The 24 Best Restaurants In Rome - Rome - The Infatuation

"Even though there are white tablecloths on every table, the atmosphere is anything but pretentious at Pecorino. A Sunday lunch here has the vibe of your long-lost cousin’s home who has old family pictures hanging on the wall of relatives you’ve never met or even heard of before. Yes, the waiters are dressed in fancy white button-downs, but you can tell they’ve been working here since they were teenagers, particularly because of how sarcastic and decisive they are. The portions are generous and unhurried, a quality much appreciated when delving into their creamy carbonara and the maltagliati con carciofi—irregularly-shaped flat pasta tossed with garlicky, oily artichokes and pecorino. For dessert, try their light and fluffy zabaione cake that’s sweet and eggy in the best way." - annie replogle

A simple, rustic place – a true Italian restaurant for locals and you might be seated quite close to the next table, so don’t expect a fancy, tourist-style place. The service is generally friendly, though sometimes a bit slow and slightly chaotic – but that’s part of the charm. We had the Roman-style artichoke, spaghetti carbonara, and pasta with wild mushrooms – all were very good. The carbonara was actually our favorite out of five restaurants we tried in the area! Prices are a bit on the higher side, but overall fair for the quality. Reservations are recommended.

Service was lovely, food was just ok, especially for Rome. Fried artichoke with prosciutto 4/5 Cacio e Pepe 2/5 Roasted lamb with potatoes 3/5 Tiramisu 3/5 The only thing “bad” was the cacio e Pepe which was extremely salty, I couldn’t finish it, and it’s one of my favorite pasta dishes. There also was no wine menu, I was only asked if I wanted red or white, but the red they brought was “fine” which is my overall sentiment of this restaurant. Just…fine. In fairness, I’d wanted to eat next door at Jole, but Jole told me they had no room for a table of 1 even though they had plenty of empty tables outside, so I went next door to Pecorino.

I double dipped on artichokes. The artichoke pasta was the best thing I ate in Rome! Service was friendly and excellent. Off the beaten path so definitely felt like a locals spot. Will for sure go back next time I’m in Rome.

Service was great and the food was solid, but not the best I’ve had. We tried the carbonara on the waiter’s recommendation and of course the cacio e pepe, both were decent, just didn’t fully hit. Still a nice spot, but not a standout for me.

I really enjoyed the dish — the pasta was delicious and perfectly cooked. The sauce was rich and flavorful, and the texture of the pasta was just right. You can tell the chefs here cook with passion. I also tried counting the calories using the service shown in the photo — it turned out to be super quick and convenient! I’d definitely recommend trying this calorie-counting tool — it makes tracking your meals so easy. Great place and a great experience!

I came here twice during my stay in Rome — a very authentic spot in Testaccio where locals eat. But also as a tourist, I was treated with real friendliness and the food was outstanding. The Roman-style artichoke was one of the best I had in Rome, and the saltimbocca with cicoria was fantastic. A special thanks to the lady at the entrance who kindly found a table for me — a solo female traveler — on a busy Saturday night. Very appreciated. One of my favorite places in Rome!

We had a great lunch with friends and family! Service is very nice, the atmosphere is very authentic and beautiful, and the restaurant is beautifully decorated! Food is how it should be, carbonara and caccio pepe were well prepared! Recommended if you live in or visit Rome.

Yelp
We had a wonderful family meal at Pecorino for 10 people in late June. Pecorino is a neighborhood place and the decor reflects it. Pecorino has all the traditional Italian (specifically Roman) dishes that you would want to try - fried artichokes, suppli, tripp's ally romana and pasta carbonara. The latter was the best I've ever had anywhere (we tried pasta carbonara at other restaurants later in the trip and this one had the crispiest and tastiest pancetta). We really enjoyed our meal in a homey surrounding with warm servers who did their best even with some language difficulties. We hope to be back one day.

Yelp
Don't let these yelp reviews fool you! This was the best dining experience/food we had in Rome. Not one tourist in sight, 100% local place, waiters speak only Italian and the menu was also in only Italian. Best pasta carbonara we had in Rome. I wish I could have eaten here every night but it was a bit far from the city. 5 stars.

Yelp
Disappointed. Prime location and nice staff, but that's all for me. Basic old timey decor and average food didn't make for a great evening. We had fritti for antipasto and it was fairly bland and slightly overlooked. My cacio e pepe was too salty and, as for the carbonara, it was only seemingly creamy, as the flavours didn't blend at all. The spaghetti used were of really average quality.
