24 Best Restaurants in Toronto, From Glossy Hotel Eateries to Greasy Spoons | Condé Nast Traveler

"Sotto Sotto's Italian cooking is flavorful and filling, but it may not impress food-lovers accustomed to more inventive menus—in some ways being at this restaurant is more important than eating at this restaurant. That said, the seafood risotto (which takes about 40 minutes to prepare) is incredible. And the wine list, dominated by super Tuscans along with a couple of frizzy Franciacortas has a lot of quality, if pricey offerings. The best time to come is during the Toronto International Film Festival during the first half of September when you might be seated next to an A-list actor." - Todd Plummer

We had an absolutely incredible experience at Sotto, and a huge part of that was thanks to our amazing server, Chris. From the moment we sat down, Chris made us feel right at home—welcoming, professional, and truly passionate about the menu. He went above and beyond to guide us through the best dishes, and every recommendation was spot on. You could tell he genuinely cared about making our evening special, and it showed in every detail of his service. The food was fantastic, but Chris elevated the entire experience with his friendly demeanor and top-tier hospitality. Thank you, Chris, for making our night so memorable. We’ll definitely be back—and we’ll be asking for you!

Sotto Sotto needs no introduction! This Italian restaurant is a fan favourite in Toronto and I know now why. The meal was perfection! For starters we got lamb shank (which is actually a main) and Burrata with prosciutto. The lamb was tender and falling off the bone. Delectable! For mains, we got the veal with porcini and white wine sauce (subbed the Chicken for veal), cacio e Pepe, Amatriciana and PENNETTE VIA FRATTINA. Ended the meal with strawberry tiramisu. The meal was par excellence and service was warm and pleasant. It was the perfect choice to celebrate our anniversary with the family. I am totally awed by the meal and portions and cannot wait to return!

Had such a lovely night dining at the bar - the gnocchi was a standout, perfectly recommended by the lovely Jaqueline, who truly made the evening special. She went above and beyond to accommodate my pregnancy needs and even crafted a mocktail of her own, which was a 10/10. Thank you for such a warm and memorable experience!

We dropped in at 5pm on a Monday with no reservation & they were kind enough to accommodate us. The staff was so engaging & funny & took part in our conversation. The food was to die for! The lamb literally melted in your mouth! The octopus was cooked to perfection!! So so good!!

Google
We had the caprese salad, cacio e pepe, my partner had the chicken scaloppini with porcini mushrooms, and we also had the affogato, chocolate cake, and tiramisu. The chocolate cake was delicious! We also had a strawberry mojito cocktail that was outstanding.

Came for my friends birthday celebrations. Our server was really delightful! I can’t remember his name but he was really great and the food was good. We had such a nice dinner. The atmosphere was really moody and cozy. I only have good things to say. I had the seafood paste which was really tasty . All my friends enjoyed their dishes. And the bartender was really good! They made my negorni perfectly

Google
Worth the hype. We went late Sunday night, 15 mins past the last reservation and they welcomed us with no rush all night. Food quality is amazing. We enjoyed the mussels and beef carpaccio for starters. Mains we ordered the filet (so so good, don't be thrown off that it's not a steakhouse) and the l'amatriciana made with gnocchi noodles and without meat since we don't eat pork. For dessert we ordered the tiramisu. Truly the experience here is rare nowadays - really high quality food and an at-home feel dining in. Service was amazing and they were very attentive to our table. I highly recommend the restaurant and all of the dishes we ordered. We can't wait to be back to try more. Thank you!!

Google
We came to Sotto Sotto based on its reputation. In the end, the food was good, the service was fine, and the bill was steep. Our waiter was friendly, but there was a sense that they wanted to move us in and out as fast as possible. This is ironic because in true Italian restaurants (we've been to many in Italy), there is a strong value of hospitality. We could spend hours in a restaurant in Amalfi or Trastevere, and we would never feel rushed. This seems to be a common trend in Italian restaurants in Canada - the hospitality value is lacking. Again, we had a fine experience at Sotto Sotto, but some slight work on service could make this place a 5 star! I'd recommend it, but with that caveat.

Yelp
The food is tremendous! The service is very good (but not great). I was very dissappointed with the seating arrangement options offered, there is very little privacy as the Avenue Road location is quite cramped. The building is literally an older townhome, but thus is the charm of the restuarant as well. Seating arrangements aside, the food is spectacular (and expensive) but you do get what you pay for! The service is very personal and professional. Had the seating been more pleasant, and less uncomfortable, I would have given FIVE STARS.

Yelp
If you like Italian food, this is a great place! The atmosphere is a bit stuffy, but the service is good and our waiter was knowledgeable and made some good recommendations. We shared a bottle of the sauv blanc, which left something to be desired, but the rest of what we ordered was great. We tried two salads, gnocchi with marinara sauce, papperdelle, cacio e pepe (must get), fish special, and two tiramisu's - pistachio and strawberry. Everything was excellent with the standout being the fresh pastas, with the standout amongst those being the cacio e pepe.

Yelp
During a vacation to Toronto, everything kept raving about this place. They said it was the premier place for Italian food and Canadian celebrities loved it. Well was able to get a resy for later in the week. Cool. First the location is pretty awesome, no issues there. This place has great ambience and the energy was good. Ordered some drinks, boy, they are pricey. Ok, get the drinks and for the price, they are pretty weak and watered down. Next the food. They have a great variety of choices and all sounded good. We chose our meals while trying to enjoy the weak drinks. The meals come and I have to say it was the most bland food I have had in a very long time. That went for all of our meals. Just tasted awful to the point we couldn't even finish them. The server was great so we didn't want to complain, but was not a good meal. It appears others loved their food so this is just my perspective. We loved to city and can't wait to go back, but this won't be on the return list.

Yelp
I have not enjoyed an Italian meal like this in so long! When we walked in, the environment was warm and elegant. Our waiter was extremely friendly and welcoming even though he was extremely busy. We started off with Mamma Laura's famous meatballs, and let me tell you, the dish was true to the name. In this case, my phone did not eat first. The aroma of the freshly cut herbs, Parmesan cheese, and homemade marinara sauce were an absolute seller. For my main course, I ordered the Calamrai aka Griglia. This was the dish that sold my experience. The Mediterranean seasoning had the perfect amount of salt that coupled well with the squid. It was beautiful, filling, and exactly the kind of seafood option that I wish every Italian restaurant had.

Yelp
Had such a wonderful and lovely experience at Sotto Sotto for a birthday celebration. The ambiance is beautiful, and all of the staff we're beyond pleasant and accommodating. Our server was an absolute gem, and provided detailed descriptions of all items. Now to the food: 10/10 Gorgeous! I selected the gnocchci in a bolognese sauce, which was so fresh and bursting with flavour. My partner opted for the carbonara which was OUTSTANDING. nothing more to say! The desserts were also phenomenal, especially the tiramisu. I am very much looking forward to coming back here again

Yelp
Such a disappointing meal and honestly so embarrassed that I suggested this place to my friends. The carbonara was probably one of the worst we have had. It was the one pasta dish our server suggested, 3 of us got it. The carbonara was so salty, cheesy and the pasta was so undercooked. We also suspect it to be cream base because it was so saucy, almost like soup. It was awful. We all had a few bites and left 3/4 of the plate untouched. We ordered the calamari and shrimp to start. It was fresh and pretty good. The bread was also not bad, nothing special. The service was average, our server seemed annoyed explaining the specials to us. Mid way telling us the specials, he asked if we are really interested in knowing the specials... He was quick at refilling our waters. That's probably because they don't offer tap water. So we were suckered into buying bottled water. We spent $40 on water alone, for four people. It's an expensive meal, which I'm honestly ok paying, if it's a good meal. This was not worth it at all, and I don't recommend.

Yelp
Ordered: Frittura Mista di Pesce (~CAD$29): buttermilk-battered and deep-fried shrimp and calamari with tartare sauce Fettuccine alla Bolognese di Mamma Laura (~CAD$29): "Little Ribbon" fettucine with Mamma's famous fresh homemade meat sauce Aya's take: Too many people have raved about Sotto Sotto for me to not try it during my first trip to Toronto. I'm also a huge Drake fan, and knowing how much he loves Sotto Sotto, this was a must-stop for me! We stopped by for lunch with a reservation and were seated right away. The Frittura Mista di Pesce was light, crispy, and the shrimp and calamari were both super fresh. The tartare sauce complemented both well. The Bolognese came highly recommended and although not something I would usually get, I'm so glad we did! It tastes so homey and traditional yet fancy and upscale all at the same time. While waiting for our dishes, a celebrity rapper walked in, and our waiter completely forgot about us for a while. I understand the importance of high-profile visitors but I didn't appreciate that from a service perspective. Other than that, it was a great, memorable experience.

Yelp
I recently came here with a friend for dinner. The atmosphere and service here are amazing, where I feel the food could be better given higher price point. We ordered the clams, meatballs to start and finished with a truffle pasta. The meatballs were my favourite dish, the pasta was okay but nothing too surprising.

Yelp
So the funny story is, we live in the US and made a reservation (or so we thought) and learned that the Resy reservation was for a restaurant of a similar name in Atlanta GA. We were offered dinner at the bar and it was absolutely the BEST experience as we were watched over by the amazing Simone. We started with Cacio e Pepe and it was to die for. My husband had the lamb shank and I had the veal chop. This veal chop was literally the best I've ever had. (See my before/after pics) Simone directed us to the best wines by the glass (quite a nice selection). For dessert we had a torte of ricotta and stewed pears that was delicious and light. We split it but I could easily have eaten my own. Dessert was accompanied by decaf cappuccinos and I had Galliano while he had a delicious 20-year old tawny port. TOTALLY 5 stars. Especially Simone!

Yelp
Decided to splurge and celebrate a birthday here. For a fine dining experience, where apparently many celebrities like to go, this place was so very disappointing! They must either serve the "rich and famous" something completely different or the "rich and famous" have no concept of what excellent food is. Our server was fantastic; however, you could tell they were very short staffed as he and the busboy were very hurried. When our server came to our table, he was very friendly and wonderful. Too bad he did not come by that often. He did mention that they were short staffed and that the kitchen was very busy. A few times the busboy would almost throw our cutlery down on the table when resetting for the next course. He was also not consistent in setting down the cutlery. Knives facing different directions for each person or spoons on different sides of the knife or fork. Normally I would not care that much but when I go to a fine dining restaurant, I expect to receive a fine dining experience. The main reason for coming here was to have exceptional Italian food. The food itself was mostly good but it wasn't mind blowing in anyway and did not inspire us to to come back. Especially not for the prices this place was charging. Here's what we had: * Frittura Mista Di Pesce- Buttermilk-battered and deep fried shrimp and calamari with tartare sauce - the oil was clean and everything was fresh. It's deep fried calamari and shrimp, nothing overly complicated. * Polpo Alla Puttanesca - Grilled octopus served with cherry tomatoes from Pachino, black olives, anchovies and capers from Pantelleria - the octopus was grilled well and not over done. The tomatoes were nice and fresh. It was good but not the best I've had. * Carpaccio Di Filetto Di Manzo Con Tartufo Nero Di Norcia E Stracciatella Di Burrata - Tomatoes with fresh black truffle from Norcia and burrata Stracciatella cheese - one of the most disappointing dishes! The Burrata was served to us too cold and the creamy centre wasn't creamy at all. Made me wonder if we even got Burrata or if we got Mozzarella. There is a difference! * Fettuccine Alla Bolognese Di Mamma Laura - "Little Ribbon" fettucine with Mamma's famous fresh homemade meat sauce - simple dish of pasta noodles with meat sauce. It was quite bland. I think the kitchen forgot the salt. * La Carbonara - Artisanal Zaccagni spaghetti tossed with crispy pork cheek from Amatrice, eggs, Sarawak black pepper and Roman *DOP Pecorino cheese - the sauce on this dish was well seasoned and quite delicious! However, the spaghetti was undercooked. It wasn't al dente, it was undercooked. When we finally had a chance to tell the server, he explained how the pasta chef is "Roman" and how the Romans feel this is how pasta should be cooked. He even mentioned that he's had many debates about this with the chef in the past. Basically we were served undercooked pasta on purpose. He suggested that next time we should let them know that we want our pasta al dente, the Italian way. Seriously? If you know this is what your kitchen is going to do, then you should inform your customers at the time of ordering. * Bistecca Alla Brace - Grilled Prime Canadian striploin with mushrooms au jus - nice huge juicy steak with a good amount of sides but nothing super special. * Costoletta Di Vitello - Grilled white provimi veal chop - tender and juicy; however, another dish served under season. Since our table was sharing everything, the kitchen cut the veal for us. * Cheesecake with fresh fruit compote, strawberry Tiramisu, Classic Italian Tiramisu, Ricotta Cheesecake with Pears and Almond Crust - the highlight of the dinner! All the desserts were delicious and presented beautifully on one large plate. Our favourite was the Ricotta Cheesecake with Pears and Almond Crust. All in all, the food was good but did not meet expectations. Since the kitchen was so slow and we were getting really hungry, we only told our server about the food experience we had after eating. There are so many other wonderful places you can go to great Italian food and a fine dining experience. This was not one of them. If you have money to burn and are into chance celebrity sightings (which we did not care about), go ahead and come here. If you want consistent, impeccable service and food that would make you want to come back the next day, go somewhere else.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this classic Italian restaurant... the menu is large with so many great dishes to choose from... excellent specials! Ordered the lamb shank... amazing.. the strawberry tiramisu..outstanding! Great appetizers...the waiters were knowledgeable and old school attentive. Loved this place

Yelp
extremely overpriced, and extremely underwhelming. The food was either underseasoned or lack in flavor. Probably one of the most expensive Italian restaurants I've been to yet it tasted like a three star restaurant at most. The staff and host are rude and act pretentious. Especially the host, they don't smile and act like they just want you to leave. Every thing was very mediocre. Nothing stood out - not the taste, not the quality of ingredients, not the plating, not the decor, not the service. I wish I could've like this place but I would recommend 10 other Italian restaurants than this.

Yelp
Appetizers: 1) CARPACCIO DI FILETTO DI MANZO CON TARTUFO NERO DI NORCIA E STRACCIATELLA DI BURRATA Beef tenderloin with fresh black truffle from Norcia and burrata Stracciatella cheese was ok, nothing special. 2) FRITTURA MISTA DI PESCE Gamberi e calamari fritti in tempura con salsa tartara. Buttermilk-battered and deep fried shrimp and calamari with tartare sauce was ok as well, again nothing special. 3) Grilled octopus was good but not the best I've had Entrees: 1) PICCATINA DI VITELLO AL LIMONE Veal scaloppine in a fresh lemon sauce was didn't look that good LOL I didn't try this one 2) Creamy truffle fettuccine with shaved truffles was flavourful and delicious 3) Sea bass cooked on the grill, expertly seasoned with Sotto's seafood dressing was delicious but a tad over salty in some areas 4) Carbonara was a tad salty and the pasta was undercooked to my liking Dessert: 1) SOTTOS LEGENDARY TIRAMISU Their time honoured classic Italian Tiramisu was so delicious! 2) The strawberry Tiramisu was even better in my opinion since I love strawberries. It was refreshing and delicious. This made the overall experience so much better. I absolutely love this dessert. It was not too sweet but yet so flavourful 3) Pistachio cake with pistachio bits was very good as well

Yelp
I had a solo dinner here per Drake's recommendation. I say go for the tiger prawns. Authentic Italian food, seasoned to perfection. I enjoyed myself but I would like to go back with friends.

Yelp
Ever since I was young I remember people telling me that one of the best restaurants in Toronto was Sotto Sotto. I have now come to realize that those people know nothing about food. Sotto Sotto is a pedestrian Italian restaurant that survives on reputation but not quality. Thoughts that this place should get a Michelin star are downright laughable. First the service. Which is required to get to 2 or 3 stars. There really wasn't much. When asked for recommendations our waiter gave passing answers that were variations of "I'm not you so I dont know what to tell you." Our waiter was much more preoccupied with tending to the larger party table next door than either of his other two tables which included ours. This included the standard birthday dessert and song for that larger table (more on that later). For the food, which is the minimum to get 1 star. It was all very average. Nothing was bad. But nothing was good. Best was the calamari because when you fry something it's hard to screw up. The carpaccio was basic and presentation kind of bad with the dollops of sauce on the meat. The meatballs were average. No big deal. The ones I get from the airport restaurant in Toronto are better. For mains we had the bolognese (average), mushroom risotto (ok but over priced and too chewy) and the veal Limone (small portion). We ordered a lot for two people and had two of their more expensive wines by the glass as well. You'd think the service would reflect that. The waiter was MIA for most of the dinner and both our table and the table next door were sitting for very long periods of time to get our dishes cleared and bill brought to us. The kicker for me? I had informed the restaurant that it was my birthday through Amex concierge and when I called to change my time. They knew it was my birthday. They did nothing for me. Recall I mentioned they sang and gave a free dessert to the larger table I referenced earlier. This place is supremely overrated. I won't be back. It's an average Italian restaurant masquerading as a good one because some celebrities that don't have taste like to go there. If you want a good meal go somewhere else. I won't be back. There are much better options in the city than this souped up East Side Mario's.

Yelp
Drake's (alleged) favorite restaurant? After sitting on my food list patiently waiting to be crossed off, I finally got to try out Sotto Sotto! We ordered: Fried calamari: This had both calamari and shrimp with tartar sauce. I found it to be pretty average, I wasn't blown away but it was not bad Arugula salad: This was delicious, with a very sharp gorgonzola cheese, sweet pears and crunchy walnuts that all worked together harmoniously Spaghetti vongole: They were generous with the clams and the flavors were good however I just wished they were deeper Gnocchi: The gnocchi was creamy, but the actual pasta was on the denser side, I prefer them to be light and airy (like the kind at Cano) Shrimp angel hair pasta: The flavors were nice but the texture of this really reminded me of vermicelli noodles with a tomato based sauce lol Mushroom risotto: This was a pretty big portion sharable between at least 2 people. But for $50+ it was really just mushrooms, butter, rice and cheese so I felt like this was overpriced Salmon special (?): The piece of fish was bigger than I thought it would be but I felt that it had a lingering fishy taste Tiramisu: This is their classic Italian dessert which was good but nothing to write home about. Cheesecake: I'm not a big fan of many types of cheesecake as I think its too heavy, rich and sweet all at the same time. But this was complementary which was nice Pistachio dessert: The ice cream was creamy and had strong pistachio flavour and the pastry was flaky and delish Overall, the ambiance was upscale yet warm and homey which was nice however the food itself wasn't anything to write home about. I personally wouldn't come back as there are soooooo many new and consistently good restaurants in the GTA.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere. Alessandra was great in coordinating a last minute time for me and the service was fantastic as well. Food was as expected and top notch as well. Prices were fair too!

Alex N.

Yelp
I found my experience to be completely ordinary and not worth the price point. There is a lot of hype around this establishment. When you are greeted with an attitude from the maître de and hosts, and that same attitude follows to the servers - it does not make for a pleasant evening. the food is tasty, but they have some work to do to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone.

Gaylee B.

Yelp
the service was ok. The food could be better. Overall I would try it again. The branzino was the best part of the meal i will recommend to try here

Bryan S.

Yelp
Everything about this restaurant experience was excellent! Appetizers, main dishes and dessert. Can't go wrong and the strawberry tiramisu is incredible.

Yelp
Where most may not admit "Or Sotto Sotto, just talkin' about women and vino" brought me here. At first hearing it, I wasn't sure of what Sotto Sotto was. After further research and high ratings, I knew I had to visit one day. That one day would finally come as my fiance was visiting Toronto. I'm happy to say the food lived up to the hype. I myself ordered the il Cacio e Pepe and my fiance ordered the Pennette via Frattina. Capped off with the torta dolce al formaggi. Everything I will say was amazing. What was once a lyric to me is now a restaurant I will frequent in Toronto.

Yelp
Toronto has many great Italian spots all over the city, but few have the distinction of being one of Drake's favourite spots in the city. Sotto Sotto gave me the vibes of walking into a scene of The Godfather, with classic white cloth table setups and dark rooms with old-school decor. The service was excellent - they were super accommodating with our dinner party - and the staff were great with recommendations and very friendly. The food was great, they have lots of daily specials and we tried a little bit of everything, including caprese salad, caesar salad, octopus, and bread. For mains we tried the carbonara, seafood pasta, short rib, chicken parmigiana, and osso bucco which seemed to be the biggest hit. Overall the food was very solid, unfortunately I didn't get many pictures but I guess that means I'll have to come back for more!

Yelp
Second visit and even though it was during a pandemic, such a pleasure! My visits were a year apart but pretty sure it was the same waiter both times. He's amazing and super attentive. My main dish was the frattina. Amazing choice but I definitely fell in love with black truffle pasta special. Our group ordered the bufala caprese, cozza tirene and polipo verace alla piastra to share. A little bit of each to try and the main dish was the perfect amount of food for the visit.
google avatar

Sara G.

Yelp
I expected the food to have a more exceptional flavor given price and attitude of restaurant. Did not live up to the hype. Sorry.

Marko V.

Yelp
Excellent old school Italian restaurant. It is a bit of a Toronto institution. The service, food and ambiance is very good,

April B.

Yelp
I was excited to go to Sotto Sotto with my husband for my birthday this past weekend. We were seated at 9 p.m. and our waiter came to our table about 15 minutes later and asked if we would like some water. He actually walked by shortly after, told us he forgot about the water. It was 9:40 p.m. by the time we received my husband's beer and my champagne cocktail. There was an empty table next to us, where one of the waiters brought a bread basket, realized no one was sitting there and then gave to us. We had a good laugh over that. Our salads were fine, but where they really dropped the ball was my pasta. I ordered the carbonara, and the bucatini was hard. Barely cooked, and inedible. All in all, we were disappointed from start to finish and will never return. Don't waste your money or time.

Yelp
AVOID TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE BETTER OPTIONS ELSEWHERE - was served 3 risottos when I asked for one, and was blamed by the staff that I ordered that many - risotto was raw as well I was quite excited to try this place with two friends. The miscommunication ruined the whole experience for me. Knowing that the lunch stops at 3pm and that the risotto takes 40 mins to cook. I called in ahead of time to speak to someone around 1:30pm to have my amalfi risotto ready as I was making my way there. I spoke to a server, I informed her that I wanted 1 order of the Seafood risotto for a table of 3 people. I think it was this point where the miscommunication happened. She agreed and said it will be ready for us. We arrived at 2pm, we spoke to the initial server and I asked him about the risotto, that I called in about. And he's like is it for here or to go? I told him that we were dining in. We were seated and waited for 40 mins. Before the risotto came out. To our surprise they brought us THREE RISOTTO dishes. Mind you, on the menu the risotto dish serves 2 people. At no point in time between 2pm to 2:40pm there was any clarification on the order. So I asked the server and informed him that I only wanted 1. So he fetched the server that I spoke to on the phone. And she insisted that I ordered 3 Risottos. I tried to explain to her that party was not ready to eat 6 peoples portion of risotto. My experience is already ruined at this point. I don't know why she would think that I would want 6 people amounts of risotto. I could've tried other things in the restaurant. The risotto itself looked amazing. So if the food was okay I didn't mind. Unfortunately the risotto was under-cooked. It had a grainy, sandy texture that stuck to the teeth. I informed my guests, and another one agreed with me. I let the server know, he brought Chef Massimo Renzi tableside and he just told me it was cooked al dente, and that he used carnaroli rice. So know we're stuck eating extra risotto that was under-cooked. My other friend thought the rice was fine, until he tried the one underneath the top layer. I'm assuming that the chef probably tasted that top layer and thought the other rice cooked as well. The seafood in the risotto was perfectly cooked but the dish was spoiled under-cooked rice. I think ultimately the experience was ruined when I got 3 Risottos instead of 1. Which caused the quality of control to go down on the rice. You will see in the photos that you can see the centre of the rice. Which is an indicator that the rice was raw.

Yelp
Customer Service: I don't like how you have to wait until the day of to get confirmation for your reservation. Otherwise, staff was very accommodating, kind and professional. Although it was a small space (easy to miss) the space was beautiful and elegant. The atmosphere was on the upscale side but felt cozy Food: Food portions are small but delicious so it was worth it. For appetizers we got the gamerino vashera/antipasto gordonia (grilled tiger shrimp, calamari, caprese salad, roasted pepper and asiago cheese) which was amazing...

Christina X.

Yelp
Dark, cozy atmosphere. Food was delicious. Lots of seafood (and big shrimp) in the pasta. The smoked salmon pasta was also nice and creamy. The Carpaccio Di Manzo was amazing. Pastas are a nice food portion. The tiramisu was basic but not bad. The service was good and the waiter was hilarious. The price of the food is reasonable. Would definitely come back again.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday evening with 4 people. The seafood risotto was good with lots of seafood. The surprising part was that the server/restaurant added automatically added a 20% tip to the bill. He just put in the tip amount himself on the POS terminal and said service charge was added. I do not like being forced into tipping at a certain amount and therefore would not visit the restaurant again.

Yelp
Hard to get a reservation, but we finally got one. We went for dinner service recently. From the bar we had two glasses of red wine each (the server suggested some) which were very well balanced. From the menu, we had the ANTIPASTO GORDONIA, CARPACCIO DI FILETTO DI MANZO, CACIO E PEPE, PICCATA DI VITELLO AL LIMONE and PATATE ARROSTITE. Of all of them the Carpaccio and the Cacio e Pepe stood out the most, although I wished the carpaccio was a bit more seasoned and had slightly more acid. The antipasto was good but nothing stood out for me there, same with the veal. Looking forward to coming back.

Yelp
We frequent Sotto Sotto often and enjoy having our meals there. During the pandemic, we got takeout and it was a total disappointment. I asked for mushroom lasagna - very small portion. The chicken dish is also ridiculously small. Tiramisu costs more than the menu price for some reason and one of them is collapsed.

Yelp
Every dish here is amazing, food and service is incredible and don't be surprised if you bump into a celebrity here and there. Very friendly staff awesome food and prices are fairly reasonable I highly recommend !

Yelp
Came here after hearing about this location in Drake song. This location would definitely be considered fine dining and would excellent for a upscale occasion. The walls are filled with celebs that have came to dine here over the years which is different for sure. I came here for work and ended up eating at the bar which was a pleasurable experience. The tiger Shrimp were big and nicely seasoned but the asparagus was incredible! Yum! Next time in Toronto I'll be back to visit and check out more items on the menu!

Yelp
The best!! Excellent Italian food! You must try the pasta with clams, grilled shrimp and squid, capers, tiramisu. Everything is outstanding. Lamb chops cooked to perfection!

Yelp
What a fantastic place! A hidden gem at that! We had reservations and once we arrived we were immediately seated upstairs in a dim area lit with candles. Our server was lovely and described the specials and menu in detail. I went with the Pappardelle Dei Castelli and Minestrone soup. We were brought some fresh bread and olive oil which was amazing. My soup was amazing. Not over done and was tasty. The entree was perfection. You can tell the noodles are homemade and wow that sauce was amazing- I opted for butter cream sauce versus the wine sauce that is typically included. Glad I went this route!! We had to try some dessert too so we all split the Gelato Affogato and Devils Chocolate Gelati. Both were satisfying and presented nicely. Love this intimate establishment and will definately be back!

Yelp
Very disappointing.Sotto Sotto was always a fantastic dinner choice. Not only was our service disappointing and cold the food was not what it used to be. The pasta was not cooked well, the veal came cold and the salads lacked flavour. Either COVID has had an impact on the kitchen and or management or it was just a bad night. I am questioning whether I will ever go back. I will definitely tell others about my evening. Very sad to see one of my favourites like this.

Yelp
I seriously do not understand the hype with this place. It's not good. Both times have been terrible. The gnocchi tasted like something I'd buy frozen at the local chain grocery store. You'd think a place like this would make their own. If they do, it's even more laughable. This second time, a large group wanted to order from them to support them during these tough times for restaurants. You'd think they'd want to do their best. We had the food delivered and guess whose order they forgot? You can't make it up. I was the only one of the 12 that they forgot. When they finally got it to me the entire party had finished, Sotto Sotto didn't add a desert or anything to try to make amends, and the food was still bland and as terrible as I remember. This time I ordered a Caesar salad and the angel hair/shrimp dish. Tasted like boiled shrimp and pasta. That's it.

Yelp
If I Could rate zero I would, 30$ eggplant parm. Pictures say a thousand words. Even worse, when I called to let them know their food quality was below satisfactory the woman at 4:30pm on June 10 2021 laughed. Laughing at a customer buying your food....during a pandemic, classy. Gross food and even more appalling management. The only laughable thing here is the pics below

Yelp
Top 3 Italian in the city. Nice atmosphere. Valet parking. Great service. Very tasty Italian with gluten free options. Ask for the house made fresh stuffed pasta. My date and I had an amazing stuffed pasta that was off the menu. This was one of the best pasta dishes I've had in the city. The lamb melts in your mouth. They lay the fish out for display which is great for assessing freshness.

Yelp
Classy high end italian restaurant. Very dimmed, the waiters need a flashlight to see the menu with the customers. It was fine for us but older individuals might not be able to see the menu. I saw an older man looking at the menu as far as he could hold haha. The washroom is upstairs close to where the kitchen is. It's an inconvenience how far it is but the washroom is pretty. There is a vanity section for the ladies. Food was amazing. Spectacular. Every dish was great and is truly authentic. Their seafood done to perfection. Lovely selection of wine. Complimentary bread. Service was accomadating but very cliche. The moment we paid, he stopped coming to us. Still half a bottle of wine left but did not stop at all to finish pouring.

Yelp
I went to Sotto Sotto tonight for dinner with my husband. It was his 36th birthday. This was hands down the best experience I've ever had at any restaurant. We made resos and were promptly taken to our table as we walked in. The service was totally on point. Our servers name was Frank. He was sooo good and honestly checked in just enough times to make sure we didn't need anything. We ordered the share platter app, I had the mushroom pasta and my husband had the salmon pasta. For dessert we had the cannoli and melted lava cake with a latte. I can't tell you how delicious the food was. Hands down the best pasta we've ever had. The ambiance, the lighting and the service was all top notch. I would highly recommend this place and am gonna add this to a regular spot for date nights !! Loved it.

Yelp
Sotto sotto is a upscale italian restaurant in downtown toronto. We immediately got seated in a romantic environment dining area. Our server came up quickly to give us suggestion. We ordered Filet Mignon, and Seafood Risotto. Both taste great, I strongly recommend both dishes. We finished up with the tiramisu, it was average but it still gave a great touch at the end of our meal. I would definitely go back again to the restaurant

Yelp
I went here for my birthday, the place is nice, a little dim for my liking, most of the staff are friendly, our server in the other, well her body language speaks a lot. The food wasn't fantastic for the price we paid. I mean, a middle school kid could do better with the flavours. Presentation wise, excellent. Just wish the food tasted just as good as it looks. We were recommended to go here and left disappointed.

Yelp
Cozy and intimate, yet buzzing with energy from the many patrons who are clearly enjoying themselves into the night. They offer a fantastic setting to enjoy a couple of bottles with your meal, and you'll likely rub elbows with a few notable guests who are in town. The dishes are served with ample portions, chock full of seafood, sometimes on the saltier side. The branzino was the highlight of our meal!

Yelp
This restaurant has been on my list since hearing it in a Drake song and didn't disappoint. We ordered the grilled calamari, scallops, carbonara, gnocchi, and the tiramisu and chocolate lava cake for dessert. The scallops were a bit salty but overall, everything was delicious! My personal favourite would be the gnocchi. The service was also amazing - our server was friendly and attentive. As an added bonus, got to see Drake and Jimmy Butler!

Yelp
Some of the best gnocchi I've ever had (and I'm a gnocchi connoisseur). Perfect portion size, still had room for dick after dinner.
