Yelp
Came here for the first time for dinner on a Friday. Ordered the Manhattan clam chowder as an appetizer, their Florentine omelette with wheat toast, and their strawberry shortcake dessert. My friend ordered a side of coleslaw, their fish sandwich with mac n cheese, and a slice of their apple pie for dessert.
What's Hot
- Price. Total came out to under $30 for 2 people. Not a bad bargain. Most of their menu items are under $10, which is affordable.
- Layout. There are plenty of booths that can seat 2-4 people and they have a counter. Convenient and helpful. Looks like they're ready for people in a rush and for people who are going to take more time.
- Parking. There's a small parking lot behind the store that can hold 5-6 cars. There's another parking lot between the post office and the apartment building on the block next to the diner, as well. That there is parking available is pretty helpful!
- Menu. Breakfast served all day. I love breakfast, so that I can have breakfast for dinner is definitely a winner. There's something for everyone- kids menu, soups, meats, veggies, fish, and desserts. My friend was observing Lent, so he couldn't eat meat. Thankfully, this place had plenty of accommodations in the menu.
- Service. Aside from what I address below, their service is dependable and helpful. Our waitress answered our questions regarding the desserts available, refilled my friend's coffee when needed, and came over when we flagged her down. Their hours are very convenient, as well! They're open early and late on the weekdays and 24 hrs on the weekends.
- Quality. The hash browns that came with my omelette were pretty good. Kinda crunchy exterior and soft on the inside. The strawberry shortcake was pretty good, too and came with some strawberries on the side. Not fresh strawberries, though. My friend's apple pie was soft, but didn't look like it was made by the diner. It's not the best food I've ever had and the flavor doesn't stand out. Flavor of their food is decent and dependable (ie: you always know what you're getting).
What's Not
- Quality. It's not bad, but I've had better. For example, my omelette was kinda tough. It wasn't soft and fluffy. The cheese wasn't spread throughout the entire omelette. It looks like they put a piece of sliced provolone cheese in my omelette, rather than spreading shredded cheese throughout the entire omelette. The mushrooms in my omelette were also canned mushrooms, instead of fresh mushrooms. The Manhattan clam chowder was watery and not very flavorful. In other words, the flavor of the food isn't the best.
- Service. It's kind of self-serve. When I arrived, I was able to pick out a booth. However, none of the staff offered me any menus. I had to go to the front and ask for menus. It looks like you may need to fend for yourself when you first get there. I saw other customers come in and kind of do the same, which gives me the impression that this place is geared towards the locals (ie: customers who have been here before and know how they operate). Not necessarily a bad thing, but be prepared if you're a newbie. Their staff don't check in on you unless you flag them down. They also leave you alone once they give you the check. I prefer places where their staff check in on you and will still refill your water while you're still socializing. That's just me.
- Hot sauce. They have sauce, but it's very weak and not very spicy. I don't remember the brand, but it looks like they only carry 1 brand of hot sauce, too. I love spicy foods, so just be aware that if you're a fan, you won't get satisfied here.
Final Answer
Willing to come back, but not the top of my list.
