3 Best Day Trips from Atlanta

"River Gallery is a perfect starting point to explore the Bluff View Art District, a historic walkable area with restaurants, a coffee house, and a charming bed & breakfast. River Gallery and Bluff View are rarely overrun with people, so you’re in the clear if you don’t want to fight crowds. The whole district’s vibe is historic, elegant and quaint. In River Gallery, the rooms are curated according to style or theme, with unobtrusive lights to showcase the art, and the whole gallery still feels like a home. Blown glass pieces hang in front of windows to catch sunlight streaming in, and there’s enough variety in price points that even entry-level collectors can find something in their budget." - Jennifer Bradley Franklin

Very cool gallery! Usually I just enjoy walking around galleries filled with various items I’d never purchase even if I had such a disposable income. But they have some items here I could absolutely see myself purchasing that don’t even break the bank! A great concept.

I go through galleries, have been through collections of art for sale all over Northern Italy, and this gallery is one of the best. It features work of the best artists of the southeastern area of the US. The artists and guides are truly friendly! The gallery has major works of contemporary potters, painters, glassmakers, wonderful pieces on display that are accessible and priced within reason. It is a big collection intelligently curated. Be prepared to spend some time in this superior gallery.

Beautiful Gallery with many works of art for sale. We enjoyed the gardens and the Bliff view area as a whole. The apricot cookies were delicious at the coffee shop.

Lots of beautiful and freely accessible art. Close to a lovely area of town. But be aware that it can be very hot, as there is little shade to utilize. Also it's a rather noisey place, too, as it's right along a busy road/bridge. It would probably be pleasant in the evening--but check their hours.

We stumbled upon the sculpture garden by accident, and it was one of the highlights of our day. The garden is thoughtfully designed, and there is an interesting variety of sculptures, some by well-known artists. This should definitely be a targeted destination on a nice day in Chattanooga.

Visited the River Gallery with my wife during a vacation. It was amazing, probably the highlight of the trip for me. I usually think of art galleries as snobby and like I need to seem like I know stuff about art to fit in, but it was a very welcoming place. The lady who welcomed us in was extremely kind and helpful. I'm very interested in pottery and loved getting to see the handmade work there. The artists' work is fantastic and we left with 2 pieces, a mug and a dish, to take home to draw inspiration from. Great gallery, highly highly recommend.

10 gallery rooms of various art mediums. The space is bigger than you would think! Free admission. Pieces from $5 (postcards) to $45,000 sculptures. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Would recommend. New pieces weekly

Today, was the first day I have went to River Gallery since last Christmas holiday. My spouse and a friend also accompanied me. We were greeted by a young man, who was polite and nice. As we browsed through the gallery, the owner, who was sitting at her desk in her office, never even looked up at us. The granddaughter of the owner, who was in another office as we passed by, just smiled, but never got out of her sit either. The previous manager, Angie, brought life to this gallery. She also greeted us, knew us by name and hugged us when ever we seen her at the gallery or in public. Among the 3 of us, we have spent at least $10,000 at River Gallery in the past 5 years. River Gallery Owners and management, you both have really dropped the “customer ball.” By the looks of your empty gallery of customers this afternoon, I’m sure we are not the only ones put-off by your lackadaisical customer response. All three of us asserted, while leaving River Gallery, it will be a long time before we’ll be back.

Yelp
We were in the area and my wife had been here before and wanted to take me. We actually didn't go into the gallery itself, but did look at the River Gallery Sculpture Garden. River Gallery Sculpture Garden located in the beautiful Bluff View Art District opened its Gates of Seven Bridges May 1993. The garden was designed by landscape architect Joe Baasch and is located on a two-acre outdoor space. Overlooking the beautiful Tennessee River, the garden features a formal garden, meditation area, and an informal garden with a recycling mountain stream. This fun little adventure shows off pieces that are permanent as well as items that are showcased and swapped out. If you want to visit the actual gallery here are some details: HOURS: 10AM - 5PM MON-SAT, 1-5PM SUN, AND BY APPOINTMENT call or text 423.682.1287 FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC Also, they include some cool info on the webpage about upcoming exhibitions. For example, here is the January/February 2021 exhibit: January - February 2021 Exhibit Please click on the image to view the exhibit with artists Dennis Heckler, Debra Nadelhoffer, and Conor O'Brien. Worth a stop, especially on a nice fall or spring day.

Yelp
Visited this wonderful art gallery with my girlfriend today. We were greeted warmly by the staff, who took time to explained details of the artist exhibita on display and also the history of the gallery. The gallery is very intimate but full of beautiful art work by multiple artist. If you are visiting chattanooga tn, make sure you treat yourself and visit the art district and particularly the river gallery.

Yelp
I love walking through small art galleries that are filled with local and regional artist creations. In Chattanooga, the River Gallery houses ceramics, paintings, glass, and jewelry amongst other unique pieces. The gallery prices range from $20 to $2000. It just depends on what you're looking for and your budget.

Yelp
I'm a young professional, so I'm not in the financial space where I'm shopping for art. However, when I was visiting my mom in Chattanooga a couple of weeks ago, we decided to stop in at the River Gallery when we were exploring the Bluff View Arts District. I fell IN LOVE with a pair of earrings and just had to take them with me. The River Gallery has some pottery and ceramics, some paintings, some sculpture, some jewelry, some more kitschy art items...it has a little bit of everything. It's definitely worth a walk through if you're in Bluff View. You never know what you'll find!

Yelp
My sister and I came to the art district to visit the Houston Museum but to our dismay it was closed until after New Years. We decided to check out the River Gallery instead. Boy were we glad. It is adorable inside and out. At first it seemed like we would be very out of place because its super classy but the staff made us feel so welcomed and weren't snobbish at all. The pricing was very out of our league but is was just so mesmerized that we just kept looking anyways. It has 10 rooms and when you think you have went in a direction far enough there wouldl be another hallway and more rooms. It was like wondering through the most delightful maze ever. The types of art had such a broad range that I'm confident anyone can find something to their liking here.

Yelp
I patiently waited a month for a ring I put a $161 deposit down on 1/9/17 to be resized. The ring was a Christmas gift from my boyfriend so it was a special purchase. We were told by Angie that the ring resize would take only 2 weeks. It took 4 weeks. When I received the ring in the mail last week it was very damaged. One of the stones was chipped, the face of the sterling was scratched and dented as if someone had done a very bad job of refinishing the silver, the insets for the jewels were jagged and part of the ring had a shaved mark on it. You can imagine my shock and dismay after waiting a month but I had faith that the problem could be resolved. I sent River Gallery pictures of the damaged ring via email right after receiving it. When I called to talk to Angie about the damaged condition of the ring I was told "she is busy and will try and call you back tomorrow." What made the situation even worse were the liberties they took with charging our credit card. I was told by Angie that the second half of the ring would not be charged until I had received and confirmed that the ring fit. They charged the card the additional $161 the day I got the ring in the mail, before I even opened the box. They also charged us an additional $12, actually charged us for shipping twice. So far we have paid $35 in shipping to ship this ring 3 times. That's a lot considering this is a damaged ring. To add insult to injury when Angie finally got around to calling me days later she hung up on me, and another associate hung up on my boyfriend. We sent the ring back for a refund, which they received yesterday, still have yet to hear of the credit we were told we were getting. Angie says the $35 in shipping charges were "real charges" and she has no intention of refunding us anything for the 3 times the ring was shipped. In total we spent about $355 for a ring that I wish I never laid eyes on. I am very confused about what happened here, why the ring took a month to get to us, why it was damaged when it got here, why we were charged for shipping so many times, why any business especially one in the business of selling art would treat customers so poorly. This has been an AWFUL experience. I do recommend purchasing anything from this art store. They are disrespectful after they get your money, the products they sell are questionable and they lack professionalism, experience and integrity. I will never step foot in River Gallery again. If you want to support artists buy from them directly. This place is no better than a used car dealership.

Yelp
Minnesota Mary We loved the gallery and their staff!! It's a very comfortable and beautiful gallery. Each room features several artists so you get to know the artists from the region. All mediums are there--glass, ceramics, wood, clothing, jewelry, sculpture and more. They have done a great job of selecting the artists and only groups them to really highlight their unique expressions... It's also a great shopping experience as well. A variety of price points to buy gifts or something to take home to remember your trip to this beautiful city. A must see if you're in the Bluff area! Don't miss the sculpture garden!!

Yelp
I enjoy poking my head in the River Gallery if I happen to already be in the Bluff View Art District of Chattanooga. It's one of those places with fine art that I can ogle over but not afford to buy. The exhibit out during Christmas included a collection of enchanting mugs, some with leaf handles and others with tasteful nude silhouettes etched into the clay. $60-$80. Not within my means. The large, winding rooms also contain paintings, sculptures, driftwood pieces and many other media. Upon my last visit, I was shocked to find a series of affordable earrings made from antique watch parts--an artist named Marty Whipple. My favorite pair comprised two classic, white watch faces with ornate, black, swirling hands, with cute black beads hanging from the bottom. Just $25! I couldn't resist. I also must add that the staff is extremely pleasant, treating me like an actual human being, even if I can't throw down several thousand dollars for a painting.

Yelp
Even though this is a very posh and extremely beautiful gallery, its assistants are completely down to earth and give you space to browse. There is no haughty air, there is no "what are -you- doing here?" attitude when you stroll in in workout attire and your sunglasses and bun atop your head from a day down by the river. To the best of my knowledge all featured art is from local artisans and they have a very discerning eye. All pieces here are incredibly gorgeous. Definitely worth it to stop in to buy pieces for your home or jewelry as a gift for a friend. Wonderful.

Yelp
Cheesy stuff in here. I say stuff because it's not quite art it's more like a craft store. Staff isn't so great either
