but that’s where the positives end. Everything else was a letdown. We all left incredibly disappointed. This place is a tourist trap, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. To make things even worse, after bringing the bill, one of the waitresses stood by our table and watched us like a hawk, as if we were criminals about to run off without paying. She counted the money not once, not twice, but three times. Totally disrespectful and unacceptable! Avoid this place at all costs. It’s a rip-off with bad food, high prices, and a deeply unpleasant atmosphere. Total scam.

Our guide suggested this restaurant for lunch. Wow! Totally impressed with the cuisine, service, and view. We ate on the terrace. First we had a tour of the wine cellar which is like nothing I’ve ever seen and includes an eclectic collection of wine related items. We did a wine pairing with our lunch and loved it. I had the scallops with pistachios, avocado and bacon. My other half had fettuccine with boneless rabbit and figs in a cream sauce. Out of this world! Matteo and his staff are top notch. Highly recommend!

We stumbled across this place and wow! Speechless. The food was sublime. The staff were excellent and to top it off a tour of their amazing wine cellar. What an absolute treat. I could not recommend this enough. The photo attached was the RED wine list only!

The place exceeded all estimations. Delicious food and super friendly personnel. Fantastic view on the lake. Small vine museum worth visiting. Top 10 place for me in Italy so far.
