Pagnanelli is truly a hidden gem. The journey there already sets the tone, and once you arrive, the view from the terrace is absolutely breathtaking. The restaurant itself feels timeless, with a remarkable wine cellar that instantly transports you to another era. The food is excellent, full of flavor and authenticity, and the wine selection is simply outstanding. It’s the kind of place that leaves a lasting impression, so much so that we make it a point to visit every time we bring new friends to Rome. An unforgettable experience in every sense.

Kind staff. Big portions. Amazing view. Our secondi came before our primi!! The beef stew was good and the octopus also but wasn't as tender as it could have been. My primo was so salty. The porcini seem to have been soaked in salt water. Either the chef isn't tasting his food or his palate is off. The ravioli's filling was good but almost non existent. Wine by the glass isn't priced so you get a shock when you get the bill. 12.50 for a glass of red... it was nice but only certain types of places fail to be transparent with these things. So many tables in the place that it is hard to navigate. I understand maximising profit but still it ruins the experience a bit. I can't imagine the chaos of it were full. Decent over all but very pricey for the quality offered.

On our last day in Rome, we decided to visit Castel Gandolfo for a half day trip. The restaurant is within 6 minutes walk from the train station with amazing view of the lake. We came on a weekday without reservation and was able to be seated on the balcony. The restaurant is elegant and food selection is great. We enjoyed our lunch and rested while taking the view. Highly recommended.

If you are visiting Castel Gandolfo, Pagnanelli is a must! Knowledgeable, welcoming staff, gorgeous view, and the perfect meal. Sommelier recommended the perfect regional pairings. The Prosciutto with melon, and burrata was delightful- add family goat cheese, trust me. Gnocchi with clams, calamari, and black truffle is a must and best meal in Rome. Rabbit was perfectly prepared, zucchini with pesto was delicious. The only reason this was not 5 was due to lamb with a bit more gristle and small bones in two pieces and chocolate coconut cake was dry. The wine cellar is breathtaking and was an unexpected escape.

The restaurant offers a stunning view of the lake, so I highly recommend booking a table on the balcony--either floor provides a fantastic experience. The wine cellar downstairs, which took fifteen years to carve into the rock, perfect for a happy hour or a light meal. Ask the staff, they'll happily offer a quick tour. The staff is courteous and the service is prompt. The food is very good, though some combinations are a bit unconventional. Prices are a bit high, but overall, it's a place I recommend.

Everything about this place was amazing. We were driving to Rome through this little town and saw this restaurant by accident. The people are kind the food is out of this world. We had this ricotta stuffed vegetable that look like a little corn on the cobs. We had the black truffle carbonara, which was mine blowing then we had the fillet with fig caramelized. if I was a food critic, I would give them a Michelin star. Humble amazing staff open since 1882. And the view of the lake was the cherry on top. I don't know what else to say except if you're lucky enough to come here you will enjoy it immensely. They also greeted us with some Prosecco drink when we came in.

Service was great, food was gorgeous and tasty and the views were outstanding. Sat facing the lake and enjoyed every minute of it. A must visit if you're looking for a romantic lunch or dinner location.

This restaurant is in a wonderful location m, and the views from the dining area are magnificent. Many of the tables face the lake which made the lunch very enjoyable. Also, the staff was friendly and came to our table often to make sure that everything was up to par. In terms of food, most of the dishes that we ordered was good. The fettuccine in duck sauce and rabbit are both great dishes. We also ordered the scallops, sea bass, and strudel; however, those were just average and nothing special.

Very good solid food. Make sure you have reservations as they don't really know how to move tables like they do in the US. We didn't have reservations and they gave us a table with no view even though the place was empty and continued to be empty during our entire meal.

What an experience! Seated on a terrace overlooking Lake Albano, the four of us took in breathtaking views as we were treated to the finest Italian cuisines and mouth watering wines. The service as impeccable as the scenery. Our favorite part was the tour of the wine cellar. If you like, you can even pick your own wine from the cellar. We had one of the family members who run this fabulous establishment select ours. We highly recommend you dine here whilst in Rome.

An experience. The food and service were very good, and the view.... Incredible. We wanted to get out of the city and experience a bit of the countryside and this restaurant was everything we wanted. Took about 45 minutes to get there and it was well worth the drive. Again, more then just a restaurant... great experience.

This is a beautiful restaurant in a stunning setting overlooking the lake near the Papal summer villa recently opened to the public (the gardens at least). I have eaten all over and this will be one of my most memorable meals and that goes for my friend that was with me as well. The owner graciously offered to show us the totally cool wine cellar with 35,000 bottles (some dating back almost 100 years) and we both agreed that the wine cellar was worth it alone. We went to some trouble to go there and braved Rome's Termini station (only the ticketing part was stressful) to get there. The ride is lovely and short and the views along the way....wow! In the Frascati wine section of Italy and 40 min from Rome it is a 4th gen restaurant with fun history and great food. If you are going ONLY for the food - well, it is good but I have had as good or better. So don't go if only for food. If you only go for the food, I wonder why you are traveling. The black truffle pasta was yum. The lemon meringue pie was phenomenal. One of the best pies I've ever had! Their homemade prosciutto was wonderful with the tasty fresh mozzarella. My friend Josh's zucchini flowers stuffed with octopus was somewhat blah. I would say take that off of the menu but maybe I missed something. I would say that the menu needs some focus, especially with tourists (if that is their market). I think they have too many menu items and some are very exotic. Wild boar prosciutto sounded interesting but I stuck with theirs which I assume was the typical. The town was having an elegant wedding right in the city center and everyone looked like an Armani model. It was just simply fun to see! Google the pictures of this town and this restaurant and you will want to go. The prices were reasonable for the location which is wealthy and the elegance. Even the bathrooms were fun (so I am entertained easily). The doors just spring open so don't be surprised. I loved the walls of old wine keys and the dusty old baby high chairs in the cellar. My pics on FB of the wine cellar and views from the terrace where making everyone I know jealous. I highly recommend it.

Arguably best restaurant in the world. Family owned since the late 1800's. It is no wonder that people travel far outside of downtown Rome to dine here (it was about an hour from the Spanish steps- we took the Metro and then a Train there, and a cab back that cost about 50 euros). Don't let the distance from downtown, prevent you from going to this place. From the service to the ambiance (it sits upon a lake) to the incredible wine cellar with 35,000 bottles of wine, and hundreds of empty bottles signed by the celebrities who eat here. The wine menu is bigger than the biggest highschool yearbook in the US. It was like a phonebook for wine. The sommelier was quick to help us find something in our budget. We ordered the two big appetizers (one was seafood, the other land) which were awesome. We ordered two pastas, a truffle seafood gnocchi, which was the best pasta dish I've had in my life, and a carbonara pasta that was also great. The main course a steak with pumpkin and cheese was interesting and very tasty. I think I'd order something different next time for a main. We had dessert in the wine cellar, which was so cool and intimate. The whole experience is A+ and will give you life long memories.
