The Gayest Dish on the Menu, According to 10 Queer-Owned Restaurants | Eater

"A playful, colorful cocktail called One of Your Girls is a signature here: a lavender-hued drink with edible glitter, an IYKYK nod to a Troye Sivan song, and made with Supergay Vodka. It’s designed to be easy to drink, eye-catching, and fun — part pop-culture wink, part celebratory sip." - Jaya Saxena

Nice small casual place. Pretty decent bar with a good selection of cocktails, I had the fish tacos which were good, my wife had the pierogies which she really liked, curly curly fries as a side were tasty and cooked well. The cocktails were also quite good. The staff were friendly and fast, the restaurant and bathrooms clean. It got quite busy around 5:30.

Google
Definitely worthy of the high ratings! This place is a gem. The service was so warm and welcoming. We were celebrating a birthday and they picked up on it right away, making the evening extra special. The food was served hot and delicious. I practically licked my plate clean (the salmon) and the French fries were "bussin'" according to the tween at the table. This is a fun (games!), casual but vibe-y spot. Definitely pay them a visit!!

I will be thinking about these chicken tenders for a long time! They were perfectly crispy on the outside and sauced to absolute perfection. Whatever you do, get the Carolina BBQ--it was incredible!! We also got the biggest helping I've ever seen of curly fries as a side to our burger and some of the best beer cheese we've had with our soft pretzel. Our servers were super kind and attentive and we had a nice chat with the owner Max who was making the rounds to some of the tables. All around, this was a great dining experience and we highly recommend!

Google
Take out, so that speaks for itself. Onion rings at the bar waiting for our food were some of if not the best. I had the hot dog entrée and it was one of the best I can remember. The hot dog flavor wasn't overpowered by the melted cheese and onion crisps, bun held up to the end. Truffle fries were really good, again the takeout situation wasn't a great representation. Bartender was helpful and personable and had a great sense of humor. We will definitely be back for a dine in experience

We went here last night and we had the absolute best experience. The vibes were great and the food was delicious. Portions were so generous I ended up taking half my burger home. This place could get 5-stars solely on how well said burger heated up this morning 😂

Google
The food and the drinks were delicious! they have a fun drink and food menu. We had a hard time deciding what we wanted because everything sounded so good. We got the Private dancer cocktail and it was super tasty. We decided on the Kickin Chicken sandwich but made it buffalo and the Mini Mac. perfectly cooked and large portions!

Google
The food was good. I got the return of the Mac burger or whatever it's called. It tasted like a big Mac but much better. Tater tots were good but kind of soggy. The wait times were horrendous, though. Ordered the food at 530, it was ready at 645. I would eat here more often if the wait was shorter. 3 stars. Edit: thanks for replying, this was takeout and it was on a Friday back in mid February 2025

Google
We absolutely love visiting Ritcey East! It’s a true neighborhood spot that cares about serving the community. The food is always delicious with generous portions. On a recent visit we tried a salad (that was delicious) and asked for no beets, the owner came out and nicely asked if we wanted them to substitute with another vegetable. These small gestures are what make restaurants like this so special. Thank you Ritcey East and staff for making our neighborhood a little more wonderful!

Yelp
After living near Ritcey East for a few months, I regret not visiting sooner!! Our first impression was positive when we walked in and saw the table in the entryway with games, treats and cute decor. We were quickly seated on a Saturday at 6:30 and our waiter brought our water in an instant. We started with fried pickle chips to share as an appetizer - some of the best I've had! They were light and crunchy, without the greasy coating I often expect. They were paired with a tasty sauce, maybe a chipotle ranch?? 10/10 & there were a ton of them! Speaking of serving sizes, the portions are HUGE and very impressive for the cost. My partner and I both got burgers, I got the justice beaver and he got the mini mac. I did like the mini mac more, as it was slightly less greasy and it really did taste like a Big Mac. I will probably order it next time! Paired w the burgers were MOUNTAINS of fries (and tater tots, not pictured). We had more than half to take home with us to enjoy at a later time. For $16 for a huge serving of tasty burger and fries, I can't complain. The vibes were nice and the waiter had a cool, fun, welcoming personality. It was a bit noisy, we had to speak a little louder than usual, so if you're sensitive to sounds keep that in mind. Otherwise, positively check out this Watertown gem the next chance you get! :)

Yelp
Great food and service. Never had a disappointing meal here. Very generous portions.

Yelp
Yep, this is a hidden gem. From the moment you walk in you feel at home...greeted by many smiling faces, and warm hellos. Started off with the empanadas. They had a great flavor with just the right amount of crunch. The creama it came with was really good too. I also ordered the fire starter mac n cheese. That chicken on top was delicious! The hot honey buffalo sauce was so good. The Doritos on top added a nice texture too. It was spicy but it was doable...and this is coming from someone who doesn't do well with spice! We ended with the bread pudding "churros" and WOW. If you come here and don't order this dessert you're missing out. This was one of the best desserts I've had. Everything down to the homemade chocolate sauce was perfection. The portions here are generous and I left feeling stuffed. Our waiter was kind and very attentive. The vibes here are also just fantastic, and I love the attention to detail throughout. They even have board games available for you to use! Being at this cozy place with good eats on a frigid New England night was just what I needed.

Yelp
I am impressed with how good their food is every single time. Their menu is on the smaller side but the choices pack a punch. They have a fun rotating cocktail menu. All of their appetizers have been incredible, the pierogis, the pretzel, the empanadas. I have tried a handful of entrees but my go-tos are the caesar salad, the kickin chicken with ranch, or their mini mac burger. They can also make their chicken sandwich vegetarian with their vegan tenders. I personally get their curly fries as my side every single time but their tots are also delicious!
google avatar

Rob H.

Yelp
I ordered the mac and cheese and added buffalo tenders. Thankfully, I arrived very hungry as the mac and cheese portion is huge on its own, but it was also topped with a giant portion of buffalo chicken. They used cavatappi for the pasta, which holds the delicious cheese sauce very well. The chicken had the perfect amount of kick. I felt like I ate two pounds of food, and was able to take home what was still a larger portion than many places give you to start. The cocktails were creative and very good. The staff was very friendly. I live less than a mile away, and will definitely be back.

Yelp
Amazing comfort food. My kiddo loved the dino nuggets and my return of the mac was perfect. You can get your fries animal style too which really won me over. We will definitey be back and I can't wait to try more!

Elaine G.

Yelp
I visited Ritcey's tonight for a snack and a fun drink. Service was great. Interesting take on deviled eggs was delicious. And the best part was the mocktail specially made for me by the delightful bartender. Love it!

Julia J.

Yelp
DO NOT order the mac and cheese. i've had cafeteria food better. no cheese taste, artificially yellow, and the cheese congealed and looked rubbery after 5 mins on the table. absolutely disgusting. there was food thrown all over the floor by children that the staff took 30 minutes to clean up with a half empty restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
Fried pickles were probably the best I've ever had. Quality pickles and perfectly fried. The dipping sauce was mostly mayo so I didn't use it. They could probably revamp that a bit to something more like a tangy relish dip. But the pickles were tasty and plentiful. The mini Mac is their take on McDonald's Big Mac. It's only a 4 Oz burger. I might have missed the full sized version but didn't see it on the menu. I would have loved a bigger burger. They did absolutely nail the flavor though. I just wish it was more. There was a choice of sides and I went with onion rings. Those were so good. I couldn't finish though. You can see how high they're piled in the picture. I would have preferred half the portion of onion rings in favor of a full sized burger. Everything was really good though. I was so surprised by the quality of the food. The onion rings were golden and not too much batter. Overall this place was a very pleasant surprise. The Mini Mac was definitely spot on in terms of flavor. It's a bit more upscale than its fast food namesake. Decent prices. Quality food. Friendly staff. This place is worth a visit.

Yelp
We're long time goers to this neighborhood gem and it's always delicious. Last night was no exception. I queried if they could try to make a spicy mockarita for me. They did! It was so good, not a cup of juice with fruit floating in it. No sir, a serious mocktail! And, the shrimp and grits were divine!!! Divine, I tell you, there was a halo around the bowl!! My wife repeated her favorite with the Kickin' Chicken and tots for days. It pleased her to no end! Definitely a place to go!! (Sorry, I dug in so no photos!)
google avatar

Erica L.

Yelp
Love Ritcey! It is such a cute, fun and delicious restaurant! Their Mac and cheese and the Mini Mac burgers are amazing. You can even get half tater tot's and half onion rings (or fries, etc.) as a side. Their drink menu is also great. Every time I've come here, the servers are kind and helpful. I definitely recommend checking it out!
google avatar

Yelp
Homey, casual neighborhood bar with good cocktails and comfort food. Seems like a local haunt. Street parking nearby was easy on a weekday night and we were seated quickly. We got the fried pickles, fish tacos, and empanadas . The fish tacos were tasty - freshly fried haddock with a light batter that was well balanced with the citrus slaw. The fried pickles were generous, but I wish the aioli had a bit more flavor. I felt similarly about the empanadas, wished the sauce had more oomph. I tried a Yuzu cocktail that was well mixed and not too sweet. Service was attentive and friendly. I'd return for the tacos and a drink when I'm in the area again.

Yelp
The mini Mac was fire and the portions are huge. Will def go back to try the other food menu items.

Yelp
This a wonderful place. I love how there are so many vegan and vegetarian options on the menu. Max always is coming up with new fun dishes. Also the drinks are amazing and my favorite is the "this is why we can't have nice things".

Doug H.

Yelp
Such a delight to have Ritcey's in the neighborhood. Food and drinks are awesome! Staff are so friendly, and helpful. Max and Chelsea and company are awesome .

Yelp
Oh come on! Love love love this place. When I read they were in trouble-My husband and I immediately went for lunch. We did give to make sure they would stay before we even went that day for lunch and upon perusing the menu I realize there's a lot more gluten-free options that I had known- new favorite place to go with a mini Mac that I can eat!! I always tell myself that I will not get the tater tot's, and then I forget all about that promise ! I bring home the left overs and eat them for a couple of days. It's a problem... but, no self will. I love Ritceys and am thrilled Max will be staying. I have so many more things to try... you CAN NOT LEAVE. PLEASE!!!! We are so happy to have you here. Thank you!

Katie H.

Yelp
First time here and everything was AMAZING! Really great food, kind and efficient staff, great atmosphere. Will definitely be going back soon!
google avatar

Cindy H.

Yelp
I had a great time here trying the Mini Mac and wings. I wasn't a huge fan of their fries, tater tots, or onion rings (they were definitely made in house but lacking crispness) but the burger was tasty and the wings were awesome. I think the burger wasn't right off the grill as it was only lukewarm but it really hit the spot. I did not expect such delicious wings but they were seriously some of the best I've had in the state and this is coming from a buffalo wing connoisseur. Service was stupendous and the atmosphere was so welcoming. I will be back!

Safoura R.

Yelp
Certainly a neighborhood gem !! Great attitude, I love the place !! Upbeat, great drinks, fantastic buffalo shrimp and spinach salad .
google avatar

Yelp
Fast takeout on a snowy night. Everything was fresh, hot, and with indulgent, on-point flavors. And more than enough food for two people! -Mac & cheese with garlic bread crumbs -beet & spinach salad with blue cheese and a sweet and tangy vinaigrette -side of tots Been meaning to give this business my money for a while now! 10/10 would recommend

Jessica S.

Yelp
My partner and I tried this place Saturday night and it was great! Fast and friendly service, reasonable prices for good portions, good food. I especially liked the soft pretzels with beer cheese and the brussel sprout caesar salad. I had thought I wasn't a big fan of soft pretzels, but it turns out I just hadn't had good ones - Ritcey East converted me. My partner loved the empanadas and fried chicken sandwich. We'll definitely go again.

Daniel A.

Yelp
Great local establishment! This place deserves all the flowers . From the decor to the millennial friendly painted windows on the outside you can't go wrong with this restaurant. Only critique I wish they had some sound buffers on the ceiling to minimize noise when the restaurant gets crowded but that's probably a personal preference and don't hold it against the restaurant in anyway Keep on slaying y'all.
google avatar

Ada J.

Yelp
First time in this place and I LOVE IT! I love the food, the ambiance, the service, they are really friendly and yes! I really recommend this magic place.
google avatar

Karsten G.

Yelp
I've driven by multiple times and there always seemed to be a line of people waiting to pick up their food. Gave them a try and understand why! Fried pickles: the portion was very generous. The pickles tasted great and the dipping sauce was everything. Airstream Salmon: again great portions for price. Salmon and cous cous were great. Loved the feta. Made for a great combo

Yelp
I have no idea why it's taken me over a year to write this review, but my boyfriend and I live on the same street at Ritcey East and it has quickly become our favorite restaurant in Boston. Not only are the drinks and food fabulous (if you don't get the mac n cheese you are missing out), but the owners are rare gems. You can tell by their eclectic, creative specials that Michaela just has a passion food and what she does. And Chelsea never fails to greet us with a bright smile every time she sees us. We love this place so much we brought our best friends here, and now they get takeout on their own (and don't even invite us to join). During the pandemic, this is one of the only places I feel comfortable ordering from because I've followed Chelsea and Michaela's journey on social media and I know how much effort they have put into keeping their staff and customers safe, and not putting profit before safety is something you don't always find in establishments. Support small businesses and order from Ritcey East! You won't regret it.

Mia L.

Yelp
Always delicious eats and friendly service! Don't skip the onion rings! Drinks are also creative and rotate with enough frequency to keep things fresh!

X X.

Yelp
Great service! Great food! Great cocktails! Great wine! Great vibe! My only wish is that on the nights when I don't want something fried/rich, that there would be an option for me. I think if they expanded on their vegetable options and/or salads, it would be a perfect place! Their brussel sprouts caesar is great. I'm just imagining how creative their take on salads would be.

Tony R.

Yelp
Very friendly place, greeted warmly, family friendly. It's a gem. Loved it. Great chicken sandwich, games for the kid. It was a great dinner.
google avatar

Katie Lee S.

Yelp
Omg. This place is just SO GOOD. We are SO happy every single time we come. It's always a good decision! The service is incredible - very kid friendly and accommodating. The food is FANTASTIC. I am gluten free and I always feel really safe eating here. Two thumbs up!!!

Emily D.

Yelp
Cute little spot with a thoughtful cocktail list and creative salads and sammies, can't wait to go back and try their outdoor seating in the Summer!

Doug H.

Yelp
What a gem! Great food . Amazing staff. Max Ritcey has created such a warm and friendly space. We are there last night . The food and drinks were incredible. Portions were huge. Great place to hang at the bar. Bring your friends ! Bring your family ! Can't say enough wonderful things about our dinner last night!!!!!!

Yelp
I tried Ritcey East last weekend with a friend. Instantly we both commented on the vibe of the restaurant, staff and customers all seemed to be in such a great mood. I had a Blank Space cocktail that was delicious and my friend was able to try a few different craft beers he hadn't been able to find other places. For an appetizer we split the bourbon wings and we finished them before I could get a chance to take a picture. So tasty! For dinner I had the Kickin' Chicken sandwich with some of the best onion rings I've ever had. My friend had the steak tips with the house sauce, and nothing was left on either place. The food was delicious, the drinks were creative and fun, and the atmosphere is exactly what we wanted for a fun low key dinner. We will both be back for sure!

Jack R.

Yelp
Great food beer and service Thank you to the great bar and wait staff that helped me clean my spill up lol

Yelp
So the atmosphere and ambiance of this was place was very cool and chill. I came here with my lady's parents and enjoyed one of the best fish fry's I have had since high school when I cooked my own in culinary class haha. But anyways, y'all know I had to get me some hot water because hot water is really great for your body especially after a long day, really calm and relaxes you. Ended up going with the fish fry because I'm fasting and part of my fast is not eating any beef, pork, or chicken. But huntteeyyyyy let me tell y'all...baby that fish was cooked to a tee, them onion rings were not beer battered and that is the best way to enjoy them, and peep this.....I don't even like tarter sauce but sonnnnnn this tarter here at this restaurant....I just had to see it through my boy and I am glad I did because that was the best tarter sauce I have had in my life ‼‼‼ Overall this restaurant was really good and if I ever come back to Boston I definitely will come here again.

Karen S.

Yelp
Very good food, interesting menu. Great friendly service. Fun decor. Easy street parking.

Jim M.

Yelp
The staff is ALWAYS amazing. The food is always good and we love trying the craft cocktails they create.

Yelp
I always drive through Waverly Ave to drive to my girlfriend's. When i saw this place on the corner of my eye, i knew i wanted to try it out. As i started to read early reviews, it made me want to try it even more. Finally, i was able to convince my gf to come here for dinner. We shared the pretzel bites. At 1st i was expecting a huge german pretzel. But you know what, these thick pretzel fingers are even better because they're more group friendly. Was a big fan of both dipping sauces (cheese and mustard). The kickin chicken sandwich was delish. It was crispy and juicy, tho i wanted more heat. The special shrimp and grits were good but not great. I had better down in NOLA. They have great cocktail, beer, and wine selections. We stuck to wine. The server was friendly and helpful with our choices. Def willing to come back for more food and drinks.

Yelp
This place was great! Excellent cocktails and good sophisticated bar food. But also things our kids would like. Plan to go back soon!

Yelp
We love takeout and dining out at Ritcey East. The food and drinks are awesome and the staff creates a welcoming atmosphere. For a recent writing assignment for school, my 9 year old chose Ritcey East to write a yelp review and she says it best: "I am giving a 5 star review to Ritcey East. The food is really good and it comes quickly and warm (unless it's not supposed to be warm). My favorite meal is mac and cheese with doritos. The tacos come in a toy taco truck. The drinks are also really good. The bathrooms are clean. Once when I went on halloween they had a bowl of vampire teeth and candy. The people that work there are really nice. Since i've been there so many times they come over to my table and say hi. There is an outdoor patio that I really like. One thing that I like about the outdoor patio is that there are heat lamps. There are lights wrapped around the umbrellas that they turn on when it gets darker. The outdoor patio is also very colorful. I definitely recommend going to Ritcey East!!"
google avatar

Kiki K.

Yelp
And even in the grips of a debilitating pandemic Ritcey East is still amazing. We were DYING for fish and chips... you can only be so healthy!! I was concerned that by the time we got them home they would be limp and greasy. NO! Crisp and delicious. I cannot WAIT to sit at that bar again and kill a few hours eating and spending time with the charming staff. You guys rule.
google avatar

Perri V.

Yelp
I've only gotten takeout, but I totally love this place. First of all, it's queer owned, which sold me from the beginning. Second of all, they make some of the best burgers I've ever had. I've had several different burger iterations and I really love the Mini Mac, as well as the Justice Beaver. They're whole menu is really fun and homey and I'm sad that COVID has prevented me from eating at the restaurant because I can tell it would be a wonderful experience. Top it all off with some excellent customer service, and you've got a winner. Go to Ritcey East. You won't regret it.

Yelp
Moved nearby in June and have been here almost weekly! Great drinks and the food is really tasty. Glad to have this place nearby and would recommend!
google avatar

J.L. P.

Yelp
Between the two of us, one had a very positive experience while the other did not. My friend ordered a burger with an egg on top, with a salad in place of fries. 1) The burger was well-done. 2) The egg was not ooey-gooey as expected, it was very well done and the entire meal was rendered dry. 3) She did not enjoy the salad-- although for no specific reason. I, however, enjoyed my medium-rare burger. The fries came out warm, the burger and toppings were delicious. I had no complaints whatsoever. Additionally, they have a drink with beets and named it "Assistant to the Regional Manager," any any restaurant that can pay tribute to The Office is solid in my book. This place had a cool vibe-- lots of people, families, groups, no demographic in particular. Street parking, which isn't unusual for the area. That all being said, due to one poor experience, yet one positive, I only give this place a 3 star.

Julia C.

Yelp
Yummy comfort Food! Friendly service and large portions ". We loved everything- onion rings, Caesar Brussels sprouts, mini Mac burger, Mac and cheese. All wonderful! Can't wait to go back!!
google avatar

Danielle P.

Yelp
I just went here last night and had a kickass burger (Justice Beaver) and brussel sprout Caesar salad?! As a chef, I I never know what to expect with a brussel sprout salad especially if I think it's a raw slaw. It was perfect. I am typing this right now as I'm sitting at my breakfast table eating the leftovers and wanting more. Service was great, ambience great, owner was chatting us up on the way out of the door-charming and excited and rightfully so-Ritcey East is an awesome neighborhood spot-just go!
google avatar

Andrew K.

Yelp
Friend and I got fish tacos and Mac and cheese both uneventful with no amazing flavors. Drinks although good seem a little steep at 13$ a pop. I give it that extra star for atmosphere with plants everywhere .

Kyra B.

Yelp
Their fish tacos are to die for. Incredibly good fried pickles too. Their drinks are fun and taste good. Service is efficient and attentive. It's a small dining area so you may have to wait a bit if they're busy, but it is absolutely worth it. I've gone several times and even taken family from out of town!
google avatar

Jay Won B.

Yelp
Second time here! Did not disappoint! The staff is always friendly and welcoming which is a huge plus!! The vibe and ambience is perfect for a date night or dinner with friends and family. They have a great choice of beers. Now let's get to the food! And wow! They sure know how to make a chicken sandwich!!! The kickin chicken is my favorite thing on the menu! It is crispy and moist with the right amount of spice! Really tasty fries! All I can say is man! they make a good chicken sandwich. Pro tip! Parking can be hard to find so don't be afraid to walk if it's busy! If you know Watertown you know what I'm talking about! Also get and try the pulled pork sandwich along with the kickin chicken. Eat half and share the other! Overall this place is worth the visit if you want something different then the usually spots in and around Boston! Go visit!
