Eater Portland’s Most-Read Stories of 2023 | Eater Portland

"When the development that includes Portland’s new Ritz‑Carlton displaced the Alder Street Food Carts, developers said they would dedicate roughly 8,000 square feet to a food hall; in April they announced a lineup that included Portland names like Birrieria La Plaza, Kim Jong Grillin, and Sun Rice, but I noted it was unclear whether the food hall would actually open as expected and we reached out to the development team for an update." - Eater Staff

Absolutely our favorite place to stay in Portland! The attention to detail is impeccable. The staff is so courteous and went out of their way to make our stay amazing. The bed was so comfortable. The room was nicely done. The best part was our view of Mt. Hood from our room.

A beautiful property. Gives me Ritz in LA live but better . Hands down one of the best club lounges I've ever been too via a Ritz property.

We spent the weekend downtown at another hotel and had heard about the bar at the Ritz so decided to check it out on July 4. I didn't realize they had a bar on the 20th floor but only thought they had one on the first floor. When you walk in there is an express elevator that takes you to the 20th floor. The bar area is right next to the restaurant but no kids allowed in the bar so get off the elevator and take a right and the restrooms are to the left of the elevator. The bar area is super nice with a large bar and tables along the windows which I think you need to check in at the host station. The first night we went, there was three people behind the bar but only one bartender so the drinks took a while to come. I had the "My man Dan" and my lady had a dirty martini the first time and we also ordered some food from the bar menu, the chicken wings (hard pass...$18 bucks for like 5 overly breaded wings) and something else that was unremarkable that I cannot remember. I'd say, skip the bar food as wings are wings and these places try to fancy them up, just give me some wings. Just remembered, it was the $18 truffle fries...another skip for me but my lady loved them since she ordered them when we went back. Drinks and atmosphere was nice since it was not super packed (less a-holes) which I love and I honestly hope it stays that way so don't tell anyone. The second time we went back with my dad and sat along the seats at the window looking north as the sun set. Had a beer this time, my dad had the Man Dan and my lady with the dirt martini again and we ordered the Wagyu tartar (main menu), the fries and something that came inside a bone (main menu). The apps were good but if you looking to get full, maybe try the main menu which I will the next time I go back. I love a good high up bar and this one fits the bill nicely so will definitely be going back until the word gets out. Oh, and they have an outside area you can go out on the balcony which is where most of the pics come from. Friendly staff also which is a plus.

We had the pleasure of having a private tour of the new Ritz-Carlton Residenteces, the crown jewel of Downtown Portland. Floor to ceiling windows & understated luxury... the each unit has everything you could want for city living. Each unit boasts a in suite washer/dryer, private bathroom room attached to each bedroom & a powder room for guests. My personal favorite was the 3 bedroom... I love the extra onclave next to the laundry room, which would be great for storage or an office.

Had a great experience in my first excursion to the Ritz. I was greeted by Brandon and Don who work with Ace parking at the entrance of the hotel. They get five stars for going out of their way to make me feel welcome on my way in and later on my way out. The hotel staff was amazing as well as the beautiful, physical space that brings nature in and amplifies what I love about living in the Northwest. Views from the restaurant were stunning. If you have a chance stop in and explore this new hotel.

Friendly & attentive concierges. Inattentive bartenders at the lower bar. Good bar service at the upper bar by the restaurant. Drink selections were markedly more expensive & limited in options than other nearby establishments. Service in general was slow especially for a RC property. The hotel suite was fine, but about half the size of the suites we’ve enjoyed at other RC properties. I put the fault for poor service on a lack of effective management training.

I have been on the 67th floor in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Five stars for the architecture. I really liked how the architect(s) designed part of the lower floors to compliment the design of the surrounding buildings. I was able to take a look into the lobby and saw a huge fireplace. I honestly felt intimidated to go inside because of my attire, so I did not. No doubt the clientele I viewed was from the higher-income bracket. The building is very impressive, to say the least, and quite a nice addition to the downtown area.
