"Rita’s serves more than just Italian ices at its shops, they also carry old fashioned, frozen custard soft serve. Flavors include vanilla, chocolate, coffee, light vanilla, strawberry, and orange cream. Frozen custard is served in a cup or a cake cone. There’s also a location in Suwanee." - Beth McKibben

A cool way to end the week with some great customer service by the even cooler Caleb. All Ice's are Vegan friendly with a good selection of Cream Ice, Milkshakes, Frozen Custard, Gelati & Cookie Sandwiches. Tasty & refreshing treats. & did I mentioned how cool Caleb was?

I arrived prior to store opening without realizing it. The young lady preparing for the work day kindly helped me anyway. This was a wow moment as it was unexpected and was over the top customer service. I love Rita’s chocolate custard with fruity Italian ice. So yummy!! Special treat I get myself when I’m in the Chamblee/brookhaven area. Thank you to the young lady who opened early to satisfy my Rita’s fix!!!

Google
Recently had our first visit this year and this will be our last. Over the past few years my family and I have enjoyed coming to Rita's. The staff has always been kind and helpful. Although this year I noticed this prices have increased which we fully understand... but seriously.... This was a small custard $7.00 (plus tax)... It was about 8-10 bites and then it was gone.... Not sure if this location was purchased by a new group or if they are just trying to raise prices and serve less... But either way unacceptable.

Google
When you order outside, you can’t see the full menu so when I ordered a small milkshake expecting it to be under 5 dollars, they made it and gave it to me before I could even know the price. 8 dollars for a small milkshake lol. I don't know why you would even bother selling milkshakes at that point. I saw there was a very small display of how much the milkshakes were but it was impossible to see from where I was at. It felt like I got scammed. I would stick with the italian ice, but if y’all are going to sell milkshakes at least make them a little affordable.

Google
I've never had frozen custard before but this was delicious! I had vanilla custard mixed with peach Italian ice. It was creamy and thick and satisfying.

Google
Very gross inside. The employees also think it’s okay to bring their baby to work like it’s a day care. So when you walk in you’re greeted by a crying baby and rude staff. The team is too busy screaming at each other to actually serve you. It also just stinks so bad! Don’t come here!!! Run!! Hide!!!!

Elise

Google
Visited on a Wednesday afternoon. They had the doors locked so only the walk up window was open. A group of 4 people walked up right before me. They weren’t informed that only 4 flavors were available nor that the blender was down before ordering a Misto ( blended water ice and ice cream ).

Google
This was my first time at Rita's, and my friend and I both got frozen custard. It was perfect for a hot day! We ordered from the walk-up window, and the staff were all wearing masks. Additionally, people in line were social distancing. The frozen custard was creamy and tasted great with our toppings. I got Oreo, and my friend got Heath. At $5 for a small cup with one topping, it is a bit expensive, but I think it's in line with prices I've seen elsewhere for frozen custard. If you're okay with that price point, I recommend trying it out!

Yelp
great smiles, great custard , great service!!! Price point fine. Always a stop after games, dinner when in the area. Must go To!!!!

Yelp
This may be the last standing Rita's in the Atlanta area. If you ever been to one or had anything from there, you know it's the real deal. I love this location as it's easy access parking wise and they always have great service. My last visit was a big purchase of their quart containers to take home and enjoy. They were patient as it wasn't a quick order to complete and continued to help other patrons as they took care of my order. They also work as a team which is nice to see. Out of all the combinations I've tried so far, my favorite gelati mixture is the vanilla swirl with half and half strawberry and coconut cream cream ice.

J C.

Yelp
The best water ice and ice cream. Love that i can get a taste of home in Atlanta. Would love for more sugar free options to be available.

Chris M.

Yelp
Fun place with shaved ice & ice cream for the kids after sports. The staff is friendly, I just wish they added a few more tables and chairs outside for the weekend crowd.

Hannah D.

Yelp
8.60 for a SMALL wtf... and the small is now smaller too like 2inches tall. Maybe it's worth it when you go on the first day of spring when it's free

Yelp
I kept on hearing about Rita's Italian Ice and Frozen Custard, and how good it is ever since I moved to the Atlanta area in 2015. I always planned to come here, but the planets never quite aligned correctly. The long lines that I saw at the Rita's Italian Ice in Brookhaven always scared me off, and this place is now just down the street from me. This business is almost always busy, and is in a small shopping center named Cambridge Square. Rita's does not allow indoor seating; nor are there any tables outside. It's all strictly order inside or at the walk up window and take it all to go, either back to your car, or you can take a short walk across the street and enjoy your treat at Blackburn Park somewhere in the shade. On Wednesday of last week, I dragged R in with me during the early afternoon to finally try something from Rita's. There were only two other customers inside when we got there. Parking was easy to find. All of the employees and customers wore face masks, and we all social distanced from each other. There is a plexiglass barrier at the counter separating the customer side from the employee side. I looked at the big menu on the wall and got immediately intimidated by the different treats served up here, such as Italian ice, frozen custard, gelati (layers of Italian ice and custard), concrete (custard blended with toppings), blendini (custard blended with Italian ice and toppings), Misto shake (Italian ice blended with custard), frozen drink (Italian ice blended into a drink) and milkshake (made with custard). Choices, choices, choices ... Ugh! One thing I noticed quickly about the employees is that they are very quick and very efficient. They also have great customer service skills. All these positive traits were most probably learned and practiced a lot during the times when the crowds line up. The employees were also helpful. Because I was so indecisive, one of the employees cheerfully offered to provide me with tiny sample spoons of any flavors I'd like to try. I looked at the list of Italian ices on the wall that is updated as flavors are brought out or they run out of flavors, and asked for a sample of the coconut Italian ice. Uh ... it was much sweeter than I liked, so this discovery allowed me to happily eliminate many of the items on the menu. This left the frozen custard, concrete and milkshake formats for me to choose from. I finally ordered a custard twist sundae (both vanilla and chocolate), with brownie bites, whipped cream and a cherry on top. I liked that the brownie bites weren't too sweet, so this was a perfect frozen custard treat for me. R got a Misto shake with pineapple Italian ice and vanilla custard, and he really liked it. The next time I come back, I will most likely get either a concrete or a milkshake, since I like the frozen custard here at Rita's.

Yelp
Cute place with a wide selection .Service was fast. Coffee was delicious. More then enough parking.

Yelp
I love Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard! I grew up eating Italian ice and every time I have it takes me back to those fun childhood memories. Rita's taken Italian ice to the next level!! Their Italian ice flavor game is like none other. They always have a pretty large variety of ice flavors you choose from. The hardest thing? Narrowing down your choices. Fun Fact: They make this ice fresh each day! Another fun fact: It's made with fresh fruit! Love both of those things. This location is awesome. It's located right off of Ashford Dunwoody Rd across from a Blackburn Park. It's in the same plaza as Starbucks and Kroger. They keep the shop clean and well organized. Staff is friendly and helpful. Their service is quick too without skipping a beat in getting your order right and not compromising good service. I love how this location has a window option that you can walk up and order from. So convenient. Their custard is so good too! They have an assortment of custard flavors. You can get toppings to your custard order it too. I like that you have options to go the custard route which is creamy and nice or the Italian ice route. You can't go wrong with either. Rita's is also generous with their portions too which I appreciate. Quality and flavors are consistent and on point. Oh, and my pup is a huge fan of Rita's custard. She loves it! So what's my fav flavors? Man, that's so hard for me to narrow it down...but if I had to... -original custard is on point -black cherry- my go to -mango- takes me back every time to my trips to Hawaii. So solid -mango-orange- best blend of both worlds! -pear- refreshing and fun! -pineapple- also always takes me back to the Island vibes Definitely make sure to check out my favorite Rita's location! This is family owned location and you can tell a lot of love goes into their dessert treats and how they take care of their customers.

Yelp
I finally got a a Ritas. It's been so long. I love frozen treats. This is one of my favorite places. Been going since 2009 when the first opened in my old community. They had some of my favorites this day. They had an inside for those with masks specifically and outdoor area but one line. I got two things. One was just a kids cone with vanilla custard and I got a strawberry gelati which is the Italian ice and custard on the top and bottom. It's so awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed both treats and I did space them out. The Italian ice is so smooth and not that crunchy ice. The frozen custard is soft and creamy. I wish they would open one in my city. Instead I have to enjoy when I travel all over the country. It was great. The staff was friendly but focused but I get it with the line. I will be back when in town.

Gerri-Lynn S.

Yelp
Just drove from downtown Atlanta for them to tell me they had a busy weekend and are out of vanilla ice cream. How do you run out of vanilla ice cream? It's what you sell. I mean you only have 2 flavors that's it. Chocolate or Vanilla‍ I'm so disappointed Rita's.

John A.

Yelp
I have been eating Italian Ice over fifty years. I Gail from Staten Island and I grew up going to the original Ralph's in Port Richmond. I have been going to Rita's in Brookhaven for five years. I always by the same thing, a large lemon ice. The current young staff is wonderful. They are kind and work hard, even when it is crowded and their may be few people working there at those moments. Sometimes customers can be rude and impatient. I felt so sorry for a young Asian waitress who was treated very badly by a customer a week ago on a Friday when she was handling a family with children, alone, while a waiting customer complained unjustifiably. These are trying times we are living in. Please treat these young people well. They are our future. They are kind and sweet. We value both this business and the workers.

Zoie S.

Yelp
3rd time in a row the ice cream machine was down. Never enough flavors. Italian ice is melty

Courtney T.

Yelp
This is our 5th time here and we're big fans. There's always a lot of flavors available and I enjoy being able to gain points towards a reward after 10 purchases. Tonight we got a water ice with Swedish fish/cotton candy and a gelati with chocolate soft serve and Oreo cream ice. Both delicious!

Brittney C.

Yelp
Wow ! Rita's was like a childhood staple of mine. Growing up in philly , water Ice is like a highlight fur spring and summer time fun. So when I found out there was one in Dunwoody I was pretty excited. This location is decent. It's in sandy springs / Dunwoody area and in a shopping complex with Kroger so parking is available. The staff was great! Now let's get to the reason for the 3 stars. No cheese pretzels Not a lot of flavors Simple. You're Rita's ! I was expecting signature flavors to be available and who serves water ice without pretzels??? Come on

Andrea S.

Yelp
The gelati is amazing I had orage ice with vanilla custard!!! No missing on those flavors, they also gave some ice cream to my dogs! Thank you

Natasha D.

Yelp
I love me some Rita's! This was not my first time at a Rita's, but the first at this location. I really like how there is a service window so you don't actually have to go inside to place an order. Not sure if it was always this way, or because of COVID, but either way it was noted and appreciated. I always get the vanilla soft serve and black cherry Italian ice. A winning combo!

Nikki M.

Yelp
I grew up enjoying Rita's in Ohio, so when I moved here and discovered this one I was ecstatic. The service here is consistent and the staff are pretty friendly. The ice is amazing every time. Custard is my favorite!

Bahar A.

Yelp

Yelp
Rita's is the perfect treat on a hot sunny day. The fun flavors of cold Italian ice will win over kids and adults alike. Paired with the smooth and creamy texture of the custard, it's a perfect combination. This location is no frills and is a small shop, but the service has always been exceptional and fast. They'll let you sample a number of options before having to commit. With so many good choices, you might opt for the Italian ice combo, which lets you pick four different flavors. Why choose one when you can have four? The top selling combo is the mango gelati, which definitely had me wolfing down a whole cup. My kids like Swedish Fish (it really does taste like Swedish Fish) and Cotton Candy with no custard, while my husband liked the watermelon ice, which had chunks of fresh watermelon. Needless to say, there's something for everyone. Menu options range from basic ice, to sundaes, to concretes. Sadly, many of the other Rita's in Atanta have closed. So this is the only existing one in the city, with the Suwanee Rita's being the next closest. It's located in the plaza across from Blackburn Park with plenty of parking.

Jessica M.

Yelp
Omg this place is delicious! I can't believe I haven't been to this place sooner. The vanilla custard tastes like nothing I've ever had before lol.

Scott S.

Yelp
Overpriced for the quality and quantity you are receiving. The ice cream was also very melted. Yes, totally overpriced and under portioned. I wanted this to be better. You're better off driving all the way to zestos on Piedmont for soft serve. in the neighborhood, try southern custard as is top-notch service and top-notch quality however it is very pricey.

Annie M.

Yelp
I love this place! Rita's made me fall in love with custard and Italian ice. I never knew of the flavor explosion they made together until I went to Rita's. I always order the gelati. They put custard on the bottom, Italian ice and top it with more custard. The vanilla is so creamy and more flavorful that any ice cream. It's smooth and clings to your tongue for lasting flavor effects. I love all of the Italian ice I've tried so far: Mango Cotton candy Swedish fish Peeps Coconut Birthday cake Possibly a few more. I typically get mango or cotton candy as those are my favorites. They're not too sweet, but the flavor is evident. They also have a blend where they mix the two together and add a topping. I didn't like the texture of this with Oreos, it kinda felt pasty. They do just custard and just ice also. A new thing they have is the blended one with a core of fudge. The shop itself is small, and they have a limited number of flavors but they switch out often for seasonal flavors. This location beside kroger remains open year round luckily.

Shaquita Y.

Yelp
Oh how i wish this was located everywhere! perfect treat on a warm day it's a mom and pop type shop that serves frozen custard and italian ice. you can do combinations these two as well such as a gelato which is custard at the bottom, topped with frozen italian ice and finished off with more custard on top, milkshakes, custards cups, and a variety of toppings. they offer about a dozen different flavors but i always seem to go with the same, cherry ice/chocolate ice cream combination. go for the small. even though the large is $.40 more, it's wayyy more than you can finish without feeling disappointment in yourself. employees were pleasant and helpful with their recomendations of ray friend who was visiting a rita's for the very first time

Eriel P.

Yelp
Terrible staff! I walked up and the lady saw me and quickly locked the door to the entrance at 8:30pm. I can understand if the inside was closing, just the way it was done was very rude. Then I was ignored for 5 mins before they took my order, which felt racially motivated. Shortly After I ordered another patron that was WHITE walked up then was greeted and acknowledged. I won't be back unless the staff is changed.

Alicia C.

Yelp
Favorite goto ice cream places, custard with italian ice is the perfect combo! Fun flavors like swedish fish :)

Leslie T.

Yelp
Give me some Rita's!! I am in love with this place's lemon and lemon only. The location is a bit drab and looks like they could use some renovations but the ice is on point! It is located in a little strip mall off of Ashford Dunwoody across from the park. The customer service is really hit or miss at this location. I guess it just depends on the day. The custard is just average. I got it once and will never again but I highly recommend the lemon. Have I mentioned that?

Brandice A.

Yelp
I wish they had more locations, anyhow the treat today was very refreshing in this Ga heat. Shop is kidna small, but it is clean. My son had strawberry lemonade and I had thr cotton candy, it was so freaking good and not too sweet. They are now open year around

Julia L.

Yelp
Rita's is a staple up north however, they're not nearly as popular in the south. I was introduced to it as my husband, who is from Philly, grew up eating it. It's such a refreshing treat and I'm shocked there aren't more locations in ATL. Water ice is such a great treat especially bc it's not overtly sweet. They also offer frozen vanilla or chocolate custard akin to your typical soft serve but much richer and creamier. I always order the gelati which is a cup of water ice topped with a swirl of custard. It's def my favorite summer treat. I'm so glad that the one of two Rita's locations in GA is nearby me. If you want a cold treat to get you through these excruciatingly hot ATL summers, I highly recommend you stop by Rita's.

Alicia D.

Yelp
I'm more of a fro-yo girl, but this is a cool treat for a hot day. Rita's has a mom and pop vibe that attracts lots of fans, young and old alike. The store may be dated and lack the polish of newer frozen treats places, but that doesn't seem to faze their business. I ordered the most popular item, a gelati (Italian ice + frozen custard). The attendant allowed me to sample different flavors before I settled on mango Italian ice with vanilla custard. My only other options were Swedish fish & cotton candy. Eeck, no thanks! The texture combo was the best part, but I wasn't a big fan of the flavor. On a side note, they could use more sturdy cups - I was afraid my thin, flimsy cup would disintegrate any minute! I really hoped I'd enjoy it more, but it was just okay. The flavors change seasonally, so maybe I'd like other choices at a different time.

Carrie S.

Yelp
I was too busy gobbling up my custard ice cream to take a picture of it! I used to go to Rita's in Los Angeles and was really disappointed when someone took over their space but while looking for soft serve ice cream I saw that there was one close to me here in Georgia! Immediately got in my car and got some ice cream and it's as delicious as always! That was my dinner the other night:-) I'll be back

Sara S.

Yelp
Places like these are a savior on a hot sunny day. Right in front of Blackburn park, this is one of my favorite places. It was very crowded on the day i visited and there was only work employee working. She was refilling the cans, taking orders, offering tastings and billing, hence line was a taking its own time to move, but she was doing all this with a smile. There are different cup sizes with a very slight price difference. I took a small and tried two flavors, mango and pinacolada. Both flavors were great and portion size is good. There is limited seating inside however outside seating is also available.

John N.

Yelp
I've always been a big ice cream fan and I would consider myself to be an ice cream connoisseur except I eat 'em ALL so lets just consider myself to be an ice cream fan. I've always been a huge fan of Rita's but I wasn't a big fan of this particular location as it was very poorly ran and managed until recently when it appears that management took over. I was politely greeted by a very nice young lady named Annie who was very helpful. She explained that this store is under new management and that the new owner is running a tight ship in this store which you will be able to tell right away if you've been to the store before and after new ownership. The store was so much cleaner and all the ice cream tasted so much better and fresh! I'm glad this store finally turned it around and is looking great! New owner, if you're reading this, Annie was a great worker and she was very helpful! You found a great employee! Thanks again and I'll certainly be back!

Shelley G.

Yelp
It's Rita's. Nothing spectacular water ice chain. My Sonshine wanted it tho so here we are.

Alyssa R.

Yelp
Nice girl working behind the counter! Root beer flavor was a little more sour than normal but still a nice treat!

Janell L.

Yelp
If you haven't tried Ritas at least once, honey you're not LIVING! Lol My fav... Swedish fish with vanilla custard on top! BAM! Never does me wrong, go ahead a try it for yourself!

Jane C.

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of this place and their custard! My favorite thing to order is the gelati. The custard is so creamy and refreshing and i the perfect combo with their Italian ice. Some of my favorite flavors include blue raspberry, peach and mango. My husband loves their green apple. Service has been amazing every time I've been here and they always offer samples. Definitely one of my favorite go to dessert spots.

Ty T.

Yelp
Perfect pit stop on an evening stroll.... Honestly, I got off work and walked in 30 mins prior to close and left happy as a lottery winner. What's better than custard and Italian ice...? Tacos, tacos are definitely better than vanilla custard and Italian ice however this review is for Rita's. Small and cute location with a walk-up window which prevents you from standing in the long lines that can form here. Now OPEN YEAR ROUND so I can enjoy this local gem anytime I want. The staff is always nice and very knowledgeable about the products and upcoming flavors. There seems to be a few new flavors every time I visit and I usually get a large Gelati which will run under $5. I enjoy this location because it right across the street from a park. I can grab my goods and lead my lady across the street for a divine snack on a nice swinging bench. I feel so high school at times while here but it's all apart of the experience. Embrace your inner teen and indulge in some Rita's

Crystal S.

Yelp
My daughter and I love coming here. She gets her chocolate custard and I get the mango and vanilla custard.

Malia K.

Yelp
This place is great after a nice date or with the kids! They have regular ice cream but you gotta have the Italian ice cream. It's smooth and there are plenty of variety to choose from. The last time I had it, I had a spin of cookies and cream. They are not stingy with the toppings at all. It was so sweet, I felt guilty finishing it but it wasn't their fault. I really wish they had more tables outside. I'm not sure why people are more worried about why they need renovations. I think it's charming in the fact that its rustic and NOT modern, that's part of the vibe.

Eric E.

Yelp
This is my younger siblings favorite place to get a treat. Took them there and was notified by the manager that they were closed and were going to reopen on April 1st. She was very kind and what made the service even more remarkable is that she went back inside and grabbed two frozen ices for my siblings! We already loved this place but I think that special touch of treating my siblings for no cost, even when they were closed shows that its a place we'll continue visiting for years!

Shonyette L.

Yelp
Their Italian ice is the bomb. If you want something that taste like cotton candy but in ice form. Then you should definitely try their cotton candy Italian ice.

Khalia S.

Yelp
I am from Philadelphia so I was so excited to find out there was a Rita's in Georgia! I do not live close by but I was willing to drive far for the taste of my childhood! We arrived a little before 8PM, over one our before closing. Their doors were locked but there were still customers inside so I was very confused. This was until a family who was sitting outside notified us that they locked their doors and will be doing "window service". This was fine by me since most of the locations I used to frequent did not have an inside anyway. However, some sort of sign or notification would have been appreciated. Luckily we were first in line for the window but after we received our order the line was out to the street, so there was not much room to form a line at the window. Typically in Philadelphia the tradition is to get a water ice and pretzel from Rita's but this location did not have pretzels which was rather disappointing. To my knowledge this was part of Rita's service. Other than that the water ice itself was just as I remembered! My favorite flavors are the cherry and mango!

Maya T.

Yelp
Amazing service! The girls working there carlie, Claire, and ella were pure angels. Will be coming back.

Jordan R.

Yelp
Rita's has been one of my family's favorite summer treat spots for years! The variety of shaved Italian ice flavors are great on their own, or pair well with either vanilla or chocolate custard, which is also hits the spot on scorching days on its own. Compared to other frozen dessert places, Rita's has similar pricing to Bruster's and is definitely cheaper than cold stone. Like all other locations the Brookhaven store is perfectly sized, always clean, has friendly and helpful staff and they even have a walk up window to make visits go as quickly and smoothly as possible. My only issue is that I wish they would open more locations in GA, but in the mean time their catering service is very reliable and perfect for parties.

Safia A.

Yelp
I think that Rita's are disappearing throughout Atlanta... But this one is still going strong. Strawberries and cream = vanilla and swedish fish gelati! But I did half mango, half swedish fish. It was great!

Steve S.

Yelp
Normally I love Rita's. First time I ever saw a place with it's doors locked and a room empty and patrons had to sit outside to be eaten by mosquitos so their staff can clean the floors and be comfortable in a air conditioned environment with no access to rest room or sink to wash hands. Seems very counter intuitive to me. Why have a store that doesn't allow people to sit inside? Where is the priority, the customer or the employees cleaning up and getting out of there by 9pm?

Asha R.

Yelp
Despite the rain, it's the first day of spring and the taste of Rita's brings back childhood memories. I was glad to see that they had expanded into the south. There aren't many locations in the Atlanta area but this is closest to me. This is a walk-in location. It's small inside with just one table. But they also have some covered seating outside as well. I got a gelati with smores water ice and the twist custard. The smores flavor was spot on and the mini chocolate chips was a nice touch. If you enjoy smores, this is definitely a nice refreshing treat.

Scott D.

Yelp
As always great Italian Ice. The staff was happy to let us try the new flavors, but on the 4th of July I had to do the red white and blue.

Jenny T.

Yelp
I went for the first time and it was delicious! Their Italian ice is the perfect blend of soft, smooth, and icy. There were no big chunks of ice. We got the gelati (Italian ice topped with frozen custard at the top and bottom) and it was great! If you didn't know, custard is essentially ice cream with egg yolk, which makes it smoother and creamier than regular soft serve. I loved that the custard wasn't as sweet as normal vanilla soft serve ice cream, and it was much creamier. It was a good addition to the Italian ice and complimented it very well. As for the Italian ice part, we got half cotton candy and half sugar-free dragon fruit. I LOVED the sugar-free dragon fruit. It tasted like regular Italian shaved ice and did not have an artificial sweetener flavor. It's also only 90 calories so there's no guilt. The cotton candy was pretty good, not my #1 pick but perfect if that's the kind of flavor you enjoy. Overall, I highly recommend trying this place!
